HOW TO GET YOUR HAIR AND SKIN READY FOR YOUR WEDDING DAY
On wedding day, every person attending makes the effort to look their best, but no one more so than the bride! As a bride you will invest in a trial run with a professional hairstylist and makeup artist to help realize your dream wedding day look. Once the trial and consultation are done, consider what you can do to make sure that you are totally prepared to go into your wedding day hair and makeup appointment to help your selected artist be most successful! 4
Orange Blossom Bride
GET A TRIM BEFORE THE WEDDING Keep up with the hair care and maintenance routine that you have become accustomed to. I talk with a lot of brides who are trying to grow out their hair so they can wear the half up half down hairstyle they’ve always dreamed of. That’s totally fine, but as you do that, be sure to maintain regular trims. Your hair with look healthy and beautiful on your wedding day if you’re cutting off those dead ends! With that said, try to schedule your last hair appointment about a month to six weeks before your wedding. There’s a saying that the only difference between a good haircut and a bad haircut is six weeks. Our hair on average, grows one half to a full inch monthly. So just in case your stylist is feeling a little scissor happy, you can get a little more growing time before the big day. Also, talk with your stylist about deep conditioning treatments, which will help you have shiny, smooth hair.
STAY HYDRATED When it comes to makeup applications, really talk to your makeup artist. Ask questions about the texture of your skin and how they would like for you to prepare your skin. Follow a consistent skin care routine. If you don’t have one than start! The success of your makeup application will depend largely on your skin’s health and condition. If you don’t know what to use or what products would be best for your skin, see an esthetician and follow his or her recommendations. Makeup can cover skin discolorations. However, it cannot change your skin’s texture, that can only occur though skin care and proper hydration. I totally understand that for a lot of brides going to a skin care professional can seem like one more cost to add to the pile, but taking proper care of your skin reaches even beyond the wedding day. Our skin is an organ, and it’s one that takes a beating from the environment and the abuse that we put it through daily. If you don’t find it feasible to go to a skin care professional, look at some of your local beauty schools. Skin care is a large part of both the esthetician and cosmetology curriculum, so any school that offers those programs will likely have a facial service at a discounted rate.
KEEP IT HEALTHY I also like to remind my brides about how much our general health effects our overall appearance. Likely if there’s something going on internally we can see signs of it in the way our hair, skin, and nails appear. Stay hydrated and try to eat nutrient rich foods! Here’s a tip, the night before the wedding try drinking freshly juiced carrots! The vitamin K give the skin a natural glow. No matter what your desired hair and makeup goals, you will always look radiant with light in your eyes, and a smile on your lips.

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR
Wedding Day Look It’s such a big day with so many decisions. You’re wedding day beauty can sometimes be a daunting one. Here’s a few tips to help you think through it!
CONSIDER YOUR EVERYDAY LOOK If you always wear your hair down, consider doing the same on your wedding day. When a bride who never wears her hair up chooses an updo for her wedding, she may feel uncomfortable because she is just not use to seeing herself this way. If this is you and you really want to wear your hair up, then leave some pieces around your face to give you the feel you are use to! This goes for makeup as well. If you are a minimalist when it comes to your everyday makeup, opting for an dramatic red-carpet makeup look, probably isn’t the best idea.
BE REALISTIC When selecting your wedding day look, consider your natural skin tone, eye shape, hair, etc. Opting for a down-do, when your hair doesn’t hold a good curl probably isn’t your best option. Wedding days are LONG days. Most photos I see from the wedding party have beach tousled waves. Although these are beautiful, they won’t last. Let’s be honest, we are in Florida and the humidity is our enemy. Yes, as professionals, we have products and tricks but it can be hard to fight mother nature.
YOUR DRESS Does your dress have a high neckline or low back? Is it understated elegance that channels Jackie O or the Royal Wedding? Or maybe your dress is full of personality, bling and over the top?
Your hair and makeup can enhance your style of wedding gown. If you are going for a more elegant style, a natural look may complement your gown better. If you choose a detailed gown, consider a more dramatic look for your hair and makeup. Whatever look you choose, stay true to your own beauty. Make it about you!

Blooming Beauty
When the bouquet is put down and it’s time to party, don’t be left without flowers! Create one of a kind tress for your wedding day look by adding a floral accent. Whether you crown yourself with a lush floral wreath or keep it fresh and youthful with a few single blooms tucked into an updo, fresh flowers have the versatility to create looks from timeless elegance to stunning statement pieces.
Crown Yourself This moody floral crown is designed with creamy white flowers blossoming with layers of petals, moody tones of deep burgundy, and the deep iridescent shades of peacock feathers. Set atop large voluminous curls, flower crowns can create moody drama for you to party the night away. This stunning statement crown is created on a ribbon for a subtle touch of softness when it is tied in place at the nape of the neck. Flowers include: spray roses, scabiosa, wax flower, ruscus, peacock feathers
Fairytale Fashion These beautiful blooms adorn your mane for a truly fairy tale style. Put the veil aside and accent your look with beautiful garden floral. The half updo and side placement of floral makes this a picture-perfect style that exudes romance and sophistication. Flowers include: ranunculus, freesia, godetia
Glam Tresses If color, texture, design, and style is the name of your game, don’t dismiss a floral hair piece. This glamorous asymmetrical design accents the beautiful dark upswept locks that tumble over the shoulder. This piece is fashioned with unique textural elements, vibrant colors and deconstructed flowers for a one of a kind accessory that will sizzle all night long! Flowers include: gloriosa lily, bleeding heart, gerbera daisy deconstructed

Sweet and Subtle The versatility in this style is what makes it a favorite. A small floral comb can perfectly accent any updo style and it is practically perfect in every way for a bride who wants to wear flowers with her veil. Delicate and beautiful, this style adds such prettiness and uniqueness to your wedding day. Flowers include: pointsettia, helleborous
Single Blooms Lacing single blooms into an updo gives you a youthful fresh look. These botanical accents can be very versatile. Single blooms can be placed above the veil, throughout an updo, or to accent a few face-framing curls. It is a perfect finishing touch for your wedding day style. Flowers include: phaleonopsis orchids, salal leaves
Timeless Elegance Heavenly beauty is created with this embellished floral crown resting upon long tussled curls. Using a traditional base of baby’s breath and adding textural elements to elevate the style, makes this angelic floral crown stand out above the rest. English ivy is interlaced throughout the baby’s breath and a few petite roses make this delicate look a timeless piece for your wedding. Flowers include: babys breath, English ivy, spray roses

Pros
Ask the
There is a good chance you’ve never hired a professional hair and makeup artist before your wedding and might not know where to start. We asked five professional Central Florida hair and makeup artists why it’s important to go pro when creating your wedding day look and what you should look for when doing so.
“A pro will be a pro in all aspects of their business, from cleanliness to proper licensing. In fact, many venues will not allow an uninsured artist on property. Once you have picked your artists, you should receive a contract and the retainer info to secure your date. A wedding pro can book up to a year out, so make sure not to wait to book their services.”
Brittney Boscana Brie & Brie
“A professional makeup artist should be able to show you a portfolio of work that shows a variety of skin tones. They should be able to show clients and not just examples of makeup they’ve done on themselves. A makeup enthusiast is great at their own makeup, a makeup artist earns their living by doing other people’s makeup.”

Jasmine Doublette Brides Be Beautiful by Jasmine Doublette
“Your pro hair and makeup artist will understand the value of cleanliness and sanitation! Your artists should not be using the same brush on every face. Skin has its own oils and bacteria that you don’t want mingling with others. We sanitize our makeup and brushes after every client. We also have multiple combs and clips for hairstyling.”

We’ll be in contact with them making sure we have you and your wedding party ready at the appropriate time. We understand wedding day logistics, scheduling and the longevity of hair and makeup looks. This past June, Orange Blossom Bride organized a trip for Greater Orlando wedding pros to collaborate on a wedding inspiration shoot with an amazing vendor team in the one and only New Orleans, LA. ew Orleans has such unique, well, everything! But we especially love the history and architecture that can be found throughout the city. When we started planning for this shoot, we wanted a location that had details that were different than what you could find here in Central Florida. We fell in love with the courtyard space at the Chateau LeMoyne, which is located in the heart of French Quarter, as well as the other details throughout the hotel. After the location was found, the planning began. Inspired by the colors of Mardi Gras, Central Florida planner, Jackie of Sincerely Yours Weddings and Design wanted to create an elegant shoot playing off the locations unique details. We contacted Randi of Poppy Lane Events, an amazing wedding planner in the New Orleans area, to help bring the design together and connect us with other local wedding pros. The whole shoot was perfect! Want to see more from this shoot? Visit the blog at orangeblossombride.com

When people think about New Orleans, many ideas come to mind including Mardi Gras parades, jazz, and delicious food. Perhaps images of sugar-dusted beignets dance in their heads while they imagine the beautiful architecture of the homes in the Garden District. The word “romantic” doesn’t always come up when describing this famous city. However, there are opportunities for couples to find romance in The Big Easy. And with several short nonstop flights available, it’s the perfect location for a weekend getaway!

WHERE TO STAY
One of the best ways to get a feel for New Orleans is to stay in a boutique hotel in the historic French Quarter. This is perhaps NOLA’s most well known neighborhood for nightlife, restaurants, shopping, and people watching. Almost everything is accessible by foot, but there are options for public transportation as well as ride-shares for when the weather is too hot and/ or rainy.
LETS EAT!
There are so many things to see, do, and eat in New Orleans. One of the most famous places to grab a coffee and a snack is Cafe du Monde which is open 24 hours. It can get busy during the day, but the service is fast and the tables are quickly turned over. And did we mention the beignets are delicious?! Looking for more spice? Cajun food options abound in the city and a trip to New Orleans is incomplete without sweating it out to a bowl of gumbo.
WHAT TO DO
Because of the history and voodoo culture in New Orleans, ghost tours and cemetery tours are a popular activity for those who are looking for a more macabre experience. Coming up to Jackson Square, you are greeted with the alluring sounds of jazz playing in the park, and there are ample opportunities to get your fortunes read. The Garden District gives travelers an opportunity to appreciate the historic architecture of the beautiful mansions. For the foodies, history buffs, music lovers, and fans of the whimsical, New Orleans makes for the perfect getaway from the ordinary.

Laura and Thomas are two birds of the same feather! They hit it off immediately when they met at a high school church camp, almost a decade ago. Thomas’ romantic beach proposal to Laura was a complete surprise. Once their wedding day had finally arrived, Laura included a little surprise of her own for Thomas - she sang to him as she walked down the aisle! As worship leaders at their church, they sing frequently. However, this was the first time Laura ever sang to Thomas and she did

so in front of 100 of their closest family and friends. Both Laura and Thomas are passionate about music and art and their wedding details showed off their sense of style. Their wedding day was rich in color with navy blue, burgundy, ivory, and gold all working together. Gold chivari chairs and burgundy accents gave the reception a luxurious feel, and a mouthwatering dessert buffet satiated everyone’s sweet tooth!

Kristen and Richard
Kristen and Richard go together like, well, blush and gold - a fact proven by their soft, romantic wedding at the Banyan Estate. Before the big day, the mother of the bride fashioned a pin out of a charm that Kristen’s Nani used to wear. Kristen pinned it her bouquet on her wedding day bouquet to include her Nani in the celebration. What a special touch! Weathered, rustic doors fit perfectly in the venue’s outdoor space and served as a beautiful archway for Kristen and Richard to exchange their wedding vows. Inside, tables decorated with white lanterns, gold table numbers, and jars of florals awaited guests. Vintage furniture provided a place for mingling friends and family to lounge and enjoy the fresh air. Kristen says, “becoming husband and wife and then celebrating that fact with so many special people truly made it the best day of our lives.”

When Sara’s coworkers found out she played Dungeons and Dragons on the weekends, they introduced her to Ned, knowing they’d be a perfect match! After years of getting to know each other at work and then finally dating, Sara and Ned got engaged while on a trip in the mountains. Their wedding day was full of many personal touches. They both have a love for the outdoors and wanted that to reflect in their wedding day decor. They selected various shades of green with wooden accents which fit in perfectly with The Acre Orlando’s natural atmosphere. So many of their details were meaningful or handmade. The two of them propagated the succulents, built the cake box, and designed and created every sign themselves. Sara also wore lovely pieces of her grandmother’s jewelry. Even the wineglasses they toasted with were ones that Sara and her mom bought in Italy when Sara was fourteen years old!

Brides' ADVICE Wedding planning can be an overwhelming world. It’s always helpful to have advice. And who better to give wedding planning advice than those that just went through the process and came out on the other end?! We asked the brides of this issue’s featured weddings to share their wedding planning wisdom for couples preparing to walk down the aisle.
“Hire a wedding planner!! I highly recommend having a wedding planner help you from start to finish. Even as a wedding planner myself, it was a lot to handle when it came down to my own big day. There are so many factors you have to think about and it becomes stressful when you don’t know how to manage them all while keeping the day within budget. A wedding planner will help you and even point out things that you don’t even think about or missed to plan for.”
Laura, Navy and Burgundy Wedding p.34
“Breathe! The process can seem so overwhelming and stressful but everything will work out and it will be the most beautiful day of your life no matter what. The only thing I wish we did differently would be to make videography a priority and finagle it into our budget somehow. Being so sentimental, I think that would have been something I would love to watch again and again.”
Kristen, The Banyan Estate p.37
Fall 2018
49
“Hire a wedding planner. Our planner made the process actually enjoyable. She didn’t overwhelm us with too many options or details. She handled all the little things that you won’t even realize is a “thing” to worry about. I was able to actually enjoy the planning AND the big day.”
Alysse, Grand Bohemian Hotel p.40
“Always have a back-up plan! We loved doing a lot of DIY, but at the end of the day there were a lot of things we thought we’d have time to do but we didn’t. When it came down to the wire, we were so thankful to have a Plan B up our sleeves when we realized we had to cut back on the crafting.”
Sara, The Acre Orlando p.43
“Breathe and enjoy every moment! Also, make sure to spend time talking with guests you don’t see often.”
Jacqueline, Crystal Ballroom at the Veranda p.46
