There’s A Lot Happening - This is a Year Like No Other

T

he second half of any normal fraternal year is always the busiest and this year is no exception, albeit a year like no other. With that being said, this month I’m going to go over the current state of events in Ohio:

can be found on the State website. Several bother Knights prefer a live in-person-degree and this can be done. As a matter of fact, when the new exemplification rolled out it was recommended that it be held in church. With most churches now configured for socially distanced Masses and everyone accustomed to that, a live Exemplification can easily be held with families sitting together. Just take precautions with the brother Knights who are the presenters of the Degree. Remember it can be delivered by memory or read directly from the script (make sure to practice). As always, check with your pastor – he might even have some suggestions.

Super Cash Bonanza ticket distributions will happen on Saturday, February 20. This is a DRIVE THRU pickup. Sorry but no road show this year or award presentations. Also, only one member of your council will need to stop by and sign for the tickets. In the north the distribution will again be at Marian Council and down south it will be at Saint Michael. Bot pickups will be from 3:00 PM to “This is also an Election Year. 4:00 PM. For the details, see It’s hard to believe two years page 3 in this issue.

E-Membership

By Dan Warnock As we all know the E-Membership has been our saving grace when it comes to bringing in new members during this pandemic season. It’s hard to believe it has been nearly a year now that we’ve been faced with this unsettling craziness. Considering our lack of church drives and social gatherings it makes me wonder where we would stand if we did not have the E-Membership process as one of our tools to recruit. That said, even with the E-Membership form 100’s being sent to our councils there is still some confusion about this process. And to be perfectly honest I’m even a bit confused at times. Supreme knows that the First Year Free Dues played as a huge spark plug for requiting back in December and in June-July. So now they continued this incentive till the end of the fraternal year, June 30th 2021, to which I applaud the folks in New Heaven. Just today Supreme sent out a memo stating: “Over the past few years, Online Membership has brought over 38,000 men into the Knights of Columbus. This fraternal year alone, nearly 70% of the men who have joined in the US and Canada have joined through online membership. As such, this is becoming the primary doorway for men into the Knights of Columbus and we need to make sure it’s welcoming and easy to enter.” Supreme is also making changes to the on-line eMembership process like Smoother Join Experience, Enhance Join a Council Feature, and Improved Access to Contact Info. But this is my favorite, educating these guys about the Knights of Columbus and what we’re all about, New Onboarding Program – New online members will now be enrolled in a 12 week email campaign to educate them on the Knights of Columbus, encourage participation in an Exemplification of Charity, Unity and Fraternity and recommend transferring to a local council. From Supreme Council to State Council we are still fine tuning this process while at the same time trying to hit curve balls and sliders coming in at high velocities. It’s an ever moving target. Thus the state officers continually tweak their process. What is their main goal? It is to assign these knights out there who joined the K of C via eMembership who have no home council a Home Council. The Arch - February 2021

Growth

Some E-Members specified the council they want to join when filling out the form on-line. Many don’t. That is when it is our job to find them a council and the only way to do that is by contacting these gentlemen and asking them if they would like to join their parish council, a council nearby or a council where they have acquaintances. If they tell us they want to remain as an e-member, okay, say so and we will stop contacting them. Starting now there will be a few changes to how we will do this: • Nick Gresko sends the e-member to the Diocesan Membership Director. The Diocesan Membership Director contacts that e-member within 48 to verify he wishes to join a council. • If yes, the Diocesan Membership Director forwards Nick's e-mail with the form 100 and the check list to the Grand Knight, Financial Secretary, council Membership Director, District Deputy, and State Officers, Stew Vetter and Nick Gresko.. • The council then has 14 days to contact that member and get them to a virtual or live degree. • Should the eMember decline, the Diocesan Membership Director goes into the prospect tab and rejects him. Again, I know there has been some confusion. This is still a rather new tool for us all. I’m glad we have it! I’m glad we have the on-line exemplification! Let's use it to the best of our ability in order to help our councils grow and and be active. STEW’S INCENTIVES MADRI GRAS 400 - Beads and Bucks You know this story. I'm giving away $20,000 in incentive cash! You read that right! TWENTY THOUSAND DOLLARS! All we have to do is hit 400 new members by Ash Wednesday (February 17) and your council will get $50 for every new member they recruit from Jan 1-Feb 17. Stay safe and stay well. Vivat Jesus!! Look and Listen for Ohio Knights in the Archdiocese Our traditional “March Blitz” may be a little different (again) this year, but for different reasons. To promote our eMembership program, look for our ad in the upcoming March issue of The Catholic Telegraph! The ad features the brother Knights who helped to distribute items after the Dayton tornadoes. It also promotes the MCGIVENY2020 promotional code for free dues the first year of membership for new members.

Make sure to tune into Sacred Heart Radio and listen carefully because if all goes well, the Western Ohio Agency is hoping to underwrite some of the programming you hear on the station starting in March. And remember that the Son Rise Morning show, produced here in Cincinnati, is now providing two hours of morning programming across the EWTN network!
