This important step occurred after years of careful investigation of Father McGivney’s life, spirituality and holiness by the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. The declaration of Venerable confirmed what those who knew him in life, and others who call upon him since his death, have believed about Father McGivney: He lived a life of heroic virtue with an extraordinary love of God and neighbor. Having been raised to the honors of the altar, Blessed Michael McGivney has an annual feast day of Aug. 13, the day between his birthday (in 1852) and the he passed into eternal (Continued on page 3)

PRAYER FOR CANNONIZATION God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Blessed Michael McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue, may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify Blessed Michael McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request). STATE OFFICER REPORT TO BOLDLY GO WHERE NO ONE HAS GONE BEFORE It is no surprise to some of you that this phrase would one day end up here. I still get that way when I turn on Heroes & Icons and catch a couple hours of Trek before dozing off on the couch.
Trekking into the unknown is something that we have in common with both Christopher Columbus and now, Blessed Fr. Michael McGivney. Columbus had theories but no solid proof before heading out across the Atlantic. He was laughed out of a lot of places before Isabella granted him his ships and crews.

As Knights, we should always be looking to go where no one has gone before to put our faith into action, to grow our Order, to defend our faith and families and to protect one another. It is not about programs and events, but what we do together. No matter the problems, no matter the difficulties, we can always look to Christopher Columbus and Blessed Fr. MEMBERSHIP REPORT As of October 30, there are 50-new members which puts us at 15.1% of our intake goal. We should be in the area of 33% during normal conditions. 87% of our districts have recruited as least one (1) new member with the only districts being #28 and #31. District #34 is the inactive/suspended councils. Despite that, only 36.2% of the councils have actually recruited. We know that these are difficult and challenging times. Please make sure that you are trying especially with the MCGIVNEY2020 campaign through the end of the year. We have requested that you advertise in all the church bulletins the MCGIVNEY2020 graphic that was sent out a couple of weeks ago. If you need it again, contact Jim and he will get it to you. You will see information in the Northeast Ohio Catholic Magazine this coming month as well as some of their emails. Jim has secured some time on AM1260 to start to advertise not only this but KofC News and Notes. We will start to make those available to you when we can. Membership is a challenging enough without COVID. However, you all know what good we can do when we pray. Let me know if there is anything we can do to help you.

DISTRICT REPORT Brothers, It is great to hear that many of you are finding ways to keep your councils active while still staying safe. Some of you were doing outside activities in the warmer months. Some councils had special activities honoring Fr. McGivney’s Beatification Mass. Many will hold memorial masses or other activities around Veterans Day. Hopefully, most of your councils will be helping needy families especially around the upcoming holidays. Well, the State staff would like to know what your council is doing. We also want you to get credit for a job done well. It only takes a few minutes to report each activity on the state website. Give us how many Knights participated, how many Knight hours were spent on the activity and a few sentences describing the activity. If you have any questions, your District Deputy can help you out.

Varsity Coats for Needy Folks My name is John Fox, and I am Deputy Grand Knight of the St. Ladislas Council # 16373 and I am asking for your help. Several years ago while attending noon mass at St. Malachi parish in November, I saw a man sitting on the church steps dressed in a light coat shivering, he took up residence in my mind. Several weeks later while cleaning out a closet I came across a varsity coat that my son had worn in high school and left when he went to college. I began to wonder how many other families had similar coats that they might donate. I made contact with the Care Alliance through the Arrupe Program at St. Ignatius High School. Over the last several years, the program, which my daughter named "Varsity Coats for Needy Folks" has grown to provide hundreds of coats for the homeless. With the help of the high schools we have been able to meet the need each year. That the weather conditions in Cleveland can be treacherous, goes without saying. Many homeless in northeast Ohio lack proper winter coats to fend off the severe weather conditions, sometimes the lack of a winter coat presents a critical challenge to survive the conditions. The number of homeless camps in the area continues to grow, when I first started there were 70 camps, last year the number grew to more than 125 and with the financial problems brought on by Covid 19, I expect it to be larger this year. Due to lack of space in the homeless shelters many are forced to sleep outside, some in tents, others in cardboard shacks to fend off the fierce winds and the ice and snow. Sometimes a winter coat is all the protection that they have from the elements. With the schools unable to fulfill the need of the heavy winter coats, we are asking for help from our brother Knights and Councils. Large men's winter coats are in great need along with hoodies. God Bless you and thank you for your help. Vivat Jesus! John Fox, Varsity Coats for Needy Folks Phone: (216) 543-3350 / Email: trinity.fox7@gmail.com
