Upcoming Events CHINCHILLA MELON FESTIVAL

TARA FESTIVAL OF CULTURE & CAMEL RACES

Chinchilla is known as the Melon Capital of Australia, and so where else would you go to celebrate the biennial Melon Festival! The festival includes a full program of events such as melon farm tours, lunch with local chefs and local produce, and many other melon-activities.

The Tara Festival of Culture and Camel Races are held every second year to include festival camping with camp oven cooking demonstrations, farm tours, a bush dance, a live concert and of course the camel races.

Held every second year in February. BIG SKIES FESTIVAL Each year the Western Downs enjoy showcasing some of Australia’s music greats on the grounds of the iconic Jimbour Station for their annual Big Skies Festival. Other activities during Big Skies include camp kitchen meals, local markets, and regional tours. Keep an eye out for this festival in May. JANDOWAE TIMBERTOWN FESTIVAL Each year the town of Jandowae turns it on for the Jandowae Timbertown Festival which includes local markets showcasing regional produce, country hospitality, live entertainment, and free family fun. Held every second year in June. OPERA AT JIMBOUR Each year you can enjoy a real country experience with a classical twist at the Opera at Jimbour. Located on the glorious grounds of Jimbour House, Opera at Jimbour is a full day of fun for the whole family and includes unique and tasty finds of food and wine from the Western Downs region. Held every year in July.

DALBY STOCKHORSE SALE The annual Dalby Stockhorse Sale is a pinnacle event that promotes the versatility of the great Australian Stock Horse - the “Breed for Every Need”. Held every year in December. DALBY’S DELICIOUS AND DELIGHTFUL FESTIVAL Each year Dalby locals come together to host their own multicultural festival that embraces the many cultures in our nation and in the Western Downs. Keep an eye out for this festival in August. MILES BACK TO THE BUSH FESTIVAL Held biennially in Miles is a celebration of all we love about living in the bush. The Miles back to the bush festival includes activities such as the “Feedlot to Fork” a paddock-to-plate dinner experience featuring locally produced beef and condiments. Keep an eye out for this festival in September. TOWN SHOWS The Western Downs are renowned for their annual town shows which are a fantastic opportunity for visitors to experience authentic local activities and local produce experiences.
