James Barnes <editor@out-in-thailand.com> SHOUT OUT ! May 2011 You

Here we are in May already and this issue is as hot as the season. Read all about Danny and his fabulous Beach Group of gay venues, Centara Boutique Collection’s Paul Snow and the gay future and the Mr Gay World pageant. OUT iT stepped into the fray last month and put pressure on Apple who released an app from the odious Exodus group that claimed a ‘cure’ for gayness. Apple backed down and the app was removed. See this month’s OUT Post and read how we got a welcome for banned gays in a Bangkok pub. For all the latest news, join us on Facebook- out-in-thailand.com/ facebook Our knickers have been in a collective twist about the maps & listings in the guide section so next month, look out for a brand new, easier to follow format!

Dear James, As one of the ‘accused’ regulars at the Barbican, I feel the need to let the Gay World know, how discriminating some people still are, even if such an action is illegal (Human Rights Declaration, of which Thailand is a part). I hope that we all can fight such barb(ic)arian actions and hope for the better. I quote from an email I just received: “ A curious story is circulating on the Internet. I feel it cannot possibly be true. It seems that for a couple of years, a group of men in their 60s and 70s have been going every Wednesday and Friday afternoons to THE BARBICAN pub on Taniya Road, just off Silom. The group, which meets at Happy Hour to chat and sociali se while having a few pints, varies in number from about four to ten, depending on what conflicting commitments these old friends may have that afternoon. Appare ntly, last Wednesday they were told not to come back again as they were no longer welcome. The reason given (and this is what is so hard to believe) appear s to be that the management believed them to be homosexuals. An Englishman and his Swedish wife, who were shocked to hear it from one of the Barbican regular s, told me this. The man remarked, “in Britain, the owners would be in court in no time.” By the way, congratulations for the excellent new magazine! I do apprec iate it a lot. Thanks Rudolf of Switzerland, 7 years resident in Thailand and a ‘regular’ for many years at Barbican Pub. Dear Rudolf, OUT iT Thailand contacted the Barbican and spoke to Joy Menzies who now issues this statement: The Barbican Management very much regret the way a recent communicatio n was received by a group of loyal gay customers and would like to take this opport unity to publically apologise for any misunderstandings caused. The Barbican is for people from any community, our customers like the fact the Barbican is a mix of many different kinds of people - a good balance of the sexes, locals and tourists , Asians and westerners - gay and straight, all are very welcome. The group, as always are very welcome to frequent our establishment and I very much look forward to greeting them once more in the near future and put this unfortunate and misread incident behind us. For and on behalf of the management. Joy Menzies So, a great result! OUT in Thailand will always support the gay community and will always get things done. JB.

J Paul Snow – from Auckland New Zealand is a youthful 56 years young. He began in hospitality at the age of 16 entering the New Zealand Army as an apprentice Chef with an eventual posting to Singapore. He stayed for 2 years before returning home where he managed a small restaurant until itchy feet led him to Australia, joining Grand Hyatt Melbourne and eventually becoming Chef de Cuisine of Max’s Seafood Restaurant. Soon he was Executive Chef with Hyatt and work in Dubai, Australia, Osaka Japan and South Korea. In 2004, he was offered work in Thailand and he has been here ever since, working for four years with Six Senses in Hua Hin and most recently before joining Centara, as Operations Manager.

8

9

Paul started with Centara Hotels and Resorts in April 2010 – Centara acquired the management of seven properties, which were previously under the umbrella of Astudo Hotel and Resort Group with a view to starting the Centara Boutique Collection. “Initially I assisted with the transition to Centara for all seven properties in marketing, branding and operational standards,” he says, “I was recently asked to join Centara as the Operations Manager of the Centara Boutique Collection which I proudly accepted.” Centara Hotels & Resorts operate a chain of first class hotels throughout Thailand and was founded by the Chirathivat family - a major owner, developer and operator of mixed commercial malls, retailing businesses, Central Department stores and trading businesses throughout the Kingdom. Centara Hotels & Resorts, formerly Central Hotels & Resorts, is a leading Thai hotel chain with nearly 30 years of service to the hotel industry.

10

“THE CENTARA BOUTIQUE COLLECTION IS AS DIVERSE AS THEIR GUESTS.”

“The Centara Boutique Collection is as diverse as their guests. Paul explains,“Generally they are all small properties in locations that you may initially not think of for a vacation. We have a resort in Koh Kood, Rayong, Kui Buri, Pranburi and Samui – they are all as different as each other- as distinctive as you and well away from the usual tourist traps.” Peace and quiet with total relaxation is high on the agenda for any stay at a Centara Boutique Collection property – you will not see water aerobics or noisy kids clubs!

Gays are welcome! “We already have many gay guests,” says Paul. “In 2009 X2 Samui hosted the largest gay party ever held in the region with over 600 guests arriving from all over Asia to enjoy a dance party with international DJ right on the waterfront of the resort – an unrivalled success which we look forward to emulating in the future.”

11

Paul’s philosophy regarding the gay market is well defined; “Gay guests expect to be treated in the same way as any other guests. For the most part, we travel as couples– it is not usual that groups of gay people go on vacation to boutique hotels together – groups normally gather for dance parties and city events. Having said that, I do plan to organize a series of special packages for gay customers: small groups of 20 to 30 people to enjoy a few days together in a ‘Lifestyle Experi12

ence’. Travel to a resort, accommodation in a villa, lunches and dinners together, local activities and workshops, ‘beating stress’, ‘look younger for longer’, ‘looking after your health’ and so on.” Handsome Paul guarantees that a gay stay at any of his resorts will be memorable; “You will be treated respectfully and with integrity and enjoy a truly relaxing vacation where all of your expectations are met in an anticipatory manner.” 13

He invites you to experience the gay scene in Thailand which he describes as, “Colourful, pervasive, exciting, open, vibrant and exuberant. It is internationally recognized as one of the most accepted lifestyles in the world and almost certainly makes up a very large percentage of the total visitors. It is interesting to note that in the past few years, same sex couples arriving at our resorts are almost commonplace now and do not stand out for any reason at all. The latter does not apply only to couples living in Thailand – we have people arriving in greater numbers than ever from Hong Kong, Germany, Malaysia and Singapore for example, seeking a space where they can relax and enjoy their vacation which might not be possible in a number of other places.”

He is also optimistic about the future; “Thailand will remain one of the most preferred destinations for gay visitors. The warmth of Thai hospitality and the inherent understanding and graciousness of the culture allows a lifestyle that is non judgmental towards all manner of things that make one person different than another – I feel confident that gay tourism will prosper and grow.”

The ultimate gay hotel Babylon Bed & Breakfast

By Adrian J. Parry

To survive, thrive and prosper, any gay run establishment cannot simply rest on its laurels in the hope that its male only environment will alone bring hoards of guests. It is for this reason that Babylon Bed & Breakfast in Bangkok is committed to offering its male only guests not only a friendly, gay environment, but also offer patrons a range of accommodations to suit every budget, and notable for the high quality of its rooms, facilities, ambience and customer service. 16

Finding a place to stay has never been easier. The Internet has hundreds of sites to meet the needs of anyone looking for an hotel. For the gay traveler, the search has added nuance. Do you select your hotel because it is gay or at least gay friendly or base your choice on the quality of the offerings, irrespective of any straight-gay designation? The answer to many will be obvious. After all, as someone once said to me, do you eat in an overpriced, badly run restaurant with uninspiring food because it is ‘gay’ or rather take your date the best eatery in town with great prices and superb food, service and ambience? Go figure!

As one of the largest and oldest gay businesses in Asia – now approaching a quarter of a century – Babylon has long been regarded as perhaps, in the words of Timeout magazine, “the most beautiful sauna in the world”, a designer bath house if you will; the spa at the gay country club! However, what is less well known is that for the last decade, Babylon has also offered its visitors the a range of accommodations, housed conveniently on the same estate and perfectly located in a leafy suburb off prestigious Sathorn Road.

Babylon accommodations range from standard rooms to sumptuous suites. At the lower end, the regular rooms are known as the ‘barracks’ by virtue of their somewhat military feel. Each room is simply but tastefully furnished with two twins or one queen sized bed, together with a desk, minibar and TV. Those who expect an en suite bathroom may be disappointed but for many, the communal shower, washing and toilet facilities on each floor are precisely the selling point of these affordable rooms. At any hour of the day, and most notably in the early hours of the morning, men skimpily dressed in towels or even less can be seen parading their wares in these washrooms, and with more than hot water on their minds! The Barracks is a fantasy come true – a cruising ground 24/7 that even the most jaded of gay travelers would find exciting.

For those who prefer something a little more upscale, Babylon also offers three types of suites, at amazingly affordable prices when compared to similar levels of accommodation. No attention to detail has been spared, and they are decorated in a pleasing blend where Thai minimalism meets Asian antiquity. Each of the Baroness Suites, housed in the main building, has a beautifully appointed bedroom, en suite bathroom, and private living room. Their selling point is space and, in particular, a private balcony, offering spectacular views of the city from their location on the rooftop of the building. At ground level, the recently expanded range of Bvlgari suites offers similar interiors, but with the advantage of a shared living area and a private tropically landscaped garden where guests can be found relaxing or reading in one of the lounge chairs in the shade. 17

come and see for yourself...

Last but not least, the Botticelli House, located at the entrance to Babylon, has several spectacularly decorated suites with a private garden. Each comes with a personal butler to attend to your every need. Recently, construction at the Sukhothai condominium complex nearby caused some disruption in terms of noise pollution, but now that that project is almost complete, Babylon is proud to offer its showcase house to would-be guests once again. 18

...they await your pleasure

The interior of the rooms has to be seen to be believed – few five star hotels can boast such an appealing and unique style. All rooms include a delicious daily breakfast – cooked and served by smiling and friendly ladies on the rooftop restaurant – plus free wireless Internet,

and most importantly for many guests, two complimentary daily sauna passes. Indeed, after sharing breakfast with fellow gay travelers, or quietly reading the daily newspapers, many patrons find their way down to the entrance to the spa and spend the day sampling its delights 19

Under the brash blue neon light

By Koonmo

It was dark midnight. Under the brash blue neon light; Young men sat on plastic stools, Cheering friends who played pool; Puffing cigarettes, swilling rice wine: Beautiful youth, delinquent & swine. A stranger stood by the threshold of their den: A pleasure grove, full of luscious men. Adam’s snake slithered happily along the dirty floor. The boys’ wishes come true at their very door, They ushered him in with a twinkle and a wink, But when he came into this vicious rink, The cold blooded reptile crawled all over, Squeezing all power out of the rover.

poolside with their new friends until night falls. Some guests arrive at Babylon only to stay at the facility without ever setting foot off the estate! By day, by night, Babylon has something for everyone. For those who like to book for more than a few days, there are currently promotions for weekly or monthly stays, which in some cases reduce the cost of a room or suite by almost fifty per cent – an amazing bargain. See the Babylon website for details.

It was bright midday. The stranger came back for further play. The pool hall smelled smoky & beery And empty of players seemed quite eerie. The mood sent a shiver running down his spine. In his excitement he was hoping for a sign Of life, of flesh, a sudden apparition Which would fulfill his yearning and volition. Alas - the wanderer quickly came to realize, That it would be utterly wise To control his urges and wait; For it is not just a matter of fate That they come out every night Only, in the absence of sunlight.

Forget the five star hotels, the overpriced boutique establishments, or even the dubious pleasures of a cheap guesthouse. For the gay visitor to Bangkok, one choice stands out – Babylon Bed & Breakfast. Come and see for yourself. They await your pleasure. 20

COVER STORY

Life’s A Beach- so have FUN! In March we met handsome Khun Kittinun (Danny) Daramadhaj, head boy of The Rainbow Sky Association of Thailand. He spoke about the great work they do in support of gay rights and safer sex awareness. This month we discover that Danny is also the businessman behind Thailand’s biggest gay business empireThe Beach Group.

Danny is a busy guy. He always seems to be dressed in black- a dramatic contrast to his colourful personality. He is modest and laid back but behind the dark brown eyes there is a busyness that is all business. His offices in the expansive Beach Residence hotel in Bangkok, team with bustling staff and he prefers to be interviewed in a comfortable sitting room. Plentiful supplies of iced water are on hand and he is relaxed, smiling and welcoming. It is hard to imagine how he manages to fit so much into his day. He is a man with more pies than fingers. 22

“It’s not easy,” he smiles, “but I find the time!” He is an adept organiser and carefully separates his business and his work for the RSA, Thailand’s leading gay NGO. “My businesses are now well established so all the systems are in place and everything runs smoothly.” The Beach Group has now been up and running for more than a decade and has more than 200 staff- it is an enviable success story.

But is has not been all plain sailing. “I opened my first business 18 years ago. It was a gay housing project and resort in Nakorn Ratchasima, called ‘Flower City’. I invested 100 million THB in the 150 rai development but it did not work out.” Danny is admirably philosophical: “It was a case of bad timing!”

Eleven years ago he opened The Beach Resort Sauna in Bangkok’s Sukhumvit and this mens health centre was a terrific success, which established Danny, and The Beach became an essential Thai gay brand. “Because I am gay, I wanted to start a gay business that would serve gay people,” he says, candidly. This qualified lawyer attracts as many as 1,000 customers at a time to the Beach Sauna; among them, many celebrities and socialites. There is a fitness room, steam room, sauna, swimming pool, big screen movies, garden and private lounge and all for just 99THB! You will also discover Danny’s second Beach Sauna in Khon Kaen, full of handsome Isaan guys! 23

, s r e m o t s u c y a g r o f n u r ” . n u “Gay F s i t p e c n o c e h t e wher The Beach Residence is a gay hotel with 80 rooms in the heart of Bangkok. “Here we welcome and celebrate sexual diversity,” he proclaims, proudly, “Gay guys, Toms, Kathoeys, they are all my customers.” The hotel provides plenty of entertainment, a shop and serves as Rainbow Sky’s headquarters. The price for a night 24

ranges from 599-1500 THB with monthly rates from 4,000- 40,000 THB. Most of the customers are Thai but Danny welcomes foreign visitors, “All nations, all languages.” His philosophy is that gay people from anywhere will identify with each other.

The Ka Daejung is the Beach Group’s Bangkok disco dance club- check out the amazing troupe of gay Coyote Boy dancers with their highly individual routines. Like all of Danny’s enterprises, it bears a familiar hallmark: “The heart of the Beach Group is gay,” he says with conviction and pride, “Gay run for gay customers, where the concept is Fun.” Note that fun is with a capital ‘F’! Danny looks at his watch. The interview is over and he parts with a handshake and a wai. Thanked for his time, he almost blushes, saying that he is a fan of OUT iT. “It is new but not a passing trend, great content, good quality with real meaty reading and completely gay,” is his verdict. Thank you, Danny. For more details about The Rainbow Sky Association, log onto www.rsat.info and The Beach Group, www.thebeach-g-thailand.com or call Danny Beach 089 925 7570 25

Asia Zero Points at Mr Gay World contest

By Michael Lenz

Francois Nel is Mr. Gay World (MGW) 2011. At the pageant held in Manila, the panel of judges was in favour of the 28 year old hunky South African. The vote did not really come as a surprise to many observers of the Mr-Gay-World-enterprise. Of course Nel is a good looking guy. He has a charming personality and back at home he is an activist for Aids awareness and safer sex. As it happens, the 4th Mr Gay World contest will be staged in 2012 in South Africa. Kampa Somsrikaew

Furthermore, the majority of judges were gay white men. Some of them were editors of gay magazines and they know what does not at all appeal to the majority of their audience: Asians. “The readership of gay magazines in the West doesn’t see Asians as manly or masculine,” an editor of Europe’s biggest gay publishing house confided in me a few months ago over lunch. Nine out of 23 candidates, the sexy guys from South America included, were people with coloured skin. Hence, the MGW contestants from Macau and Hong Kong, Malaysia and India did not really stand a chance to win the title. Only Mr Gay Philippines could score. Thanks to the Filipino audience, he won the Mr. Gay People’s Choice Award and as reference to the host country, he was bestowed with Mr. Gay National 26

Costume award. There we go. GWM are the pin up boys, Asians deliver the ethnic accessory. Perhaps it is of some consolation for Mr Gay Thailand that Asian did not stand a real chance of winning. Kampa Somsrikaew from Pattaya had to cancel his travel to Manila on a very short notice. His passport was still with the Swiss embassy in Bangkok for his application for a Swiss visa. As soon as he will have the much desired stamp he will be off to Zurich to ‚marry’ his partner in a Civil Union. “We have been together for seven years. It is about time to get serious,” smiles Kampa. The MGW officials, a clique of well-todo, middle-aged It-Gays from Australia, Europe and the US, did not communicate the absence of Mr Gay Thailand.

Jude Cartalaba, the Filipino media liaison officer said apologetically: “I am not at liberty to reveal any information.” Transparency was not a trademark of the MGW organisers. Even hours before the outreach event (doing good is as important as looking good in these events) the 23 delegates did not know which kind of social project they would visit. There was no official statement of how the delegates, who had to pay the expenses for their travels to Manila by themselves, made it into the finals. They organisers simply suggested that each and everyone won the national competition in his home country. Some, like Mr Gay Finland, did. Others like the terrific Bern Lim aka Mr Gay Malaysia, who together with his Filipino partner is a proud parent of a son conceived by a surrogate mother, had simply applied to the organisers.

Kampa, who became Mr Gay Thailand in a pageant last December held in the gay bar and guest house The Bondi in Pattaya-Jomtien, was very much looking forward to travel to Manila. “I want to talk about my beautiful country,” Kampa said three weeks before he was supposed to fly to the Philippines. Kampa would not have found many listeners. The media coverage of the MGW event was scarce. Only some local media plus a few international gay media as sponsors and whose editors served as judges covered the event. Other (gay) international media representatives were required to buy a ticket for 75 USD minus a ten percent discount. Tickets galore were available since 75 USD were out of reach for the average Filipino. Most gay people in Manila did not know about the MGW event any27

That Will Never Happen to Me! But it did at 1:45pm on Saturday, February 12 And it changed everything for me

By Don Harrelson

way. A MGW sponsor from the Philippines, owner of a gay travel agency who does not want to be named, lamented two days before the finals: “I have talked to a few owners of gay bars. They had never heard about MGW.” A bit more publicity would have been good for the gay community in the Philippines, where the Catholic Church is still very powerful. Homosexuality is outlawed and sexual issues cannot be addressed in public. No wonder that the Philippines are amongst the only seven countries where the number of HIV cases are still on the rise. The gay community hopes the parliament will soon pass the Reproductive Health Bill despite the staunch opposition of the church. “That would make Aids education much easier,” says Francis P. Reotutar, founder and 28

owner of Red Bridge Books, the very first publishing house in the Philippines for gay literature. Being gay in many Asian countries is not as easy and hassle free as it is in Thailand. “There is no gay culture in my country and homosexuality is taboo,” says Jonathan Chong, Mr. Gay Macau. Patil, 23, from Mumbai says, he had agreed to become Mr Gay India to make gay Indians more visible. The Supreme Court abolished the anti-gay-laws two years ago. But Indians are still very conservative and the religions are stirring up anti-gay sentiments. The courage of the Indian guy, the one from Macau or the gay father from Malaysia would have deserved to be awarded, but, well, read above....

No one ever thinks that they will be “disabled”, either for a short time or permanently. I was lucky, I’m recovering from a fall that broke my hip and I’m well on my way to returning to my old self but this has been a rude awakening. I have an incredible group of friends who have come together to help me and make sure that I have food in my apartment and travel to the doctor for follow up visits. They’ve even taken me out to my favorite pub on a few occasions and that has made a world of difference. But I never planned on this happening and for most of us, we never even thought about this kind of event. It has made me plan for my older future. Have you?

Insurance covered my hospital care fairly well. Out-of-pocket expense was about 20% of my total hospitalization. The care I received was good. There were a few times that the Thai/English was a little difficult but not impossible. I also had several Thai friends who were there to help with this and solved any concerns that I had. I told my friends, if it hadn’t been for a broken hip, it would have been a wonderful stay in the hospital! If you think that will never happen to you, you are fooling yourself. As we age, I’m 63, these things tend to happen because we are not as young as we used to be (think we are) and are more likely to get injured in a simple mishap. I’m the living example of that. 29

Never think it won’t happen to you! d you’d It will at sometime an better be prepared.

I had my mobile with me and was able to make calls as I sat on the sidewalk. It happened at the front of my apartment building but getting in touch with a friend inside was a challenge. I called other friends and no-one picked up. The security guards were as helpful as possible BUT their English and my Thai was not working well. Eventually, a Thai who spoke good English came to my rescue and went to get my farang friend. He arrived and things began to happen. 30

It was about 45 minutes before an ambulance arrived to take me to the hospital. I had my insurance information with me and that was a big help in the ambulance and at the hospital. I went to my “regular” hospital, 5 km away. The best part of the week in hospital was the friends who came to visit. It was such a joy to know that they cared. My friends helped me through this. Without them, I’m not sure if I would have done as well as I have.

Never think it won’t happen to you! It will at sometime and you’d better be prepared. First, carry a list of names and phone numbers on you, everywhere you go. Don’t depend on your mobile to be working or your memory. When things happen, we don’t always think clearly. Second, make sure you have your medical insurance information all the time. You never know when you will need it. The phone number of your hospital and/ or doctor is a must. If possible, get to your choice of hospitals- they will have all of your records.

If this is not possible, be prepared to explain your medical history to the staff. Carry a copy of your passport- a hospital that you have never been to will need some ID. You will need to have proof of payment- credit card or insurance. If possible, find someone who can be with you and help- you will be too busy feeling bad with your injury or illness. I was very lucky that I had 2 friends who made this part of my medical journey easier. All of this is not much help if you are unconscious! This is where a list of names and number is vital. Be prepared! It can, and will happen! 31

TRUE LOVE? Part 4 – In sickness and in health,

When Paa awoke it was well into the morning and the sun had risen in a clear blue sky. Loi Krathong is the Thai equivalent of Harvest festival. The boys from the bar all set about making Krathong; intricate woven creations of leaves and flowers, which people float out to sea with a coin on them to bind partnerships. Paa made a special Krathong and put some extra work into the weaving to impress his man. He wondered if he might just make a good friend of this customer. It would be a nice evening as long as the customer appreciated the work Paa had done. Chris had a quiet day. He had high hopes and nice plans for some sexy action with Paa later. After this he would say goodbye and find a new lad to have fun with. He went and had a meal at a cheap café. The Hungarian Goulash tasted weird. He was sure it was off, but he was hungry and didn’t want to waste his money. Suddenly small stomach cramps started to come over him. In terror he reckoned something in the Goulash had poisoned him. Rushing to the toilet, he was violently sick. He decided to go back to his apartment and clean his teeth. Once there, he was struck by a violent and terrible case of diarrhoea. 32

He cleaned himself up and decided he could risk it. After all there couldn’t be much left in his system after that two ended explosion and there were toilets on the beach if he needed them. Paa saw the farang coming and smiled. He showed him the Krathong he had made and the man bought it for 100 Baht. The beach party was fun. Everyone let their Krathong out to sea, and the man put 10 Baht on theirs. Paa was having a great time. All too soon it was indicated they should go. They got on a motorbike taxi, in the normal 3-up fashion. After the farang spent some time in the toilet, they settled down to sleep. He was really surprised that the man hadn’t repeated his sexy games, but he obeyed the man’s instruction and turned over, nestling himself against the man’s back, which had been turned towards him. Chris saw the boy when he got to the bar. He looked great, and had obviously put some effort into dressing up. It was a shame that he didn’t feel well. The food poisoning was taking its toll. The party wasn’t what he had hoped. On the ride back, with his bowels screaming, he was squashed by the boy on a bike. When he got home he felt wretched and after

another agonising trip to the bathroom, he settled down to sleep. He turned his back on the boy to indicate he should leave him alone and dozed off. When Paa awoke, he had wet legs. He had no idea why or what had happened. The farang jumped up and dashed to the bathroom. Then it dawned on Paa what the wet was. Far from being disgusted, he was filled with sorrow and pity for him. He followed him into the shower, helped him clean himself and then stripped the bed. The man appeared really upset and gave him 2000 Baht for the help he had given. Maybe he had found his true love, one who would help out his family and look after the boy. Maybe in return he could look after the farang and make sure he wasn’t sick again. Maybe … Chris awoke with a start. In his sleep he had passed wind and followed through. What an embarrassment. Full of shame he went to the shower and wasn’t surprised when the boy joined him. After all, they both needed to clean up. The boy helped him strip the bed. He knew he had to get rid of the boy. Pay him off and move on to the next lad. He thought 2000 Baht should do it. After all £40 was a small price to pay to bury his secret. He took him to the bus and waved the boy goodbye. For Chris that was to be the end of this story. Maybe.…

History? Just one thing after another...

OUT on tv

Leading this would-be refreshing thrust is Brad Meltzer’s Decoded. Mr. Meltzer has enjoyed a degree of commercial success writing a series of novels that have cashed in on Dan Brown’s conspiracy capers fashion and now pops up here with eccentric excuses for investigative films. He has a team of gumshoes who pad about asking questions of bizarre fruitcakes in order to resolve allegations such as: the Statue of Liberty was erected by the Illuminati and is riddled with secret 34

The History Channel (True Visions Ch.18) must have heard that because 90% of its output concentrated on the second world war, it gained the dubious nickname; ‘The Hitler Channel’. Things have now changed and although there remains a heavy bombardment of what went on twixt ’39 and ’45, a new raft of quasi documentaries and reality shows have been introduced into History’s easy to follow schedule where, four hours of programmes are shown six times daily- proving that History does indeed repeat itself.

signs indicating the evil intent of Freemasons, organising a New World Order. Shaky camerawork suggests a reality that is not there. Pregnant pauses suggest a drama that is missing. Meltzer’s conclusions are never conclusive. Asking sensational questions that are never really answered is his stock in trade so the product’s promise is never delivered. His biog states that he was born on April 1st. Hmmm.

Brad Meltzer

Ancient Aliens is a series that expands the theories of Erich Von Daniken who published ‘Chariots of the Gods’ in 1968, where he states, with certainty, that our humble planet was visited by extraterrestrials who drew the Nazca Lines, built the pyramids in Egypt and South America and enabled humanity to progress to sliced bread and the telly. A whole posse of dubious ‘experts’ who are confident that the aliens altered our DNA to suit their nefarious plans joins Erich on these shows that each have a two hour running time. Some even allege that WE are the aliens, seeded on Earth by ET’s. Since when was supposition, history?

Pawn Stars

and how much they might fetch in hard cash. Since the attics/barns/bloomers are all American, just a little over two hundred years old, the history is limited to baseball cards, film star autographs and old cars. History just ain’t what it used to be.

If history is anything that happened five minutes ago, then American Pickers and Pawn Stars, are history. Both shows are about what is found in the attic/barn/grandmas bloomers, 35

Liz Taylor- Parts Larger than the Whole By Brian Baxter

OUT at the movies A letter in the March issue of OUT described British-born Elizabeth Taylor, who died last month, as ‘surely the best friend gays ever had’. Certainly, she could - to coin a cliché - say that many of her best friends were gay (though unlike Judy Garland she never married any of them). Montgomery Clift, especially, her co-star in three movie said that she was the only woman whoever interested him, Rock Hudson, who was not given to such enthusiasm, Roddy McDowall, Sir Elton John and the - er - possibly gay Michael Jackson, among others.

having a tough time. And Michael J. who was tougher than he looked. Taylor was a talented actress too: in decent movies (they were scarce) such as Father of the Bride, The Comedians, Reflections in a Golden Eye, Suddenly last Summer and best of all A Place in the Sun, she was radiant and fine. What she needed was good casting, directors of the calibre of Stevens, Huston, Minnelli and Brooks to keep her in line.

Sadly, the eight marriages (two to Richard Burton), the extravagances and booze got in the way. But there are many fine actresses, few real stars and she was an echo of Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard: she remained big, it was the movies that got small. Actually, she outlived her time if not her fame. As always Oscar got it wrong, her first was for the tawdry Butterfield 8 and the second for the overwrought Martha in Who›s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? What she really deserved was a Lifetime Achievement Award or the Jean Herschholt award for humanitarian work. Still, she was made a Dame, though she was nothing like one in the conventional sense. Taylor was that remarkable creation, a person whose ‹parts› were far larger than the whole. She deserves to be remembered not only as our ‘best friend’ and as a survivor with courage but above all for those incandescent, violet eyes.

As for the work she did in relation to Aids, let’s recall that she was up there when it was called the gay plague, something which ignorant people still believe. She is credited with having raised more cash in support of her work there than any other individual. She was generous to other causes too and to people such as her ex -husband Michael Wilding for whom she secured an MGM contact when he was having a tough time. And of course Monty Clift who was always 36

Dear Frederick,

Ask Darika

Madame Darika I feel that your response to (the writer published in the April edition) is a bit off base and second rate and not dealing with the truth of the Thai culture. The writer is right on target in that most Thais are solely interested in Farang for their money. The interest for the Farang has absolutely nothing to do with affection, respect, admiration or need for a stable and long-term relationship, the interest is solely for MONEY. MONEY! MONEY! Every Thai acquittance (sic) has a problem that only Farang money can cure. They are not truly interested in friendship which is why the writer finds it impossible to have any true Thai friends. I have been a permanent resident for 10 years in Thailand and have made a heroic effort to develop Thai friends but in the final analysis, Thais do not want to be true friends as that would get in the way of begging for borrowed money of which the Thai has no intent whatsoever 38

of ever paying back. I know this from experience. And this condition spans all the social spectrum. Thais simply do not take responsibility for their own actions and forlornly stand and wait for a rescue from some dumb Farang. (How many times does their dear mother need bathing rites paid for with Farang money?) I am not bitter about this as I understand the culture and avoid the situation and live my life enjoying the benefits of living in Thailand understanding that Thais are well developed, well practiced and very cunning scam artists and liars. Your answer to the writer should have said that this condition is a fact-of-life in Thailand and to adjust to it. This would have been a more advantageous public service that beating around the bush with a lot of philosophical gibberish. Frederick

When Darika was only a child she had two aunties—Despina and Cecilia. They were sisters, both bright, and both quite beautiful. Cecilia always attracted guys who were destined to study at Harvard, were terribly handsome and oh so talented. When she finally married she and her perfect husband were on an endless honeymoon for more than fifty years. Despina was quite the opposite. She was soft-hearted and always fell for guys with problems. She loved to be needed. Unfortunately all three of her marriages ended badly. The first husband beat her constantly. The second was a notorious philanderer. The third was a dreamer and a drunk who put them into bankruptcy. Poor Despina eventually finally drank herself to a sad and lonely death. While your comments are shocking and border on racist, I cannot dispute the fact that many foreigners here get caught up with guys who victimize them, or at least offend them by being needy. I suspect, dear Frederick, that they are Despinas who are drawn to helpless young men who are easily conquered and controlled with generosity. There are plenty such disadvantaged guys around, and I am happy to know some of them because they have enriched my own life in one way or another. However, I know just as

many middle class Thais who are steadfast friends and who live in rock-solid, long term relationships. They work, have their own money and have the brains and strength to solve their own problems. It brings me great sadness to hear that you have lost ten years of your love life in Thailand, but I suspect you may have subconsciously encouraged relationships with guys who ultimately ask you for something. The resulting painful loss of coin or self esteem is, for some, a more potent elixir than love, as it may have been for Aunt Despina. One always has the option to say “bugger off” at the first sign of a pocket picking. Or perhaps you have been looking for love in all the wrong places. One is not likely to find a better class of guy hanging around in bars, go-go clubs or on beaches in Pattaya. In any event, it is a sure bet that the cutie you flirt with behind the counter at 7-Eleven is going to recognize the cavernous economic gap between you if you ever hook up. And it is unlikely that your mind will be on whether or not he will be pushing your wheel chair twenty years from now. Darika has become very weary of this entire subject, and this is her final word.

Auntie Darika answers your questions about love and life. Please contact her at: darika@out-in-thailand.com. You can also find more helpful advice on her website: http://www.askdarika.com 39

Exercise Wisdom

Learn from the professionals get a personal trainer, golf pro or aerobics instructor. Choose appropriate clothes and shoes as poorly fitting shoes can cause foot, leg and back injuries. Don’t Ignore Pain ‘No pain no gain’ is simply stupid; pain has a function informing you that something is wrong. If your muscles feel sore take a warm bath and rest a day or two. If the pain persists see a doctor. Be Supple: To remaining supple perform stretching exercises and mobilise your muscles and joints.

Warm up: A few minutes pre-exercise warming up is vital. UK sports researchers claim that warming up reduces the chances of injury and improves performance. Don’t Overdo It: Hitting the gym, football pitch or the tennis court after five days of inactivity is bad and it end in disaster. Little and often is more sensible than once a week binge exercising. Do not to go all out first time you exercise, let your body get used to exercising. 40

Remember RICE: Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. RICE reduces swelling, pain and inflammation. Wrap the ice in a towel or use a cold compress. If the injury is very painful see a doctor. Injuries are not always caused by a sudden event like a fall they often creep up over time. When injured stop exercising and get help, a life of painful joints or muscles is no fun. Hoping the pain will go away is not a good strategy because it won’t.

OUT in Bangkok B

Bangkok is the frenzied hub of Thailand. The Skytrain and MRT (subway) have made it much easier to get around, taxis, tuk-tuks, buses and motorcycle taxis are plentiful. There are many markets, glitzy malls, beautiful temples and museums, as well as the bars and shows for which the city is famous.

Recommended Attractions: • Jim Thompson’s Houses • National Museum/Wang Na Palace with its excellent exhibits for a slice of Thai history • Wat Arun for breathtaking views of Bangkok and Chayo Phraya River • Grand Palace/Wat Phra Kaew with its amazing Emerald Buddha, colourful mosaics and glittering spires • Wat Pho, Bangkok’s oldest temple and home of the Reclining Buddha • Wat Traimitr (Golden Buddha) Chatuchak Park Weekend Market, the most famous of Bangkok’s markets, where you can buy almost anything at amazing prices if you bargain Lumpini Park to relax and take a break from the chaos of Bangkok and to view the weightlifters in the early morning

The Bangkok Gay Scene Bangkok has a plethora of gay venues unrivalled in Asia. Most Foreigners go to Suriwongse, Silom and along Sathorn Road. Everything is within easy walking distance. Silom is the main gay area. Silom’s Soi 2, Soi 2/1 and Soi 4 are close to the BTS Skytrain (Sala Daeng) and MRT Subway Silom) stations. Silom Soi 4 offers a more relaxed atmosphere with its mix of clubs, restaurants and bars. Telephone Pub, The Balcony and Sphinx all serve food and some have ‘happy hour’ and monthly promotions. A two-minute walk from Soi 4 is Silom Soi 2/1, where local expats and Thai guys congregate for dinner and drinks at Richard’s Pub & Restaurant and later at G.O.D. nightclub. Silom Soi 2 features gay disco, DJ Station, for the hip crowd. An entertaining mini cabaret show launches the fun around 23:00. Facing DJ Station,

Expresso is a place to cool off and reenergize. Disco Disco is another party palace. Between Silom and Sathorn Road, there are several massage salons. Soi Duangthawee (“Soi Twilight”), between Suriwong and Rama IV Roads, is where most go-go bars with “special shows” are located. Stop in at Dick’s Café or Maxis Restaurant on Soi Duangthawee for some great food before hitting the bars. The world famous Babylon Sauna and hotel is on Soi Nantha (off Sathorn Soi 1). Lose all track of time in the sauna, steam rooms, playrooms, bars, restaurants, swimming pool, gym, hair salon, reading lounge and internet room. Babylon is extremely popular among Thais,

expats and visitors, so expect weekends to be busy. College-aged Thai men and business professionals go to Ramkhamhaeng (Lamsalee) and Kamphaeng Pet Road. These popular gay Thai areas are mainly Thai-for-Thai culture with different rules to those in Silom. They are not money boys nor looking for foreigners to date. It is worth a trip here if you just like to watch or have a date already. Soi 89/2 draws thousands of university students, working professionals, and those that just like a good time. The most popular places are Club 9 Café, ICK Pub, See Men, Crazy Dance Club, and Lamsalee Dance Pub. Although it is probably 98% Thai, the foreigners are welcome as long as they remain polite. It is an insult to proposition a patron with money!

OUT in Chiang Mai C

Chiang Mai is known as ‘The Rose of The North.’ Steeped in history, this ancient capital of the Lanna Kingdom nestles in bucolic beauty and is blessed with a milder climate than most Thai holiday destinations- a feature that attracts Thais and foreign tourists, especially for the February Flower Festival, Songkran in April, Loy Krathong in November and New Year revellers. Great retail therapy is available at Central Airport Plaza and the walking street market on the Rachamadoen Road, every Sunday.

The Old City, just 2.25 sq Kms, is guarded by a moat with floodlit fountains and remnants of the archaic red brick city walls that form a perfect square with gates at the cardinal points. The atmosphere is tranquil and the charms of cobbled lanes, countless temple courtyards and the distinctive Lanna architecture with its multi-layered roofs, are irresistible. Chiang Mai is known as the cultural Capital of Thailand because of the bounty of handicrafts, exciting arts scene, writer’s club, galleries and bewildering choice of restaurants, bars and live music venues. Gay Life The two main Gay centres are outside moat. The Chang Pueak neighbourhood, north of the moat is where you will find The Spirit House Restaurant & Bar that 54

serves Thai and western food, with a soundtrack of classical music and a collection of fascinating antiques, many of which are for sale. Nearby you will find the Circle Pub and Freeguy host bars. Adam’s Apple Club has a sensational show and a collection of beautiful guys above the sophisticated Metro Bar which is at street level. Just across the road is Lotus Hotel & Garden Bar, the first gay hotel in the city and an established Chiang Mai institution. On the Changpueak Road, The Playhouse Theatre is Chiang Mai’s newest attraction. This lavish venue showcases famous pieces from international musicals, performing art, and dance shows.

sonal service. Santitham is not far with many new eateries, guesthouses, bars and coffee shops, including Thai restaurant/guesthouse, Sabaidee Santitham. On the east side of the city, on the bank of the River Ping is Club One Seven which offers great accommodation, bar, sauna, pool and gym in a complex comprising two traditional Thai teak houses that feels like a rural retreat. Getting around Travelling around the city is easy. Choose from Thai tuk-tuks (negotiate the fares first), songtaews (red pickup covered trucks, with two rows of bench seating, patrol the main routes charging a flat rate of 20 baht per person within the city limits and longer journey fares negotiable) and yellow-metered taxis.

Niammanhaemin and Santitham has some of the most expensive real estate outside of Bangkok and a hip and happening scene of bars (don’t miss the very gay friendly Glass Onion), boutiques and coffee shops. Krits is a popular gay restaurant next to rainbow bar, La Vie en Rose- just off the Huay Kaew Road where you will find the Soho Bar and Guesthouse and SoupaSteak Restaurant/Darlings Wine Bar. For a work out or chill out, go to The House of Male is open from midday to midnight with pool, steam room, gym, friendly male staff, private rooms, bar and food. Tuesday and Thursday are ‘Buddy Nights’ where entrance is two for the price of one- very popular with students from the local university. Nearby is the long established PJ’s Place guesthouse, renowned for sweet and per-

OUT in Phuket P

Phuket is the quintessential tropical resort vacation, complete with exotic nightlife. There are international flights directly to the island, or fly easily and affordably from Bangkok or Pattaya Utapao. VIP buses are available between Phuket and Bangkok. There are virtually no metered taxis on the island so book ground transportation from the airport with you hotel. From Phuket airport to Patong in a private car direct to your hotel is 600 THB. You can find a shared minivan for less. Motorcycle rentals are inexpensive. In the daytime there are affordable busses. Most Tuk Tuks have a 200-baht minimum rate and motorcycle taxis start at 40 baht.

Phuket is one of the world’s most exciting gay playgrounds. Parasail, snorkel, play golf, ride an elephant, canoe in hidden caves, sightsee, take a Thai cooking school course, dance the night away, or just spend lazy days on the beach. Phuket is such a popular international tourist destination for people from all lifestyles; they are not necessarily all gay friendly, so use a gay tour company at your accommodation or use the OUT guide. Phuket Fantasea is a vast outdoor theatre with a huge cast. Voted “best attraction” for several years running by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the ticket price (up

to 2,250 including transportation and VIP seating) also includes a buffet dinner, cultural parade and street show. No visit to Thailand would be complete without a visit to a ladyboy show and in Phuket, Simon Cabaret, is recommended. One of the best views available from anywhere on Phuket is Promthep Cape near Nai Harn beach near Rawai beach, with a nearby restaurant for romantic sunsets. Elsewhere, the Big Buddha overlooks Chalong Bay, and is over 25 meters wide and 45 meters high, adorned with 135 tons of white jade marble. Phuket has great shopping, especially 65

in Patong. Sharpen your bartering skills with street vendors or check out the higher end offerings at the very modern Jungceylon Mall with its spectacular outdoor dancing water shows. Only a 20baht bus ride (daytimes only) away is another modern shopping mall in Phuket Town, Central Festival. Phuket Town is very quaint and filled with restaurants, galleries, and more. It feels very unlike Thailand but more like a quaint little “Western” town.

42 The Minotel offers 20 comfortable and air conditioned ensuite rooms in the centre of Patong. Its just 3 minutes walk to the beach or to the Paradise complex. All rooms have a fridge, cable TV and free wi-fi.

19 Sawasdirak Road, Patong Beach, Phuket 83150 Tel & Fax (076) 296654 Email info@minotelpatong.com Website www.minotelpatong.com

The epicentre of gay life on Phuket is on Patong Beach in the Paradise Complex, at the base of the towering Royal Paradise Hotel. A mix of gay and straight hotels and guesthouses, gay saunas, bars, cabarets, massage parlours, and guy shows, the Paradise Complex is a great place to hang out at night. If you book a room within the Paradise Complex, ask in advance about noise levels—most can offer you a room that is not on a main Soi. Paradise Complex has two types of cabaret shows: “Go Go clubs” and Discos. Much effort goes into the shows, so patrons bounce from one to the next. The oldest Go Go show bars are My Way and Tangmo clubs with other cabaret variations at Mamasan’s.

Go Go bars Dempseys, Boys & Boys and James Dean Bar are notable. The popular outdoor upscale “Beer Bars” as always packed. The most popular are Connect, Sundowner, James Dean & Friends. Chic, a stylish place converted to an openair lounge (where BB Boys used to be) across from the lovely Orchid Lounge, draped with Orchids, offers coffee, and snacks. For late night entertainment, try Kiss Club and Boat Bar. Both are Discos and have lively outdoor patios and free cabaret shows. Boat Bar is as friendly as they come, the owner is the host with the most, and the shows are incredibly moving, energetic and inspiring. The Backstage and Knud’s are recommended and superior accommodation can be found at the beautifully refurbished Club One Seven guesthouse and Restaurant. The Gay Day Tour is great fun, every Saturday. Revellers convene at 11:00 a.m. at the Connect Guest House in the Paradise Complex and then go by minivan and then speedboat to a Koh Yao Yai private beach, equipped with private fresh water shower and toilet. The price, 1,850 THB includes, beach chairs and umbrellas, plenty of food and an open bar.

OUT in Koh Samui W

With jungle covered craggy hills, lush coconut plantations, and quiet beaches, balmy evenings Koh Samui is the perfect place to kick back, recharge and of course party a little. Samui is Thailand’s third largest island with a Thai population of 50,000 an area of 228 sq km thus Samui is considerably smaller than Phuket, 570 sq km or Singapore 699 sq km.

Samui is a rapidly growing gay holiday destination especially for romantic couples where gay life is a relaxing, quieter, fun contrast to the exuberant gay life of Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket. As the spa capital of the region Samui is also the perfect place to indulge yourself in affordable massage and body treatments. For gay men the Emerald Green Mens Club in north Chaweng is the premier gay only destination for high quality, man 4 man massage and body treatments, they also provide their services in the spa at the super chic X2 Resort Samui, south of Lamai. The most popular way to get about on Samui is self-ride motorbike, rental cars are available and hotels can arrange drivers. Taxis are notoriously expensive but songtaew pick-up trucks are a cheap de facto public bus service. If you want a tour around Samui or go diving with 76

a gay guide, contact Rainbow Scuba & Tour. There is plenty of eye candy on the many idyllic beaches around the island. When you feel hungry there is a huge variety of places to eat, from top of the bill restaurants to cheap eateries and Thai market stalls. Check out eating options in OUT iT Magazine or on the website at the end of this article or cruise the Internet; your hotel will have a copy of the Samui dining guide. The center of gay day/night life on Samui is Chaweng. Most gay businesses

hang off the 3-4 kilometre long Chaweng Beach Road, so taking this road from the north end opposite the Nora Beach Resort is the Emerald Green Mens Club, Samui’s leading gay spa for quality massage and herbal body treatments. Further down the road in the main part of town, behind Starbucks is K Club, a lively small gay bar with take away staff. In south Chaweng is Boy Zone bar at the end of a soi opposite the Centara Grand Beach Resort, a bar with a gay/mixed crowd, take away staff and an 11.30 pm show. In the same soi is Tropical Fah Samui for gay massage, body treatments, facials etc. Samui has a Cabaret obsession with three clubs featuring Thai ladyboy and gay lip-synch performers. Starz Cabaret above the entrance to Khun Chaweng Resort pumps out a classy, fast paced show while just past the north end Starbucks is Christy’s the first cabaret bar on Samui, still going strong. Over the hill in Lamai Beach beside Fusion Club is Zodiac Cabaret and Tina, a ladyboy icon on Samui. All shows are daily, kick in about 8.30 pm with bar service and free entry. A short distance along from Zodiac and opposite Holiday Park Resort is Boys Bar Samui with pole dancing and take away staff, daily from 5 pm. If dancing, drinking and cruising is your number, remember Chaweng is a late hour party town. From midnight Thai and Farang gays head to Green Mango and Sweet Soul bars in central Chaweng for a diet of loud music, mixed crowds, no frills bar service, daily until 3 am. Out of town on the ring road close to Makro is Mekkala Men Spa an intimate massage business run by long established Samui resident, Khun AJ. A short distance further on

in Mae Nam is gK Men’s spa close to Bandara Resort for a range of massage styles and treatments. Pick up a copy of OUT in Thailand magazine at any gay venue for an accurate gay Samui map and venue listings. There are no gay hotels on Samui. There are a wide range of accommodation options from famous brand name hotels through to exclusive private villas or simple, Samui style bungalows and good quality, gay only, owner occupied B&Bsomething for all needs. Check out the options on the website below or search the Internet. OUT in Pattaya P

Pattaya has a bustling, vibrant scene 24 hours a day. Shopping starts at sumptuous malls- Central Festival, Royal Garden, Mike’s Plaza and The Avenue. For the Movies, cinemas abound. For dining, there’s a range of restaurants suiting all tastes and budgets, from local street stalls, to five star gourmet haut cuisine. Water sports include diving, jet skiing and parasailing. Try Go-karting or bungee jumping or a massage at one of the many salons. There are many gyms and exercise facilities.

Just some sample highlights around Pattaya; • P attaya Elephant Village has guided tours through the jungle on elephant back, ox cart, rafting, and much more. • Nong Nooch Tropical Garden has beautiful landscaped gardens and amazing panoramas. Don’t miss the French Garden and Orchid display. Also daily cultural and elephant shows as well as a charming zoo at this “Chelsea Flower Show” winning Garden. • Tiffany’s and Alcazar Ladyboy cabaret shows, both on second road, are a feast of glamour and glitz. Tiffany’s in particular is energetic and tours the world with its spectacular show. • The crystal clear waters of Koh Larn, are 45 minutes by ferry. This island, 82

the nearest to Pattaya of many, offers relaxation in the most tropical of styles. Gay Pattaya In the day time, you can play at the gay beach at Jomtien. Dong Tan Beach is a short ride from Pattaya. Here you can relax in deckchairs or on loungers, and be waited on all day. It is, however, in the evening when the city comes truly alive. The longest established gay area is Boyztown. Here, and in the adjacent Pattayaland, you can find a selection of 25 establishments. The illuminated sign of Boyztown is the adopted logo for Gay Pattaya. Boyz Boyz Boyz is the oldest and original male gogo bar in Pattaya and their show is a “must see”. The Copa Showbar has an exciting, twice nightly, cabaret show and a unique erotic underwater show. Funny Boys Gogo has

recently been voted the best gay venue in Pattaya. Panorama Pub at the end of Boyztown is the place for “watching”. The stylish Wild West Boys presents two shows nightly, and is not to be missed. The Sunee Plaza area, with almost 50 assorted establishments, is the largest of Pattaya’s gay nightlife zones. It’s a vibrant and energetic area with lots of fun and enjoyment on offer, whatever your tastes. The trademark neon sign of Krazy Dragon will lure you into the “Number one male table top dancing bar”. Mike’s Bar La Cage on Soi V.C. is now an institution, with its parties - one a week in high season. Corner Bar has been open almost as long as Sunee and now has an authentic “Texas” feel and offers Texan snacks. Wonderland, Sunee Plaza’s cabaret show bar has twice nightly shows at 10pm and 12pm. Often described as being “more earthy” than Boyztown, Sunee Plaza is well worth getting to know. The third main gay area, over the headland in Jomtien, is the Jomtien Complex. Here you can find a variety of gay bars, restaurants, and hotels. The Venue is the flagship hotel, and cabaret show bar, with regular new spectacular shows. Of

the many beer bars particularly notable are Question Mark Bar and Two Faces. Some of the bars also offer massage services and there are two specialist massage houses. You might like to try the newly opened Ganymede bar with its guest rooms above. Finally, for the true Night Owls, Pattaya offers a selection of world class late night discos. Dave Man Club and Nab are just two terrific venues where you can dance the night away, surrounded by super sexy Coyote dancers, until the wee small hours of the morning.
