TAKING NEW PATHS

We are driven by passion. It leads us to solitary rock faces, through unspoiled valleys and up to wild summits. It lets us grow and push the boundaries. In summer 2018, this passion led us to new ideas and visions: With the PEAK LIGHT, our ALPINE LIGHTWEIGHT, we developed a sophisticated back system made from pressed Swiss wool and foam, which offers an even better MICRO CLIMATE thanks to the HIGH-TECH knitted fabric. When it comes to clothing, we rely on MERINO SHIELD TEC – the exciting symbiosis of soft merino wool and robust Cordura®. The unique material is now also being used in the jackets and vests in the PALA series. But in addition to the right gear, knowledge of the dangers and responsible behavior in the mountains is also crucial. Since the company was founded, training, preparation, and protection have therefore been an inherent part of ORTOVOX. Safety and confidence also play a dominant role in the Verband deutscher Berg- und Skiführer (VDBS – German mountain and ski guide asso ciation). We are therefore proud to expand our long-term partnership with the VDBS into the clothing sector. As an initial outcome of the expanded collaboration, we are delighted to present the SAFETY ACADEMY GUIDE BOOK ROCK. Together with the professionals, their wealth of experience and their expertise, we have created a training book for ALPINE CLIMBING. Here’s to a partnership shaped by friendship and passion! Confidence and well-being are also at the forefront of the ORTOVOX WOOL PROMISE: Animal protection is at the heart of our activities. With the wool standard, we guarantee ethical treatment of our sheep in all areas of life and ensure, over the course of the supply chain, that our Tasmanian wool actually ends up in our products.

CLIMBING

The massive, bizarre towers of the Pala group protrude from the stony alpine plateau. Climbing here in the southernmost mountain range of the Dolomites takes strong nerves – and strong material. Our MERINO SHIELD TEC line was designed especially for such long, alpine routes. Just like in our PALA PANTS, we use EXTREMELY SCUFF-RESISTANT CORDURA® in the new PALA JACKET. In the Martindale test used to test scuff resistance, the primary material was able to withstand over 50,000 abrasion cycles. In high-stress areas, we’ve used an EVEN MORE ROBUST MATERIAL MIX MADE OF CORDURA® (> 100,000 abrasion cycles in the Martindale test), to offer maximum protection from rugged rock faces. In addition, the MERINO SHIELD TEC line is made of polyamide and elastane on the outside and fine merino wool on the inside. This is a mix that guarantees HIGH BREATHABILITY and keeps up with each of your movements on the mountain thanks to the 4-WAY -STRETCH MATERIAL as well as the sleeve fit that is perfectly adapted for climbing. • • • •

Over the roofs of ARCO: The eastern face of the Colodri is known for its exposed, alpine climbing routes – and the spectacular view over this Italian climbing region. Our new COLODRI PANTS and SHORTS are right at home on these rock faces. In the climbing pants in the SHIELD CANVAS LIGHT line, we combine ORGANIC COTTON with polyamide and elastane. This makes the line light, breathable, elastic, and robust at the same time. The cotton used is organically grown and certified in accordance with the GLOBAL ORGANIC TEXTILE STANDARD (GOTS). Thanks to the 2-WAY-STRECH and the INSERTS in the crotch, the COLODRI PANTS keeps up with even the most extreme moves on the rocks. For an even better microclimate, we have incorporated MERINO COOL into the waistband and pocket area. While developing MERINO SHIELD SHELL, our softshell line, our focus was on creating high-performance products for high-alpine tours. Features such as robustness, comfort through freedom of movement and breathability were particularly important. The high proportion of Cordura® in the material mix ensures the BEST POSSIBLE SCUFF RESISTANCE and LONGEVITY (min. 80.000 abrasion cycles in the Martindale test) and so offers optimum protection in the field. High FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT is guaranteed thanks to highly elastic Lycra fibers – the material used in the jacket and pants can be stretched by 20 %. Because we know how important it is that water vapor can easily escape from the inside to the outside, we trust a no-membrane design for the MERINO SHIELD SHELL line – but not completely. For the necessary pro tection, we use a WINDPROOF INSERT in the front area made from 3L LODEN PUNCHHOLE with integrated membrane. To ensure that no water can permeate in from the outside, the surface of the jacket and pants is DWR-treated. Merino wool on the interior also ensures great wear comfort and a pleasant microclimate. •• •• ••

MERINO FLEECE LIGHT TEC HOODY A seemingly endless rock face, fresh summer wind and before you a promising day of climbing between chimneys and intersections. On days like this, we need material that is ROBUST and DURABLE. For the first time, we have therefore combined the extremely light MERINO FLEECE LIGHT with the SCUFF-RESISTANT material made from CORDURA®, elastane and polyamide in our new MERINO FLEECE LIGHT TEC HOODIES. The inside of the hoodie uses soft MERINO WOOL with a fiber diameter of 19.5 microns. The waffle structure on the inside ensures good moisture wicking and feels dry on the skin. A PIONEER IN THE MOUNTAIN SPORTS INDUSTRY Since our foundation in 1980, nature has formed the basis of our business. It is our energy source, it gives us inspiration and makes us happy. At the same time, it is also our most important supplier of raw materials. As a company, we take responsibility for nature and mankind. That’s why we provide consumers with the highest possible levels of transparency in our supply chain. In 2012 we discovered Tasmania as a source for our merino wool. Now, more than 60,000 sheep on our selected farms provide the raw material for our mountainwear products. Thanks to traditional, sustainable farm management practices and a high awareness of nature, the wellbeing of our sheep has always been the focus of our activity in Tasmania. In 2017, we established the ORTOVOX WOOL PROMISE to develop these standards even more extensively, establish them as an industry guideline and fully express our values.

ANNUAL AUDITS AND COMPLETE COMMITMENT For almost a whole year, our sustainability department worked enthusiastically to develop the ORTOVOX WOOL PROMISE. In this time we went through intensive rounds of meetings with auditors, wool traders and all of the farmers from our six farms. This resulted in more than 60 indicators that will be checked annually by an independent auditor, but even more important was that all participants committed to raising the wellbeing of the sheep to an even higher level. In short, the ORTOVOX WOOL PROMISE focuses on animal welfare, farm and land management, and slaughter and transport. A certified traceability system guarantees that only the wool from our six selected farms ends up in our ORTOVOX products and that it does not get mixed with other wools during washing, when making the wool top or when producing the yarn.

MEMBER OF THE WOOL CLUB Tasmania is sparsely populated. When we met in Hobart in 2017 to launch the ORTOVOX WOOL PROMISE, it was the first time the ORTOVOX wool farmers had all met together. SWISSWOOL®

NUYARN®

Our Insulation line contains Swiss wool. This is the finest virgin wool with Swiss origins from the canton of Wallis. SWISSWOOL® places particular value on sustainable production and regional origin. Long transport routes are avoided whenever possible. Virgin wool is extremely lightweight and has excellent insulation properties. Numerous air pockets are created around the virgin wool, which can store large volumes of heat. If you pack the clothing items together, the air escapes and the products can be compressed to extremely small sizes.

The high-end yarn structure of Nuyarn® improves the performance and function of the wool. Nylon forms the core of Nuyarn®. The synthetic polyamide fiber is particularly tear-resistant, elastic and light. Merino wool is wrapped around the nylon center, creating a yarn composition that combines all of the positive features of synthetic fibers and merino wool. Nuyarn® – improves the functionality of merino wool. Your time on the mountain will be an experience to remember thanks to the improved performance of our Nuyarn® merino clothing.

In our new MERINO HARDSHELL LIGHT collection, we use the high-performance Toray Dermizax® DT membrane. This membrane from the Japanese manufacturer combines the waterproofing of a hardshell with the lightness and breathability of a windbreaker.

ADVANTAGES It is extremely breathable (up to 32,000 g/m2/24 h), windproof and completely waterproof (min. 20,000 mm H₂O). Even with little care, maximum outward diffusion is guaranteed. Dermizax® NX is ideal for high-action sports – the membrane can be stretched by 200 % with no risk of delamination. Another feature that sets it apart from other membranes is it´s environmentally friendly, PFC-less production. MERINO SHIELD VINTAGE stands for a symbiosis between organic cotton and polyamide. Cotton and polyamide are woven together and then coated with wax. The wax finish protects the organic cotton/polyamide mix against moisture and ensures a unique look and feel. For reliable protection against wet, the material is also DWR treated. The material mix is also very breathable (min. 20,000g/m² / 24h) and robust (min. 30,000 abrasion cycles in the Martindale test).

For our new MERINO SHIELD ZERO collection, we use a mix of polyamide and spandex in the main material. This lightweight material is elastic (2-way stretchable), extremely breathable, quick drying and durable (min. 30,000 abrasion cycles in the Martindale test). Inserts made of MERINO MESH in the waistband and pocket linings ensure extra comfort. The material is DWR treated and therefore water-resistant.

The cotton is organically grown and certified in accordance with the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). The GOTS is a globally applied standard for processing textiles made from organically grown natural fibers. It defines not only the environmental require ments for the whole textile production chain, but also social standards that all processors and manufacturers must meet. Quality assurance is carried out via independent certification of the whole textile supply chain.

MERINO SHIELD LIGHT MERINO SHIELD LIGHT Protection, comfort and lightness – that’s what characterizes the MERINO SHIELD LIGHT line. Thanks to the use of Cordura®, the mountain pants are extremely robust (> 100,000 abrasion cycles in the Martindale test) and very elastic due to the use of Spandex. The new material mix of Cordura®, polyamide and spandex is extremely comfortable to wear and boasts a very soft feel which does not rustle, even when moving. Inserts made of MERINO MESH in the waistband and the pockets also increase the wear comfort.

MERINO SHIELD SHELL MERINO SHIELD SHELL The MERINO SHIELD SHELL softshell line stands for maximum protection. The high proportion of Cordura® (71%) makes the product long-lasting and very resilient. Cordura® is a registered brand name of the Swiss company Invista. The fibers consist of a high-strength polyamide (nylon 6.6) with superior tear and abrasion-resistant properties compared to those of normal nylon materials. The robustness of the material mix of Cordura®, merino wool and Lycra was demonstrated by the Martindale test: this material mix can withstand at least 80,000 abrasion cycles. Thanks to the use of highly elastic Lycra fibers, the material has an elasticity of 20%. Finest merino wool on the inside guarantees great wear comfort and a pleasant microclimate, and a high level of breathability through the non-membrane design. MERINO SHIELD TEC MERINO SHIELD TEC Our MERINO SHIELD TEC collection uses Cordura® to guarantee a high degree of scuff resistance and robustness. In the Martindale test used to test scuff resistance, the primary material (65 % Cordura®) was able to withstand over 50,000 abrasion cycles. In heavily stressed areas such as the knee area, we use an extra robust material mix (> 100,000 abrasion cycles in the Martindale test). The light climbing pants are made of merino wool, spandex and polyamide, along with Cordura® – a mix that guarantees plenty of elasticity and breathability. The 4-way stretch material keeps up with each of your movements. The elaborate manufacturing process (CORESPUN technology by the Südwolle Group©) of this exclusive yarn make it so special: the finest Merino fibers are spun around a core of polyamide fibers. This spinning technique creates a yarn with a smooth fabric appearance and low volume. Thus a material that is extremely lightweight and elastic, yet extremely robust, durable and less susceptible to pilling at the same time can be produced. The 120 MERINO TEC LINE there fore combines the stability and durability of polyamide with the proven qualities of Merino wool.

In the 120 MERINO COOL TEC line, the combination of the finest Merino wool and the Tencel® fibers obtained from eucalyptus wood is now even more durable, and maintains the same naturally cooling effect. In a complicated process, the fine Merino and Tencel® fibers are spun around a core of polyamide filaments. The resulting yarn is used to produce a material that has the same benefits as Merino wool and Tencel®, and is even more robust. The knitted fabric mix of merino wool, polyester and elastane stands for pure functionality. A waffle structure on the inside makes ideal moisture wicking possible and ensures a dry and comfortable feeling on the skin. In contrast, the shell is smooth in order to provide as little contact surface as possible. The material is very elastic, robust and quick drying. The merino wool on the inside provides excellent wear comfort and outstanding temperature management.

For the SHIELD CANVAS LIGHT, ORTOVOX has combined organic cotton with polyamide and elastane. This material mix makes the line breathable, robust and elastic – all at the same time. TENCEL®

MERINO COOL AIR MESH, a combination of polyamide and MERINO COOL, is used in the lower back area (waistline) of the pants in our MERINO SHIELD SHELL line and the MERINO SHIELD TEC line. The elastic and soft AIR MESH inserts are made up of two layers: A polyamide shell and a MERINO COOL liner. There are cavities between these two layers which act as a cooling cushion and ensure high wear comfort. The MERINO COOL on the inside absorbs moisture and cools at the same time.

We use TENCEL® for all products in the MERINO COOL range. This natural fiber is obtained from eucalyptus cellulose in a highly environmentally-friendly manner and free from pollutants. In addition to TENCEL®‘s COOLING properties, the fiber also inhibits bacterial growth and has an extremely smooth fiber surface.

CLIMBING SERIES TRAD 18 Only you and the rock face and the TRAD 18 - no extra weight, nothing to get in the way. At only 225 grams, this backpack is really LIGHTWEIGHT. The highlight: when turned inside out, it can be STORED AWAY IN ITS OWN POCKET and requires only minimal space. In this way, the ultra-light TRAD 18 fits perfectly into the bigger members of the TRAD family, to be used only when you get to the rock face. The nylon fabric is characterized by its extreme light weight. It is the LIGHTEST MATERIAL that we use for our backpacks. The PU coating on the inside also makes the material waterproof.

Despite being light-weight, this extremely strong nylon yarn is PAR TICULARLY DURABLE and abrasion resistant. Thanks to its ripstop construction, this nylon fabric is also tear-resistant. The PU coating on the inside makes the fabric waterproof.

Extremely lightweight, durable and high-quality nylon fabric. The weave of two yarns makes this material extremely STURDY and ABRASION RESISTANT. Nylon fabric is also one of the LIGHTEST MATERIALS that we work into our backpacks. The PU coating on the inside makes the fabric waterproof. The DWR coating makes the outside water-resistant.

SWISSWOOL FULL CONTACT The Swisswool backs on our HIGH ALPINE SERIES backpacks are made of pressed WOOL FLEECE with a punchhole covering. Thanks to the wool, the backpack can ABSORB MUCH MORE MOISTURE FROM THE BACK and at the same time is MORE BREATHABLE than conventional backpacks that are made using foam material, for example. A further advantage of wool is that the surface of the back system dries faster. The FULL CONTACT BACK fits closely to the body and offers optimum weight distribution. The back design consists of three aluminum struts that offer HIGH STABILITY and guarantee GREAT COMFORT, even when the backpack is heavily loaded.

COMFORT CONTACT The CONTACT PADS in our ALPINE SERIES light-weight back system ensure permanent CIRCULATION OF AIR, and make our backpacks a pleasure to wear during activities that involve a great deal of movement. In addition, the soft pads offer extremely high wear comfort.

SWISSWOOL-TEC-KNIT BACK SYSTEM

The back system for our CLIMBING SERIES offers a light-weight, REMOVABLE ALUMINUM FRAME and a FULL-CONTACT CARRYING SYSTEM. The frame is very flexible, but rigid along the horizontal axis in order to bear as much weight as possible. Thanks to its 3D shape, the backpack fits closely to the back and guaranties GREAT FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT and the best possible wear comfort.

HIGH FLEX CONTACT

In the SWISSWOOL-TEC-KNIT BACK SYSTEM, we combine foam and pressed Swiss wool covered with a HIGH-TECH KNITTED FABRIC with a different hole structure. In areas with lots of back contact, we have used SWISSWOOL® PADS with a larger hole structure. That means that the wool can absorb moisture (sweat) much faster, and is simultaneously MORE BREATHABLE and FEELS DRY on your back – even during sweat-inducing climbs. We have placed foam in areas with less back contact to offer more STABILITY and better WEAR COMFORT.

This emphasis means easy coordination and increased flexibility. At the same time, our high degree of specialization requires

increasingly complex materials. Physical proximity to our suppliers, having the same cultural understanding and ensuring open communication are therefore important elements of our quality assurance. In addition, most EU countries are classified as low-risk by the Fair Wear Foundation: Trade unions, employee representatives, collective agreements and NGOs all guarantee good working conditions.
