3rd FRIDAY OF THE MONTH

COUNTRY NIGHT SPECIAL WELCOME DIAMOND STATE RODEO ASSOCIATION

AN OPEN LETTER Recently I have read articles and seen posts about “OUTING” someone. Yes I have read and I have heard the justifications, the selfrighteous tone some get. This attitude of “how dare they” and other statements. But trust me .... outing this Congressman or anyone, it’s just not right. Trust me, in Arkansas, we have elected officials .... one I know without a doubt .... who is in the LGBT Community. And with as much pride that I have for who I am, who God made me to be, and who I do choose to associate with .... that pride does not extend to forcing someone into a position they are not ready to be in. Years ago, I knew I was gay. I lived a lie and I knew it and I was very unhappy. But part of that unhappiness were gay individuals who kept pushing me, tricking me, talking behind my back and making it obvious I NEEDED TO COME OUT. Sometimes things were said in public and it embarassed and angered me. Coming out is a big deal. It marks a point when individuals are honest with themselves, those whom they love, and the world at large. It’s not “choosing a lifestyle”, but rather it’s choosing to be honest. To say I accept myself and your approval is neither required nor desired, but I do seek your acceptance. Coming out for many of us is a freeing moment, a declaration of independence as it were, a time to say here I am, take me or leave me, but I won’t be ashamed of who I am anymore, nor will I choose to live a lie. But this outing ordeal .... it’s wrong. First of all, it’s no one else’s business to PROVE to the world what someone’s sexuality or orientation is, much less put out who they are and who they identify to be. Second of all, yes there are politicians who are secretly gay or bi who vote against the self-interests of the community they sneek around in. But guess what, there’s politicians who talk a good game about poverty or middle class and are rich as can be. There are politicians who profess Christianity and wear it on their sleeve. They

will stand up for a duck call selling bigot but do you see them feeding the poor, clothing the naked, taking care of the widows and the oppressed. Hypocrisy reigns in politics and in society. The point of coming out is like a rebirth. It’s a magical and often a positive moment. Some never get to that point and they are as much stillborn as those who live their life in fear. But we as a society should work to build a community where the fear erodes, the judgement fades away, and where through simple acts of respect and love these closetted folks have the courage and where with all to just come clean and be who they were meant to be. It will be a happier time but it’s their choice to make that leap, not ours or anyone elses. I know some closetted folks may read this. One or two of you know I know. And guess what .... I can care less whether you come out or not. I will remain your friend and I say those who wish to out someone .... save the drama, momma. Ain’t nobody got time for that. Go tend to weeds in your own garden and leave others to tend their own garden. That’s just my .02 cents. AN OPEN LETTER Recently I have read articles and seen posts about “OUTING” someone. Diedra Windsor ----------------------------------------------------------Hey everyone, this month’s benefit is for Lucie’s Place. They have a special need for bus passes for their kids to get to counseling. So

The point of coming out is like a rebirth. It’s a magical and often a positive moment. Some never get to that point and they are as much stillborn as those who live their life in fear. many folks volunteered to perform, last month for this month, that I’ve lost track. So, please let me know if I’m missing anyone here. I’ve got Kristian Kyler, Timothy James Woodard, Alexandra Tomahawk, Brooklyn Bissette, Tasha Galore, GiGi Galore, Imani Starr and her two friends (cannot remember their names to save me), Tequila Mockingbird, Christopher Pounders, Ryan Whitfield. If I have forgotten someone, please comment here. If you can’t make it, please comment here. With so many, with the exception of Brooklyn, Gigi, and Imani, everyone should probably limit themselves to one song. Bring two just in case. And the show will be at 11pm, so please be there by 9:30. You can bring your music in, or email it to mkmusic@djmoongod.com. Even if you email it, I would still bring a copy. Please respond here yay or nay as soon as possible, so I can get the flyer done. Thank you so much!

I know some closetted folks may read this.

blu by Virginia Grise

– Memory, history, and culture collide with the starlit rooftop dreams of a myth-inspired character as Soledad and her partner, Hailstorm, redefine family on their own terms after the death of their eldest son in Iraq. blu, steeped in poetic realism and contemporary politics, challenges us to try to imagine a time before war. Set in Barrio, USA, Grise’s powerful, one-act play traces the explosive after-effects of prison and hunger, desire and war, following a queer Chicana/o family as they try to envision an earth and sky without police and their helicopters. Soledad and her woman Hailstorm raise Blu, Gemini and Lunatico while their father Eme serves a three-strike sentence. Soledad tries to hold it all together without having her bruised heart touched or broken, one more time. Each performance will feature a post-show talk-back with the actors and creative team. blu by Virginia Grise at The Weekend Theater January 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25 Directed by Ryan Whitfield CAST Blu……………..Austin Aschbrenne Luna…………..Manuel Urban Gemini……….Brittany Cook Halestorm…..Leslie Heister Soledad………Madison Hannahs Eme…………..Antwon Staton TICKETS & TIMES $16 — Adults. $12 — Students/Seniors Curtain time is 7:30 pm. Central Arkansas Pride has also become a coalition member of the Arkansas Coalition for Reproductive Justice to push for more awareness of LGBTQ health issues. The mission of the ACRJ is: To build a grassroots network of reproductive justice supporters, who will take action to improve education, access, and equality, with regards to reproductive rights and services for all Arkansans. On Saturday, January 18, 2014, we will rally on the steps of the Arkansas State Capitol at 1:00 pm and demand reproductive justice for all! Reproductive justice is important for all Arkansans regardless of gender or sexual orientation and we believe that all people deserve access to the reproductive health care they need, free from conflict, opposition, and shame. We are seeking a legislature and court system that respect and protect each individual’s right and ability to make his or her own reproductive health care decisions. This is especially important given the attacks on reproductive rights during the 2013 Arkansas legislative session. The upcoming 4th Annual Reproductive Justice Rally is one way to educate and inspire Arkansans to stand up for reproductive justice for all. The rally was a great way to energize the public, and we look forward to a greater turnout in January 2014. Organizations that have already signed on with the Arkansas Coalition for Reproductive Justice include: ACLU Arkansas Planned Parenthood of the Heartland Little Rock NOW AAUW Arkansas Arkansas Women’s Project Central Arkansas PRIDE Hendrix SAGE If your organization would like to join the coalition, there are tiered sponsorship plans that accommodate all budgets and include benefits such as having a booth at the rally, your organization’s name on promotional materials. Please let me know if you are interested! Sponsorship and organizational logos/names are due by Wednesday, November 20th. We hope you and your members will join the coalition and lend your support at the rally! Thanks, Jennifer Pierce Chair, Central Arkansas Pride
