For the September newsletter, I wanted to introduce to you the 2021 Board of Directors. Starting with the executive committee, your incoming President for 2021 is Donnie Martinez, President-Elect is Alexandra Arena-Gil, Treasurer Ben Robles, Jr., Secretary Imran Mohamed, and CEO Twis Lizasuain. Contributions are not deductible for income tax purposes. Contributions to RPAC are voluntary and are used for political purposes. You may refuse to contribute without reprisal. The National Association of REALTORS® or any of its state associations or local boards will not favor or disfavor any member because of the amount contributed. 70% of each contribution is used by your state PAC to support state and local political candidates. Until your state reaches its RPAC goal, 30% of each contribution is sent to the National RPAC to support federal candidates and is charged against your limits under 2 U.S.C. 411a. After the state PAC reaches its RPAC goal it may elect to retain your entire contribution for use in supporting state and local candidates.

NEW! Flood Factor We wanted to share with you that on August 26, realtor.com® launched new flood risk data features which will be available on most for-sale properties on realtor.com®.

What are these features?

At an individual property level, realtor.com® will offer insights into Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)-categorized flood zones and a new Flood Factor™ feature, which is the result of a realtor.com® data integration with the First Street Foundation, a nonprofit research and technology group. The First Street Foundation Flood Model includes data for more than 142 million homes and properties across the U.S. Flood Factor™ includes a flood risk score ranging from 1 (minimal risk) to 10 (extreme risk) and an indication of whether that risk is increasing, decreasing, or constant over the next 30 years.

In addition, a graph shows the cumulative risk of flooding for a property over the typical 30-year period of ownership, along with the FEMA-categorized flood zone for the property, and whether flood insurance is required. Flood insurance options, when available, are provided to realtor.com® users.

Here are some distinguishing features for both: Flood Factor™

FEMA

• Provides accurate, property-level flood risk information • Incorporates current and future environmental changes • Maps multiple flood zones and risk levels • Includes more flood sources such as heavy rainfall • Nationwide coverage and updated quarterly • Assesses historic flood patterns and projects future risk

• Provides detailed, community-wide flood risk information • Maps the 100-year flood zone and indicates whether a property is “in or out” of this zone • Does not provide information specific to individual properties • Based on site specific, engineering studies but limited to two risks (riverine and storm surge) • Limited geographic coverage and not updated frequently • Assesses historic flood patterns • Used by community regulators, banks and lenders

Flood Factor™ data augments FEMA’s maps, so real estate professionals can use both tools on realtor.com® to: • Help reduce the number of clients who buy high-risk properties by surprise or list properties before mitigating the risk • Help reduce flood-related surprises at the closing table by helping their buyer and seller clients perform due diligence and increase confidence in real estate markets particularly where FEMA does not currently map • Agents and brokers can use the feature to provide additional context, guidance and insights to their buyer and seller clients with regard to flood conditions and potential flood risk for properties and communities across the country.

The program continues to produce videos, host webinars, and create marketing materials and presentations for Associations to use with their members. As part of NAR’s ongoing efforts to keep our members safe, we dedicate September as REALTOR® Safety Month.

Education Opportunities Our Association offers a variety of courses, designations and certifications our members can conveniently take online. Our upcoming certification is At Home With Diversity®. The course work for the At Home with Diversity® certification is designed to enable you to work successfully with and within a rapidly changing multicultural market. It will help you to learn diversity sensitivity, how it applies to U.S. fair housing laws in your business, and ways to develop professional guidelines for working with people in the increasingly multicultural real estate market.

Last Chance To Register For The Women In Real Estate Conference The one-day Women in Real Estate conference (WIRE), presented by Florida Realtors, features a high-profile roster of speakers — women of influence in the real estate profession. The 2020 WIRE conference will take place Wednesday, September 30, at Tampa Marriott Water Street, 505 Water St., Tampa.

Cost is $125 with online registration. After September 23, registration will be $150 and handled on-site. WIRE's goal is to educate, empower and promote women in the real estate profession.

The National Association of Realtors® announced that the 2020 REALTORS® Conference & Expo, previously scheduled from November 13-16 in New Orleans, will be transitioned to a fully virtual format in light of ongoing health and safety concerns stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.

NAR completed the first-ever virtual iteration of its Legislative Meetings from May 12-14, where 28,000 participating Realtors® nearly tripled the annual conference’s average attendance. NAR will announce more details, including registration information, in the coming weeks. The virtual format will allow NAR’s full organizational governance processes to proceed as normal during the conference, which will also include relevant speakers, energizing live-streamed content, networking opportunities and an industry expo.
