We’re having a sale to benefit Little Rock Pride 2014! We need items, and we need you to come shop. The sale will take place Friday and Saturday, May 16th and 17th, from 6am to noon at the corner of Cantrell and Branch Drive in Little Rock. We need lots of stuff to sell, so clean out those closets! Contact Sara Strickland for a drop-off time. We also need folks to help set-up and to assist during the sale, so please let us know if you can help.

Invitation To An Arkansas LGBTQ Elders Event We have a time and place for our next event, the showing of the acclaimed and inspirational documentary We Were Here. We have room #124, Arkansas Studies Institute Building, 401 President Clinton Avenue, (located at the south end of the ASIB galleries), from 1:00 pm to 5:30 pm, Saturday, May 10, 2014. This film is about the HIV/AIDS crisis in San Francisco. There will be a panel of medical professionals to answer questions and discuss the current status of HIV/AIDS, including treatment options, what undetectable viral load means, and how near a normal life one has living affected . Of course the panel members may bring up whatever other issues they believe pertinent. Here are a couple of reviews of the documentary: “Of all the cinematic explorations of the AIDS crisis, not one is more heartbreaking and inspiring than WE WERE HERE… Throughout WE WERE HERE there is not a hint of mawkishness, self-pity or self-congratulation. The humility, wisdom and cumulative sorrow expressed lend the film a glow of spirituality and infuse it with grace.” (New York Times) “David Weissman and Bill Weber’s brisk, tender, multifaceted, and deeply moving documentary, tells the story of the AIDS crisis through the voices of four gay men … and one woman, all of whom pitched in—for years—to help the sick and the dying because, as the movie makes clear, the circumstances made it unthinkable for them to do otherwise. They and their comrades are the equivalent of World War II resistance fighters, and the film gives their commitment and courage the celebration it deserves…. simply the most compelling history of the major tragedy and epic struggle of our time.” (Art of the Real: Documentary Redefined, Film Society Lincoln Center) What a stark contrast to the current bias of LGBTQs towards those living with HIV/AIDS.
