CELEBRATE THE FOURTH WITH US! SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE AT OSCAR IN JULY

WHAT RPAC

MEANS FOR YOU!

Celebrate the fourth all week-long at OSCAR! Starting Monday, July 2, we’ll have cookies and cupcakes available for our members to show our Independence Day spirit, and we’ll have them available each day of the week except for Wednesday, the fourth, when we close our office to celebrate with friends and families. We’ll have plenty for everyone. So, if you’re in the area and have a sweet tooth, stop by and say Hi!

While it’s still summer vacation, the next school year is not far away. Soon children will be venturing to the stores with their parents to pick out the notebooks, pencils and other school supplies requested by their teachers, but sadly not every child will be able to do so. The Osceola County Association of REALTORS®wants to help ensure every child is able to start their next school year equally prepared. Through our REALTORS® Care Committee, the Association will be accepting school supplies all through the month of July to distribute in collaboration with the Education Foundation of Osceola County. Items requested include: notebooks, pencils, highlighters, erasers, backpacks, rulers, scissors, markers, and glue. If you would like to contribute, you can bring any of these items to the Association office at 1105 Shady Ln, Kissimmee during regular business hours from 8am-5pm on Tuesday through Friday, and 8am to 4pm on Mondays.

MEMBERS FIRST!

“FLORIDA REALTORS’® PAC (POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE), AND THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS’® RPAC (REALTOR POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE) IS A MEANS FOR YOUR REALTOR® VOICE TO BE HEARD IN POLITICS. ” READ MORE ON PG 2.

“We want to help kids be engaged and prepared in their educations to help build stronger futures that present them more opportunities in life,” explained Committee Chair, Charlie DeCarlo. “Starting the school year with brand new supplies can help the kids be excited about beginning the new year, and motivated to learn.” We start this school drive on the heels of the success of our recent suitcase drive which collected 217 suitcases to benefit foster children in the Guardian Ad Litum program. With these new suitcases, children in the foster system are will no longer need to move their belongings in trash bags. Thank you to all who donated for this cause.

WHAT RPAC

MEANS FOR YOU! PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE 2018 P RE SI D E N T

Do you have a full understanding of what RPAC is, and what it means for you? To be honest, it actually took me a while to "get it", and to be fully on board with an understanding of what RPAC represented for me, and how I could actually make a difference with my participation! Maybe I can help you to have a better understanding of the impact you can make with your own voluntary contributions to RPAC! Florida Realtors® PAC (Political Action Committee), and the National Association of REALTORS® RPAC (REALTOR® Political Action Committee) is a means for YOUR REALTOR® voice to be heard in politics. Formed in 1944 by the Congress of Industrial Organizations, the first PAC raised money for the re-election of Franklin D. Roosevelt! Both Florida Realtors’® PAC and RPAC rely on us, the REALTOR®, to give a voluntary contribution of at least our "fair share" of dollars. This money is used to support legislative candidates, and issues that are Pro-Realtor. Candidates that are supportive to the issues that are important to our profession and livelihood. RPAC does not base their support on Political Affiliation, but rather on the candidates interest and support of the Realtor Party. Some of the more recent successes though RPAC support, as reported by Florida Realtors® are: • the continued preservation of the mortgage interest deduction • a tax relief benefiting the Real Estate industry • improvement of Federal Mortgage programs • eliminating burdensome regulations inhibiting environmental quality and healthy Real Estate markets • successfully keeping mega banks from entering the Real Estate business. On a state and local level: • protect commercial commissions though the foreclosure process • prohibit cities and counties from charging Real Estate agents a business and license fee • fought, and won, a battle against a 100% increase in Real Estate transfer taxes

BECKY CHIRILLO

I'm sure there is something on that list you can find beneficial to your own business! And, therefore worthwhile of contributing to! What is our "fair share", and where does that number come from? Every state has a dollar per member goal that is set by the National RPAC Trustees. The state's annual goal is determined by how many members there are. If every member contributed their own "fair share", that yearly goal would be met! Our "fair share" amount is $20.00 per member. There are several award level goals that you may be interested in contributing towards, starting as an "Investor" with your "fair share" contribution of $20.00. There is also the • 99 Club - $99 investment annually • Capitol Club - $250 annually • Statesman - $500 first year w/ $250 annually thereafter • Gold Sustaining - $99 annually for ten years w/ $99 each year after • Sterling R - $1000 = Major Investor • Crystal R - $2500 annually • Golden R - $5000 annually Whatever your comfort level and individual goal is, I would encourage your involvement! At OSCAR we have many opportunities throughout the year to make contributions. In August, we will be having our annual RPAC auction! There are a lot of fun and interesting auction items for everyone to bid on. From small to large. From jewelry, to kitchenware, to exciting vacations! And, all of your winning bid amounts will count towards your annual goal amounts! A lot of fun, with dinner included! I hope to see you there!

VOLUNTEERS ASSIST IN SENIOR SERVICE PROJECT Members of the REALTORS® Care Committee and other selfless volunteers set aside time in their day recently to engage with the community as part of the committee’s Senior Service Project. The purpose of the project is to help local seniors with household work, like yard maintenance and improvements. On June 11th and June 13th, teams of volunteers from the Association met at local senior residences to help with some laborious yard work while bringing a little curbside appeal to their homes. Volunteers included: Becky Chirillo, Josiah Chirillo, Sue Vasquez, Leslie Hanna, Lisa Bennett, Justin Shrouder, Nicholas Shrouder, Milinda Knollinger, Jacob Knollinger, Chad Knollinger, Wanda Linscott, Charlie DeCarlo, Lynn DeCarlo, and Sean DeCarlo.

Committee Chair, Charlie DeCarlo extended his gratitude to these volunteers, saying, “It’s wonderful these individuals would give of their time to help our senior citizens with burdensome chores. They braved the summertime heat to beautify a property and brighten someone’s day, and the whole neighborhood will appreciate the fine work they have done. We’re very grateful that these individuals would put forth their time and effort to show how much REALTORS® care about our communities.”

GLITZ AND GLAMOUR AT THE BLACK TIE GALA

TERESA REILLY O’DOHERTY 2018 CHAIR-GLOBAL ALLIANCE COMMITTEE In June, the Global Alliance Committee hosted our first ever Black Tie Gala, a fundraising event orchestrated to benefit Mercy Corps, a favorite organization of the Committee which provides humanitarian assistance across the world. The event, held at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Kissimmee, brought in a healthy sum for the organization on top of thousands raised in previous events. The committee feels it is important not to lose sight of the ongoing need of this organization. Worldwide turmoil is an unfortunate reality, and as a committee with a global focus on bettering society, we want to be a reliable supporter for their humanitarian endeavors.

Mercy Corps makes its mission to alleviate suffering, poverty and oppression by helping people build secure, productive and just communities. Recent challenges being addressed by the charity include the volcanic eruption in Guatemala, the global refugee crisis, and political upheaval in Venezuela. We will continue our fundraising efforts for the organization with our upcoming Wine Down on July 12th at Solara Westside. This event will bring together real estate professionals with an interest in getting a foothold in Florida’s robust international market. This networking event will have a $5 cover with all money going directly to the charity. If you would like to know more about Mercy Corps, or how you can help, visit www.mercycorps.org.

All proceeds benefit the Presentation Brothers Associates program for feeding hungry children in our community.

REGISTER NOW FOR THE FLORIDA REALTORS® CONVENTION & TRADE EXPO This August, Florida Realtors® will welcome REALTOR® members to attend their 102nd Convention and Trade Expo at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort in Orlando. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with other REALTORS® and real estate experts while taking in entertainment and building your skill set through some of the many classes offered. The Convention begins August 7 with REBarCamp and opens the Trade Expo and education sessions on the 8th and 9th. It will wrap up on the 10th through 12th when governance meetings are conducted. Highlights from this convention include award winning entertainers, Penn and Teller; popular band Party on the Moon; magician Ryan Oakes; and keynote speaker Platon, an award-winning photographer and master storyteller. And this represents just a fraction of the guest speakers scheduled for this convention. In between events and classes, attendees can check out the Trade Expo, which is not to be missed! It is free to attend and will feature more than 200 exhibitors and industry experts.

Here you will be introduced to new products and services that can help you in your trade, and it’s a great opportunity to pick up some freebies and enter to win prizes.

TWIS LIZASUAIN CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

If you purchase tickets before July 6, costs will be just $150 for members, and $175 for non-members. Through the 30th, the cost of attendance is $160 for members and $185 non-members. This will allow you full convention access, which includes all education seminars, governance meetings, and of course the trade expo. Several ticketed events are also available including a REALTORS® night out at Epcot for $85. If any of this sounds interesting to you, visit http://convention.floridarealtors.org/ for more info on events, schedules, and registration info. We hope we will see you at this important REALTOR® event!

SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

2018 RPAC COMMITTEE CHAIR

Since 1969, the REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) has promoted the election of pro-REALTOR® candidates across the United States. The purpose of RPAC is clear: REALTORS® raise and spend money to elect candidates who understand and support their interests. The money to accomplish this comes from voluntary contributions made by REALTORS®. These are not members’ dues; this is money given freely by REALTORS® in recognition of how important campaign fundraising is to the political process. RPAC doesn’t buy votes. RPAC enables REALTORS® to support candidates that support the issues that are important to their profession and livelihood. It is vital to protecting our industry and private property rights. It is a form of your own personal business insurance policy. In June, volunteer members participated in a phone bank to help raise funds for the Association’s 2018 RPAC goal. We had great success but we are still striving to hopefully surpass that goal and coming August 4th, we will be hosting our Annual RPAC Auction. We hope you will attend as it is a great opportunity to mingle over drinks and food and network with other professionals. We have some great items this year and think you will have a blast bidding on some really cool stuff and showing your support for this important initiative. Please mark your calendar for this fun and exciting event and help RPAC help you.
