Brother Knights of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati,

Now that we are half way through the fraternal year things are about to kick into third gear! Coming up are the District Deputy Mid-year meeting, local and the national March for Life, Council and District Free Throws, Catholic high school scholarship check presentations, the 2020 Charity Ticket Road Show stops in Dayton (hosted by Marian council 3754) and Cincinnati (hosted by Saint Michael council 3382), the Regional and State Free Throw competitions as well as hosting our own Lenten Fish Fries and March Membership Blitzes!

Make sure to enter your programs/events using the new submission web page found at KofCOhio.org and clicking on:

For Members > Council Program Activities > Report Council Activity

Or the direct link is: https://kofc-ohio.web.app If you want to see a summary of your council’s activities click on the three bars in the upper left corner of the webpage and enter your council number.

THANK YOU brother Knights of the Arch for all the work you did to help the state surpass last year’s Measure Up and Matching Funds campaigns! State-wide we beat the 2018 Measure Up collections by nearly $2,375 and bested the 2018 Matching Funds by over $3,700!

And not to be out done, our councils here in the Arch donated the most total to the 2019 Matching Funds campaign with over $14,334 in support of religious education programs right here in the Archdiocese! As State Warden and then State Advocate in 2019 I had the honor of being chairman of both programs, and because of you they were both extremely successful. I truly hope this upward direction continues Arch Monthly Check List in the years to come because ultimately it’s really not about you or Jan 31 – Annual Survey of Fraternal Activity (Form #1728)

me, it’s about the people we help through our charitable work – the Knights of Columbus of the Feb 22 – Super Cash Bonanza Roadshow Ticket Distribution

Archdiocese truly put our Faith into Action every day.

So here’s looking forward to an AWESOME 2020! We are Many; We are One, and the Best is Yet to Come!

Fraternally yours,

Michael Felerski

Growth Be On The Lookout for E-Membership Form 100’s Dan Warnock, Archdiocese of Cincinnati Membership Director (South)

It seems our Knights of Columbus leaders in New Heaven continue to make changes in an effort to keep up with the ever changing times. First was the DVD 1st degree then altering of the fourth degree uniform. Next was the E-Membership and recently granting councils the use of debit and credit cards and lastly the 3-1 Ceremonial. Not necessarily in this order and not necessarily all welcomed changes. Be as it may, the E-Membership is having an impact on most councils throughout our fraternal order and it is here to stay.

We are seeing more frequently gentlemen logging online and taking advantage of this new method of joining the Knights of Columbus. Our goal is to see it through that these new members join their local council or another council that is a good fit for them. We want them to become a contributing and active member in the Knights of Columbus.

State Membership Director Stewart Vetter along with E-Membership Director and Past State Membership Director Nick Gresko have implemented a plan to help councils throughout the state of Ohio track and contact the new E Members. Our Worthy Directors have been emailing form 100’s of E-Membership members to local council Grand Knights and Financial Secretary’s. Should you received an email with attached form 100 containing the new members information they request your officers or Membership Director do their due diligence and follow up with a phone call inviting them to join your council and from there to also take their degrees. Remember, they have been assigned membership numbers and are currently card carrying members of the Knight of Columbus. Next step for them is to have a Home Council and making degrees.

While this is a contemporary approach to bringing new members into our councils we have encountered some push back by some of the E-Members when contacted. Maybe they want to be members of the K of C in name only? Could be they think it looks good on their resume` or are only interested in an insurance plan and not so interested in being an active member. Our hopes are they want to jump in with both feet and become active in our ranks!

Regardless their reason to become a Knight of Columbus it is important we contact these men and invite them to come to our business meetings or a social event. Make them feel welcome and included. Contact them via email showing your councils scheduled dates of when and where your meetings take place. (Email addresses are on the 100’s). Invite them to join in on the fun at your favorite social or your next fish fry. Send them a link to your webpage, Facebook page or add them to your newsletter mailing list. I feel confident these men joined because they want to be apart of an organization that has the better good of all in mind and that they would want to be apart of and participate in our many good works.

At the District Deputy Meetings in Columbus the weekend of January 10th thru 12th there will be more discussion and information to be shared on E-Membership so please stay tuned!

January marks the beginning of the the New Year but for us Knights of Columbus it designates the 2nd half of the 2019-‘20 fraternal year. The holidays are now behind us. I’m sure we all enjoyed some festive time with family and friends. Maybe a spiked eggnog or two along the way. But now is the time to refocus, roll up our sleeves and get back on the recruitment trail. March is only two months away so start now and gear up for your March Church Drive. Plan ahead, get permission from your pastor to set up a table, prepare your pamphlets with your councils latest contact information and be proactive with your recruitment efforts. And always remember to have some fun while you recruit. Kind words and a big smile go a long way! Lastly remember every social event or fish fry is a recruiting opportunity. Take advantage of such events by having your banner hanging high with form 100’s and pamphlets at an arms length!

My prayer for today is that the Knights of Columbus will continue to grow in strength and in number and that we may better focus on our faith in God through His Holy Church, and to assist the needy in our communities and parishes as our founder the Venerable Fr. Michael J McGivney would hope. I pray this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Vivat Jesus!

Memoriam Request Recently I received a request to publish a list of brother Knights who have passed away in The Arch. The reason for the request is that many times our brothers have moved and without looking at local newspapers we may not know this. Also, many Knights no longer receive their local newspapers.

In order to fulfill this request I would need to have this information emailed to me at: mfelerski@icloud.com

Fraternal Benefits Happy New Year! As we begin the new year it’s common to review the past year and look at what we’d like to accomplish in the new one. Already there’s been much advertising and talk about 2020 and the relation to our eyesight…how we’ll be able to see more clearly, look at the year with new vision, not be shortsighted.

Of course all this talk about the future brings us to the usual thinking about the new year…making resolutions. That is a good thing! All of us want to resolve to do those things that will lead to happier, healthier lives. Some of the most common resolutions are to lose weight, get in shape and exercise more. Others resolve to stop smoking. If you think about the spiritual, many new year’s resolutions concern having a more focused prayer life or receiving the sacraments more often.

Many of my friends think more about quality time…quality time spent with their family and friends; those that are most important in their lives.

As you think about family, one resolution I can help you keep is to update your Family Service Record and take stock of your financial goals. Are you where you want to be? Do you have a plan? With our professional approach using the Profiles+ Forecaster financial needs analysis you can see if there are any gaps in your coverage and how close you are to achieving your goals and aspirations.

Some members are not aware of all the products we have to offer: Life, long term care, disability income and retirement. These products can help protect your family in all the financial situations where you might find yourself. Life protects your loved ones financially if you are not here to help provide. The need for life insurance changes at different stages of a person’s life: Young and unmarried members and the man retiring next month each have life insurance needs, but the type and amount may vary widely. Our professional brother Field Agents can give you some advice on that. Disability income insurance provides a paycheck if you are sick or hurt and can’t work. If your company offers some, do you know how much, for how long and is it taxable? We can help sort that out. Long term care insurance protects those assets you’ve worked so hard all your life to accumulate. Don’t deplete all the family’s savings for a care event when the Knights can take on that risk. With all the concern about market volatility and the health of Social Security, our fixed rate annuities guarantee a minimum interest rate for life, the safety of conservative investment strategy and an income stream you cannot outlive.

What’s most important to you and your family? There is no cookie cutter answer. That’s why we meet with members and their spouses and first determine what issues are of most concern to you. From there we can help analyze where you are in relation to your goals and construct a plan to get you where you want to go. All done in the comfort of your home and at your convenience.

As your brother Knights, we have so much more responsibility than a simple financial advisor or stock broker. We’ll take a look at your dreams, goals and aspirations for 2020 and beyond. Resolve today to meet with your Field Agent and ensure that at the end of this new year, your financial picture will be seen with 2020 vision.

Effective Change Over Meetings Bridge Council Action

The very best football teams make “adjustments” to attain positive outcomes in the second half of the game. Councils are no different. Why keep doing things that aren’t working. Our Fraternal Mission staff will provide time-tested ways to help change the culture and achieve short term wins to help your council grow.

The most important thing to remember is that the council must serve its members, parish and diocese for it to be trusted and accepted. Listening to the needs of those you serve will inform how your council speaks about programs that enhance the mission of the parish. As in the Gospel, actions speak louder than words. This webcast will focus on:

Electing council officers each year is just the first step in forming a team. Appointment of key directors, chairmen, and committee members is especially important to council success. This webcast will provide an overview of:
