Brother Knights of the Cincinnati Archdiocese,

I have some exciting news, a great opportunity, and a request for help. Over the last few weeks I have been in contact with the station manager of Sacred Heart Radio (740 AM - 89.5 FM - 910 AM) and we have been asked if we would help “man” the phones on Thursday, March 19th (the Feast of Saint Joseph) during their March Pledge Drive.

The station is looking to promote this event which not only helps the station but also the Knights. Mr. Levitt also felt that this would be a great tie-in with the Feast of Saint Joseph and it will give us promotion time during the important morning and afternoon drive times when we would answer the phones.

The times we would be taking calls would be from 7:00 AM to 9:30 AM and then from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. During those times we would need four call takers, however, you would not need to work the entire shift as long as we have four brother Knights taking calls the entire time - the shift can be split up. We just need coverage. So if you are only able to work for an hour but can get a brother Knight to cover the other two, we will be good!

I need your help: If you would like to jump on this opportunity to help the station and promote growth and knowledge of our Order, please go to Sign Up Genius and sign up for a time slot:

https://www.signupgenius.com/go/508084EAEA82AAAFD0-sacred

If for some reason you are unable to use SignUpGenius or would prefer not to, please send me an email mfelerski@icloud.com and list what time(s) you would like to work and I will add it to the schedule.

Sacred Heart Radio is located at Our Lady of the Holy Spirit Center: 5440 Moeller Ave. Cincinnati, OH 45212.

Growth MAKE MARCH A MONTH OF MEMBERSHIP SUCCESS! It’s March again and time for our traditional March Membership Blitz! If you haven’t already scheduled a Membership Blitz, there is still time – but remember, gaining new members is a year-round activity! Never miss the opportunity to bring new Catholic men into our Order. It is up to each of us to share the gift of membership and the benefits of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity with our Catholic colleagues.

In my last column, I discussed some ways of “getting to Yes” and keeping new members once you were successful. These included: Stressing the BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP, developing a successful ONBOARDING PROGRAM, and the importance of STAYING IN TOUCH with those new members.

This month, I would like to talk about “TEAM” and “TOOLS”. There is a tired old adage that “There is no =I= in TEAM”. As quaint as old adages sound, there is truth in them. As I discussed in a prior column, one of the first steps to get a man to join is to ASK HIM. That’s the first step – but YOU and I are not alone in this mission to bring in new Knights. I want you to know that during your membership recruitment efforts that you are backed by TEAM supporting you – along with tools to ensure your success.

TEAM SUPPORT – You are not alone in your membership drive!

1. Your Pastor: Make sure that Father is on board. Hopefully, he is a Knight and supports your recruitment efforts through allowing you to recruit after mass, make pulpit announcements and distribute membership materials

2. Your Field Agent: Your field agent can help in your membership efforts by explaining some of the financial benefits of membership to a Knight – and perhaps more importantly – to his family. Many councils often forget to mention how members can avail themselves of these benefits

3. Your Membership Director: I have visited a number of councils and asked the question “WHO is your Membership Director?” Sometimes I’ve found that the council has a strong Membership Director in place – in other councils, I have found they are still seeking one. I urge each of you to appoint someone to be the Membership Director BUT – as I’ve told my councils – EACH OF YOU is a Membership Director. The man with the title is your coach and your mentor but each of you must ask a man to join!

4. Your Members: As I said above – we are ALL Membership Directors. The best recruiting is done by members that love the Order and share their experiences

5. Your Membership Support Team: This includes the Archdiocesan Membership Directors (myself, Tom, and Dan, as well as State Membership Director Stew Vetter); your District Deputy and District Deputy coordinator, and your State Advocate Mike Felerski. We are all here to help you in any way we can. Our contact information is below – USE US!

TOOLS – there are a number of tools available to help convey the value of membership. These include:

1. Websites: www.kofc.org and our state website www.kofcohio.org are excellent starting points for information both for potential members and for your to get ideas.

2. Membership materials: There are a number of membership materials available to share with potential members. I particularly recommend the “I am a Knight” prayer cards as an opening. If your council does not have them – contact me at michaeldthomas@aol.com. I have boxes full of them and my wife would like you to have some. Visibility: One of the best ways to get new members is simply by “…remember this new degree is not being VISIBLE. Make sure your council has an for YOU or ME, but for a different advertisement in the parish bulletin and wear K of C genera;on of men that seemingly clothing to Mass. Consider getting the K of C branded license plate. Have a Council brochure: Make sure don't have the ;me for three the parish and potential members know what you are ceremonies or interest in a secret doing. Publicity is a good thing. I’ve heard stories ceremony.” from Knights that were slow to join a Council because they said, “I didn’t know there WAS a Council”.

3. Open Houses and Fraternal Benefits Nights: Schedule events and invite the entire parish to learn about the Knights. This is where your Team can shine. Have seasoned members, young members, field agents, and wives talk about the value of membership!

4. New Exemplification of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity: Our new Degree is now open to the public! It can be your best recruiting tool as everyone can see and hear the history and the mission of the Knights of Columbus in less than an hour. I realize that some of you may not yet be comfortable with the new Degree. I understand – I was a Third Degree team member for years. I ask you to remember this new degree is not for YOU or ME, but for a different generation of men that seemingly don't have the time for three ceremonies or interest in a secret ceremony. This degree effectively distills the lessons of the Order in a compact presentation that can be shared with family and friends.

All of the Membership Team is available for your assistance. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us! And don’t be “that guy” that didn’t ask someone to join! Vivat Jesus!

This webcast will provide useful insight in performing the ceremony, and how it can be adapted it local needs.

The most important thing to remember is that the council must serve its members, parish and diocese for it to be trusted and accepted. Listening to the needs of those you serve will inform how your council speaks about programs that enhance the mission of the parish. As in the Gospel, actions speak louder than words. This webcast will focus on:

Electing council officers each year is just the first step in forming a team. Appointment of key directors, chairmen, and committee members is especially important to council success. This webcast will provide an overview of:

Fraternal Benefits March brings thoughts of spring. For some, it’s time to begin Daylight Savings Time; a little more sunlight into the evenings as the days become longer. For those in the north, it means looking forward to the thaw after winter. For some it is welcome relief after months of frigid temperatures, howling winds and heavy snow. Some in the south, who enjoy the milder winters, now realize again that after spring, a hot summer ensues.

Spring also brings thoughts of spring cleaning. After being cooped up all winter, it’s traditional in many households to do that deep cleaning all throughout the house. That means washing down walls and moving furniture to clean behind pieces that haven’t seen the light of day since last year’s cleaning. It means taking down and washing drapes and curtains; windows are washed inside and out. (Thank goodness for modern tilt windows that mean no time outside in the chillier weather.) This is a time when the whole family is expected to pitch in and my “Honey Do” list gets longer and longer. (Personally, I’m the window washing guy.) In days gone by when most everyone had a coal fired furnace, a winter of closed windows meant the walls needed a good washing. With gas, electric and hot water boilers there’s less of a need to wash walls, but for some, it’s still a tradition. Spring is a time of renewal and revival.

While you’re getting rid of all the old cobwebs of winter and freshening the house, now is a great time to do some sprucing up with a fresh look at your family’s financial security.

Your Knights of Columbus Field Agent has been trained to help you through that important exercise. Sit down with your's for a free financial needs analysis using our Profiles+ Forecaster platform. He’ll take the time to gather information from you, ask about your wants, needs and desires, and put together any recommendations to help you meet those needs.

With a wide range of products; life insurance, long-term care insurance, disability income insurance and retirement options, he can help you plan for your family’s financial security now and for many years to come. All with the safety and security of dealing with a company that shares your faith and beliefs and invests in accordance with Church teaching. Be sure to ask about the new life insurance product, the Protector NLG Universal Life. It may be a fit for your particular needs.

Get ready for spring, get your home freshened up and make sure your financial house is spruced up. It’s an easy and friendly visit from a brother Knight.

Vivat Jesus!

This March Help Us Increase Membership in the Father Michael J. McGivney Guild! The Father Michael J. McGivney Guild serves as a source for information about the life, works and spirituality of Father McGivney. The Guild distributes informational materials about him, receives reports of favors granted through his intercession and oversees the distribution of relics. Guild members receive regular updates on the progress of Father McGivney's cause for canonization and are invited to participate in promoting devotion to this Servant of God. Members of the Knights of Columbus are not automatically Guild members and must elect to join the Guild. The Father Michael J. McGivney Guild Newsletter is published bimonthly except July- August, and is sent free to Guild members. Worthy Brother Knights in the Archdiocese,

As you know, the Cause of our Founder is active at the Vatican, and we need one miracle attributed to his intercession for him to be declared Blessed.

Brian Caulfield, the Vice Postulator for the Cause of Father McGivney, is asking us to take this one step: Help bring in more Guild members who will pray for the Cause and report favors through Father McGivney’s intercession. Please help recruit members to the Guild by reaching out to your councils and encourage your brother Knights to join the Guild.

• Hold a sign-up at their March council meeting by passing around a clipboard with a sheet on which each person can put his name, address, phone #, and email.

• If a Knight does not know if he is already a Guild member, he should ask himself a simple question: Do I get the Guild newsletter in the mail? If the answer is “yes,” he is a Guild member.

• If the answer is “no,” he should sign up.

The online Guild registration page: http://www.fathermcgivney.org/mcg/en/contact/register.html There is no charge to join the Guild, and members receive many benefits:

• Remembrance in a weekly Mass offered by Guild Director Father Gabriel O’Donnell

• A quarterly newsletter with the most recent information on the Cause
