PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE It has been an exciting year at OSCAR and I could not be prouder of our membership. As technology becomes more intertwined in our industry, our Association seeks new ways to provide our members with more efficient methods to participate. Our recent election process for the 2020 Board of Directors utilized an electronic ballot and the response was outstanding. Thank you to all that took advantage of this new system and voted.

Osceola County Legislative Update

SEAN WHYARD GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS COORDINATOR

Short-Term Rental Bill Introduced in Congress H.R.4232 , the “Protecting Local Authority and Neighborhoods Act”, introduced by Rep. Case (D-HI), requires providers of short term rental listings (Airbnb, VRBO, etc.) to ensure that the properties they list are rented in compliance with state and local law. The bill amends the Communications Act of 1934 to ensure enforcement. The legislation has just been introduced and faces a long-time process before it becomes law.

There has been no update on the proposed agreement between Osceola County and Airbnb to collect the 6% Tourist Development Tax. The County Commission was supposed to consider the agreement last month but there seems to be a delay for unknown reasons.

Osceola County “Green Initiative” Commissioner Janer is leading a “green initiative” within the county in order to curb emissions and promote a more environmentally friendly community. She indicated that multiple ordinances will be coming forward for Board consideration. The two she mentioned by name were composting and solar energy. The initiative sets various benchmarks to be met by the year 2060.

These ordinances could have a significant impact on the real-estate market here in Osceola County. We will continue to monitor this and keep our members informed on the latest developments.

You will likely be nervous the first couple of times you prepare one of these. That’s normal. However, that nervous anxiety CANNOT BE due to a lack of competence. Rather, you’re anxious because you want to do it right!

Many of our classes, particularly CRP™ classes, fill quickly. We offer each CRP™ class two times during the year. Please check for the second date if the first date is full. Due to construction near our office, we have moved our education classes to a Satellite Classroom located at 2262 E. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway, Kissimmee, FL 34744 (only 0.5 miles down the road from our office). All other membership and committee activities will be held at our office on Shady Lane. Our office hours will also remain the same. The amenities are limited at the temporary location and we may be unable to provide beverages, but you may bring your own.
