Winter calling!

by amie henderson

Never has a winter in the Portes du Soleil been more eagerly anticipated. Huge volumes of snow fell during the season that wasn’t, frustrating us all as our ski lifts stood still. High hopes are pinned on Winter 22, with many local accommodation operators reporting record demand for ski holidays throughout the season. Longer stays may become the norm, as we seek to make up for holidays lost. So my advice to you is this… book now, don’t delay. Here are five things I’m most looking forward to during Winter 22. La Bokka, Les Gets

Rudimental, Fatboy Slim and Basement Jaxx and I’m told there’ll be fewer tickets available next winter because of roll-overs from previous years. Snowboxx takes place between 19th and 26th March, the next batch of tickets will be available from 29th July and prices start at £249 for seven days accommodation and a festival wristband. Head to snowboxx.com for further details.

Having written extensively about this brand new, authentic Italian restaurant for our Winter 21 magazine, I was really disappointed that its doors never opened due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions. La Bokka is a stunningly beautiful new trattoria in the centre of Les Gets with a focus on the finest Italian produce, delicious wines and interiors by a former Louis Vuitton stylist. A visit to La Bokka will be a complete evening out, with an up-beat atmosphere and live entertainment, just like all the best Italian restaurants. I can’t wait to visit! Opening is now scheduled for December 2021, head to bokka-lesgets.com for more details or follow @bokka.lesgets on Instagram.

The European Outdoor Film Tour

The Return of Snowboxx

New Accommodation Options

We’ve previously hosted a stage of the annual European Outdoor Film Tour, packing 200 people into a screening of the very best global adventure and action sports short films. We donated all the profits (approx €4200 since you asked!) from the event to our local mountain rescue service Secours en Montagne and we’ll be pitching again to bring this event back to Montriond / Morzine during the Winter 22 season. Keep an eye on our social channels for further updates. The Source Suppliers Show

It was one of the very first events to be cancelled as the spread of COVID-19 gathered pace in March 2020, yet Snowboxx returns to Avoriaz in March 2022. With a lineup still to be announced, we can expect huge acts to perform on a specially-created stage in the centre of the Portes du Soleil’s highest ski resort. Previous highlights have included

first time, we’ll host our annual trade show in advance of the winter season, rather than at the end. Scheduled for Tuesday 7th December, we’ll return to the incredible Domaine du Baron on the shores of Lac de Montriond for a one-day business-to-business meetup. As always, it’ll be free to visit the Source Suppliers Show, or €99 to join us for the day as an exhibitor. This event is essential for those promoting a product or service based enterprise to local business owners and we welcome over 500 visitors during the course of the day. Head to sourcesuppliersshow.com for ongoing updates.

I’ve planned and postponed this event so many times over the last 18 months, but for the

Morzine, Les Gets and Avoriaz are famous for offering accommodation options for all group sizes and budgets - there literally is something for everyone across our three resorts. This trend continues unabated for Winter 22, when a number of chalet and apartment developments come online for many local operators. Over at MountainXtra for example, a number of new properties will be available to rent on a self catered basis, including a 2-bed at the brand new Carlina development at the bottom of the Pleney, just a few metres from the lift station. Find out more at MountainXtra. com. I’ve also heard rumours of a brand new hostel concept coming to Morzine, offering flexible stays from short breaks to season-long digs. I’ll share more on this soon!
