A SAINT IN THE MAKING
On May 26, 2020, Pope Francis approved a decree recognizing a miracle attributed to the intercession of Father McGivney and opening the way for his beatification. On Oct. 31, the Mass for Beatification was celebrated in the Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Hartford, Conn. An Apostolic Letter was read from Pope Francis that declared Father McGivney would now have the title of Blessed Michael McGivney. He is the third priest born in the United States to be raised to this honor, and the first priest to be beatified who spent his whole priestly ministry in a US parish.
The pope’s Apostolic Letter stated that Blessed Michael McGivney’s “zeal for the proclamation of the Gospel and generous concern for the needs of his brothers and sisters made him an outstanding witness of Christian solidarity and fraternal assistance.”
The Cause for Canonization for Father McGivney was opened in the Archdiocese of Hartford in 1997, when he was given the title Servant of God.
On March 15, 2008, his heroic virtue was recognized by Pope Benedict XVI, and Father McGivney was given the title Venerable Servant of God. This important step occurred after years of
Causes of Saints. The declaration of Venerable confirmed what those who knew him in life, and others who call upon him since his death, have believed about Father McGivney: He lived a life of heroic virtue with an extraordinary love of God and neighbor.
Having been raised to the honors of the altar, Blessed Michael McGivney has an annual feast day of Aug. 13, the day between his birthday (in 1852) and the day he passed into eternal life (in 1890). His cause has now entered the final phase toward canonization or sainthood. One more confirmed miracle attributed to the intercession of Blessed Michael McGivney is needed for him to be declared saint.
careful investigation of Father McGivney’s life, spirituality and holiness by the Congregation for the
God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Blessed Michael McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue, may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church.
Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify Blessed Michael McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request).
Through Christ our Lord. Amen
All Knights and their families, as well as all those devoted to Father McGivney, are asked to pray for his intercession in their daily needs, especially in cases of serious illness, and to report any favors and healings to the Guild.
HIS VISION, YOUR MISSION
You can play a key role in advancing Father McGivney’s cause by joining the Guild for free and praying for his intercession and canonization. May Father McGivney intercede for you! The Father Michael J. McGivney Guild serves as a source for information about the life, works and spirituality of Father McGivney. The Guild publishes a quarterly newsletter and offers a weekly Mass for the intentions of members.

SUPREME NEWS & NOTES
KNIGHTS SUPPORT VICTIMS IN UKRAINIAN CITIES
The cities of Chernihiv, in northern Ukraine, and Irpin, near Kyiv, were both devastated by the Russian invasion. Knights of Columbus from Blessed Mykolay Charnetsky Council 16890 in Irpin recently stepped in to help residents with donations of food, medicine and more. (More)
KNIGHTS RESPOND TO HURRICANES FIONA, IAN
Hurricane Ian caused at least 137 fatalities and billions of dollars in damages when it crossed Cuba and the southeast United States in late September, making it the deadliest hurricane to strike the state of Florida since 1935. Ian followed close on the heels of Hurricane Fiona, which inflicted enormous damage in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic and along the eastern coast of Canada. In the aftermath of these natural disasters, Knights of Columbus organized efforts to help with cleanup and distribution of essential supplies.
SUPREME CHAPLAIN VISITS POLAND AND UKRAINE
Archbishop William Lori met with Knights of Columbus, Church leaders and displaced families in Poland and Ukraine Oct. 1 4. During the visit, he helped distribute aid to refugees from the war in Ukraine and witnessed ongoing humanitarian efforts aided by the Order’s Ukraine Solidarity Fund including initiatives of the Greek and Latin rite Churches in Ukraine and an orphanage run by the Archdiocese of Częstochowa, Poland. ALBERTA KNIGHTS HELP RESTORE INDIGENOUS PARISH CHURCH
In the 1990s, the Archdiocese of Edmonton designated Sacred Heart Church of the First Peoples as a national parish for First Nation, Inuit and Métis Catholics in Canada. Parishioners at Sacred Heart were heartbroken when an accidental fire broke out in the church in August 2020, resulting in $9 million in repairs and renovation work. Wally Streit, past state deputy of Alberta, stepped up and led local Knights of Columbus and others in efforts to raise the money needed to restore the church. On July 25, 2022, Pope Francis visited the newly restored Sacred Heart Church during his pilgrimage to Canada. (More)
STATE OFFICER REPORT
This Gospel from Luke reminds us that while God is willing to answer the door when we knock, we must be willing to demonstrate our faith in action just as the disciples did. Those who seek salvation in the Kingdom of Heaven must seek it on earth by doing as Jesus did.
What better opportunities do we have to be willing to put our faith into action than the work we do here with the Knights of Columbus. Day in-and-out, I hear stories from our councils of the good things that you all are doing. Whether it is working at a food kitchen, food drives, taking care of the poor, educating the children within the parishes, and so on. These activities, and I am sure there are hundreds more, gladden the heart. This is the charity that Jesus showed and we are called to do.
Things here in the Diocese of Cleveland and across the state are in full swing. Councils are running fundraisers, having growth drives, Exemplifications are becoming more common, and the charity that evangelizes is evident. Last Sunday is a great example as Council #14769 St. Martin of Tours, dedicated a monument outside of the parish to the unborn children. Please make sure that you share those great deeds that you are all doing with the state and to me here. I would love to share what we are doing with all of the councils in the diocese.
Growth in the diocese is continuing and I look forward to more hands to
help. Cleveland is current in first place (YEAH!).
However, there is heavy pressure coming from Cincinnati and Columbus. Keep up the good work.
Remember, that a Delta Church Drive is designed to make contact not necessarily get the Form 100 (although if they are so ready, go ahead and get it).
Measure Up Campaign is completed. If you submitted your grant forms to Chris Sarka, State Warden, your checks should be on their way back to you or you should have them by now. Thank you for all you do for those citizens with developmental disabilities.
There is still time for you to donate to the Matching Funds Campaign and support religious education here in the Cleveland Diocese. One the best moments as a state officer you get is to present, on your behalf, donations to the diocese. They are so grateful for the contributions and want nothing more than to help support the Knights. Please send your donations to me by November 15, 2022.
The Browns are playing not well but that should not stop our Football Crazr fundraiser. Your tickets are due NOW to PSD Gary Eckstein to participate in all 10 weeks. Tickets
will be accepted through December 31, 2022, but will NOT be retroactive to the start of the contest.
The Knights of Columbus and the Diocese of Cleveland are working to promote the Eucharistic Revival. Check out the information in this issue to where and how your council can participate. More info to come so stay tuned.
Hopefully, you are preparing for your free throw contests. The Knights of Columbus and the Cleveland Cavaliers are partnering to help promote youth participating in sports. We are working out the final details and hope to have something out in December so that you can include it at your council and district free throw contests.
Thank you for all that you are doing. If there is anything that you need from me or the diocesan staff, please feel free to contact us. Have a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving and Advent Season!

MOTHER TERESA: NO GREATER LOVE
Back by Popular Demand!
Twenty-five years have passed since the death of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, sparking a renewed interest in this spiritual giant of the 20th century. Filmed on 5 continents and featuring unprecedented access to both institutional archives and the apostolates of the Missionaries of Charity, this film reveals not just who Mother Teresa was, but how her singular vision to serve Christ in the poor continues to be realized through the Missionaries of Charity today. This is far more than a documentary. It is at once a soaring tribute to a spiritual icon, a powerful witness of authentic Christian charity, and a guidepost for all who seek hope in our turbulent times.
Visit the official website for more information (click HERE).
As announced at the Supreme Convention, the Knights of Columbus produced a feature length film about the life and legacy of Mother Teresa. Over 900 theaters across the nation will show Mother Teresa: No Greater Love on October 3 and 4. Made to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Mother Teresa’s passing, this documentary is a breathtaking account of this globally renowned and heroic humanitarian, as well as the work of her religious community.
We urge every Knight to attend a showing in their community and encourage fraternal leaders to organize a council or parish wide outing by purchasing group tickets (25 minimum), or even buying out the theater for your group.
Several promotional resources are available on Supreme email. Download and use these assets to help promote the movie to your council members and in your parish and community.

HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS
The Ohio Charity Foundation, Inc. is pleased to announce that, for the 2022 2023 school year, numerous $1,000 scholarships will once again be made available for Ohio Catholic students (grades nine through twelve) attending Catholic High Schools in Ohio. This is the twenty sixth consecutive year that the Knights of Columbus Scholarships have been awarded to our outstanding Catholic High School students. More than $839,475 has been awarded during that period.
The requirements that will be considered for this scholarship are the student’s and families financial need, a Grade Point Average of 2.5 or higher, academic awards, community and/or parish involvement, and extracurricular activities. Preference may be given to students who are sons or daughters of a Knight of Columbus member in good standing; or a son or daughter of a deceased member. We have a particular desire to help students, who may be considering a religious vocation, stay in a Catholic High School to foster and encourage that calling. No more than one Foundation scholarship per Catholic High School will be awarded. Scholarships from other donations and private sources may also be made available.
Did a deserving student in your high school receive one? Please encourage every student who fits the qualifications to apply for the Knights of Columbus Scholarship. Visit www.ohiocharityfoundation.org/ scholarships/ for more information and an application.

EUCHARISTIC REVIVAL
“What the world needs is God’s love; it needs to encounter Christ and to believe in him. The Eucharist is thus the source and summit not only of the Church's life, but also of her mission.”- Sacramentum Caritatis, #84
Over the next three years, every Catholic diocese, parish, school, apostolate, and family is invited to be a part of renewing the Church by enkindling a living relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist.
• Year of Diocesan Revival (June 19, 2022 July 11, 2023). This first year of the Revival invites diocesan staff, bishops, and priests to respond to the Lord’s personal invitation and equips them to share this love with the faithful through Eucharistic congresses and events.
• Year of Parish Revival (June 11, 2023 - July 17, 2024). The second phase will foster Eucharistic devotion at the parish level, strengthening our liturgical life through faithful celebration of the Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, missions, resources, preaching, and organic movements of the Holy Spirit.
• National Eucharistic Congress (July 17 - 21, 2024). At this historic event, more than 80,000 Catholics of all ages will gather in Indianapolis to reconsecrate their hearts to the source and summit of our faith.
The general vision of the Eucharistic Revival is to:
• Foster encounters with Jesus through kerygmatic proclamation and experiences of Eucharistic devotion.
• Contemplate and proclaim the doctrine of the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist through the Truth of our teaching, Beauty of our worship, and Goodness of a life of service.
• Empower grassroots creativity by partnering with movements, apostolates, parishes, and educational institutions.
• Reach the smallest unit: parish small groups and families.
• Embrace and learn from the various rich intercultural Eucharistic traditions.
• Train, send, and accompany more than 100,000 Eucharistic missionaries.
The Diocese of Cleveland the Knights of Columbus are working together to bring the Eucharistic Revival to our local parishes and diocese. Over the next couple of months, the plans for the 2023 Summer will be developed and announced. It is the hope and plans of the Diocese and the Knights to be able to share in this experience. Greg Coogan, brother Knight from St. Hilary Council #14551, and Jim Maslach, State Advocate, will be communicating anything that is going on with this revival.
We need your help to promote the Eucharistic Revival. If your parish and/or council is participating in any activities, please let us know so that we can support you and provide exposure to others in the area. Contact Jim Maslach with any information.
You can also visit the Diocese of Cleveland’s web page dedicated to the revival by visiting https://www.dioceseofcleveland.org/eucharistic revival/overview. Resources for your councils can be found on the state website (www.kofcohio.org) under ACTIVITES.
