The Long Game
Just a few weeks I had the pleasure of meeting with Archbishop Dennis Schnurr at the Archdiocesan offices. I presented the Archbishop with materials on our new order wide program Aid and Support After Pregnancy (ASAP). He was enthused by this new initiative especially after blessing the recently opened Elizabeth New Life Center on the Westside.
This subtile program can truly make a difference in lives for years to come and he encourages all councils to embrace and get involved in helping their local women’s centers.
We also discussed the Beacons of Light initiative. Granted, we are only within the fi rst few months of implementing the goals of Beacons but the main thing is to understand is that this is a five year process. I have already heard for our brother Knights in the northern part of the Arch that since Beacons officially started they have worked more closely than in recently memory with their pastors in support of their new parish families.
has asked of us, his brother Knights. This is the The Long Game we are in, which hinges on a lot of different things, one of which is full support from the Knights of Columbus.
The Gospel reading from September 25th spoke about the rich man and Lazarus (Lk 16:25). I was visiting my brother’s parish in Dansville, NY and the pastor, Fr. John Gathenya, had an interesting take on it. He postulated this bout the rich man (and I paraphrase): When the rich man died and reached the pearly gates Saint Peter was there waiting.
“There is much work to be done and it cannot succeeds without the help of the lay parishioners”
Peter thumbed the Book of Life looking for the man. He found his page and then said he was sorry but the rich man was not going to be entering heaven. The rich man asked “Why, I have done nothing?” Saint Peter replied, “Exactly, you did nothing.” Father’s point was that it was his INDIFFERENCE.
There is much work to be done and it cannot succeeds without the help of the the lay parishioners the Archbishop noted. That is where we the Knights have and can help. Until we have enough priests to have a pastor in every church again, we will need to be there for our parish communities. And that is what Archbishop Schnurr
As Knights we cannot let our indifference be the downfall of our parishes, let alone our councils. We MUST persevere! Do what ever we can do to help. I have yet to meet a true brother Knight who wanted his fraternal legacy to be one of “indifference”.
Vivat Jesus! Michael J. Felerski State Treasurer
The Knights of Columbus produced feature length film about the life and legacy of Mother Teresa will be shown in over 900 theaters across the nation will show on Monday October 3 and Tuesday October 4th. “The BLITZ” Is Back For October !!
Attention: Grand Knights, Deputy Grand Knights, Membership-Growth Directors
The Month of October has traditionally been recognized as Membership Drive-Recruitment Month. For many years, it was called Membership Blitz. A few years ago the term was changed to Church Drives. Well guess what, the BLITZ is back in OHIO for October. Yes, all State of Ohio Councils are going to conduct an OCTOBER MEMBERSHIP BLITZ DRIVE. It will start on October1 and go through October 31.
You should have already ordered your Membership Drive kits from Supreme Supplies. It is still not too late to order them now if you have not done so. Go to Officers online To order supplies for your next Recruitment Drive, officers with access to Officers Online should log in, click the Supplies Online Link, and search under Kits
The next thing you need to do is contact your Parish Priest and ask permission to conduct a Delta Church Drive during OCTOBER. Then you should print a small article in your Parish Bulletin letting Men/Families know, that the Knights of Columbus in your Parish are inviting good Catholic Men to join us. Remember to emphasize that when a Knight, they will become Better in their Faith, Better Husbands, and Better Fathers.
Where there is a Need, there’s a Knight. We help out our Parishes, Our Parish Priests, and our Community. And when there’s a Knight in Need, we help Him and or his Family.
We are a Catholic Fraternal Brotherhood promoting our Faith and Life, and we are changing the world. Together we are empowering Catholic Men to Live their Faith at Home, in their Parish, at their Work and in their Community.
Start finalizing your OCTOBER BLITZ now. Do not wait any longer. Plan this out and make your Council have a Positive Growth for October. Write a couple of articles to put in your Parish bulletin for October inviting men to join. Schedule a Degree this month – don’t make a prospect wait or you will lose him.Remember the quickest and easiest way for a man to join now is Online. KofC.org/joinus.
Every council that conducts a Delta Church Drive, Conducts a Degree and brings in 5 new members during October will receive a check for $200. What are you waiting for?

NOVEMBER PRO LIFE ROSARY WALK – CINCINNATI
Our Nation faces a huge challenge in this election November 8. Will the pro-life side prevail, or will the forces of death prevail? While some want to make this only a political issue, it is at its foundation a moral issue, and as such we can talk and discuss and actively support the pro-life side. And is there a more important issue than this? What other issue results in the saving or the death of hundreds of innocents a day?
If you believe in the power of prayer, and you believe in the pro-life effort, then what better way to pray for the election of pro-life politicians than tens (dare I say hundreds) of Knights praying to end abortion on Saturday November 5th, the last Rosary Walk before the election?
For the last 20 or so years, dedicated pro-lifers, including several local Knights, have gathered every Saturday at the Holy Name Church on Auburn Ave in Clifton (Near the University of Cincinnati) to celebrate Mass, pray three mysteries of the Rosary for the end of abortion in front of the Planned Parenthood Center, and then return to Holy Name for Benediction.
Grand Knights, General Program Chairmen, Pro Life Activity Directors: bring this event to your Council. Lead by example. Get your Knights and their families to Holy Name Church at 2422 Auburn Ave by 8 am on November 5th for Mass, or by around 8:30 am for the rosary procession to Planned Parenthood. Let our prayers close down this den of iniquity, as did the walls of Jericho fall many years ago. No distance is too far to travel to pray for the end of abortion.
