The Dog Days of Summer Another State Tour is in the books and now we enter the “Dog Days of Summer”. I would like to thank Father Aufderheide Council for hosting this year’s tour stop for the Archdiocese. It went a little long but we normally don’t pass out the awards from the State Convention during the stop. Congratulations to all the councils who won awards. Thank you as well to all the councils not winning an award but working just as hard on your successful programs

This month there are several opportunities to sit in on the COUNCIL EXPERIENCE training webinar. Here is a quick synopsis of this one hour offering

By the time this reaches you the 2021 Measure Up Campaign will have concluded. If you have any questions about this year’s program feel free to reach out to State Advocate Jim Maslach. His contact information and others can be found on the last page of The Arch each month

Council Experience is being offered on the following dates & times

The 2021 Matching Funds Campaign will begin promptly at midnight on September 1st. So drop you checks in the mail on around the 29th-31st of this month to grab that “Match” from the Ohio Charity Foundation. The money received for Matching Funds comes back to the Archdiocese along with any match and is given to the Of ce of Evangelization whose director is Sean Ater. Sean is very appreciative of our donations in support of Catholic Education here in the Arch. We do make a difference

You can nd links to register on our website under FOR MEMBERS > TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES

It’s never too late to start planning for the October Blitz! Let’s hope that all this talk of the “Delta variant” doesn’t cause churches to be locked down again. The “delta” we do like is the Delta Church Drive. As of publication there are no speci c dates scheduled for Delta Church Drive training but keep checking the training page on the state website for updates: KofCOhio.org > FOR MEMBERS > TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES > SUPREME TRAINING. You can also contact our State Membership Director, Michael Freil for help as well if you want to get a head start on it

Why members join our Order, how to ensure we meet member’s needs. All Council Of cers, Financial Secretaries, Membership Directors and Online Membership Directors/Chairman or anyone interested may attend

Saturday August 14, 202 @ 10:00 A Wednesday August 18, 202 @ 7:00 P Wednesday August 25, 202 @ 7:00 P

Finally, August has become even more special for the Knights of Columbus. Traditionally it is our “Family” month where we host and promote our family programs. It is also the month of our founder Blessed Michael McGivney’s birth and day of his passing, August 12th and 14th respectively. And now August contains the feast day of our founder on the 13th. Our founder’s beati cation last year and feast day on Aug. 13, 2021, are certainly causes of celebration for our Order I see the Dog Days of Summer as the start of hitting the ground running to do those things we do as Knights to help our communities, parishes, and our families throughout this new fraternal year in spite of adversity. Together let’s make it a great fraternal year Vivat Jesus Michael Felersk State Treasurer

Growth

Recruiting a New Member into the Order is one of the most important and noteworthy accomplishment that Any Knight can achieve. New members keep our organization and your Councils vibrant and ensure our success in the years ahead.

When a Proposer recruits a New Member, he will receive 500 VIP Points from Supreme headquarters to use at Knights Gear. A collection of these points can earn you some nice gift items that are in the catalog at www.knightsgear.com.

Important things to remember for Membership in Fraternal year 2021-2022 NO SUSPENSIONS or WITHDRAWALS will be allowed after OCTOBER 01, 2021

Each Council must have a Retention Committee listed on their Form 185, or no suspensions or withdrawals will happen.

Each Council has the same Membership Quotas that you had prior to the Covid19 reduction in 2020

McGivney 2020 is still in e ect until December 31, 2021, which means free membership for 1 year for your new member candidate

Each of your new membership candidates should register as a new member via the online kofc.org join me tab. It takes only 35-45 seconds to join via computer, tablet, or cell phone

Once the candidate is signed up, he will automatically become an e-member, and will be issued a membership number and e-member card from Supreme. He is a member, however, he will not have voting rights until he attends the exempli cations of Charity Unity & Fraternity.

For the next few months, the Ohio State Council is holding virtual online exempli cations every Wednesday evening 7pm. To register prior to the 7pm meeting, have your candidate register at:

https://kofcohio.org/exempli cation-registration/

Just about every month throughout the Fraternal year, there will be some great $$ Incentives for your Council, the Proposer, the District Deputy, and occasionally the new Member that has taken his exempli cations. The Incentives will be emailed out the First of Each Month. Keep looking for them, as each month will have a di erent theme. This is a good way for your Council to earn some $$ as you recruit new Members.

The Archdiocese has been blessed with a Great Membership Team to help you and your Councils out. These men were selected by me and the State Deputy, as they have the experience and knowledge to help the Membership grow in the Arch. Rich Bischo is in the South, Vic Lauterbach is in Central (Dayton) and Dan Tebbe is in the North. Dan Warnock is the Retention-New Council Development for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, Toledo and Columbus. If you need assistance in any of these areas, please do not hesitate to contact them and they will gladly help you.

The Archdiocese had a great year in Fraternal year 2020-2021. In the State standings, the Arch nished 2nd out of the Six Dioceses. Steubenville Diocese nished 1st. Two or Three of our Arch Councils actually make up the Membership population of Steubenville. So in all actually, you might say that we could have nished First. However, that is what we will do this Fraternal Year. Being 2nd means that we try harder!!

IF YOU DO NOT ASK MEN TO JOIN, THEY WILL NOT. Ask men of your Parishes to JOIN US. have them ll out the brief form.

Have them go to kofc.org, click on the JOIN US gold banner and

Good Luck, I am hoping that every Council in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati becomes STAR Council.

Fraternal Benefits

Here it is August already…and the summer is more than halfway over. I hope that you are enjoying some rest and relaxation!

I can't seem to pick up anything to read, whether it's a newspaper, some type of news feed on my computer, or a periodical, without nding articles about retirement. With so many baby boomers getting to that age I guess I should expect it. Articles tell me how to boost my retirement, how to save for retirement, how to use certain plans to have a successful retirement. Some of these articles talk about maximizing the money that I've saved, some talk about maximizing my government bene ts, some talk about how I can lower my taxes in retirement. Some articles talk about retirement without even retiring, they say keep on working or take on a new job in the gig economy. Frankly, that doesn't seem like much of a retirement to me.

When I retire I want to do some of those things I’ve put o over my working years: spend more time with family, travel, get immersed in my hobbies…those kinds of things. I’ve begun a bucket list to keep track of all the things I’d like to do when I retire.

Here are a few of my thoughts about retirement:

1. I want to retire “to” something, not “from” something. Many believe that the rocking chair on the front porch kills retirees. Retirement means having something di erent to engage in, not simply sitting around and doing nothing.

2. “Begin with the end in sight.” One of the seven habits of successful people as espoused by Stephen Covey. What do you want your retirement to look like? What do you want to do, where do you want to go, how do you want to continue to contribute to your church, your council, and your community?

3. Have goals and have a plan. If you begin with the end in sight, now you have to make a plan on how you want to get there. Write it down, make it happen, the book by Henriette Klauser might be helpful. A goal without a plan to get there is just a dream.

We've talked to several members and their spouses lately and retirement always comes up as a topic of conversation when we review their current situation. It doesn't seem to matter their age. We've had members as young as 35 and as old as 70 over the past couple of months want to talk about retirement and making sure that they're set at some point in the future. Let’s face it, the 35 year old has a lot more time to plan. Time is an ally for him. As changes occur in the economy, he has time to make course corrections. He has time to contribute more to meet the family’s income goals, he’ll probably earn more as he progresses in his career. For the older member, time is no friend. Less time to earn income, less time to cope with the vagaries of the economy, and topped out in earning power. The closer one gets to the planned retirement age, the more important that a strategy be in place.

That’s where we can help. Our new nancial needs analysis tool allows us to plug in your personal information and let you see where you stand. Are you accumulating enough funds to meet your retirement income goal? Are there ways to make sure you’ll never run out of money in retirement? Is your money safe and secure, not following the whims of the market?

Let’s get together and make sure you have a strategy to put you in the winner’s circle.

Vivat Jesus!
