2022 PRESIDENT
This is Alexandra Arena-Gil, your President for 2022. This month, we are celebrating Black History Month. This is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Last month, we represented the Association at the Florida Realtors Mid-Winter Business Meetings, where we received legal updates, and much more. • Did you know that have 25,000 Realtors in Florida? • Did you know that we are divided into 13 Districts and we are #12? • Did you know that we have over 5,400 members in our Association? • Did you know that today there are only 425 SFR for sale in Osceola County? You need to get involved in what we are doing, because here at the Association we are ALL working for you! This month, we are going to Tallahassee for the Great American Realtors Days (GARD). We meet the “Lawmakers” that can vote on legislation that could affect our industry. Our voice is important; we are instrumental and essential, don’t forget! Some of our FL Initiatives for this year are: • The Hometown Hero Housing Program • Insurance relief • Protect Private Property Rights • Lowering the Business Rent Tax will increase business capital. • Advocate for greater transparency from the Management of Community Associations Two very important last things: We need your votes! I want to begin this year with a quick explanation for new members of what the REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) is and why we support it with our contributions. RPAC represents REALTORS® and GLADYS THAYER homeowners at the local, state, and national levels to ensure our interests RPAC COMMITTEE CHAIR are preserved regarding legislation and favorable candidates, regardless of party affiliation. Thanks to your generous contributions last year, we surpassed our fundraising goals in all 3 categories: financial, participation percentage, and number of major investors. This year we are challenging our membership to help us reach our new goal of $134,798! I am confident that with your support we will achieve it along with once again increasing our participation and our number of major investors. Congratulations to our first and second major investors of 2022, Stephen Langham and Tatiana Diaz. Will you be next? Please join us for our first event of the year, our 2nd Annual PAWSCARS pet contest, that will culminate with a Tail-Gate Party on March 25, 2022! We hope to see you there!
REALTORS® Care Committee The REALTORS® Care Committee may have just had their first meeting of the year on January 25, but we have been volunteering since the very first week of 2022! Continuing our ongoing service project with the Osceola Council on Aging, the committee members volunteer in pairs every Monday throughout the year delivering Meals on Wheels “for persons who are unable to prepare their own meals, primarily the frail elderly, who are confined to their homes” (Osceolagenerations.org).
CARA BRITAIN REALTORS® CARE COMMITTEE CHAIR
All members are invited to participate with us in the Council on Aging’s March for Meals on Saturday, March 12 at the Kissimmee Lakefront. This is open to members, families and friends, co-workers, and business associates. Join our Association’s team and support a deserving organization for only $20. Commercial Alliance Committee The Commercial Alliance Committee has grown, and we are looking forward to another successful year and even more accomplishments in 2022. With our larger committee base, we have big plans to create more marketing and networking opportunities for all our OSCAR members. The first event we are delighted to sponsor is the Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) Chapter’s Osceola County Growth Update set for March 9 at 8:30 a.m. in NeoCity. During this update, we will hear from various leaders in Kissimmee and St. Cloud. This event is offered to FL CCIM members at a fee of $10 and $25 for non-members. Florida Realtors® Scholarship College Scholarships are offered by Florida Realtors Education Foundation to help deserving Florida students offset the costs of college or graduate school. The Florida Realtors Education Foundation Student Scholarship Program (FREF) was founded to help deserving students offset costs for college and/or post-graduate school. commercial investors and influential industry leaders in the United States. Here’s who qualifies: • Florida high school seniors who will be attending an undergraduate college or university • Students currently enrolled in an undergraduate college or university • Students pursuing graduate studies Those students considering a career in Real Estate or Real Estate related fields will be given special consideration in accordance with the purposes of the Florida Realtors Education Foundation. However, students in any major outside are welcome to apply. Scholarships start at $1,000. The criteria for recipients include but aren’t limited to, academic achievements, financial need, leadership qualities, relationship to the Realtor family, and contributions to family, school and community. The foundation’s board of directors has sole and absolute discretion over all decisions as to whether an applicant qualifies. Applications are being accepted now through noon March 10, 2022 and can be submitted at floridarealtors.org/scholarships
