HBC Osceola County - Contractor Meet and Greet Reunión para Contratistas Por Roberta Medina Condado Osceola, FL - La reunión para Contratistas del Condado Osceola, se llevó a cabo el 30 de mayo de 2012 en el Osceola Heritage Park y fue todo un éxito. Esta fue la primera vez en que se hace un evento de esta naturaleza en el Condado. Este evento fue un esfuerzo conjunto presentado por el Hispanic Business Council de Kissimmee/Osceola y patrocinado por la Junta de Comisionados del Condado Osceola, el Distrito Escolar del Condado Osceola, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, Wyndham Worldwide, Gaylord Palms Resorts, HBIF, y cnFMSDC. Contractors Meet and Greet By Roberta Medina Osceola County, FL - The Osceola County Contractors Meet and Greet which took place on May 30, 2012 at Osceola Heritage Park was a huge success. This was a first for the County to present an event like this. This event was a joint effort presented by the Kissimmee/Osceola County Chamber of Commerce - Hispanic Business Council and sponsored by the Osceola County Board of County Commissioners, the School District of Osceola County, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, Wyndham Worldwide, Gaylord Palms Resorts, HBIF, and the Central and North Florida Minority Supplier Development Council. They

brought together 15 prime contractors to meet with sub contractors to create work opportunities and build future and long-lasting relationships. The event attracted over 100 businesses and over 200 attendees. It was a great turnout and there was certainly a lot of interaction. We look forward to creating more opportunities in Osceola County for minority owned businesses and sub contractors. Presidential Medal of Freedom Washington, D.C. - On Tuesday May 29th, Dolores Huerta—a civil rights, immigrant, workers and women’s advocate—received the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her work with the National Farmworkers Association, her co-founding of the United Farm Workers of America, and her pivotal work in securing California’s Agricultural Labor Relations Act of 1975 along with disability insurance for farmworkers in California. Dolores Huerta has dedicated her entire life to bettering the lives of others and was honored for her service. As recently as 2002, she started the Dolores Huerta Foundation, an organization dedicated to developing community organizers and national leaders. In 1998, President Clinton awarded her the Eleanor Roosevelt Award for Human Rights.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is our Nation’s highest civilian honor, presented to individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors. President Obama commemorated Memorial Day on May 28th at the Arlington National Cemetery. He reminded Americans of the love of country that our veterans and service members show and how they have given everything in service to our country and in the defense of our nation’s founding principles. The President also visited the Vietnam Memorial in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War. Hispanics have served in every war since the founding of our country.

Local host families needed for foreign teens Osceola County, FL - Foreign high school students are scheduled to arrive soon for academic year homestay programs, and the sponsoring organization needs a few more local host families. The students are anxiously awaiting news of their new families. This is the last chance for these young ambassadors to fulfill their lifelong dreams, and their placement deadlines are rapidly approaching. According to Pacific Intercultural Exchange (P.I.E.) President, John Doty, the students are all between the ages of 15 and 18 years, are Englishspeaking, have their own spending money, carry accident and health insurance, and are anxious to share their cultural experiences with their new American families. P.I.E. currently has programs to match almost every family’s needs, ranging in length from one semester to a full academic year, where the students attend local public and private high schools. P.I.E. area representatives match students with host families by finding common interests and lifestyles through an in-home meeting. Prospective host families are able to review

student applications and select the perfect match. As there are no “typical” host families, P.I.E. can fit a student into just about any situation, whether it is a single parent, a childless couple, a retired couple or a large family.

For the upcoming programs, P.I.E. has students from Germany, the Former Soviet Union, Venezuela, Argentina, Norway, Belgium, The Netherlands, Brazil, Korea, Mexico, Denmark, China, and many other countries.

Families who host for P.I.E. are also eligible to claim a monthly charitable contribution deduction on their itemized tax returns for each month they host a sponsored student.

Selections of the top athletes were made by local high school athletic coaches and athletic directors, as well as Florida Sports Hall of Fam and legendary newspaper prep sports columnist Bill Buchalter, who works for Bright House Sports Network. An award was also presented for the Athletic Director of the Year to Mal Harpell of Poinciana High School. “These are the top high school athletes and they deserve to be recognized for their accomplishments,” said Paul Kosuth, General Manager of Bright House Sports Network. “We want to make sure that these young men and women receive the praise and acknowledgement they deserve for the skills and accomplishments they have demonstrated in their sports all through high school.” The Central Commission is Bright House

Automated IRS System helps College-Bound atudents with financial aid process Central Florida - College-bound students and their parents typically want to make every dollar and every minute of the college experience count including money spent on tuition and time spent on the college financial aid application process. The Internal Revenue Service is helping minimize the time spent on the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form by automating access to federal tax returns with the IRS Data Retrieval Tool. This tool provides the opportunity for applicants to automatically transfer the required tax data onto the FAFSA form. Here are some tips on using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool: Benefits: The IRS Data Retrieval tool is an easy and secure way to access and transfer tax return information directly onto the FAFSA form, saving

time and improving accuracy. Also, the increased accuracy reduces the likelihood of being selected for verification by the school’s financial aid office. Eligibility Criteria: Taxpayers who wish to use the tool to complete their 2012 FAFSA form must: ● have filed a 2011 tax return; ● possess a valid Social Security Number; ● have a Federal Student Aid PIN (individuals who don’t have a PIN, will be given the option to apply for one through the FAFSA application process); ● have not changed marital status since Dec. 31, 2011. Yes, in 2012 Osceola County voters will go to the polls several times to express their political preferences, to select those who want to stay for an additional period, and to execute their rights as citizens. On August 14 Primary Elections will take place; and November 6 will be the day to go to the polls for the General Election, County and City of Kissimmee open positions. KUA - Noticias / News Spurs le enseña al OKC cómoajugar el Juego 2 Guía KUA alerta clientes de fraude nivelen Disponible de preparación nacional para Huracanes Kissimmee, FL - Kissimmee Utility Authority está alertando a sus clientes para que estén enterados de un fraude en KUA 2012 varios estados que ha llegado hasta Kissimmee. El fraude está dirigido a clientes de la empresa y tiene el objetivo de robar identidades y pagos a la compañía.

KUA Warns Customers Nationwide Scam

Kissimmee, FL - Kissimmee Utility Authority is warning its customers to be aware of a multi-state scam that has made its way to Kissimmee. The scam targets utility customers and aims to steal identities and utility payments. Under the scam, customers are being told that President Obama has approved special funding through the Federal Reserve Bank for utility bill assistance. There is no such funding. Through automated phone calls, in person door-to-door visits, and online solicitation, the scammers are asking customers for personal information, such as social security identification numbers. They then provide victims with a fraudulent bank routing number with which to pay their utility bills. “Several customers have notified us that they had been contacted in recent days,” said Susan Postans, vice president of customer service. “Customers who believe they have been victimized by the scam should contact us at 407-933-9800.”
