One Week at a Time
Lachlan Shaw
As we faced a second week in a row of average weather across the region, our players bravely strapped on their boots and runners, and took to the footy field and netball court where we saw further great results. As Yarra junction travelled to the Murrindindi Shire to take on ladder leaders Kinglake, it came as a great surprise to see the Eagles give the Lakers a reality check when they handed them with a 16-point loss. To the Eagles credit, however, they were deserving of the win and it came at the good time as they moved into third on the Division Two ladder in the process.
with ROC fighting back in the final 15 minutes to get a five-goal win against the Bulldogs. In Division One, Berwick Springs made it two in a row when they secured another big win against Belgrave, while Gembrook Cockatoo continued on its merry way in beating Yarra Glen, and Emerald moved into second on the ladder with a win over Healesville. In the women’s football ranks, Healesville failed to kick a goal in its first defeat of the year when they were beaten by Upwey Tecoma, despite going down by 23-points.
Another suprise outcome saw Woori Yallock go down for its first loss of the season when Monbulk got the better of them on their home deck.
It was a terrific sight to see Thornton Eildon put in a solid, consistent performance to grab its first win of the season over the weekend, beating Seville who travelled into the country to play them.
The Hawks were prolific, working their way back into the contest in the second half and take the lead, with powerhouse midfielder finishing up with a massive 49 disposals and one goal for his valliant efforts.
For the third weekend of May, all eyes will be on Kalora Park for the Match of the Round contest between Narre Warren and Woori Yallock, who are situated in first and second of the premier division ladder.
Another clash in premier division saw Officer go down to Wandin on the football field, but the tide turned for the Kangaroos on the netball court,
Despite its loss last week, the Tigers will have moved on quickly when Saturday comes around as they will need to be on their toes for the entirety
of the match if they are to knock off the Magpies. First time rivals Olinda Ferny Creek and Officer/ROC will go head-tohead for the first time, while the games between long-time competitors Monbulk and Wandin are expected to be a great contest. In Division One, Seville will return from its bye and take on Healesville with the aim of continuing from where they left off while Berwick Springs will host Gembrook Cockatoo. The headline match in Division Two is Alexandra and Kinglake, where it could be on for young and old as they try to exert their dominace over the other. In fact, the Murrindindi Shire will be hosting a big day of OEFN community sport with the Yea Showgrounds now the host of a ‘Super Saturday’ event that sees the Broadford and Yea netball home games combined to the one venue and play alongside their football buddies, who will host Powelltown. It’s expected to be a magnificent day of sport for the region and we cannot wait to see the small town of Yea light it up and see some sporting activity occur in the area.

Pakenham on a roll with four wins on the trot Pakenam Football Club are on a roll, with four wins on the trot since its Round One loss to Narre Warren, to position themselves as one of the teams to beat in premier division. Strong performances over the last month have seen them knock off Officer, Olinda Ferny Creek, Mount Evelyn and Upwey Tecoma since the Easter break, where accountability and an emphasis on moving the ball quickly have been at the front of senior coach Ash Green’s philosophies. “The instruction to my players has been to keep the game very basic,” he said. “My role as senior coach is to make sure they are continuing their development, whether that be marking, kicking or running. “I am fortunate to have a great bunch of guys who listen and want to improve not only as footballers but the club as well.” The Lions are fortunate to have both the reserves and under 19’s sides up and about too, with players ready for their shot in the senior side when the opportunity presents itself.
“There’s pressure from underneath with players knocking on the door to get a go in the seniors which keeps my players honest with their performances and making sure they’re on top of what they need to do,” Green explained. “We have one eye on winning and another on making sure we get some good development in not only our kids but the wider group aswell. “There is an opportunity for players across the club to get a go in the seniors, but when my group are playing well and winning, it can be that little more difficult.” The restructure of premier division has provided positive challenges for clubs who compete within it and the Lions have enjoyed the contests against its opposition but are still working out their capabilities. For that, Green is under no illusions that his club need to continue improving if they are to remain relevant and a leading contender against its rivals.

but instead we’re continuing to make tracks,” he said. With a bye this weekend, the Lions will keep things as normal as possible but are conscious not to take its foot off completely for the fear of it working against them. While sore bodies will take it easy and rest where possible, Green will keep his players focussed and ensure they remain focussed and motivated, ready to go when they play Wandin in Round Seven. “I don’t believe a lot will change when we return from the bye,” Green explained. “I believe one of our strengths as a team is the flexibility of being able to play in different positions. “It’s about making sure we do the little things right, improve the things we aren’t doing so well on and rectify them when we return in a couple of weeks.”
“Our opponents are working as hard as we are to improve, so we’re not sitting back and getting comfortable,

Seville netballers the leaders in Division One with Berwick win Lachlan Shaw
The netballers of Seville have enjoyed a great start to season 2022 across all five teams where the clear highlight of its campaign so far has been its defeat of top-placed Berwick in A Grade, whom they met for the first time.
The success of the remaining squads at Seville sees B Grade sitting in second with five wins, on top in C Grade with six wins, fourth in D Grade with three wins and the 17 & Under squad sitting in second with five wins.
night, as well as many of its players taking part in VNL or development squad commitments, where the aim is to keep them motivated and active as they tackle the remainder of the season.
The terrific start has come off the back of a strong pre-season training program where a great amount of depth is present across the squad.
The 17’s squad have settled into the culture well at Seville with coach Michael Priestley developing them into a formidable side, where some individuals have received an opportunity to step into a senior team when called upon.
With the Blues hosting a Ladies Day this weekend, it is hoped that many of the netballers will come together on Saturday morning to watch the 17 & Under squad take on Healesville and then hang around afterwards to socialise.
“It’s been great to have them fill those gaps when needed as it’s great for their development,” Tucker explained.
Looking ahead to the remainder of the season, Seville have its eyes firmly focussed on the potential of making finals come September but will also look to provide opportunity for players to get a go in higher grades where possible.
Despite poor conditions weather-wise where it rained on and off, the Blues held its ground against the Wickers and put in all the work they needed to get the job done. “It was certainly nice to chalk up the win in our first matchup against Berwick,” said Netball Coordinator Sue Tucker. “It might be a bit more intense when we play them next time, but I feel like we have a solid team that have a strong chance of coming away with some success at the end.”
“We have been trying to give them as much opportunity with the aim to have them stick around into the future when they become full-time senior players.” A bye is what’s ahead for the Blues this week, but there won’t be much rest as training will go ahead on Thursday
“It will be about keeping on top of their performances to ensure they can stay in the team,” Tucker said.

Premier Division Football Week Six Review Playing at home for the first time this season, Pakenham took a big win against Upwey Tecoma to continue its strong run of form over the last month. Despite a slow start to the game with a threepoint margin at three-quarter time, the Lions went up a notch from there kicking five goals to one in the second quarter and continued to build its lead as the match wore on, with eight goals to three in the second half. Despite its dominance after quarter time, the Lions wasted several opportunities to win by a bigger margin, as they finished with a score of 15.18-108. Cameron Debruin was the leading goalkicker with three majors while Liam Beacom kicked two for the Tigers. Much like the game at Toomuc Reserve, Wandin and Officer were on even terms in the first 25 minutes, the Bulldogs taking a nine-point lead into the first break. From there, the home side stepped up to kick seven goals to none in the second quarter, effectively wrapping up the game by half-time. The Kangaroos put in a better performance in the second half to kick seven goals but were ultimately no match for Wandin as they took a 68-point win. Despite the wet conditions at different points throughout the afternoon, the Bulldogs will work on their scoring conversion in front of goal this week when they return to training given they finished with a score of 19.22.136. Patrick Hodgett and Clint Johnson kicked four majors each while Anthony Willenberg booted three goals for Officer.
Ladder leaders Narre Warren were too good for Mount Evelyn when they travelled to the Yarra Valley to meet with their opponent for the first time, taking a 112-point win on a wet Saturday afternoon. The Magpies put in a consistent performance all day with an average score in each quarter of 45 points to build its lead throughout the game for what was a terrific team performance. The standout individual performances came from the likes of Will Howe, Jake Richardson and Kurt Mutimer who finished with seven, six and four goals to their name while Tom Miller, Declan Brown and Mitch Tonna were also named as their best players. On a tough afternoon for the Rovers, Michael Gibbons and Callum Urquhart tried their hearts out, kicking three goals each. One of the big surprises of the weekend occurred in the upper Yarra Valley region with Monbulk defeating Woori Yallock by seven points to snap its unbeaten streak they held from the start of the season. With the momentum of the game swinging the way of each side, the Hawks were down by seven points going into the last break but worked hard to get themselves back into the contest, kicking five goals to three in the final 25 minutes snatch the result away from the Tigers. Taylor Joyce was a big influence for the Hawks up forward, finishing with four majors while Jude Hay and Josh Neal were big at the other end of the ground for the Tigers, sharing five goals between them.
Week Seven Preview Currently last and third last on the ladder, Mount Evelyn and Upwey Tecoma will have the aim of victory clearly in their sights this weekend when they go up against each other on the Rovers’ home deck. Coming off a bad loss to Narre Warren last week, the Rovers will be keen to get its first win on the board for 2022 to prove trhey can still remain relevant against its rivals, but the Tigers will be feeling exactly the same way following its loss to Pakenham where they were not able to keep up with the Lions last Saturday.
Appearing to be evenly matched on paper, Monbulk and Wandin will go hard at it this weekend to continue building some momentum into the season with the Hawks searching for its third win and the Bulldogs looking for its fourth. Both sides have performed well to date, but in a game where local rivals will want to get one up over the other, the result could go either way and a winner is hard to pick. As such, captains John Hevern and Tom Hinds will be sure to have their squads up and about for this all important contest.
The match of the round contest between top-placed Narre Warren and second-placed Woori Yallock is set to be a cracking game between two sides that have proven to be the standouts in premier division so far. The Magpies are up and about, following its big win over Mount Evelyn last week while the Tigers are looking to bounce back following its first loss of the season to Monbulk last week. Narre Warren with its clan including the likes of Trent Cody, Jake Richardson, Kurt Mutimer and Tom Miller will look to continue its dominance in premier division with a win, but the Tigers of the Yarra Valley have plenty of talent up its sleeve too which means this could be an arm wrestle.
Returning after a bye last week, Olinda Ferny Creek are refreshed and ready to go for a home clash against first time rivals Officer this week where the aim for the Bloods is to build from earlier wins against Upwey Tecoma and Monbulk and climb up the ladder. The focus for the Bloods over its bye weekend was to rest and recover, but remain focussed to ensure they can mount a challenge to its rivals over the next eight matches before they get an opportunity to rest again. For the Kangaroos who have had a tough start to the season, it will be all about trying to get some confidence back and mount a challenge against its opposition to ensure it’s a great game to watch.

Premier Division Netball Week Six Review Pakenham Lions have grabbed their first win of season 2022 with an 18-goal victory against Upwey Tecoma on the courts of James Bathe Reserve. As the Lions controlled the game from start to finish, it was Mia Washington, Emma Jones and Caitlin Cooke who were judged as the best on court for the Lions, Washington herself finishing with 22 goals while Teah Edelmaier, Rachel Grawich and Charlotte Davies all put in their best efforts for the Tigers on a tough afternoon. Despite being in front at every break, Wandin lost the lead in the final 15 minutes of its match against ROC, losing by five goals in what was a tough loss. Steely determined in its comeback to hit the front, the best performers for ROC came from the likes of Keeley Burgmann who shot 29 goals with great assistance from Sam Neil and Mikaela Dakic who were also named as their best players. For the Bulldogs, it was Emmalia Blake who was the leading goalshooter with 28 majors while Kali Dolphin, Maddy George and Madi Rouget starred for the home side. The matchup between Mount Evelyn and Narre Warren was a great spectacle for those who turned out at Mount Evelyn Recreation Reserve, but it was the Magpies who came away with the four points, keeping their noses in front by a slim margin for the entirety of the match to finish with a seven-goal victory. With regular goal shooter Erin Bell missing from the action, it was Week Seven Preview With both sides coming off a loss last week, Mount Evelyn and Upwey Tecoma will be looking for a great contest when they go head-to-head this week. With the Rovers sitting in fifth on the ladder with two wins and the Tigers in last with one, both are keen to build some momentum for the remainder of the season in an effort to climb up the ladder and remain relevant to its opposition. Kaitlyn Black will be doing all she can to ensure her ladies don’t let this one slip up, while David O’Hare’s girls will be ecstatic if they could pull off its second win for the year. Just like as it will be on the football field, the match of the round contest on the netball court is expected to produce the same excitement with the talented women of Narre Warren and Woori Yallock to match up for the first time in 12 months. Undefeated in its campaign so far, the Magpies will simply be looking to continue on its merry way with the strong form they have produced. While for the Tigers who secured its first win of the season last week, their ladder position is not a true indication for where they’re at, for they have been very competitive in a number of games this season which have included close losses to Olinda Ferny Creek and ROC who sit in the top three. As such, the broadcast game of the weekend is tipped to be a beauty which will have Erin Bell and Mia Sudomirski & Alana McGurgan up and about for this contest. Meeting again for the first time since the formation of Outer East FN, Monbulk and Wandin will be looking to put on a good show
Chelsea Tonna and Jemma Osborne who stood up in her absence as they shot 17 and 13 goals respectively while Gabrielle Dwyer and Brittany Lamont were the best players. For the Rovers, it was Kaitlyn Black, Jacqui Black and Kaila Swindell who were best on court. Woori Yallock have grabbed its first victory of season 2022 with a tight four-goal win over Monbulk on the courts of Don Road Sporting Complex in Healesville. In front for most of the match, the Tigers were deserving winners as they worked together throughout the game to keep their noses in front, as Elizabeth Murphy and Mia Sudomirski shared the goals between them. For the Hawks, it was Nicole Macdowell and Sophie Stubbs who put in their best efforts all day while Stephanie Puopolo finished with 37 goals. Travelling down the hill to Holm Park, Olinda Ferny Creek took a big win over Beaconsfield with the final score showing 54-23. In a dominant performance where they fielded some players from its B Grade squad, the Bloods put in a good team performance where they worked well together across the day to produce the big score come the end of the day. Krista Tomlinson and Jessica Horner were the best on court for the Bloods while Hayley Howard shot 44 goals.
for the local Yarra Valley crowd with both showing signs of good form in 2022. Despite the A Grade line-up looking really good so far and being in some really close games, Monbulk have been unable to build from its round one victory over Beaconsfield which means this matchup is an important one for them if they are to remain in touch with those above them on the ladder. For the Bulldogs, who currently sit in fourth with four wins. A win is exactly what they need if they are to retain its spot on the ladder. In what is tipped to be a fantastic contest up in the Dandenong Ranges, Olinda Ferny Creek and ROC will go head-to-head for the first time as they search for bragging rights at the conclusion of the match. Typically, two very good sides and sitting in second and third on the ladder, both have been rusty in some areas of its game plan since returning for season 2022, even despite still managing to put the wins on the board. As such, this game is expected to go down to the wire and with the likes of Krista Tomlinson and Sam Neil in full flight, the result can go either way. Local rivals Pakenham and Beaconsfield will also go head-to-head for the first time since the formation of Outer East FN at the end of 2018, where the contest is expected to be very intense. Sitting in seventh and nineth on the ladder, both will be looking to get another win to try and move themselves up the ladder which means the contest between two old rivals could go right to the very end.

THE BEST OF THE WEEKEND
Division One Football Week Six Review Berwick Springs have made it two in a row with a 63-point win over Belgrave that pumped up its confidence levels further. Tom Nelson was the sharpshooter in front of goal with four majors but was closely joined by his teammates on the scoreboard with three each to Corey Green and Blake Simondson. With the Titans controlling the match from start to finish, they were well led by the efforts of Riley Hillman, Jayden Malek, Dysan Morris and Jarrod Hocking who were named as the best players. For the Magpies, it was Cal Stirling, Jayden Wood, Daniel Bennett, Brad Raaymakers, Aaron Johns and Byron Finnegan who put in their best efforts to be named best afield. Emerald had the upper hand in its match against Healesville with a 56-point victory in the wet at Don Road Sporting Complex. In a match where the Bombers were in control for its entirety, Jordan Donadel, Dale Karacsoyni, Jarrod Donders, Callum White and Kieren Burns put in their best efforts for the Bombers to be named as the best on ground while Patrick Chin was an influence again in front of goal with four majors. For the Bloods who
struggled to get going and lost all touch with their opponents, despite finishing better with three goals in the final quarter, they were well held up through the efforts of Dale Senior, Shaun Donkin, Tennyson Amarant, Cameron Nyko, Campbell Frazzetto and Will Kristelly-Kelety. Gembrook Cockatoo continued to put its foot down in stamping themselves as a quality team in Division One, with a big win over Yarra Glen in wet conditions on a Saturday afternoon. Despite both sides starting slow in the first quarter, the Brookers took the momentum from there to maintain a five-goal buffer for two quarters before extending the lead again in the final quarter to finish with a 41-point win. Again, the Brookers had some prominent figures in front of goal with Jay Verhagen booting six majors while Myles Wareham finished with five goals. For the River Pigs who bounced back well after a big loss to Berwick Springs last week, they were well represented with Nathan McCulloch, Jason Godfrey, Sam Wood, Marcus Kikidopoulos, Sam Horsley and Jayden Schille starring as their best.
Week Seven Preview Sitting in second spot on the Division One ladder, Emerald will be looking to maintain this position with a win over Belgrave this week where the Bombers will be hosting at Chandler Reserve. Emerald have performed well so far in 2022 and with its most recent win coming against Healesville last week, they are appear to be genuine contenders with respect to the rest of the competition. For Belgrave, who had another big loss to Berwick Springs last week, they will be hoping for continued development for its squad this week. Refreshed after a bye last week, Seville will be out to land another blow to Healesville’s campaign this week when they host the Bloods on its hallowed turf at Seville-Monbulk Road. Clearly the most dominant side in Division One, the Blues are in a destiny of its own at the moment where the team is working well together,
the stars are playing well and everything falling into place as hoped in the pre-season, so another win is expected this week. However, the young guns of Healesville will put up a fight and do all they can to put a stop to the dominance of Seville. Hosting on its home deck this weekend, thanks to a fixture change, Berwick Springs are aiming for the hard task of notching up three wins in a row when they face the travelling Gembrook Cockatoo. Dominant over the last two weeks against Yarra Glen and Belgrave, the Titans of Casey are riding a wave of confidence and will bring this into this matchup. For the Brookers who are currently in third on the ladder, another win would be a fantastic result when they travel into the housing estates of Grices Road to keep its momentum going.

Division One Netball Week Six Review Belgrave grabbed win number three of the season in its matchup against Berwick Springs over the weekend, beating the Titans 47 to 26. Playing on their brand-new netball courts for the second time, the Magpies performed with great pride in its quest to claim its first victory on its new court which brought great excitement to the home crowd. Ashlee Murphy was the leading goal shooter with 39 majors while Anna Carroll and Amy Robinson were named as best on court. A close matchup between Yarra Glen and Gembrook Cockatoo was a great contest, with the River Pigs overturning a two-point deficit at half-time to hit the front and eventually win by five goals. Stephanie Gibbs was dominant in front of goal again as she scored 29 majors while her teammates in Jacqueline Hibberd and Lara Wandin Collins were regarded as the best players. For the Brookers, who are struggling to get a good run at it in the A grade Week Seven Preview
The netballers of Emerald and Belgrave are expected to put in a tough fight on Saturday afternoon when they go head-to-head on the courts of Chandler Reserve as they fight to get the upper hand over the other. With three wins each, both sides are evenly matched up which means a winner is hard to pick at this point but under the coaching of Michael Loulanting and Krystyna Gabell, neither will be willing to give in against one another which sees this contest shaping up to be a good one. Sitting in last and second last on the ladder, Berwick Springs and Gembrook Cockatoo will do battle on the courts of Mick Morland Reserve where the aim will be to get a win and make improvements to move further up the Division One ladder. Under Shanae Ingram, the Brookers haven’t been able to replicate the good form they had in 2022, so a potential win against the Titans
competition, another loss was hard to absorb and they will work hard to turn things around to get themselves back on track if they are to be contenders later in the year. The matchup we have all been waiting for between first and second on the ladder, Berwick and Seville, both of which were undefeated finally took place over the weekend, with Blues taking a superb victory on its home court. Despite closing the margin back in the final quarter from eight goals to put themselves in with a shot of potentially overruling the home side, the Wickers couldn’t quite pull it off come the final siren and will settle for second on the ladder. Gabrielle Duncan, Erin Baker and Emily Wicks were the best for Seville on a great afternoon while Emma Clarke, Kyla Quinn and Olivia Macente were the shining lights for Berwick.
will be a good way to start the process of potentially turning things around for the season. For the Titan ladies who have been undermanned with playing coach Jessie Hare missing from the line-up, this will be their opportunity to claw back some ground on its rivals on the ladder. Berwick and Yarra Glen will meet for the first time in its history, with the Wickers keen to move away from the disappointment of losing the top of the table clash against its rivals last week by getting a win against the River Pigs when they face them on its home court at Edwin Flack Reserve. The River Pigs have been strong in the attacking half of the court and can pull off an upset against the might of the Wickers but need to work well together as a team and execute their skills well if they are to get the job done.

Division Two Football Week Six Review The match of the round contest between Warburton Millgrove and Powelltown was dominated early by the Demons who went into the quarter time break with a 32-point lead. Despite the best efforts of the Burras to try and get themselves back in the contest, who were without key players including superstar Mitch Bonuda, they were unable to stay in touch with the second placed Powelltown who did more than enough throughout the match to secure the four points. The Demons were well represented on the goalkicking list with five majors to full forward Michael Fowkes while Joel Perry, Garry Sheppard and Ben Wratten kicked four goals each. On an afternoon where the Burras’ effort could not be questioned, they also had some sharpshooters with Trent Elliott and Jack Farrigia kicking three each.
Without a doubt, the upset of the round across the Outer East FN region goes to Yarra Junction who got the better of Kinglake to record a 16-point victory in what is now regarded as a barometer for the Eagles which sets the standard for what they can achieve for the remainder of the season. In what was a terrific team performance, the Eagles got the game on their terms after half-time, overturning a seven-point deficit to hit the front but were well represented through the best efforts of Sam Cannon, Jared Derksen, Jesse Bombinski, Ewan Wadsworth, Tim Peters and Luke Spaulding, as Sam Morton led the goalkicking tally with four majors. On an afternoon where Lakers will rue its downfall in the second half, it was Leigh Gilbert, Matthew Coen, Aidan McErlain, Mason McAllister, Ethan Robinson and Bailey
Week Seven Preview Broadford Yea will get another opportunity to have a go and play as a combined outfit this week when they host secondplaced Powelltown on Saturday afternoon. With the transition into a combined outfit proving to be a good fit so far, this clash will again be all about learning more of each other’s strengths and developing as a football team with the view of potentially having some success later in the year if they are able to get things right. For the Demons who grabbed a seven-goal win against Warburton Millgrove last week, the focus for them will be to keep things moving with a potential win on the cards.
Two typically competitive sides in Division Two, Alexandra and Kinglake will do battle again this Saturday afternoon where the aim is to continue building momentum and maintain their positions as competitive outfits against its rivals. The Lakers are coming off a shock loss at home to Yarra Junction last week, which will no doubt spur them on to come out firing and prove to the competition that it was only a once off. Meanwhile the Rebels, who had a bye last week, are refreshed and ready to go for this allimportant clash and need to get a win if they are to stay in touch with the top three.

Division Two Netball Week Six Review Warburton Millgrove were too good for Powelltown in the broadcast game of the weekend, taking a 21-goal victory on its home court at Mac Sparke Oval. In front from start to finish, the Burras had good influence from all players but it was Gabby Woods and Morgan Wyatt who were named on the best players list with Shae Gee being the leading goalshooter with 28. For the Demons, it was Olivia Caneva, Demi Barber and Maddalyn Beet who tried their hearts out while Amy Stanley shot 21 goals. Yarra Junction grabbed its second win of the year with a nine-goal win when they travelled north to play Kinglake on their home court. Leading from start to finish, Claire Spicer and Stacey Davis were regarded as the best players for the Eagles while Jess Ellwood Week Seven Preview One of two A Grade matchups taking place on the Yea Showgrounds this week, Broadford and Powelltown will do battle on the netball court this weekend in what is tipped to be a solid matchup between two very competitive sides. The Kangaroos are refreshed after a week off and hope to take the battle right up to the Demons this week, but they too are expected to come out firing following a loss to Warburton Millgrove last week which has left them in fifth on the ladder. On a run of good form and sitting in third on the ladder, Alexandra will be hoping to follow on from this success when they host Kinglake on Saturday afternoon. With its A Grade side
shot 32 goals. Billie Cvijetic, Natalie Gibson and Jacinta Benson were the best for Kinglake on an afternoon where they tried hard to keep themselves in it for much of the day. In a one o’clock fixture on Saturday afternoon at Yea Showgrounds, Alexandra grabbed its third win of season 2022 with a 16-goal victory against Yea. With the scores level at quarter-time, the Rebels took the ascendency from there and controlled the match to the end and now sit in equal second with Broadford on the ladder. For the Tigers, it was another disappointing loss as they regroup and look ahead to its fixtures of this weekend.
up and about, the Rebels are expected to get the win when they take the court, but the Lakers will do all they can to put a stop to it, with their A Grade side showing improvements of their own over the last fortnight. The second match to be held at Yea Showgrounds, Yea will host Yarra Junction on Saturday afternoon with a win in front of their home crowd on a big day of sport for the Murrindi Shire the target here. The Eagles, however, have other ideas in mind, with win number three for the season high on the agenda for the weekend.

Women’s Football Week Six Review Pakenham have continued its strong form from recent weeks, defeating Yarra Junction for the second time this season to the tune of 41-points. In what was the first match of the season on its home ground at Toomuc Reserve, the Lions were well represented through the likes of Courtney Stephens, Chloe Nagel, Abbey Tognazzini, Tayla Sbisa and Sarah Connelly who starred as their best players while Bianca Moody kicked five majors. On an afternoon where the Eagles put in their best efforts, it was Jade Radford, Michelle Goldsmith, Sarah Allsopp, Emily Spicer and Sarah Humphrey who were named as their best. Thornton Eildon put in a huge effort over the weekend to grab its first win of season 2022, beating the travelling Seville outfit by 39-points. The Shinboners were in control for the entirety of the match, gradually piling on the goals throughout the game with Catherine Hoinville, Hannah Rusic, Lucy McRae, Emily Kerr and Auri Parker named best afield while Hilary Myles finished with four majors. For the developing Seville, it was their best performance of the season given they finished with its highest score to date. Week Seven Preview Olinda Ferny Creek will host Pakenham for the second time in three weeks on their home deck at their home deck, with the Bloods hoping for the result to stay the same way when they matchup against one another. For the Lions, they will be hoping to turn the tables on the result and make amends for the loss last time out. Boasting a stronger side now with new additions to the squad over the last month, Pakenham are well placed to pull off an upset but it’s up to them to put the work in against their opponents and get the job done. Following a match where they achieved its highest score since the start of the season, Seville will have a tough task on its hand this week when they match up against the might of Healesville who are sitting in second on the ladder. Despite being handed its first loss of the year last week when they played Upwey Tecoma, the Bloods will be keen to bounce back and achieve more success this week.
For a match that started on relatively even terms with a one goal difference at quarter time, the remainder of the game between Olinda Ferny Creek and Belgrave failed to produce the spectacle that many were hoping for as the Bloods ran away with it in the end to take a 64-point victory, taking top spot on the ladder in the process. Phobe Dixon was the best on field for her side as she came up with four majors in front of goal while Maddie Collins, Vanessa Bateman, Lily Carlin, Alex Gunn and Casey Seymour were also judged as best afield. The game to watch between Healesville and Upwey Tecoma was a great contest, as the Tigers got the better of the Bloods to put a stop to its unbeaten run. Kiana Oates, Cale McNess, Emma Caccetta, Rebecca Robinson, Corinna White and Leah Borg shone for the travelling Tigers as they slogged it out to put a terrific win together. Despite failing to kick a goal throughout the game, a loss of just 23-points and holding the Tigers goalless for two consecutive quarters meant it wasn’t a completely bad day for the Bloods as they showed they are still one of the better placed teams in the competition.
The game between sixth placed Monbulk and seventh placed Yarra Junction is tipped to be a great game with both appearing to be evenly matched up. The Hawks are after its third win of the season to stay in touch with those above them on the ladder, while win number two for the Eagles who are developing well as a team and getting better on the run will be a great result for them. Upwey Tecoma will look to potentially jump into second on the ladder this weekend when they host Belgrave at Chandler Reserve on Saturday afternoon. The Tiger ladies have proven to be ultra-competitive and consistent so far with their performances and will hope to do exactly the same this week when they play Belgrave who are still trying to get a grip on the season following an indifferent start to their campaign.
