W

e still need a delegate and alternate to the Supreme Convention from Caucus Area 8 (Cincinnati Chapter general area). Currently there is a 60% chance that the Supreme convention will again be virtual. Please contact me as soon as possible if you are interested

I will be speaking more on this effort in future issues but for now please check out their webpage: www.ruahwoods.org. I am a rm believer in the importance of teaching St. John Paul II’s powerful glimpse of the human person in Theology of the Body, and this is the premier program for doing that which dovetails with our mission as Knights

fi

There will also be an LIVE inperson meet and greet at Minster Council on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 starting at 6:30 PM. All brother Knights from throughout the archdiocese are invited and encouraged to attend. This is the only opportunity to meet the candidates in person

We really didn’t know what to expect, assuming there would be a donation request. But after learning all about the program and the organization, Mike Grasinski, Ken Jones, and Tony Maas asked for our support as the Knights of Columbus for the program and for spreading the word. Support could be encouraging our local Catholic schools to utilize the program if they are not already or, of course, providing funds to help purchase materials. What a great way to put our Faith in Action!

Of course this is a very important election year as we will be voting for our new State Warden. The two candidates running for that state of ce are Chris Sarka and Brett Gissel, both from the Columbus Diocese. If you missed the Cincinnati and Dayton Chapter meetings you can nd their bios in the latest issue of the Buckeye Blast (link available on the state website)

L

astly, of cers of the Cincinnati Chapter and myself were invited to meet with representatives of Rauh Woods a Theology of the Body education center located here in Cincinnati. Many of you know that Theology of the Body is an uplifting, inspiring Christian education in what it means to be human — the gift of being made in the image & likeness of God, as male & female, called to love one another as God loves. It gives a profound perspective on why we are here & how we are to reach our ultimate destiny. This K-12 program is widely used around the country and in 70 of the 100 schools here in the Archdiocese

T

he State Convention is just around the corner. We will be streaming the Saturday morning Memorial Mass starting at 8:00 AM followed by the Super Cash Bonanza Ticket Drawing at about 9:15 AM. After that we will broadcast the Awards Ceremony, break for lunch, and then begin the Business Session starting at 13:00 (1 PM). A link will be provided so that you can watch the session, however, only registered delegates will be able to vote or speak from the oor

T

he Final Turn-In for the Super Cash Bonanza: The tickets MUST BE IN THE HANDS of our State Treasurer Jeff Kiliany on May 14, 2021. You can nd his address and contact information on the last page of the issue. If there is an issue or special circumstances, please contact Jeff

O

h how I wish this year’s State Convention could have been live – but alas the pandemic has claimed another victim for now. On the plus side, I am hearing more and more about councils who are starting to come to life after being more or less dormant over the past year. Churches are starting to ll and events are beginning to take place. It may be like lling an in-ground swimming pool with a garden hose, but we are getting there

Growth

As the end of this fraternal year draws near we Membership Directors continue to holler out with bull horns in hand, “We have not begun to quit until every last form 100 has been signed sealed and delivered. Oh, and don’t forget any E-Members in your area that need a home council.”

Should you have any question regarding the process of getting E-Members on your roster please follow these bullet points:

1. Contact them and in a positive tone tell them about what your council is involved in. Explain not all, but some of your top programs with Faith, Family, Community and Life.

2. Once the E-Members has been vetted and if your council is still not meeting (it should be!) he can pass approval by members using email of phone communication.

3. Set up a time and date for your candidate to take his Exempli cation whether it is a live degree or on-line. Remember, E-Members already have a membership number!

4. Once he takes his degree be sure he receives his rosary and lapel pin and please have your FS submit the form 100 ASAP using the FS O cers on-line. The FS’s have a portal where they can enter the new members info and Supreme receives it in very short order.

It has been extraordinaire to say the least with how well new membership has ourished during this crazy time of pandemic. Ohio is right up near the top with Florida, NY, California and Michigan. We are about to pass up New York for 3rd place in Div I. With the grace of God and some diligent work toward growing our councils we will pass NY and earn the Circle of Honor status at the Supreme Convention this summer. Not there yet but getting close!

State Deputy Bob Byers reminds us all that when it comes to such a cherished honor as the Circle of Honor, “It’s not about me, it’s about all of you knights out there. You are the ones who make Ohio great. The boots on the ground”.

I would like to thank our State Advocate Mike Felerski for his humble leadership and guidance of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati K of C. Also the District Deputies and Grand Knights for doing such a ne job and staying steady at the helm during this burdensome and di cult past 14 months. We’re not done yet! But many thanks all the same for working with me in a gentlemanly manner. I am truly grateful.

While at the Archdiocese DD Appreciation Dinner last night I had the honor of having been seated with Vern, Mike and Ben, Mercer Counties nest of DD’s. I heard stories about “cow tipping”, the best church festivals, and a few reminiscent stories of their glory days gone by. But what I really came away with was their genuine passion for their community, church and their fellow Knights of Columbus. It’s guys like this why I relish being a knight. Without pause it gives me good reason, as well should all of us, to reach out to other Catholic gentlemen so they too can experience the camaraderie and to be a part of our faith in action through Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism.

Lastly I would like to thank my two brother Membership Directors, Mike Thomas and Tom Wuebker. Personally I think we made a damn good team. Great guys and always there to help when needed. I will be moving on from this position but will stay active with State membership. Brother Rich Bischof, and former DD, will be stepping in as Arch South Membership Director.

I would like to close with a prayer for another Mercer County guy, a FDD and present Arch MD (north) Tom Wuebker as he battles cancer. Please pray for Tom and his family.

Father God, we humbly pray for all those who are fighting cancer. Give them the hope and courage they need each day. Comfort them in their pain and bless them with healing. Strengthen their family, friends, and caregivers. Amen.

Vivat Jesus!!

The Arch - May 2021

Bicentennial Marian Pilgrimage Help us celebrate the Bicentennial of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati with the longest Marian Procession in the United States. The Pilgrimage begins Sunday, May 16, 2021 with a Mass at the Our Lady of Fatima Shrine in Russells Point in the Northern area of the Archdiocese. From there, a small group of pilgrims will begin this historic pilgrimage with a special statue of Our Lady of Fatima, blessed by Archbishop Schnurr for this occasion. The pilgrimage will last for 33 days, making stops at parishes in every deanery of the Archdiocese, and will be highlighted by four cornerstone family events. The pilgrimage will end at the steps of the Cathedral Basilica of St. Peter in Chains on the day of the bicentennial, Saturday, June 19, 2021 where the Archbishop will re-consecrate the Archdiocese to Jesus through Mary.

Longest Marian Pilgrimage in the United States Parish stops in every Deanery • 33 days long • Over 300 miles

Cornerstone Events

• May 16, 2021: Opening Mass at Our Lady of Fatima Shrine, Russells Point OH • May 21, 2021: Evening Procession, Holy Hour and Movie Night at the Maria Stein Shrine • May 29, 2021: Family Concert at the Dayton Dragons Stadium • June 19, 2021: Family Concert at Fountain Square, Cincinnati with procession to Cathedral Basilica.

Highlights

• 100,000 copies of 33 Days to Morning Glory distributed to every parish in the Archdiocese. • A dedicated webpage in which the Statue of Mary can be tracked in real time, and Marian prayer resources can be found. • Specially designed prayer cards for the Bicentennial distributed by Pilgrims and host parishes.

The Archdiocese has reached out to us for support of this huge event. I know there are councils who will be present and lending support through manpower. The Knights also have the opportunity to be a sponsor. However, the lowest level of sponsorship begins at $2,500. Raising that amount of money diocese-wide is a daunting task as we are still feeling the nancial pinch from the pandemic. My hope is that councils located at and around the pilgrimage stops will be able to make their presence known supporting the event. —MJF On Facebook: ArchCincyKofC fi
