R6 Narre Woori Yallock

Quote from Narre Warren’s Coach Shane Dwyer

Warren being the standout team all season, it was a matter of them waiting to see who their final opponent for 2022 would be with Woori Yallock and Wandin battling it out for the second time this finals series. As listed above, Narre Warren and Woori Yallock have played each other twice this season, both winning one game with the second contest between the two providing much more intriguing contest. Narre Warren by far have scored the most per game, averaging 22 goals a game, and had the best defence all year conceding a mere 7 goals per game. After finishing first and proceeding straight the second week of finals, Narre took care of Wandin, whilst Woori Yallock had a longer path, losing to Wandin, destroying Olinda Ferny Creek and then withstanding a spirited last quarter comeback from Wandin last week, escaping with a 9 point victory. League leading goal scorer Jake Richardson (71), who averages a tick over 4 goals a game and his partner in crime Will Howe, who averages a tick under 4 goals per game, and Trent Cody (2.5 per game), lead a formidable forward line which look likely to cause headaches for the Tigers’ defence. Whilst star midfielders Kurt Mutimer (39.7 disposal average (16 contested)) and Tom Miller will be doing their best two feed Richardson and Howe on a platter. Down back elite intercept marker Thomas Toner will be busy, as will Jesse Davies, Joel Zietsman and Matt Soroczynski. Woori’s goal sources are more spread out, with Zach Monkhorst and Joshua Neal averaging over 2.5 goals a game, with solid contributions all year from Josh Hawkins, Kane Thompson and Mitch Arnold. Gun Liam Odea (31 touches and 0.8 goals per game) will be vital for Woori’s chances as will Robert Allen in defence who averages 29 touches (24 kicks), whom had 37 touches against Narre in R6, and 145 ranking points per game. A few key stats, highlighting the similarities and differences between the two Grand Finalists are: Narre Warren lead Woori Yallock in Hitouts to Advantage by 10.7 (over double), Contested Possessions by 21 (111 to 90), Marks inside 50 by 9.9 (almost double) and total marks by 43.9. Whilst Woori Yallock narrowly lead Contested Marks (16.1 to 15.7) and intercept marks by 2.3 (20.1 to 17.8). Narre Warren have been the most potent all year and have the stingiest defence, also holding the title of the best contested team and therefore and will rightfully start favourites. You never know though as Woori Yallock did get the chocolates last time. That will mean nothing if they can’t pull off an upset here.

“After a long couple of covid years, I’m extremely proud of our group, the way they’ve maintained high levels at training and on game day, continued to work hard and now get a shot at a premiership. The entire club has done a fantastic job in getting to where we are. We’re looking forward to a tough and physical grand final against a very good opponent.”

“We probably deserve it, we finished second. Wandin were terrific in the final series but I thought all year we were aiming to play in a grand final once it all settled down. To get there is good for the boys, they’ve worked really hard, they are very resilient, and they never give up.”

“So good to get an opportunity against the yard stick of the comp, this reserve grade has come so far in such a short period of time and I couldn’t be prouder of this group, as for Sunday… Nothing better than being the Hunter.”

“2022 has been great to get a full season in & get back out playing footy. We are looking forward to a good match against Upwey & are expecting it to be a good hit out. They have been our toughest competition this year & we are hoping to re write the results of the last time we played in the home and away season. Thanks to all of our loyal supporters through the year.”

of the two standout teams, this contest is not an easy one to pick. It was one win a piece during the H&A season with both games going down to the wire, whilst the finals clash in week 2 was anything but that. In their most recent clash, Upwey Tecoma only managed the two goals whist Narre Warren had a handful of multiple scorers, headlined by Hayden Dwyer (4), Bailey Howarth (3), Nathan Power (3) and Hamish West (3). Whilst an uncharacteristic performance, this game should be a wake up call for Upwey Tecoma and one they can use to analyse and improve their game on. Narre Warren will look to get the balls in the hands of Hayden Dwyer, Bailey Mayworm and Bailey Howarth up forward. All of three of whom have been in the thick of the action all season, regularly appearing amongst the best players. Whilst for Upwey Tecoma, Connor Morton and Aaron Grenda will look to inflict scoreboard damage. This will be made easier if the likes of Liam Dunning and the McGills; Lachie and Tom are at their best. Narre Warren had the most stubborn defence all year conceding only 405 points, whilst Upwey Tecoma are second also conceding under 30 points a game. However Narre Warren have been the highest scoring team by quite some margin, outscoring Upwey Tecoma by roughly 20 points per game, who are the second highest scoring side. This match genuinely could go either way and judging by the season as a whole and the home & away matchups, this Grand Final should be an absolute belter.

“After a home & away season filled with injuries, struggling to get numbers on the park, playing most weeks with 14 16 a side with no bench, the boys finally ran out with a near full strength side and created our best victory of 2022 with a preliminary final win over Narre Warren. This win had been culminating with our recent form and the hard work/ perseverance that this group of young men has shown in the face of the adversity this year. In a season full of overcoming challenges, we believe there is no reason we cannot overcome our biggest challenge on Sunday in Upwey Tecoma.”

looked destined to make the Grand Final all season whilst Emerald had to fight their spot in this contest. And fight they did. The Tigers smashed Narre Warren in the second week of finals, doubling them, to secure a Grand Final berth, whilst Emerald narrowly defeated Mt Evelyn, Monbulk and Narre Warren, with all three victories coming by less than three goals. Whilst the round 18 match and the ladder positions suggest there is a reasonable gap between these two sides, Emerald has actually conceded less score this season than Upwey Tecoma and only average 7 points per game less for. Nullifying Zach Paull’s (4 last time they played) ability to kick goals for Upwey Tecoma could go a long way to Emerald causing an upset, whilst Ned Park Jerkinson and Zane Smith have been great contributors up forward for the ladder leaders also. On the other hand, Upwey Tecoma will be desperate to prevent Ben Lewis and Jack McGough from kicking bags, who are both capable, with the latter kicking 3+ on seven occasions this season. Some standout players this season for both teams include: Zach Paull, Heath Sartori and Joshua Wentworth for Upwey Tecoma, whilst Emerald’s best few include: Will Gazzard, Ben Lewis and Brodie Walker. Will the momentum of Emerald trump the class of Upwey Tecoma?

“Super excited about the big dance this weekend. I know how hard my boys have worked to get to this point after a couple of covid affected years, and so proud of the way they have got to the grand final. We have had over 30 players to pull on the yellow and black this year and they have all played a part in this journey! We are really keen to renew the old Yarra valley rivalry with emerald football club who are a really exciting team with a lot of players with senior experience and young future stars on the rise, who we've already had a couple of tight tussles with during the regular season and have been impressed by their final’s series so far. I'm tipping it to be the game of the day and a really tight and even contest across the whole ground, especially the midfield battle as I think that's where the game will be decided!”

Quote from Olinda Ferny Creek’s Coach Brie DeJong

Bronwyn Simpson will have her work cut out as Narre’s Erin Bell looms a dangerous threat (2nd in the league for points for) and scored 39 in their finals encounter. Whilst for Olinda Ferny Creek it is Hayley Howard (GS) who needs to be stopped (comp 1st) by gun Gabrielle Dwyer (GK). Captain Brittany Mashado (Jodie Chandler Medallist) in the middle (C) will be busy and another one to look out for is Jemma Osbourne. For Olinda Ferny Creek, as well as Hayley Howard, some real difference makers include, Taylah Werner(GA), Krista Tomlinson (C) , Brodie Smith (GD) and Holly Tauber (WA). The difference between the two sides all year hasn’t been enormous, however Narre Warren’s ability to the put the clamps on other team’s scoring abilities is of note, only conceding 608 goals in the H&A season, which is 101 less than the next lowest in Olinda Ferny Creek. The win/loss record on the ladder may exaggerate the gap between the two sides, as half of Olinda Ferny Creek’s losses in the H&A season were to Narre Warren and their finals encounter was reasonably close (50 45). Narre Warren will go in as warm favourites, but don’t expect this to be a one sided match by any means.

Narre Warren’s path to the Grand Final after finishing top of the table saw them defeat Monbulk in the second week of finals, giving them the first Grand Final spot, whilst ROC had to go the long way after losing to Monbulk, narrowly defeating Olinda Ferny Creek and the getting revenge on Monbulk in a comprehensive win. Narre Warren were comfortably the most prolific scoring team all year, scoring over 200 more than ROC, however the defences of both teams is rock solid. Summah Hinchcliffe and Mercy Ioelu sharing GS duties, lead a formidable attack with Tamika De Nardis vital up forward too as GA. Gun centre Kacey Maund (B&F) and WA Kate Dowling loom as big threats in the centre as Caitlin Egan (GD) and Alex Stephenson (GK) look to make it hard for pair Courtney Davey and Sidney Kneebone. Some other notable ROC players include captain Amy Jones, Bella Heppell, Elise Setches and Madison Airdrie. This looks to be a fairly even contest as both teams bat deep and aren’t reliant on the one or two players. Hopefully this goes down to the wire like their first encounter in round 9.

• R5 Mt Evelyn 25 defeated by Narre Warren 38

Quote from Mt.Evelyn’s representative Kaitlyn Black

Not many would have predicted Mt Evelyn to be playing of a C grade Premiership after the H&A season, but here we are. They’ve made an extraordinary effort to make it from 4th position; taking care of Pakenham, clinching a narrow win upset victory over 2nd placed Olinda Ferny Creek and then downing Wandin in the Preliminary Final. Knocking off red hot favourites Narre Warren won’t be so easy however, given Narre Warren comfortably beat them both times this season and average an extra 11 goals per game, whilst conceding four less per game. We know Mt Evelyn will be up for the fight, the question is how long can the go with Narre Warren for? Their last encounter was a 20 point defeat, however the majority of this margin was built in the last quarter, with Narre shooting 15 to Mt Ev’s 2. Much rests on gun Georgia Black (GK) and Jessica Hoskin (GD), both who have had great years, whilst Caitlin Hoskin (GA) and Rebecca Gorfine (GS) are a dangerous duo. Black and Hoskin will need to be at their best once again to stop Alyssa Hunter (GS), whom is the most prolific scorer by a mile this season, and Lauren Bechet (GA). Olivia Catrucco will also prove vital in this clash. Mt Evelyn have done well to make this far but Narre Warren look a classier side.

These two teams are by far the best two, three of ROC’s four losses have been at the hands of Narre Warren and Narre Warren’s only loss was at the hands of ROC.

Quote from Narre Warren’s Coach Robert Simpson

Quote from ROC’s Coach Bree Miller

“We have an incredible strong team this season and have consistently come up against quality sides, this weekend will be no different. Narre has always been our biggest competition and my girls have work exceptionally hard to prepare for the challenge ahead of them. Both teams will need to bring their A game and I’m sure it will be exciting from first to last whistle for everyone on and off the court.” NARRE WARREN VS ROC

Berwick 14

Quote from Beaconsfield’s Coach Kerryn Weickhardt

“After having a very successful year finishing top of the ladder it would be amazing to reward that with a premiership. It was great for the team to have a full season of netball after having time off from covid. I’m so proud of the team, their dedication, commitment, and determination this season has been phenomenal. It’s going to be a great battle of the creek match this Sunday!!!”

BothPreviewBerwick

“We have been happy to play all finals leading into the Premiership game. With a big win, a narrow loss and this week a sensational comeback to draw and win in double time, it is safe to say we have experienced all finals results and pressures. This week we meet our rivals from across the creek and it will be played in true “Battle” style. It is amazing to be here at this end of a great season and as a tight knit and skilled team we are set for the challenge.”

and Beaconsfield have been excellent all year and looked destined be the two to play off in the Grand Final. Berwick were no doubt that touch better during the season, however Beaconsfield did well to win their round 18 clash and only go down by 1 goal in the second round if finals to Berwick. Neither team can afford to be off their game is this match promises to be a nailbiter. Either team would be worthy victors here.

“We have put in a lot of work on and off the court over the last 8 months, so to see the girls make it to the grand final is so rewarding. I couldn’t be prouder of this team and what they have achieved all season. The grand final between us and ROC is sure to be a fantastic game, our semi final ended in double overtimes! Two skilled teams going head to head, it’ll be a great game to watch. I have full faith in my Wickers and know, no matter what, they will leave nothing on the court!!!”

In every aspect these two teams were the standout teams all season; scoring, defence, the ladder, you name it. Strap yourselves in because this will be a belter.

ThisPreviewcould be hardest one of the hardest matches to predict all day, or even all season. ROC finished on top of the ladder by an inch and defeated Berwick the first two times. The next two times, it was Berwick’s turn, with the final win sending them past the Prelim and straight into the Grand Final, and barring the first time these two played each other, the matches have been nailbiters.

As outlined at the beginning of the season in the Outer East Football Netball 2022 COVID Specific Competition Interruption by Laws, we have engaged the Ladder setup which has been used in our junior competitions since 2019, and other football competitions prior to that.

Promote clubs playing instead of forfeiting, with margins now not impacting overall seasons, simply the head to head record of the two opponents against each other.

Following two years of interruptions and cancellations due to Covid 19, Outer East FN has implemented a new tie breaker system for all competitions in 2022.

If games are cancelled due to covid and fixtures become inequitable, results of head to head games of teams competing for finals places or relegation take priority.

Minimise the impact of covid, including sides being impacted by unavailability’s, which would potentially skew percentage and ladder position.

How this system is calculated: Ladder Tie Breaker Process

• Finishing positions will be deemed a tie where; Two or more sides finish on the same amount of match points or, Two or more sides finish on the same Match Ratio (Games won/Games Played x100).

Three Team Tie (or more)

2. Greatest winning margin in games played between two teams.

The following procedure will be used in the following order until the tie is broken:

2. Greatest winning margin in games played between teams.

TheNotes:ladders in PlayHQ may show teams on the same points/match ratio in the incorrect positions. The OEFN will, in its best endeavours, ensure its clubs are aware of the correct ladder positions as we approach the finals series.

1. Win Loss record of head to head competition between the two teams.

Specifically, the aims are:

The purpose of this was to minimise disruptions from Covid, be those round cancellations, forfeits or weakened teams. The purpose of this change is to encourage all teams to “prioritise playing over results” and minimise the impact of covid interruptions to that fixture only.

Not every club has returned in the same shape as they were pre covid. The removal of percentage takes away the need for clubs to beat opposition by margins. Instead, now a win will suffice. This allowed the restructure for Div 2 to occur earlier in the year as results/Head to head could be used and no concerns of carrying percentage across from previous games.

3. Most Goals in games played between two teams.

Head-to-Head Ladders Explained

Two Team Tie

5. Aggregate margin vs. Highest ranked common opponent.

4. Aggregate margin vs. Highest ranked common opponent.

4. Win Loss record vs. Highest ranked common opponent (Proceeding downwards if necessary).

1. Best winning percentage of games played among the tied teams.

Instead of using Percentage as the Tie Breaker for teams who find themselves either equal on the ladder in points or match ratio, we will be using the Head to Head system in ALL Outer East Football and Netball competitions in season 2022.
