The Fold Away
Scissor Scales A recipe for success from Joseph Joseph. With seven high pressure sensors, these accurate and stylish digital scales fold away so are easy to store and easy to use.

The Process Above are a selection of models made during the design process. Testing the shape, how it would work and where the display would go was critical. To the right is a sketch demonstrating how the product would open and close. The product should be alble to open smoothly with just the right amount of friction so it did not fly open, but not too much so that you could hardly open it.

Project Brief
Modern Twist on a Classic Design
I had 9 weeks to design and manufacture to a high quality prototype stage, a specific furniture typology - the portable free-standing storage form - as typified by the Penguin Donkey.
Form Follows Function
Focused research must be undertaken into the Isokon brand, relevant materials and manufacturing techniques, as well as appropriate target markets and user scenarios. All areas within the domestic landscape may be investigated for the development of this new ĘťDonkeyĘź.

Isokon Penguin Donkeys The Isokon Furniture Company was founded in 1935 by Jack Pritchard a British entrepreneur and visionary. He believed modern architecture and design had the ability to to transform society for the better and admired the work of the Bauhaus school in Germany and architects such as Le Corbusier in France. Like many of his most creative contemporaries, Pritchard wanted to help promote a pan-European, indeed worldwide, type of modern design and was especially determined to persuade the conservative British consumer that modern was best.

The Process For this project the process was key. Using accurate 1/10 scale models I could get a good understanding of measurements, heights and using card, a feel of how the wood would look. A key selling point of the penguin donkey is how space and material efficient they are so my aim was to do the same. By using measurements from books and magazines I could determine the minimum size in which my donkey could be. So intern, the measurements made themselves. “Form follows function”.

Work Experience Bulldog Gear are a strength and equipment specialist based in Hixon, Uk. I was fortunate enough to secure a four-month internship over the summer of 2016 with them.

Composition
Contributing towards packaging design and advertising decisions, my main task was to provide consistent product photographs throughout the website.
Profesionalism
Selection of Photos Each product needed to be shot in a similar way. Having a selection of five or more different images per product provided all the necessary angles and details needed to make it marketable. Every shot needed time and consideration. Attention to detail was so crucial when shooting. Some products needed hundreds of shots to get that perfect image. Clean lines and simple shapes. Letting the product speak for itself. Product Photography is crucial to help in the selling of a product. Gaining this experience only empathised the importance of why extra care and consideration is needed when marketing a product.
Consistency All images taken across both these pages were photographed by myself and appear on the Bulldog Gear website. The primary aim was to provide consistency of shots throughout the website. With each product needed to be shot at the same or similar angle, it helped to strengthened the brand identity and products marketability. Working at Bulldog Gear gave me a real incite to how a design team is run. Time management, organisation and team work were just a few of the many things that I picked up while working at Bulldog. Tom Faulkner designs and makes distinctive and elegant furniture. An award-winning British company, it is known for its beautiful, handmade tables, chairs, lighting and accessories, and its wide range of finishes. Stlyish
Spider Table Inspired by Tom Faulkner the Spider Table combines elegance and sophistication with the beauty and complexity of the spider web. Made of out Steel and Thread the table has been water jet cut and then hand sewn. A key selling point of FaulknerĘźs is the material choice and with a simple design it allows room for customisation and changes to the thread and the metal.
Inspiration
Sketches Initially I started sketching some different Ideas to narrow and refine the piece of furniture that I wanted to make. Using sketching I could narrow my options down and make a clearer image in my head as to the direction I wanted this project to take. Taking different elements from different drawings I could refine the aspects I wanted to keep. From here I could start applying them to my research.

The aim will be to explore different companies and identify problems or false advertising that they make have used to grab peoples attention. I will create my own own posters to highlight information that is incorrect or has been worded to hide problems or realities.

Who are they? Luxottica is a a company that has complete control of the sunglasses market. Aproximatly half a billion people are wearing these sunglasses producing over 65 million pairs of sungalsses a year. So how come half a billion people are wearing these glasses yet nobody knows who they are? With this complete domination of the market Luxottica can decide the prices of the entire market. If they want to increase the price and value in the market they can. There is no competition. To the right are all of the brands they own or make sunglasses for.

Changing Monopoly to Luxottica to drive home the point. Luxottica has been raised above the monopoly mans head to show the power and dominance that the company possesses
Giving the Monopoly man sunglasses helps illustrate the point or the difference between this monopoly man and the original. Also plays with something to hide behind.
Small writing helps to draw the user into the image. Making them read up close tells them about the company which would be followed by a step backwards to take in the whole image.
Underneath the waist are all the brands listed and with money for feet it is easy to understand what the companys ambitions and goals are.
The places are the same so have not been altered or changed. This has been done to question and make the user engage by drawing them into the image.
Most sunglasses are manufactured by a single company, named Luxottica. The Italian company makes frames and sunglasses for an substancial list of brands and stores, including:
