Ask a
Wedding Planner There is so much that goes into planning a wedding and we are sure you have a ton of questions. We asked five Central Florida wedding planners to answer some of the most frequent questions that we have received from local couples going through the wedding planning process.
Do we need to have a seating chart? “We always like to tell my clients, it’s your wedding, your day, therefore, you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to! In the case of seating charts though, it is always a good idea to keep in mind your guests’ comfort. Our suggestion would be to think through your family dynamics; is there anyone in the family that’s not ok with sitting next to someone else, are there people who don’t know anyone coming? If it’s a yes, keep it simple and just assign tables, not chairs. if none of the above applies, and you are having a buffet not plated, make a fun game out of the cocktail hour to have guests interact and make new friends, that way when it’s time for seating, they already have someone they have been chatting with!”
Rachael Jensen and Taylor Bianco Dandy Details Events
How soon should I start booking my wedding vendors? “The best piece of advice in regard to a timeline of booking your vendors is to book the vendors that are most important to you first. Begin by evaluating what you and your fiancé’s priorities are, and plan accordingly. For example, if you have your heart set on using a specific photographer or band, then locking them in might be the first order of business, as opposed to someone else who is more flexible.”
Kelly Fowler Just Save the Date 4

Do we need to list a dress code on our wedding invitations? “We always suggest to our clients to include the formality of their wedding on their invitation so that guests can dress appropriately. You spend so much time into every little detail making sure your day is as perfect. Now, the final piece of the puzzle are guests in attendance, right? Help your guests find the right outfit for your wedding by giving them an idea of your formality. The more information you give them, the better.”
Kim Tran Pearl White Events
Should we have an open bar? “Per standard etiquette, the answer is 100% yes. Personally, I love open bars. I think they can help loosen your guests up a little to ensure they end up on that dance floor. I’ve seen many dry weddings, and they tend to end right after dinner. However, if you have an open bar at your wedding, you do not need to break your budget. You do not need to use top shelf, and you can get away with no liquor at all. For my clients that may have a tight budget, I’ve recommended just wine and beer. You can also offer His and Hers signature drinks. These options will help you control the bar a little better.”
Jacqueline Leierer Sincerely Yours Weddings & Events
Do we need to have guest favors? “I am a huge believer that guest favors are a thing of the past! Usually, the guests forget to take them home and they are left behind for clean-up. This means you end up with them at the end of the night. I say take the money that you would use for guest favors and put it towards what is important to you to have for your dream wedding!”

QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR WEDDING VENUE One of the first things that you will do when it comes to planning your wedding is selecting your wedding venue. With over 300 wedding venues in the Greater Orlando area, you are sure to find your perfect one. However, each venue will have its own rules and guidelines that comes with renting the space. Besides the basics like, is my date available? or how many guest can the venue hold?, there are several questions to ask that can help you decide if a venue is right for you.
6
Orange Blossom Bride
Are there any planned renovations before or around the date of my wedding? Nothing is more disappointing than falling in love with a certain part of a venue, then come your wedding day it is no longer there. Avoid these unnecessary surprises by asking the venue if there are going to be any changes made before or around your wedding date. This will help you decide if you still want to go with a venue before you have gotten too far into the planning process.
Do we have to use your preferred vendors? Most venues will have a preferred vendors list. This list has been created by the venue through experience with these vendors. They know their quality of service and are therefore recommending them to the couples that book the space. However, if you have your heart set on using a certain vendor that is not on a venue’s preferred list, check if this will be an issue. In some cases, this list is a suggestion not a requirement but there may also be a fee if you decide to go outside their list.
Are there any noise ordinances? A venue may be located in an area that has a strict noise ordinance, which may require you to shut down the party a little earlier than you’d like. If this is the case for the venue you want, you can always take the celebration to another location. Greater Orlando is full of wonderful locations for an afterparty!
Can we have candles?
If your dream wedding includes candle covered guest tables, your dream venue may not allow open flames. For the venues that do allow candles, most will require that the candle be in some type of container to reduce the fire hazard. This policy may also extent to sparklers. If it is not clearly stated, make sure to ask.
What’s the parking situation? Depending on your guest count, parking can be a serious concern, especially if you having your wedding in a more congested area like Downtown Orlando. This isn’t to deter you. Ask the venue where the closest parking is, how many spaces are available, and if there is a cost for parking or is it included in the rental fee.

Tips for having a
Central Florida WEDDING
10
Orange Blossom Bride
Over 18,000 couples get married in the area every year, making it one of the top locations in the country to celebrate your union. As with any area, Greater Orlando has its challenges. However, with proper preparation these challenges can be avoided or worked around. Your Guest List May Become Larger Than You Think If you are inviting out-of-town guests thinking they most likely won’t come do to the distance, you might want to think again. So often we hear of couple’s final guest lists being larger than they thought because of this. We are in a vacation destination! Quite often out of town guests will make a vacation out their trip and visit the many attractions the area has to offer. What does this mean for you or should we say your wedding budget? Well, just make sure that you are planning your budget with this in mind.
Traffic… Need we say more! The roads around Greater Orlando are usually pretty congested. If you are planning on having a multiple location wedding celebration, be sure to calculate your start times accordingly, adding a little wiggle room. You never know what is going to happen and you don’t want your wedding photos or reception cut short because you and your guests couldn’t get to a location in time.
It Could Rain, Or Not Our weather is all over the place. There are so many days when the weather forecast may have a high chance of rain but not a drop falls, or vice versa. The lesson to be learned, it’s better to be prepared then rained out. Ask your venue, if they have a rain plan in place. If you have an all outdoor venue, a tent in always a great option. Some tent rental companies, like Orlando Wedding and Party Rentals, will let you reserve one just in case you may need it the day of.

FAMILY HEIRLOOMS ON THE WEDDING DAY Weddings are special events and often the perfect occasion to bring out those meaningful family keepsakes. Many couples have chosen to include their loved ones jewelry and other special pieces into their wedding day, which makes for the perfect “something borrowed. Wedding Photographer, Bumby Grimm of Bumby Photography, shares some of her favorites and the sweet story behind each.

Old Traditions Bride, Jessica’s bouquet was wrapped in lace from her mother’s veil. Her heirloom jewelry was passed down from her mother’s wedding and what her mom wore was passed down from her grandmother’s wedding. The beautiful thing is that Jessica’s daughter will get her jewelry on her wedding day. Jessica will wear what her mother wore to hers and the tradition lives on. Jewelry and bouquet pictured on previous page.
New Traditions Bride, Nicole’s mother started the tradition of passing down a handkerchief. She had her initials and Nicole’s initials embroidered on a handkerchief. If Nicole and Sam have a daughter, the handkerchief will then have her initials placed on it, continuing the family tradition.
Special Surprise Right before their wedding, groom Michael’s stepdad gave bride, Sarah, a gift from Michael’s late mother. She had sorted through her jewelry before she passed away and wanted Sarah to have the necklace Michael’s stepdad gave her on their wedding day. Even though she had no idea she would be wearing it on her wedding day, the necklace matched Sarah’s entire look perfectly

Insider Look:
Bridal FASHION
We had the pleasure of joining Erica Trunk, owner of Solutions Bridal, for New York Bridal Fashion Week to see what it takes to get your perfect wedding dress into their Orlando bridal salon.
16
Orange Blossom Bride
It’s 8am on a Friday as we head to New York for Fall Bridal Fashion Week, with a jammedpack long weekend schedule of designer appointments and fashion shows. Erica is on the search for beautiful new bridal gowns and accessories to include in her bridal salon. Since purchasing Solutions Bridal in 2017, she has been immersed into the bridal fashion world. Being her third bridal fashion week, Erica is more confident in the process and knowing what her brides are looking for. One might think that a bridal salon owner goes to fashion week, picks out some gowns, then brings them back to their shop to sell to brides. However, there is so much more that goes into it! Quality of a Dress At each appointment, the designers have their newest collection of bridal attire. Models show each piece so that the bridal salon owners can get an idea of the movement of the gown. Gowns quite often look very different on a hanger than on a bride. Along with seeing the flow of a gown, Erica wants to know the quality. Looking over each dress meticulously, she makes note of the gowns fabrics and seams to make sure that they align with the standard that Solutions Bridal is known for and their brides have come to expect.
What Brides Want and the Trends As we attended more and more designer appointments, you can start to pick up on the trends for that season. 3-D floral appliques, as well as more simple, classic gowns (no doubt influenced by the Royal Wedding), made frequent appearances. Erica balances the trends with what the brides that come to her shop are actually looking for. What may sell great for a salon in California may not sell at all here in Orlando, so part of this process is really knowing what their brides want. To assist with this, she brought along lead stylist at Solutions Bridal, Jessica Vargas. Since each stylist interacts with different brides, Jessica gave Erica her perspective of what her brides have been requesting. Together, they would talk over the different options to make sure they can assist all their brides.

Getting the Dresses in the Bridal Salon Designers begin planning their collection several months before bridal fashion week. This includes the design and the production of the samples to show to bridal salon owner. If a salon is interested in the gown, they purchase it to showcase in their shop. This allows for the shops to select the gowns that they feel their brides will like most. However, these gowns are made to order and it takes, on average, several months before they are available for you to try on. Being able to tag along with the lovely ladies of Solutions Bridal was a great experience that opened our eyes to the extensive process that comes with selecting your perfect wedding gown.

Using a Travel Advisor to Plan Your
Bucket List
HONEYMOON
Many engaged couples have dreams of honeymooning in places like Greece, Iceland, Thailand, Japan, Italy, and Peru. However, they are quickly overwhelmed by the wedding planning process and end up settling for a short stay at an all-inclusive resort or a Caribbean cruise just to make things easier. By working with a trusted travel advisor who has experience planning trips around the world, couples can save time and money without compromising their dream honeymoon.
Venice, Italy
Oftentimes, couples may shy away from taking that bucket list honeymoon because they are nervous they will forget something by planning it themselves. It can be challenging to plan a big trip, especially while planning a wedding, in addition to the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Simply thinking about all the components of a well-planned travel experience (flights, transfers, accommodations, transportation, activities and excursions, and travel insurance) can make even the most organized couple throw up their hands! This is when working with a travel advisor will be helpful. With a resource like the internet at your fingertips, what are the benefits of using a travel advisor when you can plan and book on your own? The internet is a great tool to get a general overview of a destination as well as get an idea of must sees. However, the internet can also add to the planning stress because the search results can become overwhelming. Unlike an internet search engine, travel advisors will take the time to get to know you and can refine their recommendations based on your likes and dislikes. This will help you avoid the frustration of seeing search results that don’t match with what you want. Travel advisors work with reputable vendors all over the world to put together the perfect travel experience. If you have your heart set on a bucket list destination for your honeymoon but are nervous on handling the details on your own while also planning your wedding, then consider working with a travel advisor.
Santorini, Greece
Iceland
General Travel Advisor Tips: - Whether you plan a trip yourself or with a travel advisor, always invest in travel insurance! - The cheapest option may not be the option that offers the best value. For example, the cheapest flight might require you to have a 12-hour layover. There are travelers who don’t mind, but for the travelers with limited time, that would be a huge waste. - The more you can tell your travel advisor about your preferences, the better they will be able to tailor your itinerary. So let them know about your last amazing travel experience and what made it so wonderful!

Grecian Elegance
AT THE ALFOND INN
This Greece-inspired styled shoot will have you dreaming of oceanside cliffs and ancient architecture in no time. The ceremony was set with a romantic floral archway reminiscent of the crumbling ruins of Athens. Rustic tables looked ready for a tasty family meal - the only thing missing was a salty breeze blowing in from the Aegean Sea! Dusty blue napkins and mismatched china sat at each place setting with sea glass “place cards” marking each seat. An elegant blue and white cake was the perfect final touch!

Southern Boho Charm AT HELLER HALL
Vibrant and trendy, this inspirational shoot used macramé and pampas grass to create a whimsical boho chic design. Heller Hall, a new venue at the Winter Garden Heritage Center, laid a clean foundation for lots of color and pretty details! Yellows and oranges with copper accents made for a bright and sunny table, and the combination of the grass and the florals was fresh and fun. The cake fit in with the design seamlessly, brushed with pinks and oranges decorated with its own bit of macramé. The model bride looked elegant in an updo and a lace gown with beautiful Swiss dot detail, while the groom was light and polished in a white button up, suspenders, and boutonnière. What a great example of how a couple elements can bring a whole design together!

There’s nothing quite like marrying the love of your life in the midst of friends and family - and dinosaurs! Dixie and Ryan met in their high school history class and became fast friend and eventually started dating a couple years later. Ryan’s romantic proposal took place in a rowboat on a lake surrounded by Bavarian castles and the Alps. For their wedding, they turned the dino exhibit at the Orlando Science Center into a

Dixie’s shoes also went with the theme, with an oh-so fabulous rhinestone T-Rex on them! Guests were entertained with classic arcade-style games and a caricature artist, as well as their favorite German and Caribbean food. They were even able to spend some quality time with their puppies on their special day.

Kenelyn and Philip
Kenelyn and Philip began talking on Tinder four years ago and met for the first time by the clock in Grand Central Station. Little did they know, they would later get engaged in that same spot! When it came to selecting their wedding venue, the couple fell in love with the vintage feel of the Howey Mansion and emphasized that style in their wedding decor. Starting with their favorite color, purple, the couple included dark wooden tables, long floral garlands, and brass and gold accents which made for a reception rich in atmosphere. After a magical, impromptu sing-a-long moment during dinner among all the guests, Kenelyn said, “We felt soooo blessed to have every single one of those 43 people fly out from New York to Florida to share such a special day with us. The love, joy, and happiness could literally be felt in the air.

Though Ashanti and Vergus met in high school, it wasn’t until later that they began their relationship. Vergus loves to fish, and he introduced Ashanti to his favorite hobby. It was under the guise of a fishing trip that he planned a romantic picnic for the two of them and proposed! Their wedding at the Junior Sorosis League was nothing short of glamorous! The bridesmaids sparkled in silver sequined gowns and

each groomsman wore a glittery dapper bowtie. The chic couple looked stunning as well! The reception decor was light and airy with white florals, pale gray linens, and geometric centerpieces. Sprigs of greenery tied everything together. When it came to dessert, in addition to their clean white wedding cake, Ashanti surprised Vergus with a fishing-themed groom’s cake.

Taylor and Felix
Magic was definitely in the air at Taylor and Felix’s Harry Potter wedding! When the two of them met on the New York subway, Taylor instantly felt a connection. Felix lucked out (maybe his last name should be Felicis) when Taylor asked for his number, and the two of them talked for four hours that night! Their big day included a lot of special moments, such as the candle blending ceremony they performed with their children to symbolically unite their families. Deep red roses with lots of greenery worked beautifully for their winter wedding, and strings of lights added even more romance to the reception. Wands and magical “potions” made for the perfect guest favors, and a rustic cake was topped with a simple but meaningful Harry Potter quote, “Always.” What great ways to incorporate a favorite story into a very important day!

Jordan and Troy
Light pinks and minty greens filled Sydonie Mansion on Jordan and Troy’s wedding day. They exchanged vows with a lakeside ceremony under an archway decorated with pale pink drapery and fresh flowers. The couple also included sweet remembrances throughout their entire wedding day for those loved ones that were not able to celebrate with them. Once they were officially husband and wife, the newlyweds sneaked away for portraits around the mansion’s charming garden! Pink and white florals brightened every surface of Jordan and Troy’s outdoor reception. The reception tables were set with gold chargers and pale linens, and each guest received a mini potted succulent as an adorable thank you gift. A classic white cake dotted with pink roses was just the right sweet treat after a delicious meal!

For a bride who loves to get lost in bookstores, this library-themed wedding was the perfect way to celebrate true love. Matthew proposed to Courtney right at home on their couch over good wine and conversation. They wanted their wedding day to have those romantic vibes as well. They achieved this look with a dark, moody colors palette, candelabras, and the Orchid Garden’s brick walls.

Navy, maroon, and dark green showed up in the bridesmaid dresses, the men’s suits, and the florals. After their ceremony in front of the grand staircase, Courtney and Matthew explored Downtown Orlando’s many great photo spots. Brides' ADVICE
Wedding planning can be an overwhelming world. It’s always helpful to have advice. And who better to give wedding planning advice than those that just went through the process and came out on the other end?! We asked the brides of this issue’s featured weddings to share their wedding planning wisdom for couples preparing to walk down the aisle.
“Make sure you’re planning your wedding for yourselves! It is much easier than you expect to fall prey to others’ expectations. Do not be afraid to do away with tradition if it’s not what you want. No matter what anyone says, plan your wedding your way.”
Dixie, Orlando Science Center p. 40
“Do not listen to the million opinions that people have on what, where, how you should do your wedding. This is your wedding and do whatever makes you and your groom happy. Stay true to your vision and your budget lol. This is your day and it only happens once.”
Kenelyn, The Howey Mansion p. 43
“Plan ahead and get a wedding planner. Had we not hired Royal Events and Services, we would not have been able to stick to our budget. I probably would have not been able to execute my look. I wanted to change my wedding colors so many times, they kept me focus and on track to ensure I stuck with it.”
Ashanti, Junior Sorosis League p. 46
Winter/Spring 2019
61
“Go with your gut on the vendors. I loved the wedding show because I got to see if the vendor was a good fit. Also, don’t sweat the small stuff. I wasn’t very stressed for the whole process, including the day of, and I think that it made everything flow easier. Not everything is going to work out but if you just let it go, it will save you a lot of stress.”
Taylor, Paradise Cove Orlando p. 49
“Keep the process organized, always. Make the line of communication open between your vendors and consolidate all of your info (budget, to-do’s, etc.) in one place. Spreadsheets are my fav!”
Courtney, Orchid Garden p. 55
“My advice is to soak in all the excitement of being engaged and the fun of planning. It can feel overwhelming with all the decisions that need to be made, but at the end of the day you are looking forward to a day that will truly be the best day of your life. Once that day arrives, try to be as present as possible. Take mental pictures of special moments and take a few quiet minutes together to just enjoy each other’s company and the celebration happening around you.”
Elysia, Bella Collina p. 58
