Tips For Finding Your Wedding Venue As a venue owner and speaking for many other wedding professionals, we understand that this is new territory for you; most likely you’ve never planned a wedding before or for that matter an event for 50+ people. For these reasons, and many more, we’re here to help! There are quite a few logistics we’re sure you haven’t thought of yet. We hope we can help with some tips below in helping you select the perfect venue!

Kati Rosado Photography

FINANCES This topic tends to be ignored and is one of the most important to discuss in the beginning stages of wedding planning. Whether you are paying for the wedding yourselves, or have contributing parties, having a ballpark idea of your overall budget and what you can afford is vital. TIP: Don’t be surprised when vendors ask this question. We’re asking to make sure we can share with you the most appropriate packages to fit within your budget. Most deposits are non-refundable. This is to protect you from a vendor “double or overbooking.” If your venue only books one event per day (By the way, exclusivity is really nice), they have elimin-

ated the opportunity to give anyone else the chance to consider this date as it is already reserved for you!

LOCATION This will set the feel and tone for your wedding. Are you interested in a ballroom, urban space, country club, or southern estate? TIP: The internet is a great resource and if you can pinpoint the right keywords, you’ll pull up some pretty exceptional venues. If you’re considering a rustic or unique venue space, keep in mind how close the venue is to the highway, hotels, and rehearsal dinner locations.

These logistics are important and will play a big part in the week of your wedding.

T hings you should know ... YOUR PLANNING A PARTY

VENUE FEATURES Everyone has a different idea of the amount of time they want to put into planning a wedding. If you’re selecting a venue that is over 2-3 hours away, consider an all-inclusive package. TIP: Most tours and meetings are scheduled during the week, since events (like your future wedding) will take place over the weekend. We don’t want to impede on someone else’s special day OR yours! If you like the idea of more control and selecting your own vendors, look for a location that allows outside vendors. Some venues may have a preferred vendor list for you to select from. Also, the number of guests on your list is a huge contributor to whether or not you can select your dream venue. TIP: Don’t ask what the venue capacity is, but rather ask your venue what will comfortably fit in the space. (including a dance floor, bar, DJ, cake display, buffet, etc.) See our breakdown below for helpful table to guest ratio.

It doesn’t take a wedding to get married. You should first understand that a wedding is an optional celebration, in other words, a luxury experience. Keep this in mind the entire planning process and when making decisions.

BARGAINS AREN’T ALWAYS BEST

Understand the professionals you hire. Even though they are part of an upscale industry, it doesn’t mean they are taking advantage of you. You get what you pay for.

VETT YOUR VENDORS

Choose a venue and wedding vendors to work with that are kind, helpful, and passionate about what they do. We are here to help make the entire process an experience that you’ll want to enjoy.

DONT KNOW, ASK!

There are no stupid questions. A venue is most likely one of the first vendors you will select. We love educating and helping couples in the planning process.

Should You Have an Engagement Session? Engagement sessions are some of the last things that people think about. It’s somewhat of an addon to wedding coverage, as it should be. I just don’t think that it should be an afterthought. The big question is this: Should you have an engagement session? In short, the answer is ABSOLUTELY!

GETTING COMFORTABLE More often than not, an “engagement session” turns into a “getting to know each other session”. It’s the true beginning of the photographic adventure together. The engagement session is where we see where we can go to get those reactions that we adore from couples. The big thing about it is that our approach is different for every couple. As we work together, Marta and I start to see how you react to what we ask of you. Some couples will react with laughter, while others will react with romance. We’ve seen all sorts of relationships blossom in front of us. It works wonders and gives you the chance to get comfortable in front of the camera before your actual wedding day.

GET TO KNOW YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER If you are engaged and looking for an Orlando Wedding Photographer, then consider having an engagement session before booking them for your wedding. See how they work with you. Marta and I always tell couples to consider how they feel around the photographers during the session. You will most likely be spending your whole wedding day with your wedding photographer, so you want to make sure that your personalities work well together.

Netta

meets

Howey

With the long anticipated restoration of the historic Howey-in-the-Hills mansion complete, it’s ready for its first guest.

Netta Meets Howey After 30 years of neglect, the gorgeous Howey Mansion located about 40 minutes north of Downtown Orlando in Howey-inthe-Hills has been resorted to its former glory. The new owners originally purchased the property with the intentions of turning it into a bed and breakfast. However, after receiving continued inquiries from couples to have their weddings at this cherished estate, they have decided to open the Mansion as a wedding venue. It holds a variety of options for weddings of up to 300 guests. The venue’s beautiful grounds and vintage details highlight the beauty of its first guest, Netta BenShabu. This amazing haute couture

wedding dress designer is based out of Miami and only available locally at Solutions Bridal, which is located near the Millenia Mall. Using the most delicate French laces and luxurious fabrics, along with intricate details, Netta’s gowns are nothing short of breathtaking. Each gown accentuates the waist line, providing a beautiful touch of femininity. The combination of these beautiful gowns and this historical local treasure make for a match made in heaven. Enchanted Forrest

Wedding Inspiration BRIDLE OAKS | DELAND, FL

A

barn wedding venue doesn’t mean that you have to strap on some cowboy boots under that wedding gown. Instead, a beautiful rustic elegant approach creates a little bit of a different vibe than what may be expected. Adding lovely purple tones to the lush color palette provided by nature, this vendor team created an Enchanted Forest-themed wedding inspiration shoot at Bridle Oaks, located in Deland, FL. A gorgeous reception table setup featured a massive floral arrangement that was dripping with crystals. Not to be left out of the magic, the cake was covered in orchids and its own set of sparkles. The model bride was fit to be a fairy princess with soft makeup and loose curls. While the details are all stunning on their own, together they create a dreamy fairy tale wedding!

Southwestern Boho Wedding Inspiration

THE ACRE ORLANDO | ORLANDO, FL

Is

it possible to bring the beauty of the southwest straight to Florida? This wedding styled shoot proves the answer is a resounding “YES!” With its boho charm and big cacti, there was no better place for inspiration than The Acre in Orlando. The Southwest’s signature geometric patterns and dusty blues and oranges were threaded in with terracotta plates and exotic floral. Even the bride’s unique gown fit right in with lace chevrons in the skirt! A macramé wall hanging created a fun spot to hang table assignments, photos, or place cards. Of course, a southwestern motif needs plenty of cacti, and this shoot definitely delivered, each place setting came with one! The cake’s contribution to the day’s theme was subtle and beautifully executed, with textured shapes cleanly carved into the white icing. See more at bit.ly/2meEUA6

Bella Collina Wedding Maxine and Martr ez MONTE VERDE, FL

There’s no venue quite like the Tuscan-styled Bella Collina in Monte Verde, and this couple’s special day radiated glamour. The bride’s gown was both sexy and classic with a deep V neckline overlaid with lace and beading. The groom looked stylish in a cream-colored tux and black bow tie, and the bridesmaids were dressed from head to toe in gold sequined gowns. There was definitely no shortage of

beautiful blooms! The aisle was loaded with white petals, while thick green garlands were draped across back row seating. Pillars topped with large arrangements of white roses were the finishing touch to a ceremony setting that looked ready for royalty. Such beautiful photos to look back on for a day these two will never forget!

Mission Inn Wedding Chr isty and Stephen HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, FL

Stephen and Christy are high school sweethearts whose relationship grew as they did. As two independent people, they pursued different careers at separate colleges 4 1/2 hours away from each other, but their love stayed strong despite the distance. Their wedding at Mission Inn was a long time coming, and every bit of it was stunning! The two of them said their vows under a wooden archway entwined with a rose garland, and long

ribbons hung off of Christy’s bouquet. Gold accents and table runners made of greenery made for a rich, elegant reception space. The cake itself was a work of art! Each tier was a little different, but they all blended as one cohesive piece. The wall of windows overlooking Mission Inn Resort and Club’s lake created a scenic view for guests while providing some natural lighting during the early evening!

Beach Place Guesthouses Wedding Nikki and Mike COCOA BEACH, FL

Beach Place Guesthouses was just the right venue for this beach-loving, creative couple. Brightly colored florals popped against the bridesmaids’ powder blue dresses, and the bride’s gown was romantic and airy - perfect for a beach wedding! Before the ceremony, the soon-to-be husband and wife took time to do a first touch, allowing them to spend a moment with each other without the groom

seeing the bride. After tying the knot under a driftwood archway, the newlyweds joined their guests to celebrate! A surfboard displayed the names of the bridal party in white calligraphy, while table numbers were painted onto glimmering geodes. Lots of unique details sat waiting to be discovered, and the result was an atmosphere that was a fun balance between beach and boho!

Participating Vendors: Venue: Beach Place Guest Houses| Photographer: Old Pine Pictorial| Florist: Buds Etc.|Dress: Martina Liana Bridal from Collection Bridal|Cake: The Best Little Cake House|Rentals: Mimosas and Moonshine and Chairs for Affairs| Jewelry: BHLDN Jewelry| Headband: Sara Gabriel| Caterer: A Chef ’s Touch Catering|Videography: Legendary Films by Damir|DJ: Lindsey Leigh Music|Van: Southsiders VW

Westin Lake Mary Wedding Elaine and John LAKE MARY, FL

Elaine and John met through mutual friends

over seven years before they got married. Throughout their relationship, they’ve traveled together, tried new restaurants together, and Instagrammed all of their discoveries along the way! Their pink and black wedding was modern and vibrant with clean lines and lots of sparkle. Elaine looked stunning in a full-skirted ball gown, and the groomsmen wore pink ties to match the bridesmaids’ hot

pink dresses. The reception was sleek and shimmering with silver linens, candle holders, and chargers atop every table. Floral centerpieces full of hydrangeas, roses, and peonies filled out the rest of the room. Elaine and John wanted a day full of delicious food and plenty of photos, and it looks like they got their wish! After dinner at long, family-style tables, guests enjoyed making memories with the magic mirror photo booth.

Weekend Getaway SAINT AUGUSTINE, FL When the wedding planning process is getting too chaotic and you need a break for a few days, a weekend getaway is a great option. In Florida, we are so fortunate to have a destination that is not only full of history and culture, but is also great for foodies, winos, and nature enthusiasts. At any time of year, St. Augustine provides an amazing experience for travelers in all walks of life.

HISTORY AND CULTURE BUFFS St. Augustine was founded in 1565 by Spanish settlers and many of the buildings and institutions built at that time still stand today. At the Castillo de San Marcos, daily cannon demonstrations offer an interesting glimpse into how the original inhabitants of St. Augustine defended their town against pirates and other invaders.

OTHER GREAT SITES - St. Augustine Lighthouse - Lightner Museum

FOOD AND WINOS Food in St. Augustine ranges from Spanish flavors to traditional Southern fare. There is really something for everyone. Some top-rated restaurants and local favorites include the Reef Restaurant, The Spanish Bakery and CafĂŠ, La Pentola CafĂŠ, La Pentola Restaurant,

A1A Works, and La Cocina. For wine aficionados, San Sebastian Winery is the perfect place to sample Florida wines. This winery offers complimentary tours and wine tastings seven days a week.

WHERE TO STAY St. Augustine is known for her variety of Bed & Breakfast options as well as her elegant and historical hotels such as the Casa Monica. B&Bs offer a cozy and homey feel with many amenities that hotels offer (Peace and Plenty Inn, pictured right) while hotels such as Casa Monica provide Spanish-inspired designs and a more historical feel. Camping at nearby Anastasia State Park at St. Augustine Beach is also an excellent option for nature lovers and adventure seekers.
