OSCAR SUPPORTED CANDIDATES The Osceola County Association of REALTORS® is an advocate for home ownership and private property rights. As such, our Association pays close attention to the political landscape, studying upcoming legislation, and interfacing with elected officials and candidates to have dialog on critical industry issues that affect homeowners and would-be homeowners. Each election cycle, our Candidate Screening Committee interviews local candidates to discuss their views on topics that concern the ease of access to homeownership and rights associated with ownership. After careful consideration, the Committee supports the following candidates for the primary election on August 28, 2018: Cheryl Grieb for County Commissioner, District 4; Shel Hart for School Board, District 1; and Viviana Janer for County Commissioner, District 1.

Last week I met with our upcoming Board of Directors to discuss the future of our Association as we look “Together Towards Tomorrow.” In 2019, we’re continuing our focus on building our success as a growing Association. We’ll be bringing members the events and professional development opportunities they have been asking for, and committing ourselves to the highest standard of excellence.

We will be starting the coming year with new leadership, and I would like to take this moment to welcome my fellow directors: Joe Johnson (President-Elect); Becky Chirillo (Past-President); Alexandra Arena-Gil (Secretary): Donnie Martinez (Treasurer); Tim Weisheyer; Ben Robles, Jr.; Maria Flores-Garcia; Teresa Reilly-O’Doherty; Imran Mohamed; Jose Alvarez; Norkis Fernandez-Valdez; Gladys Thayer; Jose Ortiz; and John Goldsborough.

Our planning session, facilitated by Alice Martin, gave us a chance to review our previously set goals, assess our progress towards those goals, and create an improved roadmap for our future success.

Our Board of Directors is motivated to make the upcoming year a standout year as we work together towards a better tomorrow here at our Association.

COMMITTEE VOLUNTEERS

Are you interested in taking an active role in our Association? We’re looking for volunteers who have a passion for leadership to take part in one or more of our committees and task forces. Through our committees we engage with the community, plan annual budgets, create policies and bylaws, and more. In short, our committees help build our success as an Association. On September 1, we will open the application acceptance period for interested members who would like to lend their talents and experience to such an important role. We have a number of committees listed below for members to consider. REALTOR® POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE

REALTORS® CARE COMMITTEE

AWARDS TASK FORCE

Working with and through RPAC-Florida and RPAC of NAR, the RPAC committee is responsible for raising funds for the furtherance of candidates, political parties, political committees and issue activies consistent with election laws on a non-partisan basis.

Seeks, develops, and promotes opportunites for OSCAR and its members to be engaged in the community in which we serve. The committee encourages involvement from members to promote the REALTOR® brand, image, and mission.

Considers nominations made by members for various award opportunities throughout the year on the local, state, and national level. The task force is also responsible for selecting recipients of OSCAR’s internal annual recognitions and awards.

TWIS LIZASUAIN CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

GLOBAL ALLIANCE COMMITTEE

Positions OSCAR members internationally as influential and authoritative representatives of the Florida real estate profession and provides members with exposure within the international arena that will generate business and contacts.

EDUCATION TASK FORCE

This task force will conduct a review of all established OSCAR college scholarship program applicants and submit recommendations to the Board of Directors on scholarship recipients.

COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE TASK FORCE

This task force will establish contribution goals in terms of volunteer hours, in-kind and monetary sponsorships, and donations and direct fundraising. It will assist in the association in promoting specific projects, volunteerism, fundraising and raising awareness of our mission.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TASK FORCE

Provides guidance and background information regarding continuing education, certification, and designation offerings; reviews current course offerings and delivery systems; and ensures up-to-date and relevant education is offered.

COMMERCIAL ALLIANCE TASK FORCE

Identifies and connects commercial real estate practioner members and members with a potential interest in commercial specialties. Members connect with commercial overlay boards, commercial specialty institutes, and commercial marketing platforms.

CREATE THE FUTURE TASK FORCE

This task force will engage in all established OSCAR projects for children throughout the community through volunteer action and fundraising. Members willl serve as liaisons to the organization and/or original project, recruit, organize, and manage volunteers.

BUDGET AND FINANCE COMMITTEE

Considers and recommends ways and means to property finance OSCAR, submits to the Board of Directors a budget for adoption, and provides oversight of the financial management and financial reporting function.

MFRMLS TASK FORCE

The purpose of this committee is to make recommendations on MLS software enhancements, plus identify and report problems within the MLS system programs. This committee will make recommendations for the chair to present at the MFRMLS SAC Board and OSCAR meetings.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE

Identifies and interviews candidates to serve as Officers and Directors and recommends a slate of nominees to present to the Board of Directors and membership for the annual election.

OSCEOLA BROKERS COMMITTEE

The purpose of this committee is to bring Brokers and Managers together for networking opportunities, to discuss and learn effective ways to operate business, and provide relevant education opportunites for brokerages to share.

PAST PRESIDENTS COUNCIL

The purpose of the Past Presidents Council is to serve as a Presidential Advisory Group and a resource to officers and administrators. The council will also assist in development and implementation of a leadership program to identify and groom potential leaders.

MEMBERS OF THE FOLLOWING COMMITTEES ARE APPOINTED

First up is our 5-day Certified International Property Specialist Institute starting on September 24! In November, we’ll have the Military Relocation Professional Certification course, and in December, we’ll offer members a chance to earn their Resort and Second Home Property certification with our Home Sweet (Second) Home class, or a chance to work toward their CRS designation on December 13 and 14 with our Business Planning and Marketing for the Real Estate Professional course. Just call us to register for any of these classes and let us know you would like to redeem your voucher. Hurry! These vouchers will expire at the end of this year!

If you’re looking for ways to enhance your marketability as a skilled professional in a way that puts you a cut above the rest, it’s time to start considering adding designations and/or certifications to your business credentials. A few extra letters next to your name is your way to signal to clients that you have the specialized training that allows you to easily answer their questions and be a skilled asset through the home buying and selling process. We’ve lined up a number of courses that can enhance your resume and professional reputation in the coming months, starting with the Certified International Property Specialist Institute later this month. This 5-day series of courses is geared for those looking to cater to international clientele, teaching the legal and cultural issues you will need to be sensitive to when servicing this demographic. On November 16, we’ll be offering the Military Relocation Professional Certification course. This full day class helps attendees better serve our service men and women, explaining the benefits of VA financing and how to assist relocating families. This course is 8 credit hours and earns attendees the MRP Certificate.

Two more great opportunities for members looking to enhance their professional development are coming up in December. First is our Home Sweet (Second) Home – RSPS Certification Course happening on December 3. Another full day course, completion of this class can be counted as an elective for the ABR designation, in addition to earning the attendee an RSPS Certificate. This course is good for agents looking to specialize in luxury properties, vacation homes, and investment properties. Finally, we are offering our 2nd CRS course of the year, Business Planning and Marketing for the Real Estate Professional. This course is a 2-day course worth 16 CEs and will be offered on December 13 and 14. After taking this two-day course, students will know how to think like a business owner, with the ability to develop a complete business plan with strategies they can implement immediately to take their business to the next level. THANK YOU FOR YOUR RPAC SUPPORT! Early this past August we hosted our annual RPAC Auction at Osceola Heritage Park. This event, one of our most celebrated networking events of the year, was a hit with attendees who showed up to lend their support to the REALTORS® Political Action Committee. RPAC exists to provide REALTORS® like you with a fair playing field by engaging with legislators at the state and federal level, promoting private property rights and legislation that promotes ease of access to homeownership. That’s why it’s so important that we support RPAC in turn. Each year we host the RPAC Auction to help the organization help REALTORS® and homeowners alike. This year, thanks to members like you we were able to raise $27,068 at the auction on top of other donations throughout the year. In total, we have raised $63,226, well above our goal of $59,000 for the year. Our valued RPAC donors understand the value the PAC brings to us all in the industry. As new challenges emerge in the coming year, we will continue to fight for our industry’s success by aiming to raise even more for 2019.
