WHAT YOU CAN DO
The Cause for Canonization of Blessed Father Michael J. McGivney is at a favorable stage at the Vatican and you can help him on his way to sainthood. Since he was declared a Venerable Servant of God in March 2008, and a miracle through his intercession has opened the way to beatification, we are near the final phase of the process. One more miracle is needed for him to be eligible for sainthood.
This is a long and complex process. But your part is simple and direct, and can be summed up in three words:
PRAY. REPORT. JOIN.
PRAY. Your prayers can take two forms: to and for. Pray to Father McGivney that he may intercede for you and others in times of need, especially in cases of serious illness. Pray for Father McGivney’s cause, that it may continue to move forward with favorable reports.
Knights of Columbus councils and families especially should engage in these prayers, but anyone who is devoted to Father McGivney can and
should pray for his intercession and canonization.
Remember that prayers to and for Father McGivney are really prayers asking God to act through and on behalf of the Blessed Servant of God.
REPORT. After asking Father McGivney to intercede for a particular intention, it is important to report any favors received to let the Guild know if the prayer has been answered. You are encouraged to report any and every favor, big or small, so we can appreciate better the spiritual activity of the Blessed Servant of God. Medical and physical healings are especially important to report since they are most likely to be judged miraculous under strict Vatican guidelines.
It is easy to report favors through a form on this website. You may also report favors by email (guild@kofc.org) or by regular U.S. mail to the address below.
JOIN. Step 3 is to join the Father McGivney Guild. Membership is free and you receive many benefits,
God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Blessed Michael McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue, may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church.
Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify Blessed Michael McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request).
Through Christ our Lord. Amen

A Call to Holiness
Most importantly, the cause of Father McGivney is not simply about him being declared a saint. It is an opportunity for each one of us to seek his intercession and draw closer to God.
As the Second Vatican Council made clear with its universal call to holiness, we are all called to be saints. Father McGivney’s cause, in particular, is a summons to laypeople to embrace the mystery of Christ in its fullness so each of us will see that we are called to heroic virtue. Through the prayers and example of Father McGivney, we can come closer to loving God with our whole heart and our neighbor as ourselves.

HIS VISION, YOUR MISSION
You can play a key role in advancing Father McGivney’s cause by joining the Guild for free and praying for his intercession and canonization. May Father McGivney intercede for you! The Guild publishes a quarterly newsletter and offers a weekly Mass for the intentions of members.

KNIGHTS SUPPORT UKRAINIAN ORPHANS DISPLACED BY WAR
Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine last February, more than 100 children from the cities of Myrne and Melitopol were relocated to a retreat center outside Częstochowa, Poland. With financial assistance from the Knights of Columbus, the local branch of the international charitable organization Caritas now operates the center as an orphanage, offering love, safety and stability to refugee children who have lost everything. Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly visited the home and spent time with the children there during Holy Week of 2022. (MORE)

STATE OFFICER REPORT
Happy New Year! Yes, believe it or not, the new church year is upon us as we enter into the season of Advent. I always loved Advent starting with the readings from the Old Testament foreshadowing the coming of the Messiah and all the way up till Christmas Eve as the infant Jesus comes into the world. Advent is that time to prayer, penance, and sacrifice.
Councils in the diocese are starting to get active again. It has been a long road to come out of COVID and despite that fact, there is still a long way to go. There is chatter about closing or merging councils just because no one was active for two years. I will say there is a handful of councils that remained active throughout COVID and those councils are thriving today. We will work with you to get your council active again before we talk about closures or mergers. So, if that conversation is coming up, talk with your District Deputy or myself. There are a lot of things that we can do before we take first.
I want all of you to rest assured that your Supreme awards are safe with me now. Yes, Supreme shipped all of the awards to the Columbus Marriott Airport in October instead of shipping them to the District Deputies. The state officers separated them all out and we will distribute them. One of the things that I would like to do is make sure recognition is given when properly earned. With that, all of the Supreme Awards Columbian, Founders, Fr. McGivney and Star Council will be given out at the Super Cash Roadshow distribution locations on February 11, 2023. The locations are still being determined but we will again have a location on the east, west, and south sides of the diocese. The scenario is the
same small lunch (KofC tube steaks, chips, and beverage), meeting, tickets, home. Lunch can start at 1PM with the Super Cash Roadshow starting at 2PM. Tickets will not be distributed till the end of the meeting. The number of tickets available will be determined based on the amount given last year and sold. If your council is interested in hosting, please contact me as soon as possible.
It is not too early to make sure that your Free Throw Contest is ready to go. There will be a Diocesan Tournament on March 5, 2023 and the State Championship on March 18, 2023. Be on the lookout for an announce via email of announcing a partnership between the Ohio State Council and the Cleveland Cavaliers. We are hoping to have a Knight Out with the Cavs toward the end of March 2023.
You will start to notice more and more discussion concerning the Eucharistic Revival that is currently under way. Greg Coogan from St. Hilary Council and myself will be putting together items for you to watch out for here in the Navigator. If your council and/or assembly are hosting or participating in Eucharistic events, please let us know. We would be glad to join you!
I want to thank all of the councils, assemblies, and the chapter for their participating in state sponsored Measure Up, Matching Funds, and Support Our
Seminarians programs. Measure Up and Matching Funds programs are closed and the final reports will be distributed via email and posted on the state website soon. I will have the honor to distribute to the six diocesan representatives the checks from all of your donations this January at the State Mid Year Meeting. I cannot say enough because as you will see soon the donations were up this year and very close the goal that I set back during the July tour!
Finally, as we prepare our hearts for the coming of Jesus, the diocese is posting on social media “What the Eucharist means to you?” comments from various pastors and priests. I ask you to personally ponder this questions and to dig deep into your hearts what the Eucharist means to you. For me, it is everything my source of hope, love, inspiration, drive, compassion it is Jesus coming to me, for me, and in me.
From my family Kathy, Kristen, and Robert, to all of you and your families, we wish you a very happy and blessed Advent and Christmas Season.
Vivat Jesus! God Bless!
Jim

On the next page,, lists the councils and what reports Supreme is still missing. If you submitted those reports AND have a confirmation message from Supreme (if submitted via email), PLEASE DO NOT SEND AGAIN.

Merry Christmas! To all my brothers and their families, I extend my very best wishes for a merry and a blessed Christmas. As we are celebrating the Christmas season, we give thanks that God sent his Only Begotten Son to live among us and save us! That gift from the Father sets the stage for our giving gifts at Christmas. It seems we say it every year: “It’s Christmas; where did the year go?” Seems like a good time to look back on the year and note all the gifts given by you and our members worldwide. As Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly mentioned in his annual report this year in Nashville, Tennessee, we have much to be thankful for and much more work ahead of us. Consider these gifts that SK Kelly mentioned. The Order gave more that $154 million and more than 48 million hours of volunteer service. But those are the big totals. Look at these specifics: we gave the gift of warmth to more than 150,000 children through the Coats for Kids campaign. We gave 8,891 physically challenged individuals the gift of mobility this year through our wheelchair program. We raised more than $19 million for Ukraine support and gave those families the gift of respite at Mercy Centers and Easter packages. RSVP gave the gift of financial support to nearly 5,900 seminarians or postulants. And we had more than 450,000 members give the gift of life through donating blood. These are gifts that change lives. Real people, real individuals benefited from these gifts. As I consider Christmas I think of the gift of support and encouragement that you have given me. I appreciate the opportunity to work with you and your families this past year and I look forward to a new year and renewing connections with you. Again, a very Merry and Blessed Christmas! Vivat Jesus!

EUCHARISTIC REVIVAL
On June 19, 2022, the Catholic Church in the United States launched a very exciting National Eucharistic Revival. The Diocese of Cleveland is joyfully participating in this three year process. Diocesan Convocations, retreats and webinars are taking place for bishops, priests, diocesan, parish and school staff as they open their hearts to the Holy Spirit’s action during the first Year of Diocesan Revival. Beginning on Thanksgiving Day the Diocesan Eucharistic Revival team will be posting video testimonies from our priests answering the question, “What does the Eucharist mean to me?” A new video will be posted daily through Christmas. Use the hashtag #EucharistCLE to find or share videos on social media. The Diocese will be also featuring a billboard campaign highlighting quotes from the Bible and the saints about the Eucharist in all eight counties of the Diocese.
Beginning in June of 2023 is the Year of the Parish Revival. Parishes and schools across the country and Northeast Ohio have already begun some exceptional grassroots initiatives to foster a deeper Eucharistic devotion in their parishes. The Knights of Columbus are a national partner for the Revival and we encourage every Council and Assembly to support initiatives in your parishes and within your council.
Here are a few things that you can do:
Visit the National Eucharistic Revival website https://www.eucharisticrevival.org/ Visit the Diocese of Cleveland’s Revival Website: https://www.dioceseofcleveland.org/eucharistic revival/overview
Talk to your pastor to see what ways the Knights can assist, sponsor and support parish initiatives that could include adult faith formation, holy hours, and faith sharing on the Eucharist for all parishioners. Could your council offer to pray for and with all those preparing to receive First Holy Communion this year?
Participate in the Holy Mass, Eucharistic Adoration and possibly a parish Eucharistic Procession
Learn more about the Eucharist. Visit the Knights of Columbus’ website for resources: https://www.kofc.org/en/who we are/our faith/eucharist.html
Most importantly tell your story. Answer the question, “What does the Eucharist mean to me?” and share your in your family, at work, at a Council meeting or with friends.
In 2024, there will be National Eucharistic Revival held in Indianapolis with over 80,000 Catholics. The Diocese of Cleveland hopes to have a good representation. Stay tuned for more exciting opportunities in the diocese and our parishes.
Please share the good news of your Council’s activity with the Diocesan Eucharistic Revival Team. You may email me at Gregory Coogan, gcoogan@dioceseofcleveland.org.

Many of you have probably never heard of the Affiliate Member Initiative. It’s an opportunity to transfer the “dead wood” from your roster. Supreme is allowing us to cleanse our ranks for one month only January 2023. Councils have the opportunity to remove members from their rosters who have been missing in ac on for some me. This is not a suspension or a withdrawal. The men you transfer to the affiliate program are s ll Knights of Columbus, they are just not members of your council anymore. These transfers will not affect your progress towards reaching your Supreme Growth quota. The men you transfer to the program will now be “managed” by Supreme. You will no longer pay per capita for them once they are transferred (January only).
Training will be available from the State Council on the following dates listed above.
These training sessions are listed on the state calendar accessible via the state website (www.kofcohio.org) and the Training Opportunities page under FOR MEMBERS. KNIGHTS IN ACTION
Brothers,
Thought you might be interested in reading about the Ohio PTA very supportive "Position Statement" on seat belts in school buses that we addressed in July,2022. The Ohio PTA Board has recently released their authoritative and extensive Position Statement on the “Support of Seat Belts in School Buses” (See Below) and joined the National PTA** that has long supported (1998) seat belts in school buses for all school districts. The Ohio PTA recommends that school districts initiate lap shoulder seat belt installation pilot programs and this direct action by the Ohio PTA will undoubtedly be a turning point for school bus safety in Ohio, serve as a model for enhanced school bus safety in other States and will prevent injuries and save children's lives. An example of a multi vehicle school bus accident recently occurred in Avon Lake that could have been catastrophic. Also the need for seat belts to protect children on school buses even received recognition by Judge Jeanine Pirro on the October 27th edition of “The Five Show”.
I'm hoping to alert school districts to the risk their students and staff have without seat belts and "encourage" them, consistent with the Ohio PTA recommendation, to conduct pilot programs installing seat belts in their new buses. Please let me know if you have any questions and/or comments.
Ohio PTA Review Summary
In their widely disseminated (OH Governor, State Legislators, Educational and State Agency Officials), detailed and supportive review, the Ohio PTA indicates:
1. Three Ohio school districts (Hudson, Avon Lake & Beachwood) have already purchased school buses with seat belts to protect their children;
2. A chronological accounting of the US “seat belts in school buses” issue;
3. The long standing recommendations of federal agencies (NTSB & NHTSA) and other organizations on seat belts;
4. The demonstrated effectiveness of seat belts for safety and behavior improvement;
5. The regulations requiring seat belts in school buses in nine states, many cities and numerous school districts;
6. Statistics on children’s deaths and injuries in the US as well as yearly Ohio school bus accident incidence data and the inadequacy of current school bus safety measures;
7. In the US, seat belts are required in cars (1968), small school buses (2011), commercial motor coaches (2019) and for Ohio school bus drivers (1986);
8. Low cost for the addition of seat belts to school buses (0.5% of total yearly student transportation cost);
9. Increased risk for school districts without seat belts in their school buses of unlimited compensatory damage awards for school bus related deaths and injuries.

Council #14111: WOW!
A Really Successful Event!
October 15th marked our first Trunk r Treat/Chili/Tailgate/Octoberfest event! Whatever you want to call it, it was a spooktacular success!! “Thank you” Jeff Fry and Phil Scozarro for coming up with this idea and following it through to completion. And, of course, a big THANKS to the council members and wives who dove in to make this a memorable evening. We know you all were tired when you went home but, hopefully, happy that you helped pull off this wonderful event. We even managed to recruit a new member! Bob Covington was voted into the council at the November meeting and the exemplification video will be scheduled soon.
The Trunk r Treat portion worked well. Thank you, Mike Breiding and John Brooks, for parking help.
Inside, the food service worked remarkably well considering we had a HUGE crowd. (a few people forgot to pre register at the Masses!!) The menu of Hot Dogs, BBQ Pork sandwiches, Whitey’s chili and accompaniments was praised by many. We managed to feed the multitude! If you weren’t here, you missed something really special!
Look for this event to happen again!
