STATE OFFICER REPORT “A good tree does not bear rotten fruit, nor does a rotten tree bear good fruit.” - Luke 6:43 In the Gospel passage above, we see the final chapter of Jesus’ sermon on the plain. Told through a series of parables, Jesus seeks to teach his followers the true meaning of discipleship and how to achieve it.
front of us. Some of the challenges include dealing with the slow membership growth, councils still struggling to get started during COVID, and just the overall dynamics that are playing out in the world today. Together, with God, we will be alright. We just may need to get a little dirty to get things moving. We have spent a lot of time to get Super Cash Bonanza off and running for State Treasurer Mike Felerski. Mike’s target is that million dollars in sales. I believe that he can get it as more and more councils are looking to partner and mail out tickets than in the past.
In the first parable, Jesus poses a question to his followers. He asks, “Can a blind person guide a blind person? Will not both fall into a pit?” The second parable, Jesus compares The Diocesan Free Throw contest is his disciples to the ripe fruit scheduled for Sunday, March 6 at St. produced by a bountiful tree. At the Mid-Year Meeting, I had the pleasure on behalf of you, of giving the Diocese of Cleveland a check for almost $10,000 to be used for continuing Catholic education. I look forward to a great 2022 Campaign starting in September for the Diocese. I will be challenging all of your councils to donate a minimum of $25. Look for that challenge at the State Tour. Join us on April 2, 2022 at the Holiday Inn at Rockside for the inperson Catholic Men’s Fellowship Conference. The Knights of Columbus will be there in full force. Stop by and say hello! The Cleveland Convention Committee is working to put together our first in-person state convention since the last time in 2019 when we were at Kalahari. The convention will be May 13-15, 2022. Watch for an email and USPS letter explaining the convention here in the next week. Councils should be electing delegates and alternates in March to prepare for the convention. If your council is interested in hosting the 2022 State Tour stop here in Cleveland, let me know. We will be looking at the first weekend in July. God is great and he is certainly keeping the Knights busy. Lets show out Cleveland Spirit and finish the year strong. Vivat Jesus! Jim Maslach, State Advocate

MEMBERSHIP REPORT As of 2/26/2022, the State Membership total is at 849 which is 46% of the 1,850 goal. For Cleveland, we are at 41% of our Goal with a total of 139-new brother Knights. Overall, we remains in the positive with 103 net gain. The Affiliate Member Initiative Pilot Program from Supreme closed on February 28, 2022. This was an opportunity for councils to remove members that have not been responsive to council inquiries over the past 18+ months. For now, we are back to the original suspension process. Time will tell if Supreme will offer the Affiliate Member Initiative on a more permanent basis. March is traditionally our Membership Blitz Month. Look to put an ad in your parish bulletins and ask the pastor if either you or he can make a pitch for the Knights of Columbus. Stress that candidates that sign-up online and use the promo code MCGIVNEY2020 will have their
membership dues free for the first year. What a great way to “kick the tires” see what the Knights are all about. If you need any help with your membership drive, Brett Hazen, Mike Incorvati and Jim Maslach are here to help. All you need to is ask. The March State Membership Incentive is below for you to work. Our State Membership Director, Michael Freil, is working hard to bring you opportunities to help your councils out, financially, as you recruit new members. Take advantage of that at all costs! We have four months left in this fraternal year. A number of councils have already reached their membership goal this year. What is holding you back? You can do it with a little effort and some creativity. Lets start that push to June 2022 and put Cleveland over the top.

EMEMBERSHIP & MORE There are 109-emember candidates within the 60-day window throughout the state. For Cleveland, we have 13-emembers that might be interested in joining a local council. An email is sent to the Grand Knight, Financial Secretary and, if on record, the Council Membership Directors with the contact information. If you are NOT receiving this, please contact Jim Maslach so we can update our contact database. If your council is listed to the right, you have e-members right now that you can reach out to. It is possible that they will not be interested in joining a local council, and that is OK. They will still get updates from Supreme and the State. If that is the case, please let Jim Maslach know so we can update our database and not necessarily bother you when it gets close to the 60-day window. Please market the eMembership in your parish bulletins and encourage your members to recruit using the online process. It only takes 40-seconds to be come a Knight but the rewards can last a lifetime!
Remember, MCGIVNEY2020 is still active through JUNE 30, 2022. So, there is no better time to become a Knight and see what we do for our faith, parishes and communities. Sign-Up a new member today by visiting www.kofcohio.org and click JOIN US!

Exemplifications of Charity, Unity and Fraternity are available to bring in new, transfer online members, or advance 1st and 2nd degree members to the 3rd Degree. The Exemplifications are available, through the state, live via Zoom, on Wednesdays at 7PM. GK and FS should have the registration link. If not, reach out to Jim Maslach, State Advocate. The link is not public so that the council knows who and when they are making their Exemplification. Live and in-person Exemplifications are coming back more than before. Check out the state calendar for a live in-person Exemplification in your area. If you are interested, you can host an Exemplification and put together a team. It is really easy and it provides a deep relationship with our principles. Contact Brett, Mike or Jim for more info. Also, our traveling Diocesan team is available. Contact Jim to make the arrangements.
