Darragh Center - Main Library Little Rock 100 Rock St Description Important Community Event Regarding LGBTQ Elders! Arkansas LGBTQ Elders Presents the First Arkansas Screening: “Gen Silent” January 19, 2014 Mixer with refreshments from 1pm-2pm Film screens at 2pm with a facilitated discussion afterwards Darragh Center of the Main Library 100 Rock St. Little Rock, AR FREE, although donations are welcome This award winning documentary chronicles the problems and challenges of LGBTQ seniors who are aging in a still sometimes hostile and indifferent world. Gen Silent is the critically-acclaimed documentary from filmmaker Stu Maddux that asks six LGBT seniors if they will hide their friends, their spouses- their entire lives in order to survive

in the care system. Their surprising decisions are captured through intimate access to their day-to-day lives over the course of a year. For more information about this film: http:// stumaddux.com/GEN_SILENT.html About the Arkansas LGBTQ Elders: There are currently no formal support or service entities that work with Arkansas’ LGBTQ elders. In recognition of this the AR LGBTQ Elders ad-hoc steering committee was formed. The group’s goal is to develop, with LGBTQ elder community input and support, a program that works with and for LGBTQ seniors aged 50 and up. However, all ages and straight allies are welcome to participate. Currently the effort is housed within CAR, an LGBTQ centric organization based in Little Rock, AR. Central Arkansas Pride has also become a coalition member of the Arkansas Coalition for Reproductive Justice to push for more awareness of LGBTQ health issues. The mission of the ACRJ is: To build a grassroots network of reproductive justice supporters, who will take action to improve education, access, and equality, with regards to reproductive rights and services for all Arkansans. On Saturday, January 18, 2014, we will rally on the steps of the Arkansas State Capitol at 1:00 pm and demand reproductive justice for all! Reproductive justice is important for all Arkansans regardless of gender or sexual orientation and we believe that all people deserve access to the reproductive health care they need, free from conflict, opposition, and shame. We are seeking a legislature and court system that respect and protect each individual’s right and ability to make his or her own reproductive health care decisions. This is especially important given the attacks on reproductive rights during the 2013 Arkansas legislative session. The upcoming 4th Annual Reproductive Justice Rally is one way to educate and inspire Arkansans to stand up for reproductive justice for all. The rally was a great way to energize the public, and we look forward to a greater turnout in January 2014. Organizations that have already signed on with the Arkansas Coalition for Reproductive Justice include: ACLU Arkansas Planned Parenthood of the Heartland Little Rock NOW AAUW Arkansas Arkansas Women’s Project Central Arkansas PRIDE Hendrix SAGE If your organization would like to join the coalition, there are tiered sponsorship plans that accommodate all budgets and include benefits such as having a booth at the rally, your organization’s name on promotional materials. Please let me know if you are interested! Sponsorship and organizational logos/names are due by Wednesday, November 20th. We hope you and your members will join the coalition and lend your support at the rally! Thanks, Jennifer Pierce Chair, Central Arkansas Pride
