FeastyFEST

FeastyFest has grown in the last 5 years to become Surrey’s largest not-for-profit food, drink and music festival, now seeing over 18,000 attendees each year. Crockford Bridge Farm - Weybridge

Crockford Bridge Farm is another excellent option for pumpkin picking. They have a lovely pumpkin patch where you can find pumpkins of different sizes and shapes. It’s a family-friendly farm with various activities for kids.

Priory Farm is known for its beautiful pumpkin fields and offers a delightful pumpkin picking experience. They also have a farm shop where you can find other seasonal produce and treats.

Naturally Thinking - Wallington

Pumpkin Picking on the Farm is an immense time of joy throughout October and the School half term, during the lead-up to Halloween. The pumpkins are all perfect for carving and are super growers; they have a great selection of sizes. Entry is free and there is no need to book, just go along and enjoy the day.

As well as growing pumpkins for pick your own, they also use pumpkin oil and pulp in their skincare products. Pumpkin oil is one of the most nutritious oils for your skin, providing moisturising and antiageing benefits. The pulp is used in their shower gel to provide skin softening and moisturising benefits.

Remember to dress appropriately for the weather and wear comfortable shoes, as pumpkin picking can involve walking through fields. Additionally, it’s a good idea to call ahead or check the farms’ websites for any updates or guidelines they may have.

15 - 17th Sepember, Banstead cricket Ground BANFEST

Held on the back field at Banstead Cricket Club, Banfest 2023 promises to be one of the best yet, with a great night of comedy on the Friday, headlined by the hilarious Chris McCausland. Then comes two days of music, featuring the best of local talent and a mixture of sounds from Ska with Ska Sonic, to Soul from Soul Rites to Sinatra and big band swing from The Vince Dunn Orchestra. Then come the headline acts. Saturday brings The Killers Kollective, playing all those Killers songs that we know and love, and Sunday brings a tribute to the biggest pop star on the planet, Harry Styles.

It truly does promise to be a fantastic weekend, all under a large marquee so not even the weather can spoil the fun. What’s more is they have reduced the ticket prices from last year. However tickets are limited so be sure to grab yours soon.

Only a handful of UK camera clubs can claim to be130 years old.

It can take some courage to set foot in a club meeting room as a new member, but the warm and friendly Kingston Camera Club members will soon make you welcome. With the everimproving quality of phone cameras, camera clubs are taking them more seriously. KCC welcomes new members for the 2023/2024 season starting on Monday 4th September.

A community celebration of the Surrey Hills landscape and woodlands

PumpkinCAKE

For the cake

• 300g self-raising flour

• 300g light muscovado sugar

• 3 tsp mixed spice

• 2 tsp bicarbonate of soda

• 175g sultanas

• Handful of chopped walnuts

• ½ tsp salt

• 4 eggs, beaten

• 200g butter, melted

• zest 1 orange

• 1 tbsp orange juice

• 500g (peeled weight)

pumpkin or butternut squash

flesh, grated

For drenching and icing

200g pack soft cheese

85g butter, softened

100g icing sugar, sifted

zest 1 orange and juice of half

METHOD

You will need 12 x round tartlet tins about 10cm/ 31/2 inch, some baking parchment and baking beans.

1. Heat the oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4. Grease and line a 30 x 20cm baking or small roasting tin with baking paper. Put the flour, sugar, spice, bicarbonate of soda, sultanas, walnuts, and salt into a large bowl and stir to combine.

2. Beat the eggs into the melted butter, stir in the orange zest and juice, then pour into the dry ingredients until well combined. Stir in the pumpkin. Pour the mixture into the tin and bake for 30 minutes, or until golden and springy to the touch.

3. To make the icing, beat together the cheese, butter, icing sugar, orange zest and 1 tsp of the juice until smooth and creamy, then set aside in the fridge. When the cake is done, cool for 5 mins then turn it onto a cooling rack. Prick it all over with a skewer and drizzle with the rest of the orange juice while still warm. Leave to cool completely.

4. Give the icing a quick beat to loosen, then, using a palette knife, spread over the top of the cake evenly. Sprinkle extra chopped walnuts on top for decoration. If you’re making the cake ahead, you can keep it in the fridge then take out as many pieces as you want 30 minutes before serving.

A seasonal alternative to carrot cake

Chinthurst were delighted with the findings of the Independent School Inspectorate who visited the school in February this year.
