One Week at a Time

Lachlan Shaw

We’re two weeks into the season now at Outer East FN and already, we have seen a terrific round of matchups across the competition. The last round of games, before we broke up for the Easter break, saw some magnificent highlights across the competition, starting with the Match of the Round celebrations at Olinda Recreation Reserve. Woori Yallock appeared to have the upper hand over Olinda Ferny Creek for the majority of the match, that is, until the Bloods put on a superb comeback in the final quarter to get within range of the visitors. In the end, the Tigers kicked a matchwinner late in the game to get the four points to start the season. The atmosphere was much the same on the netball court, with the Bloods getting up by nine goals, despite a constant fightback effort from the Tigers. First time rivals Officer/ROC and Upwey Tecoma met for the first time ever at Starling Road, with the Tiger managing to get the win over the Kangaroos on the football field. Likewise, the tense atmosphere was replicated on the netball court, as ROC took a three-point win over their rivals.

It was also great to see local rivals Wandin and Mount Evelyn go headto-head for the first time since the formation of Outer East FN at the end of 2018, as the Bulldogs took the chocolates over the Rovers across senior football and A grade netball. The battle between Yarra Glen and Healesville was a great contest on the football field, with the Bloods holding on to secure a five-point win over their cross-town rivals. New recruit Joel Perry was a starred for Powelltown in its match against Warburton Millgrove, kicking eight goals including a matchwinner after the siren to secure victory for the Demons. This weekend, they will take on Kinglake for its ANZAC Round clash in an evenly matched contest between the top two sides of Division Two. The game between these two heavyweights will set the tone for the remainder of the year for its opponents when they eventually go up against them. The senior women’s football fixtures taking place this weekend sees a number of terrific matchups taking place, with the headlining match being the Upwey Tecoma v Olinda Ferny Creek game scheduled to take place on ANZAC Day after the senior men’s football game.

With both sides shaping up to be strong contenders throughout the year, captains Kiana Oates and Madeline Collins will be sure to have their sides fired up for this match and get the win as it will no doubt set the tone for the year between the two sides, and rest of the competition, for the rest of the year. As we look ahead to ANZAC round this weekend, all games are scheduled to be great matchups across the entire competition and everyone will be fighting it over one of the most sacred weekends on the football/netball calendar. But while the on-field/court contests will be great to watch, we cannot underestimate the importance of remembering the sacrifices of those who gave their lives at war to enable us to enjoy the freedoms we have today. Stepping onto a sporting arena to play over ANZAC Round, or on the day itself, is a prestigious honour. So make sure when you play this weekend that you do so with the same fight and determination as those before us and take a moment to remember the people who gave their lives for this beautiful country and the world we live in today. Lest We Forget.

Wandin strikes early against arch rivals

Lachlan Shaw

Wandin Football Netball Club got its season off to a great start on Sunday with wins in senior football and all grades of senior netball against archrivals Mount Evelyn, showing a good reflection of a strong pre-season campaign where the Bulldogs have worked hard to compete with the best in premier division. A strong, solid performance on the football field saw the Bulldogs beat the Rovers by 26 points while the women of the netball courts led at every break to take a 30-point win in the A grade match. The local rivals squared off for the Methven Professionals Cup, as part of an association with the Bulldogs, thanks to the support of directors Greg Earney and Liam Jackson who run the Mount Evelyn and Mooroolbark branches, where the Bulldogs were successful in grabbing the wins. The senior football match started off slow for both clubs with a strong wind favouring Mount Evelyn before the Rovers were able to shift the momentum from the second quarter and get themselves out to a sizeable lead which they maintained until the end of the game. The even spread of goalkickers is a representation of how well the forward line is structured with at least four great avenues to goal that can be relied upon, with multiple goals shared between Daniel Hirst, Patrick Hodgett, Clinton Johnson and Harrison Van Duuren a great example of this. Reflecting on the first win of the season, senior coach Nick Adam is pleased in his sides ability to get a first up win of the year to put them in

second on the ladder but is mindful of the fact there is more work to do as the year progresses. “Although it was Round One, we feel like we played two quarters of good footy which we were disappointed with,” he said. “However, the pleasing thing was we were able to shift the momentum back in our favour in the second quarter and then again later in the game to put the match out of reach, but we definitely need to play more consistently over four quarters if we want to test the top sides.” The first up victory is a reflection of a strong pre-season training program where the football department had good representation on track and worked hard. The program was designed to put the Bulldogs in a position where they could be the best version of themselves where this is currently being achieved but are mindful that it’s still a work in progress. The win against Mount Evelyn ensures the Bulldogs snare bragging rights against its archrivals early after four years of not facing off against one another since the formation of Outer East FN, which is also a reflection of the importance of community sport to the region. “We love playing against our Yarra Valley rivals because it has this different feeling to it you can’t ignore because there’s history there,” Adam explained. “Wandin is a pretty cool place to be when you have a local rivalry with another club and it’s particularly

good when you’re kicking the way of our redeveloped pavilion in the final quarter, and everyone is up and about. “It’s really good to be back and the community spirit is so good at Wandin and knowing we will get a full crack at it this year is pretty cool.” The performance of the footballers was also well reflected on the netball courts as all senior sides took the win against the Rovers. Despite the warm conditions and having to go through a long day, the A Grade side were solid and consistent all day as Brittany Tait was named best on court as part of the Professionals Methvens Cup celebrations. “To have the cup in our trophy cabinet this year is really good after a solid day of work for our sides,” said netball coordinator Penelope Harris. “We were probably a bit shaky with a new squad getting used to each other, new combinations and new players getting used to each other on the court, but it was great to see the girls pull together and execute what they were asked to by the coaches. “We are yet to see the best part of ourselves come through as we will come up against some good opposition this year, but the fact we ended the day with a ‘W’ on the board across all sides is a great way to start our year.” The Bulldogs will now use this twoweek period to continue its training program across football and netball and work hard in its quest for success in season 2022, as they look forward to its next challenge against fellow local rival Woori Yallock on ANZAC Day.

Belgrave netball court opening Lachlan Shaw

After five years of hard work and dedication, Belgrave Football Netball Club finally stood united on the same reserve on game day with the official opening of its netball court. The great support in numbers of people witnessing the occasion, as well as watching the football and netball action was a great sight where the vibe was fantastic. Club president Julian Schill was pleased to see all members of the club finally play at the same venue, as well as the smiles on people’s faces throughout the day. “It was incredible to see all the support with the grand opening of the netball court in a ma-jor part of our history,” he said. “It’s great to see families bring their children and not be separated as it makes a huge difference for us.

“If the vibe from what we saw on Saturday is going to be the same at each of our home games, then we are going to be over the moon.” 10 years in the making, but five years of actioning the plan, the Magpies have been well assisted in the making of the brand-new court, through $500,000 of federal funding from Hon Tony Smith MP and Deputy Premier Hon James Merlino MP who invested the remaining $100,000 required to finish the project. There have been many influential figures at Belgrave who assisted in getting the project up and running, but none more so than Melissa Davey who has overseen the development of the court from start to finish. For Davey, the fruition of her efforts in looking after the works from start to finish was seen in more ways than one, as she celebrated her 200th game for the Magpies that same afternoon.

“The amount of time and effort she has put in to get this project going is remarkable,” Schill explained. “Without her, we wouldn’t have got to the stage where we all play at the same venue.” Schill is appreciative to all members both internal and external to the club and for the part they played in developing the new courts at Belgrave. “We have worked closely with the Yarra Ranges Council to create what we have and it was an incredibly challenging project due to the surroundings and the work needing to be done,” he said. “I feel a great sense of pride now that we are more of a united club on the same venue and I couldn’t be happier. “But we are extremely grateful as this will bring our club closer together and increase female participation.”

Premier Division Football Week Two Review The Match of the Round contest between Olinda Ferny Creek and Woori Yallock for the most part, was a one-sided contest with the Tigers not allowing themselves to be pushed around by the home side in the first match of the season for both clubs. However, at three-quarter time, the Bloods found another gear within themselves to work their way back into the contest, kicking six goals in the last quarter to put themselves in with a genuine chance of snatching the game from the firm grip of Woori Yallock. As both sides fought it out within the last five minutes, it was the Tigers who managed to hang on to win by six points under the leadership of Kody Busoli and power forward Zach Monkhorst who booted four goals. Playing in its first match since making the step up into premier division, Officer got the good start against Upwey Tecoma to take a 20-point lead into half-time. With both sides making a nervous start, the Kangaroos lost control of the game in the second half, as the Tigers fought back to kick eight goals in the third quarter Week Three Preview Monbulk will get its season underway this Saturday when they take on Narre Warren for the first time on its home turf at Monbulk Recreation Reserve. Andrew Williams continues as head coach and John Hevern is the captain for the Hawks as they take its side into the premier division competition for the first time in Outer East Football Netball. Fresh from a two-week break now, given they started its 2022 campaign a week ahead of its opponents, Narre Warren will be hoping to make it two in a row for its ANZAC Round fixture. Local Cardinia Shire rivals Officer and Pakenham will meet again for the first time since 2019, as they look to get its local rivals up and about for the ANZAC Round fixture. Both sides are coming off losses to Upwey Tecoma and Narre Warren in their Round One clashes and will come into this weekend with the clear aim of getting the four points on the board. Doug Koop and Ash Green have both been training their sides hard over the off-season and will be keen to get their seasons moving along now and not go down in the clash of local rivals.

to give themselves a six-goal lead heading into the final change. The home side made a last-ditch effort with five goals in the final quarter, but were ultimately no match for the winners, as Upwey Tecoma took an 11-point win to put themselves in third on the ladder. Daniel Waters was a big influence with five goals while Bailey Oates, Jai Sheehan, Jackson Waters, Nathan Waterman and Keenan Hinton also featured prominently for the Tigers. Meeting again for the first time in four years since the formation of Outer East FN, Wandin and Mount Evelyn went head-to-head on Sunday afternoon as the Bulldogs took a round one win over its local rivals to put themselves in second on the ladder. After a slow start to the game, the Bulldogs put their foot down in the second quarter, kicking six goals to one to give themselves a handy 32-point win at half-time. Through the efforts of Daniel Hirst and Patrick Hodgett who kicked seven goals between them, Wandin maintained control of the match from there, finishing with a 26-point victory over the Rovers.

The first of two ANZAC Day clashes in the football space sees local Yarra Valley rivals Wandin and Woori Yallock go headto-head as they try to get the upper hand over the other. Both the Bulldogs and the Tigers are coming off Round One wins over Mount Evelyn and Olinda Ferny Creek and will be keen to continue the momentum into the season as they continue in its quests for success in season 2022. Upwey Tecoma and Olinda Ferny Creek are the second ANZAC Day matchup, with the contest between the Tigers and the Bloods shaping up to be a tight game. Fresh off its win against Officer, the Tigers under playing coach Stuart Hill will be hoping to make it two in a row to start the season against its local Yarra Valley rivals, while for the Bloods it’s all about recovery from a close, but tough loss to Woori Yallock in Round One as they look to get the four points on the board.

Premier Division Netball Week Two Review On the netball courts with the Match of the Round contest, Olinda Ferny Creek and Woori Yallock fought out a hotly contested game as the away team tried its best to stay in touch with the might of the Bloods. In the end, the Bloods set a new record for most consecutive games won in A grade netball with 32, eclipsing its own record of 31. Hayley Howard, Jackie Cutting and Holly Taubert were the goal shooters for the Bloods, scoring 28, 21 and 11 goals. Also stepping into premier division, ROC were in a tough fight with first time rivals Upwey Tecoma on the netball courts of Starling Road, with the Kangaroos hanging on for a two-point victory over the Tigers. In her first game as captain, Sam Neil showed brilliant on-court leadership to keep her side in front, albeit minorly for the entirety of the match while David Hare’s Tigers did all they could but were ultimately not able to leap ahead of the home side. Neil, Isabella O’Shannassy, and Mikaela Dakic got the goals for the home side, while Rachel Grawich, Week Three Preview With both clubs having enjoyed success in Round One, Monbulk and Narre Warren will go head-to-head on the netball court for the first time as they look to capitalise on early wins. The Hawks will be keen to put on a show for the local crowd on Saturday under the guidance of Christina Puopolo while Erin Bell’s Magpies will do everything in their power to ensure that the roar from the Hawks won’t get to them as they continue its pathway in season 2022. Just as it is on the football field, local rivals ROC and Pakenham Lions will also face off for the first time since 2019, with this matchup looking to be a competitive one as they try to lighten up the crowd on the Starling Road court. The Kangaroos took a three-point win against Upwey Tecoma in its Round One fixture, while a win against its crosstown rivals will make up for the Lions disappointment of losing its Round One match to Narre Warren. The first of two ANZAC Day clashes on the netball court sees Wandin and Woori Yallock go head-to-head as they fight to claim bragging rights over the other on one of the best sporting days on the calendar. Under the leadership of playing coach Ruby Tidd, the Bulldogs will be hoping to make it two in a row to start the

Jessica Black, Holly Nieuwenhuizen hit the scoreboard for Upwey Tecoma. Just as it was on the football field, the netball teams of Wandin and Mount Evelyn met again for the first time in four seasons, but it was the Bulldogs who proved to be the stronger side and took home the win come matches end, 71-41. The home side gradually built its lead as the match wore on with Abby Gedge and Chelsea Smith scoring 46 and 25 goals each while Rory Barr, Kaila Swindell and Kaitlyn Black all hit the scoreboard for the Rovers. Playing in premier division for the first time, Monbulk took a surprise victory against Beaconsfield at Holm Park in an early sign that they can be a competitive force in season 2022. The Hawks had its nose in front at every break with Tarnee Adams, Sophie Stubbs and Stephanie Puopolo hitting the scoreboard for the winners while Zara Treweek and Suzie Bourchier got the ball through the hoops for the Eagles. The final score was 38-34. season, while the Tigers will want to make amends for a tough loss to Olinda Ferny Creek in Round One and come out fighting once again in playing the home side. Upwey Tecoma and Olinda Ferny Creek are the second matchup of ANZAC Day, with the netball sides looking to match the intensity of their partnering football sides. The Tigers are coming off a narrow three-point loss to ROC in Round One while the Bloods enjoyed a nine-point win against Woori Yallock to start its season. With both sides looking the goods, neither will be wanting to go down in this matchup and come out firing once the whistle is blown to start the game. Mount Evelyn will take on Beaconsfield in the standalone premier division netball fixture on the courts of Mount Evelyn Recreation Reserve on Saturday, with both sides chasing their first wins to start the season. The Rovers lost by 30 points to Wandin in Round One, while the Eagles went down by four points to Monbulk in a shock loss. The motives for both sides this weekend are clear, as they try their hardest to put themselves back into premiership contention in season 2022.

THE BEST OF THE WEEKEND

Division One Football Week Two Review The clash between local rivals Yarra Glen and Healesville was in favour of the Bloods at three-quarter time before the River Pigs fought hard to get themselves back into the contest, eventually going down by five points at the full-time siren. The win sees Dean DeMunk’s Bloods team start the season 2-0 with Jesse Bates, Max Donegan, Sam Gebert and Jack Nugent sharing multiple goals between them. The River Pigs starred in defeat, with Charlie Wood snaring four majors while Lachlan Telford, James Whelan and Billy Gardner also hit the scoreboard for Yarra Glen. In its first match of season 2022, Gembrook Cockatoo came out firing against Belgrave with a 120-point win against the home side to place them on top of the ladder. Michael Firrito and Myles Wareham kicked seven goals each for the Brookers while Week Three Preview Seville and Yarra Glen will meet again for the first time since both were part of the Division Two fixture in 2019. The Blues have enjoyed two straight wins to start 2022 against Belgrave and Berwick Springs under the leadership of new coach Chris Murphy and will be out to stake their claims against the River Pigs this week in their quest to make it three in a row to start the season. For Yarra Glen, its hasn’t been the best of starts to the new season, but they will be out to do all they can to get its first win on the board for season 2022. Healesville and Belgrave will play on the grounds of Don Road Sporting Complex, as the Bloods do go out in their quest to make it three in a row to start season 2022 and eclipse its total win tally from 2021. Dean DeMunk has been a big influence on the young

Josh Tilly and Jesse Pantorno also snagged multiple goals for the winners. Ben Schultze, Caleb Crestani and Frank Didonato also stood up to be featured in their best players. Going up against each other for the first time, the match between Berwick Springs and Seville went the way of the Blues, as they took a 67-point victory against the Titans at Mick Morland Reserve. Ryan Farrow and captain Nathan O’Keefe starred up forward for the winners, booting five goals each while Phil Muscara, Mark Cecere, Jack Coshutt, Jack Nolan, Sonny Sanuga and Ryan Farrow all featured as the best players. For the Titans, Kayden Buselli was a force up forward with his three-goal effort providing something for the home crowd to cheer about.

Bloods thus far and a third straight win to start the year will do a lot to boost their confidence for the remainder of the year while for Belgrave, it’s about continued development of the playing list and hope to put in a competitive performance this weekend. Just like last year, local rivals Emerald and Gembrook Cockatoo will square off again for the ANZAC Round, with both sides fired up and ready to go. Under the tutelage of Sein Clearihan and Brad Coller, both sides have enjoyed wins to start the season and will be aiming to put on a show for the local crowd at Chandler Reserve. With Patrick Chin and Jordan Donadel firing up forward for the Bombers, and Michael Firrito and Myles Wareham going at it at the other end for the Brookers, this is sure to be an exciting contest for both sides.

Division One Netball Week Two Review The match between local rivals Yarra Glen and Healesville was a one-sided affair, with the River Pigs taking the win 56-19. Stephanie Gibbs, Lara Wandin-Collins and Skye Corrigan were the stars in up forward for the River Pigs with 25, 21 and 10 goals each while Jacqueline Hibberd and Chelsea Birchall also featured as the best players. Chenile Chandler, Brooke Erickson and Bek Breukers were the standouts for the Bloods on an afternoon they can extract a lot of learning from. Celebrating the official opening of its brand-new netball courts, Belgrave were competitive in its match against Gembrook Cockatoo but were unable to keep up as they went down 37-47. Georgia Donnelly, Krystyna Gabell and Catherine Smith shared the goals between them while Danielle Weisgerber also put in a great performance to feature in the Magpies best players list. For the Brookers, it was Rebecca Christie, Amiee Harkin and Chelsea Ingram who were the goal scorers while reigning league best & fairest winner Paige Ladner was also a standout. Week Three Preview Seville and Yarra Glen will both be looking for the goods in their match up this weekend, with both sides enjoying wins to start 2022. With the match taking place at Seville Recreation Reserve, the Blues will be hoping to not let the River Pigs get in the way of them on its home court and Carly McDonnell will be instructing her side to go out and try as hard as they can in their quest for victory. For Yarra Glen, meanwhile Brent Holtham will be hoping to make it two in a row this weekend, following its Round Two win against Healesville. Healesville and Belgrave appear to be locked in a tight battle on the netball court this weekend, with the Bloods and the Magpies hoping to get its first win on the board for the new season. Under the guidance of Jodi Chandler and Krystyna Gabell, a win for either side will do a lot to boost their confidence heading into the remainder of the season.

Just as it was on the football field, Seville got the chocolates in the A grade netball match with a 47-29 win over Berwick Springs. Returning to the side this week, star goal shooter Olivia Ray shot 22 goals for the Blues while Ella Morse and Ellie Dowling also managed to get some balls in the hoops for the winners. Emily Wicks and Erin Baker also starred for Seville while Jess Hoskin, Charlie Brocks, Laura Walker and Chloe Maas were the shining lights for the Titans. In its first matchup ever, Berwick and Emerald fought through a tight game to three-quarter time before the Wickers stretched its lead out marginally in the final quarter to take a 42-33 victory at Chandler Reserve. Olivia Macente, Emma Clarke, Danielle Hanley were the best players for the Wickers while Soleil Lehmann-Rhodes, Jazmyn Wray and Kaylah Loulanting were the best players for the Bombers.

Emerald and Gembrook Cockatoo will fight it out for ANZAC Round honours on the netball court and just as it is on the football field, this matchup looks to be a tight and enjoyable contest to watch. Michael Loulanting has enjoyed a good start to his campaign as A grade coach at Chandler Reserve and he will be hoping to continue the good form of his side leading into this weekend, while for the Brookers Shanae Ingram will no doubt have her side up and about for this game. The battle of local rivals Berwick and Berwick Springs is sure to be an entertaining match-up for this ANZAC Round, with the Wickers aiming to make it three in a row to start the season. With the two clubs meeting for the first time in the senior ranks, friends and close relations will come together for bragging rights in the Berwick region, as coach Jessie Hare tries to fire the Titans up against the Wickers for win number two this season as the away side.

Division Two Football Week Two Review In its first match of the season, Kinglake started from where they left off last season taking a 117-point victory over Broadford. The Lakers had multiple goalkickers throughout the day with Jed Tyrell, Damian Pywell, Mason McAllister, Jake McNamara and Ethan Robinson featuring prominently throughout the day. Jack Crowe, Matt Langford and Ben White also played well across the day to feature in their best players.

minute to go before a quick kick to Joel Perry inside forward 50 set him up for a kick after the siren. Through his experience with poise and staying calm, Perry executed the moment perfectly, slotting the footy through the big sticks for his eighth major to give Powelltown the win. Dean Roy and Jayden Fowkes were also multiple goal scorers with five and three while Mitch Bonuda kicked five for Warburton Millgrove.

Powelltown and Warburton Millgrove had a good fight throughout its matchup on Saturday afternoon where the Demons appeared to have the upper hand on the Burras for the majority of the march, until the last quarter came around. The Burras fought back quickly within the last five minutes of the game, kicking a flurry of goals to even up the scores with only one

Yarra Junction had a good outing with its win over Yea over the weekend with Sam Morton, Sam Cannon, Dean Eliades, Ewan Wadsworth, Cooper Holmes and Luke Spalding featuring as its best. Charlton Jenkins, Tyler Chisholm, Julian Mahon, Nick Gilbee, Bailey Nund and playing coach Will Schwab were the highlights for Yea as they continue in its rebuilding cycle.

Week Three Preview Alexandra and Broadford will face off in the first of ANZAC Round fixtures for Division Two this weekend, with both looking to get the upper hand over their opponent this week. The Rebels are searching for its first win of season 2022, following its Round One loss to Warburton Millgrove three weeks ago while for the Kangaroos, it’s about getting themselves back on track following a big loss to Kinglake two weeks ago prior to the Easter break. Local rivals Yarra Junction and Warburton Millgrove will go head-to-head for the second year in a row on ANZAC weekend, this time with the Eagles playing hosting duties to the Burras. Both sides have enjoyed ultra-competitive starts to the season, with the Eagles going down only marginally to Powelltown in Round One before a win against Yea the following week. For

the Burras, despite beating Alexandra in Round One, they will be out to make amends for a tough, goal after the siren loss to Powelltown and will be hoping to make the most of all opportunities this week. Just like the Eagles and the Burras, ladder leaders Kinglake and Powelltown will also play each other over the ANZAC weekend for the second year in a row, as both sides look to continue their strong starts to the season. This matchup, once again, appears to be a strong one and the Lakers under the leadership of coach Andrew Fairchild and captain Rohan King will be doing all they can to ensure they can make it two ANZAC victories in a row over the visitors. For Powelltown, a third consecutive win will do wonders for their morale as they progress through season 2022.

Division Two Netball Week Two Review Broadford have continued its brilliant start to season 2022 on the netball court, with a 50-21 victory over Kinglake to place themselves on top of the ladder. Ally Black, Renee Sari and Caitlin Hinrichsen were the goal shooters for the Kangaroos with 30, 15 and 5 while Amanda Rothwell also starred for the Kangaroos. In its first match of the season, Alex Mercuri, Matilda Withers and Amy Teodorovic were the best players for Kinglake. Warburton Millgrove had control of its match against Powelltown from start to finish, taking the win 51 to 36 at Powelltown Recreation Reserve. Bianca Daniels was again in strong form with Week Three Preview Over on the netball courts of Alexandra, the home side will play Broadford as they aim to get its season going this weekend with a win over the Kangaroos. Nicole Hadgkiss has been a good influence in her first year at the Rebels thus far, but a win over ANZAC weekend will do wonders for their development as a netball side leading into the rest of the season. For the Kangaroos meanwhile, a third win in a row to start the season will be an excellent result. Yarra Junction and Warburton Millgrove have enjoyed good starts to the year to sit in third and second respectively on the A grade ladder. For this ANZAC Round, both clubs will be very keen to

40 goals while Ally Langdon and Gabby Woods starred for the winners. At the other end of the court, Amy Stanley shot 28 goals for the Demons while playing coach Hayley Debuf, Olivia Caneva and Demi Barber were Powelltown’s best players. Yea and Yarra Junction were locked in a tight match up to half time, before the Eagles stood on the gas in the last quarter to run away as 30-point winners. Jess Ellwood and Claire Spicer hit the scoreboard with 41 and 14 goals while Rachelle Jones, Stephanie Ratcliff and Katelin Harrison were named as the best players.

get a win over the other to make their respective teams proud. Catherine Cook and Cara Moore will again look to extract every inch of performance from the A Grade line up this week, while for the Burras, Nat Petrucev will be hoping to make it three in a row to start the season. Kinglake and Powelltown are still searching for their first wins of season 2022, which makes this match up even more interesting to watch. The Lakers, under the guidance of Kathy Carden will be hoping for a good performance this weekend against the might of Hayley Debuf ’s Demons outfit where the battle of ANZAC Round supremacy will be strong in the minds of both clubs.

Captain Madeleine Collins and ruckman Chelsea Wilson were also shining lights for the Bloods, while the Blues will now have a bit to think about in its development as a football side.

Taking the field for its first match of the season, Upwey Tecoma took a 75-point victory over Pakenham at Toomuc Reserve in a win that places the Tigers in second on the ladder. The game between Belgrave and Yarra Junction was a forfeit and no match took place.

Week Three Preview The matchup between Yarra Junction and Thornton Eildon looks to be a great game to watch, with both sides evenly matched heading into this Round Three clash. Despite having to forfeit in its last game due to a lack of numbers, the Eagles will be hoping to come out firing this weekend under the guidance of David Spicer. For the Shinboners, a win will also do wonders for their confidence following a close loss to Monbulk on their home turf before the Easter break. The matchup between Seville and Yarra Glen is another game that looks to be a close encounter, with both the Blues and the River Pigs still chasing their first wins of season 2022. Despite some tough losses to start the season, Geordie Scott will have his side fired up as they go for an opportunity for victory early in the season. For the River Pigs under the guidance of Glenn Murray, they will be hoping to continue its development in a more even contest this weekend. The matchup between Monbulk and Pakenham is also shaping up to be a great game, with each side having already enjoyed wins to start the season. Monbulk are coming off a win against Thornton Eildon before the Easter break, while Pakenham will

be looking to bounce back following a big loss to Upwey Tecoma in Round Two. Sasha Wolfe and Rick Stalker are doing brilliant jobs in each of their first seasons in charge of the women’s football sides at their respective clubs and will be hoping to carry it into this weekend. Playing on Saturday afternoon, Healesville and Belgrave will battle it out for another win this weekend, with Mitch Hay’s Bloods side aiming to maintain its spot on top of the ladder following a big win over Yarra Glen in the last round. The Magpies have not taken the field in three weeks, following the forfeit of their opponent in Round Two, and will be fresh for its match up this week. The highlight of the women’s fixture this weekend is the matchup between Upwey Tecoma and Olinda Ferny Creek, who will play on ANZAC Day following the senior men’s football match at the Dome. Both sides are off to a flyer in season 2022 to sit in second and third on the ladder and each will be hoping to continue the momentum on one of the most important days of the sporting calendar.
