Brother Knights of the Cincinnati Archdiocese,
To say we are living in unprecedented times is very much an understatement. We have definitely been thrown one heck of a curve ball. As I’ve said in the past, from January 1st until the end of May is the busiest time of our fraternal year. This is when we seem to be most active in our churches and communities. So what can we do? One thing is for sure, the brother Knights here in Ohio, and especially in the Archdiocese are extremely creative and agile.
We always talk about reaching out to our brother Knights, and in particular the ones who we don’t see as much. This is the time to make those phone calls to see if they are doing well in light of current circumstances or to see if they need anything. Care packages left on the front step is still an option. You could even drop a card in the mail letting them know you’re thinking of them. And let us not forget our council widows. They may need our support now more than ever.
Continue to reach out to the members vial social media, and email. Utilize services such as Constant Contact, Flock Note, Dial my Calls, WhatsApp, GroupMe or the good old calling tree. Keep your brother Knights engaged. They may have great ideas on what we can do to serve one another and our communities within the recommended restrictions on gatherings we find ourselves in.
Hold meetings via video chat services like Google Hangouts, Skype, GoToMeeting, Zoom, or WebEx. Use Google Forms, Survey monkey, or Doodle for remote voting. And don’t forget to submit anything your council has been able to do such as helping father with broadcasting Mass, or hosting an online Novena, or attending the Cincinnati “virtual” Men’s Conference to the state program.
Let’s reach out to partners for Super Cash Bonanza. There is still the option of mailing tickets, and your partners can do that too! Remember the first turn in has been moved out to April 24th, and with the virtual State Convention it is vital to have your tickets to our State Treasurer Jeff Kiliany by May 8th since they cannot be delivered at the last minute at the convention. Jeff’s contact information can be found on the last page of The Arch. The drawing will be held on the date indicated on the tickets and broadcast live.
Before the current circumstances our State Deputy and State Membership Director designated April as eMembership month to compliment the March Church Drive. In our current circumstances this has now become an invaluable tool - even for councils. You can find more information on this initiative in the “Growth” section of this month’s issue.
Finally, we are currently working with Supreme on best practices and technology to hold our virtual convention including caucus voting, etc. Unfortunately there is not solution for a virtual hospitality room which wouldn't be much fun, so we’re all on our own for that one. Things are changing day by day so continue to watch your email for the latest updates.
These are trying times and never in my life have I felt the connection with Jesus’ forty days in the desert as I have this Lent. Please keep your brother Knights in your prayers as well as our priests. This isolation has hit many of them very hard. May God bless you, your families, and our councils.
Fraternally yours,
Michael J. Felerski

Growth THE MARCH CHURCH DRIVE – FEAR NOT!
Dan Warnock, Archdiocese of Cincinnati Membership Director (South)
It is a bit disconcerting the times we currently live in. Lots of confusion, uncertainty, panic and fear. In the worse case scenario the loss of a loved one due to the virus would be unbearable. President Trump, Governor DeWine and the 24/7 news agency are inundating our daily lives reporting new steps we should all take to help flat line this dark disease they call Covid-19.
It can be very distracting as we try to carry on in our daily lives with practicing our faith, staying in contact with friends and family and the constant worry for those”essential” labeled workers. In my personal situation with the post office I received my official “essential worker” letter. Our nations people are heavily dependent on receiving their medicine through the mail and so much more. So we carry on, ‘Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night…..’ Right!
I depict this postal motto “essential workers” comparison to what we do as Knights of Columbus as we too must continue on. Obviously our March Church Drive has taken a shot to the gut but this is no reason why we shouldn’t reload, roll up our sleeves and get back to work once the smoke clears. Now is the time to come up with a plan for our future membership growth efforts.
Every council is unique in their own way knowing what works best for them as they will continue to bring in new members, the life line of our councils. We need to be vigilant while keeping our eyes and ears open but most importantly be pro active by simply asking other Catholic gentlemen if they would like to join our ranks.
These gentlemen, once they see how active their parish or local council is with their many hands-on activities will be more encouraged to join. When they see their catholic brothers working food pantries, supporting our Pregnancy Centers and seminarians, Coffee and Donuts after Mass, our Faith in Action Programs! Witnessing men working together in Gods love, serving others is strong medicine. Men with ‘the right stuff’ would naturally be drawn to such an order.
Obviously our March Church Drive has taken a shot to the gut but this is no reason why we shouldn’t reload, roll up our sleeves and get back to work once the smoke clears.
My home council recently signed on a E-Membership candidate. A local gentleman who has three young children. He and his wife are devout Catholics. He has expressed interest in being an active member especially with our Culture of Life Programs. He also mentioned he has a family member and a few other friends that he feels strongly will want to join our ranks.
That said, some times you don’t have to beat the bushes too exhaustion. Some times you just let it come to you. I recall coaches saying “Don’t think, but react. Let the game come to you”! Our coach is God. He is leading good men our way so they can better practice their faith, build stronger loving families at home and in their community through the assistance of the Knights of Columbus. Yes! Make your council look attractive to the younger generations through your personal passion and good works as a knight. Trust me, you won’t go unnoticed.
The Times They Are a Changing’ as Bobby Dylan wrote. That is a God given fact. They always have and always will. We will get through this pandemic. All in due time. Our councils will prevail. We will come out swinging and show our parishes that the Knights of Columbus is alive and well. Through Gods love and strength we will continue to serve others. Mary, Mother of God, be with us and guide us we pray. When the angel Gabriel came to you you showed great courage when saying “I am the Lords servant…may your word to me be fulfilled” (Luke 1:38) So shell we answer the call.
Be safe my brothers. God Bless.
Vivat Jesus!

Brother Knights, The Ohio State Council is excited to announce our recruitment program for April 2020: Fear Not. The State Council is launching a series of social media ads, videos, and announcements focusing on eMembership (joining online) for the month of April. This eBlitz will include a $15 discount code: OHKOFC for men joining online (kofc.org/JoinUs). When a new eMember “transfers” into your council you will get:
• +1 new member credit for your council (even though he has an official membership number which is listed on the Form 100 for his “transfer-in” to your council).
• A +1 credit toward your insurance goal for the fraternal year if this new eMember has insurance through our Order!
• Credit towards his dues for the council from Supreme. We are also rolling out an updated online version of the new Exemplification of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity which your prospects or new eMembers can attend via a Zoom webinar presented by our own Ohio Knights. These will be available three times a week during April. The council will provide the information to the State Warden regarding the prospect/eMember and he will be asked to electronically sign an electronic Constitutional roll. He will then be sent a personal link with the date and time to view the Degree online. Watch your email, the state website, and Facebook page for updates. Fraternally,

Into the Breach Video Series
The Knights of Columbus has produced a 12-episode video series entitled Into the Breach, inspired by the Apostolic Exhortation for Catholic men written by Bishop Thomas Olmsted of the Diocese of Phoenix. This hardhitting new video series illustrates the gravity of our duty as men of Christ and offers an inspiring invitation to renew authentic masculinity.
[Enclosed] is the trailer and further information regarding the roll-out of the series https://bcove.video/3805i60. Much like the Everyday Heroes series, we will be making the videos available through social media and the Knights of Columbus website for everyone to see starting February 26 (Ash Wednesday).
There will be a national media campaign promoting the video series and all Knights of Columbus members are encouraged to view and engage with the videos.
This video series will be incorporated into the Faith in Action Faith program – Into the Breach – starting in the new fraternal year, July 2020.
My prayer is that this video series equips each of us individually, and all of us together as Knights, to step into the breach and play our part in the renewal of our families and our Church for the sake of the whole world.

Fraternal Benefits The mission of the Knights of Columbus today remains the same as when it was founded in 1882: to protect Catholic families financially and to help strengthen the Catholic faith of our members.
While the current medical, social and economic issues we face are unsettling, it’s not the first time we have risen to meet such challenges. Our Order has stood strong through past crises such as the Spanish flu in 1918, the Great Depression, two world wars, 1970’s Stagflation, and the financial crises 1987, 2001, and 2008.
Just as we stood together during those times, we stand ready in our own difficult times to provide financial security and peace of mind. Knights of Columbus Field Agents are fully equipped and eager to help you understand how the current climate may affect your personal finances and how our time-tested strategies can help.
Our agents can meet with you in person, talk to you over the phone (when appropriate) or through a virtual meeting using Skype or similar software. Agents are ready to answer questions, assist with service-related issues and help show you how you can reduce your financial risk. Below I have attached their direct contact information, and I encourage you to lean on them at this time for peace of mind. We are our brother’s keeper.
As the Knights of Columbus turns 138 years old this Sunday, it is an opportune moment to thank our founder, Father Michael McGivney, for his foresight in founding an Order that consistently provides reliable financial protection for Catholic families. You do not face the current challenges alone. Our commitment to helping you and your family is stronger than ever.
