Supreme COVID Recovery Guide Booklet

Advent, a very special Anticipation

If you have not heard, the Supreme Council has published a booklet called the “COVID Recovery Program”. This 20 page guide contains not only steps but also ideas for helping councils resume operations post pandemic. It can also be used to help refresh a council. From the Overview

If you’re like me you’ve purchased a lot of items online recently which were shipped directly to your home. As you waited for your item’s arrival you might have checked for an email, used a website or an app to track it. Sometimes the delivery would have an “unexpected delay” or “updated delivery” date. But each day we waited and watched and got more excited with the anticipation of it’s arrival

The CRP focuses on resuming operations in a way that inspires members and parishioners to become re-involved with church and COVID Recovery Program community activities. The CRP has three key elements: parish support, interactions between state and local councils, and fraternal engagement The booklet’s appendix includes helpful procedures on Meeting with your Pastor, Meeting with your State Council Representative, and how to Engage council members in recovery activities and fraternal events, plus sample program ideas If you did not receive a copy you can nd the PDF version of the COVID Recovery Program by going to kofc.org and using the search box in the upper right corner and simply enter: COVID Recovery Program or enter the following URL in your browser

Once it arrived we opened the box and maybe held it in our hand, looked it over or even tried it on (like that cool new jacket). For me, more times than not I was somewhat disappointed. All of the anticipation led to big expectations which then ended up with a bit of a let down Advent is also a time of great anticipation. The American Heritage dictionary’s rst de nition of the word advent is: The coming or arrival of something or someone that is important or worthy of note. But the big difference between that jacket, pair of boots or electronic gadget we ordered is that we know exactly what the gift is we will receive at the end of Advent: Our Savior, Jesus Christ, the greatest gift ever given to mankind. There was not, is not, nor ever will be any disappointment with this very special delivery May God bless you and your family with a joyous Christmas, New Year, and good health throughout 2022 Michael and Heather Felerski

Beacons of Light and the Knights of Columbus by Edward Ponder, VSM As the Archdiocese of Cincinnati implements the Beacons of Light Program councils will face some unique challenges. As parishes are joined together as families councils will nd themselves joined in with other councils in the same family. Here in Dayton one proposed family would have three very active councils in it. In another family two very active parishes. These groupings will present these councils with some new situations. It will be very important that the Grand Knights and District Deputies of these councils meet to talk about how to work together in this new environment. Then it will be important that the Grand Knights meet with the chosen pastor of the family to ask him how they can help him

There will be some growing pains with the changes the Beacons of Light will present. Like in all families there may be some squabbles which will happen. However we, Knights of Columbus, should not give our priests any headaches because of our inability to accept the decisions of our bishops and pastors. We must remember the promises we made in our ceremonials concerning our relationship with the clergy. Good Catholic men who are loyal to the church will help make the upcoming transition to the new way which our Archdiocese is organized less stressful for all those involved. We must be out front in our support of the program. Our priests need to know that they can count on us to help them during the reorganization.

We, Knights of Columbus, must always remember that our motto is in solidarity with our priests. This should be our guiding principal during the formation of the families. Our priests are going to be under some stress as they face the challenges of family life. They will need to know that the Knights of Columbus is there to support them in their vocation and ministry. We cannot be a source of issues such as “turf” con icts over recruiting areas. These potential problems can be worked out with the Grand Knights and District Deputies and not become a problem for the pastor

Edward Ponder is a Past Grand Knight, former DD, former Master of Ohio District 2 and is the current Vice Supreme Master for the Hennepin Provence Each month we will feature insight from a notable guest columnist from the Archdiocese on current issues facing our councils here in the Arch.

Visit of the Three Kings to the

Manger at Bethlehem

Faith in Action

Brother Knight of the Cincinnati Archdiocese,

Since 1939, Western & Southern, The Biedenharn Family and the Knights of Columbus Cincinnati Chapter have been responsible for the presentation of the Live Nativity Pageant at the Krohn Conservatory at Eden Park. Our desire is to keep this event going strong for a long time into the future. To help us accomplish that goal we invite you and your families to attend and we are also are asking councils to publicize this public event during the month of December.

Below is a sample announcement to promote our pageant:

On Sunday, January 2nd at 1:00 p.m. there will be a live presentation of the Visit of the Three Kings to the Manger at Bethlehem. This pageant was started by Western & Southern, The Biedenharn Family and the Cincinnati Chapter of the Knights of Columbus in 1939. This year is the 82nd anniversary of this event. A local Catholic High School Choir will perform Christmas Songs before, during, and after the play. We invite you and your families to visit this event. There is no charge and families will be allowed to take pictures with the Holy Family and the Three Kings after the performance.

Respectfully yours,

Ed Stadnik Ed Stadnik – Chairman

Growth

Brothers of the Archdiocese:

We are at the ½ of our 2021-2022 Fraternal Year. The Membership standings for the State of Ohio are as follows e ective 12/01/2021

We have 54,831 members in the State. Thus far we have an intake number of 550, which puts Ohio at 30.24% of our Goal of 1,850 New Members.

We need to increase our intake quite a bit in the next few months to meet our Goal.

There has been a back log at Supreme Membership in recording the Intake numbers of our New Knights. The back log is being caused by incomplete Form 100s being sent to Supreme Membership. DO NOT SEND ANY FORM 100 to Form100@kofcohio.com. That sends the form 100s directly to Supreme Membership and Me. When the form 100s are incomplete, they get put aside until the complete form 100s are entered. If the membership sta has time, they will try to go back and see if they can ll in the missing information. If they can’t, they reject it and return it to me. We are part of the problem causing the back log. Let’s do our part and ll the forms out properly.

The correct way of lling out the form 100 is lling in ALL of the Blanks on Section 1

Your Council number, Council town, MEMBERSHIP # Date read, Date elected, 1st Degree date.

If you have an eMember, they have already been issued a membership number.

Finish the form by lling out ALL of the blanks in Sections 2-5. Make sure the proposer name and membership number is lled out, as that is who generally gets the Monthly Membership Incentives., applicant signs, the F.S. signs as well as the Grand Knight. Then you send it in.

December Membership Incentives are as follows: First 5 Councils who sign up a New Member before December 24th will get $25.00 for each new member signed up.

The First 4 District Deputies who report a Net Gain of 10 New Members in their District Before Dec.24th will receive $150.00

Note: in Order for the Incentives to be awarded the New Members MUST have completed their exempli cations.

I want to wish you and your families a Blessed Christmas. May the Peace of the Season be with You and Your Families.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Council 11550 Measure Up Check Presentation by Dan Warnock For the second year in a row my council 11550 Saint Joseph of the Three Rivers obtained and accumulated the most funds by any council in the State of Ohio for the Measure Up Campaign held in 2021. This program was spearheaded by PGK Steve Rodenbeck with the council bringing in $8,500

The Three Rivers School District and Margaret B. Rost School are the two designated bene ciaries of our program. A check presentation arranged and coordinated by Don Larrick was held on October 27, 2021 at Three Rivers School. Checks in the amount of $3,400 were each presented to Megan Rivet, Director of Student Services of the Three Rivers School District, and to Duerk Zinn, Director at Margaret B. Rost School.

Representatives from our council included myself Dan Warnock, JoAnn Warnock, John Hughes, Steve Rodenbeck, Anna Rodenbeck and Don Larrick.

A tour was given of the school and Special Needs facilities after the

check presentation. These are photos from the event.

“At both the Margaret B. Rost School and the satellite program at Three Rivers Elementary School, the schoolage program provides individualized instruction to help children develop to his or her full potential. Our goal is to deliver quality programming so each student we support can live, work, learn and fully participate in his or her community. Student progress is reported quarterly with an annual review of each student’s individualized plan.”

Fraternal Benefits

Of Celebrations and Traditions What special celebrations we have in the month of December! Our Lady’s feast, the feast of the Immaculate Conception when we honor Mary as having been conceived without original sin. What an honor, too, for her mother, St. Anne, and father, St. Joachim, to have that blessing, literally the grandparents of our Lord!

Then we celebrate Christmas and the Word made esh who dwelled among us. “For a child is born to us, a son is given to us; upon his shoulder dominion rests. They name him Wonder-Counselor, God-Hero, FatherForever, Prince of Peace.” (Isa 9:5)

year it will mean a return to a houseful of relatives around your Christmas dinner table. I hope and pray that you and your family nd peace and joy during this season!

As we approach the end of the year I want to thank each of you for the trust you’ve placed in my team. We have been able to help so many brother Knights and their families with the services and products that the Order has available to protect Catholic families. We consider it an honor to be able to serve you as your Knights agents. One way we may be able to serve you better is to make sure you respond to the survey that was sent from the Supreme O ce recently.
