OVER VIEW – APRIL 2018 In the month, as many as 13 terrorist attacks took place in Pakistan, which claimed the lives of 41 people, and wounded 88 others. These attacks also included One (01) suicide blasts, which took place in Baleli -Quetta. Those killed in terrorist attacks in April included 19 civilians, 15 LEA personals, and 09 terrorist. Highest number of terrorist attacks and consequent casualties for any one region of Pakistan was reported from Balochistan.

A policeman was injured when culprits attacked police van during a raid in Rawalpindi. The police launched operation for arrest of proclaimed offenders (POs) in Lehtrar Bala area of Kotli Sattian, district Rawalpindi. The culprits taking shelter in the area opened fire at police van injuring a policeman identified as Tariq driving the van and escaped. The injured policeman was shifted to hospital where his condition was stated to be stable.
The Airport Security Force (ASF) on Sunday arrested a British national in a bid to smuggle 1.75kg heroin in his shoes at Benazir International Airport, Islamabad. ASF foiled the smuggling attempt and arrested the suspect. According to airport officials, the accused identified as Asif Khan, was en route to England on flight PK 785. During a search, the heroin was recovered from his shoes. The accused was detained and handed over to Anti-Narcotics Force.
At least four labourers, including two brothers, were killed while two others were injured when explosions caused collided in a coal mine in Tilla Jogian in Jhelum, the area within the jurisdiction of Domeli Police Station. According to SHO Zahid Khan, six labourers were busy digging coal in the mine when all of a sudden it collapsed trapping them underneath.
Eight people, including four women, were abducted from various parts of Faisalabad in 12 hours on Sunday.
At least 42 people were injured when a passenger bus over turned in the federal capital on Monday. Rescue sources said that a speeding passenger bus over turned in the jurisdiction of Khanna police station of Islamabad. As a result of the accident, 42 people were injured who were shifted to a hospital for treatment. Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) supporters protested at the Islamabad expressway during Monday evening to demand recovery of their central party leader. ASWJ protesters blocked the highway near Zia mosque. They claimed that their central deputy secretary Masoodur Rehman Usmani had been missing for a few hours. Usmani was picked up by unidentified persons from Sharifabad area during Monday afternoon, the protesters said. According to media reports associated with ASWJ leaders’ statements, men in plain clothes came in several vehicles while hiding their faces and took Usmani with them.

One of the boys, Shahmeel, said he and his two other Christian friends headed to the park with their Sikh friends for Easter celebrations on Monday night when the guards stopped the girls at the entrance. He claimed they objected that taking girlfriends to the park was prohibited. The boys got enraged when the guards questioned their relationship, he added.

Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) arrested the leader of a gang of killers linked to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Quetta. The group was involved in the killing of 16 police officers in the city during last three months, and the agencies are conducting raids to arrest the other members of the group, reported a local English newspaper. During a press conference, Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo revealed the information after chairing a meeting on the law and order situation in the province. Bizenjo told the press that Fazal Haq Ghaibzai, the ringleader, was arrested during a combined operation by police, Frontier Corps, and the Counter Terrorism Department on the basis of intelligence tip-off.

Three members of the provincial assembly (MPAs) of Punjab on Tuesday joined the Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). The three lawmakers including Sardar Shahabud Din of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) MPA Ahmed Shah Khagga and independent MPA Riaz Fatiana announced joining the party following a meeting with the PTI chief at his residence in Bani Gala. Former member National Assembly Makhdoom Anwar Alam has also announced joining the Khan-led party.
A man threw acid on a woman for rejecting a marriage proposal, a private media outlet reported. According to the media reports, 45-year-old Mujahid had proposed marriage to his cousin Mehwish, but the woman, as well as his family, had refused to accept it notwithstanding increasing pressure from the accused.
The much-awaited project of the Islamabad Model Prison may be delayed further as the Capital Development Authority (CDA) asked the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) to clear pending dues of Rs 490 million.In February this year, Minister for Interior Affairs Ahsan Iqbal inaugurated work on the long-awaited model prison in the capital and asked the authorities to complete the project in 2019. On April 3, Chief Commissioner Aftab Akbar Durrani wrote a letter to CDA Chairman Usman Akhtar Bajwa, requested him to expedite the approval of drawing of the model prison in Sector H-16.
A serving sessions court judge has filed a complaint of misconduct against Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar in the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), reported a local English newspaper. As per reports, Kohat District and Sessions Judge Ahmed Sultan Tareen sent the 15-page complaint by courier against the top judge in the SJC. Tareen, in his complaint, has argued that CJP’s current conduct has exposed him as lacking most of the qualities of judge mentioned in Article-II of the Code of Conduct issued by SJC in 2009. The complaint also mentioned Article-V of the Code of Conduct, which requires of a judge that he should not indulge himself in any public controversy, least of all a political issue. An earthquake of low intensity jolted different areas of district Loralai of Balochistan but no causality or property damages were reported. According to the geological wing of PMD, tremours measured 3.2 on Richter scale were felt in district headquarters Loralai and surroundings areas. The epicentre of the earthquake was stated to be 35 kilometre East of Loralai, deep inside earth crust. Sindh Rangers on Tuesday arrested five alleged criminals, including an extortionist, during operations in different parts of the metropolis. Rangers’ spokesman said that the paramilitary forces carried out a targeted raid in Solider Bazaar and arrested an extortionist, Saeed Ahmed. Separately, a Rangers’ team nabbed two drug peddlers from Solider Bazaar area. Meanwhile, Rangers apprehended a political party activist.

Islamabad police on Thursday conducted a surprise mock exercise in red zone area to test the preparedness of Anti-Terrorism Squad. Police DIG Waqar Chouhan, while briefing the media, told that the capital police had conducted the mock exercise in order to gauge its preparedness and readiness to respond to any untoward terror incident in the sensitive red zone area. In order to imitate a real-life scenario, Capital Territory Police informed the electronic and print media reporters about rumour of a bomb planted in the red zone.
Islamabad police on Thursday arrested a constable stationed at Police Lines Headquarters on charges of raping a female domestic worker while under the influence of drugs. The woman stated in her complaint that the policeman sexually assaulted her after an accomplice of his lured her into a house on the pretext of giving her work. The woman, in a video footage recorded by reporters, is seen alleging that the accused policeman was under the influence of drugs when he assaulted her.
Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) cyber-crime wing on Thursday arrested a man posing a pir (faith healer) for allegedly sexually assaulting and blackmailing women. According to FIA, the man, resident of Haripur, used to harass women who approached him for the solution for their problems. He would then use pictures and videos of those women to blackmail them. Numerous videos have been recovered from the possession of the accused, FIA said. A local court handed the individual over to the agency on physical remand for seven days. Cases of fake faith healers using their position to abuse, harras and blackmail women and men are not common in Pakistan.

The fire that erupted at a five-storey departmental store in Multan was extinguished after 15 hours on Friday evening.The building was engulfed in flames as a massive fire erupted in the early hours of Friday in Multan. Rescue and fire brigade teams reached the spot with dozens of vehicles and tried to put out the fire. The struggle continued for 15 hours. In late February, 10 shops were destroyed after a fire in Lunda bazaar in the city. A nearby bank’s building was evacuated after it was damaged by the fire.
Karachi Police arrested at least seven suspects including a police personnel in raids in different areas of the city and recovered weapons and drugs from their possession. According to the details, the police conducted raids in the Ayoub Goth area of the metropolis on a tip-off. At least two street criminals were detained in the raid and two pistols along with five bullets were recovered. An FIR was also registered against the arrested outlaws.
The Pakistan Coast Guards seized thousands of bottles of liquor said to be worth over Rs6.7 million in an operation near Pasni, Balochistan, according to a spokesperson of the force on Friday. Officials informed that Coast Guards DG Brigadier Sajid Sikandar Ranjha received a tip-off about the presence of smuggled contraband following which the authority took action. As a result of the intelligence report, teams were dispatched on specific routes after which they discovered the stash in Gorani area of Pasni. However, the smugglers managed to escape. Authorities claimed to have recovered 21,000 bottles of various kinds of alcohol and 850 cans of beer. Officials said the liquor was intended to be smuggled to the country’s main towns and cities.
The Punjab government on Saturday declared Lahore’s Mall Road of as ‘red zone’ in an apparent move to avoid the protests, sit-ins, demonstrations, rallies and all sort of public gatherings that had become a routine matter at one of the busiest thoroughfares of the metropolitan. Punjab’s Social Welfare Department on Saturday cancelled the registration of 3,700 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) for not submitting proper audit reports and not following the rules and standard operating procedures (SOPs). A senior official of the department told media that the ban on these NGOs had been imposed for violating the rules and regulations. Indian troops on Saturday shot a rocket from across the Line of Control (LoC) in the Nakyal sector, killing a woman and injuring her two siblings and a cousin. The attack took place in the Baig Wala Lanjot, a hamlet barely 150 metres away from the LoC in Nakyal sector of Kotli district, during the afternoon. Kotli Deputy Commissioner Abdul Hameed Kiani said that 26-year old Rubaida Khayam died as a result of the attack. The victim’s sisters, Sufaida Khayam and Zubaiba, and cousin Sumaida Ismail were critically injured.
A local resident was reportedly killed and another injured after a vehicle belonging to the US Embassy in Islamabad rammed into a motorcycle on Saturday. According to details, the accident occurred in the Daman-e-Koh area of the capital in the afternoon when the defence and air attache Col Joseph Emanuel’s vehicle, bearing no. QM-058 (64-48) hit the bike bearing no. ARM-900. The impact of the accident killed Muhammad Ateeq Baig, son of Muhammad Idrees on the spot, while his cousin Raheel, son of Changez, was injured. According to police sources, the envoy was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. The police couldn’t arrest the diplomat since he enjoyed diplomatic immunity; however, the vehicle was impounded at Kohsar Police Station. Police sources said that Col Joseph Emanuel ran away from the police station after a scuffle with police officers.
The first Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight landed on Saturday at the federal capital’s new international airport as part of the preparations for the formal inauguration of Pakistan’s largest airport on April 20. An A320 aircraft took off from the Benazir Bhutto International Airport (BBIA) at 12.30pm and landed at the new Islamabad International Airport at 1pm.

The roof of a house collapsed in the Thokar Niaz Beg area of Lahore, killing two people. In Harbanspura area of the Lahore, strong winds caused power outage in the entire area. A similar incident was reported in Sheikhupura. The roof of a house collapsed due to strong winds, trapping many in the rubble. 11 people were injured in the incident.
A departmental store in the Cantonment area caught fire a second time on Sunday morning. Items housed within the store may have ignited the fire though uncertainty prevails over the exact cause, a district emergency oficer said. This is the second time within two days that the departmental store has caught fire. The previous blaze was caused due to a short-circuit and burned for 16 hours. More than a dozen firefighters assisted by army personnel fought the blaze but the four-storey building caught fire again before the cooling process could complete. Reports suggest there was no loss of life in both incidents.

The matter of the kidnapping and murder of a youth was solved as police recovered the corpse of 22-year-old Akram within the jurisdiction of Laksian police station. Police said that the dead body of the accused’s brother Ghazanfar was found near the motorway some time ago. The accused suspected that his brother Ghazanfar was killed by Akram, the police added. The police further said that two months ago Akram was abducted from the Bhagtanwala area of Hyderabad.
Two young men died while two got severely injured after two speeding cars collided on Sunday night here in Cavalry Ground area. According to rescue officials, one youth died on the spot while second, who was critically injured, succumbed to his injuries shortly after the accident, bringing the death toll to two.
The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Sunday sealed a factory producing fake soft drinks and discarded thousands of litres of adulterated drinks, media reports have stated. After receiving information, PFA operations wing teams conducted a raid at the site and confiscated 4,800 filled and 6,000 empty bottles.
A Power theft case has been registered against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA (Member National Assembly) Malik Amir Dogar in Multan. Air conditioners and electrical appliances were powered on at Dogar’s residence but the electricity meter demonstrated no usage. The discovery was made after Sub-divisional officer (SDO) Industrial state arrived at his house for inspection. Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) has disconnected electricity supply and representatives say that additional action will also be taken. Eight members of a family fainted after drinking poisonous cold drinks in Larkana’s Ali Goharabad locality on Monday. The women told media persons in the hospital that they had purchased Mirinda cold drinks from a shop located in their area to quench their thirst and their condition started deteriorating right after drinking it. They informed that their relatives had rushed them to the hospital for treatment.

A Private security guard was shot dead when he offered resistance to robbers attempting to loot a cash van in Federal B. Industrial Area on Monday, a local media outlet reported. As climate change shortens springtime in Islamabad and makes it much less rainy, pollen allergy problems are skyrocketing. District Health Officer Muhammad Najeeb Durrani, while speaking to Reuters, estimates that more than 130,000 patients with pollen allergy symptoms registered this spring at Islamabad’s various health facilities. In previous years, the total was between 40,000 and 50,000, he said. The problem is particularly severe among elderly people and children, said officials at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Science (PIMS), the city’s main public hospital. Aqeel Mustafa, who enters patient information at the hospital, said he had registered more than 600 pollen allergy patients a day since early March, and by the end of the first week of April the total had hit more than 25,000.
The operation to rescue three missing civilians, lost in a landslide at Ulter Meadows area of Hunza, continues on the second day, Tuesday. Earlier, two of the five civilians lost in the landslide were rescued while a search is still underway for remaining three. The Gilgit Baltistan Commissioner Usman told media that teams of Pakistan Army have been called for search and rescue operation, adding that helicopter is being used to send necessities to the inaccessible areas to help the locals.

A sub-inspector (SI) among two policemen was critically injured in an exchange of fire with robbers here on Wednesday. The police on a tip-off regarding presence of robbers launched an operation in Batala Colony of Faisalabad. At least three labourers killed when a tractor trolley hit an overhead barrier loaded with bricks at Bhatta Chowk in Lahore in the early hours of Thursday. According to media reports, the brick-loaded trolley was on its way to deliver the building material to a private housing scheme near Bhatta Chowk with three labourers sleeping on top of the bricks. The vehicle hit with an overhead concrete barrier as the driver misjudged its height and tried to pass through the barrier.

A family was attacked over their refusal to give their two daughters as vani during a jirga in Rahim Yar Khan on Sunday morning. Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested three human traffickers on Sunday during a raid. The FIA spokesman said that on public complaints, an operation was conducted against the human traffickers in the provincial capital. He said that three human traffickers named Shabbir, Ghulam Nabbi and Tahir Muneeb – allegedly involved in sending people abroad through illegal means by accepting a huge sum of money – were arrested during the operation. The passports and other documents were also recovered from the possession of the arrested human traffickers. The accused were interrogated after registration of cases against them at the concerned FIA police station.

A passenger coaster and tractor trolley collided on Hyderabad road in the vicinity of Matli town on Sunday killing at least four passengers, injuring 25. Pakistan and Afghan military officials on Tuesday discussed fencing and other points pertaining to border issues in a meeting held at the Tewza check post near the Kharlache crossing point in the Upper Kurram Agency. It was discussed during the meeting that fencing process should stop till demarcation of the international border (Durant Line) by mutual consent. Moreover, it was discussed that the fencing party would only fence Pakistan territory and would remain away from the zero line while the firing would be stopped till the evacuation of the injured. The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday remarked that diplomatic immunity does not allow any person to kill someone. Justice Aamer Farooq gave the remarks during the hearing of a plea seeking travel ban on the US diplomat who killed a youth in a road accident in the capital. On April 7, US diplomat, Colonel Joseph Emmanuel Hall hit a motorcyclist as he jumped the traffic signal at the intersection of Margalla Road and 7th Avenue in the federal capital. The incident killed a youth while the pillion rider received serious injuries. The deceased was identified as 22year-old Ateeq Baig. A resident of Talhar village in Margalla Hills, his father is employed as a security guard at a public school in Saidpur village. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf-led (PTI) coalition government has lost its majority in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly in the wake of Imran Khan’s decision of issuing notices to at least 20 members for being allegedly involved in the selling of votes in the Senate elections. A woman was allegedly set on fire by her husband in Sukkur’s New Pind area, a private media outlet reported Thursday. According to the police, the woman had attended a wedding function at her uncle’s residence against her husband’s will, and the accused had “also suspected her of being unfaithful to him”. The husband, losing his temper during a domestic fight, reportedly doused his wife with petrol and set her ablaze. The local police reached the site of the incident soon after and rushed the woman to Civil Hospital Sukkur. While the woman is under treatment at the said hospital, doctors say she has burns on 99 per cent of her body. Meanwhile, the husband and his accomplice were arrested by the police.
UN honours seven Pakistani peacekeepers posthumously. Seven Pakistani peacekeepers, who were martyred for global peace and security, were posthumously honoured with the United Nations (UN) medal in New York on Thursday. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), UN SecretaryGeneral Antonio Guterres, who was the chief guest on the occasion, paid rich tribute to the Pakistanis who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. Pakistan stands as one of the largest troop-contributing countries for UN peacekeeping missions. So far 156 Pakistani blue helmets have embraced martyrdom while serving under the UN umbrella. The SCNs were issued on airing false and fake news pertaining to orders of the Lahore High Court (LHC) banning anti-judiciary speeches of the ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz. All these news channels aired false fake news in violation of PEMRA Code of Conduct 2015 which compels channels to on-air accurate and authentic news and information to the viewers, the notice said. Satellite TV Channels, having issued show cause notices included Geo News, Royal News, Din News, Samaa TV, Dawn News, ARY News, Waqt News, Bol News, KTN News, Kohinoor TV, Mashriq TV, Roze News, 92 HD News, Dunya TV, Channel 5, Aaaj TV and Express News. Furthermore, all the news channels have been asked to show cause and appear for a personal hearing before PEMRA on April 24, 2018. Two girls who mysteriously went missing from Surjani Town were recovered on Thursday. The police said that both girls were recovered from Gulistan-e-Jauhar area. They added that they had arrested three accused, including a woman, during the raid. Rabia, a Class 5 student, and Saima went missing on April 15.
The Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) will now have a local government system, as agreed by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Apex Committee agreed on Thursday. Reported by a local media outlet, the meeting was presided by the KP Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra and attended by Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, the Peshawar corps commander, and senior functionaries of law enforcement agencies and other departments. Five men, including three Chinese nationals, were arrested and a drone camera — which they were allegedly using to make videos of the newly constructed Islamabad airport — was shot down on Wednesday, sources within the Airport Security Force (ASF) said. The ASF sources further said the arrested men were workers of a Chinese company involved in the construction of the airport and they were making the drone footage without permission. The drone, destroyed as a result of firing, was also taken into custody by the ASF officials.
Two prisoners, Zahid Saghir and Naseer Abid, mysteriously died in Karachi central jail on Thursday. According to the police, Abid was brought to appear in the court when his health deteriorated. He was then shifted to Central Hospital for treatment during which he passed away, the police claimed. On the other hand prisoner Zahid was found dead in the prison. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is prepared for seat adjustment with Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in Sindh, according to Punjab Minister for Education Rana Mashood Ahmad Khan. The Multan Electric Power Supply Company (MEPCO) arrested seven power thieves and seized power cables here on Friday. Taking notice of public complaints, the MEPCO team conducted operation against the power thieves in Shawan and surrounding areas of Multan. During the operation, seven culprits involved in power theft were arrested and hundreds of meters power cables were recovered. The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) cyber crime wing on Thursday detained a man for allegedly blackmailing women using their Facebook pictures and videos, according to a local media outlet. The raid took place on the complaint of a woman named Firdous, a resident of Iqbal Town, who stated how the man tried to blackmail her after befriending her on Facebook. After they took a few pictures together he edited these pictures and videos to make them explicit and then blackmailed her for several months to get money. Earlier this week, the FIA’s cybercrime wing declared a senior Punjab Police official as an absconder after he uploaded his wife’s private pictures and videos on social media. With the help of a friend, he made a fake Facebook account and forwarded her pictures to her family in order to prove that she was being ‘immoral’. The said police officer wanted to get married again but did not get the permission of his wife to do so.
An Indian youth has gone missing in the city, days after an incident involving an Indian girl who married a Pakistani man after converting to Islam. According to details, 24-year-old Amarjit Singh from Amritsar had arrived in Pakistan along with other Sikh pilgrims to celebrate the Baisakhi festival on April 12. Regional Police Officer (RPO) of Faisalabad on Sunday suspended Station House Officer (SHO) of Jaranwala police station on the charges of abusing powers and taking illegal gratifications. Punjab police spokesman said that a local trader had filed a complaint with the Faisalabad RPO, contending that Jaranwala SHO Mian Abid illegally implicated him in a dacoity case and received bribe worth Rs 100,000 bribe from him for his release later on. The RPO not only suspended the SHO but also directed Jaranwala Superintendent of Police (SP) Shahbaz Elahi to probe the matter and submit an inquiry report at the earliest for further action.

A Christian girl who was set ablaze by a Muslim man in Sialkot for “refusing to renounce her faith and marry him” passed away at the hospital on Sunday evening. 25-year-old Asma was being treated in the burns unit at Lahore’s Mayo Hospital where her condition was stated to be critical. According to the girl’s father Yaqoob Masih, his daughter used to work as a domestic help at the house of Saeeduz Zaman in Mohalla Pakpura area in Sialkot.
A fire erupted during the early hours of Sunday at the back of a police station in the city’s Liaquatabad area burning down five cars. According to police officials, four of the five cars were non-operational while the remaining one was in working condition. Two fire brigades arrived on the scene and have since then controlled the fire. The cause of the fire is yet unknown.

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday ordered that former Jamaatul Ahrar (JuA) and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan will remain imprisoned. The victim’s father, in the petition, had asked the court to ensure that Ehsan is not pardoned as he had claimed responsibility for the 2014 attack on Peshawar’s APS in which at least 144 people, mostly children, were killed. A twojudge bench comprising justices Qaisar Rashid and Ikramullah Khan declared that, “the parents of the victims ─ and not the state– hold the right to pardon him,” as he had taken the responsibility of the attack.
At least six coal mine workers have died due to poisonous gas intake while working in a coal mine in Kala Khel area, situated on the border of FR Kohat and FR Peshawar. Engineer FATA Coal Mines, Roshan Khan said that poisonous gas accumulated in the 10th coal mine in Kaley Khel, the bordering area of Darra Adam Khel in FR Peshawar. Six miners died due to the intake of the poisonous gas. The bodies were pulled out and shifted to hospital for postmortem.
A soldier deployed at a checkpost in Mohmand Agency near Pak-Afghan border embraced martyrdom on Thursday during an exchange of fire with militants who raided the post from across the border, the military’s media wing said on Thursday. The Inter-Services Public Relations further claimed that the Pakistani forces “effectively responded” and killed three “terrorists”.
Fresh ceasefire violations by Indian troops from across the restive Line of Control (LoC) left two men dead and a woman and her teenage son wounded in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Thursday, officials said. “There has been heavy shelling in Chamb sector since 6am and according to initial reports two civilians have been killed and two others injured,”. Chamb sector is located in Barnala tehsil of Bhimber, the southernmost AJK district which runs along the heavily militarised LoC splitting the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir between Pakistan and India.

A three-member special bench of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday disqualified Khawaja Asif as a member of the parliament under Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution for not disclosing his employment in a UAE company as an occupation as well as the monthly salary he was receiving.
All Pakistan Chemist Association on Thursday observed a shutterdown strike across the province against Drug Act 2017. Numerous medical stores in Multan, Lahore, Vehari, Sadiqabad, Kasur, Sialkot, Chishtian, Faisalabad and other cities remained closed. The reports, however, stated that the association was divided into two factions as one group announced its detachment from the protest. Meanwhile, patients across the province suffered as they were unable to get the required medicines due to the lockdown of medical stores. In Lahore, the stores outside Services Hospital were completely shut down while a few were open outside the Ganga Ram and Mayo hospitals.
Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Salahuddin Khan Mehsud on Wednesday said that about 8500 CCTV cameras will be installed under the Safe City Project on different points which will go a long way in identification of crimes and criminals besides awarding them punishment under the laws. Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Fawad Hasan Fawad on Friday appeared before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the Ashiana-e-Iqbal Housing Scheme scam. Fawad is suspected of having misused his authority while he was posted in the Punjab government. He is accused of illegally awarding the contract for the said housing scheme of the provincial government. According to NAB, the contract for the project was awarded to a construction company titled Lahore Casa Developers — a proxy group of Paragon City (Pvt) Limited, which is said to be owned by Railways Minister Saad Rafique, by Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his aides instead of Chaudhry Latif and Sons. Fawad, who was a senior bureaucrat in the Punjab government at the time, levelled charges of wrongdoings against Chaudhry Latif and Sons in order for the contract to be awarded to Casa Developers.
Two policemen were suspended from duty and later arrested after an FIR (First Information Report) was file by their female colleague in Chak-15 Gajyani of Chishtian city in Bahawalnagar. According to the information provided in the FIR by the rape survivor, one of the accused, Head Constable Faheem, took her to a house in Chak 15 Gajyani on the pretext of arresting a female criminal. The complainant said when they reached the house, Assistant Superintendent Kashif was already present there. The constable said that the accused drugged her first and then raped her also making a video of the crime. Later, she said, they blackmailed her with the video. Faheem also proposed that the blackmailing could stop if she married him, the survivor added. However, after the incident, she filed a complaint, following which Bahawalnagar DPO Ata-ur-Rehman suspended the accused and they were later arrested. A man gunned down three including wife and parents-in-law over domestic disputes here on Friday and fled the scene. Police said that the accused hailing from Manzoorabad area of Jamshoro quarrelled with his wife and parents-in-law over domestic issues. The verbal clash turned violent after which the man opened straight fire killing wife, parents-in-law and fled from the scene after committing triple murder. The bodies were shifted to hospital for postmortem and the police, after registering a case against the accused, started raids for his arrest.

At least two people were injured when a vehicle driven by the US envoy, Chad Rex Ausburn, rammed into a motorbike near Secretariat on Sunday. This is second such incident wherein a US diplomat was involved in a road accident. Earlier this month, a local resident was killed and another injured after a vehicle belonging to the US envoy had ran over motorcyclists. According to initial details, the incident took place at Secretariat Chowk. One of the two injured were identified as Nazakat who works at Motamar Al-Alam Al-Islami, an Islamic organisation. Following the accident, he was hurried to PIMS hospital in the capital.
Shutter down strike of medical stores against Drug Act 2017 across Punjab entered fourth day on Sunday. Patients continue to remain in unending suffering due to the closure of several stores outside major hospitals. However, a few of them are open near Mayo and Ganga Ram hospital in Lahore. Same situation also persists in other cities including Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Okara, Narowal, Sadiqabad, Chishtian, Pir Mahal, Kasur and Vehari, where the medicines are unavailable as the medical stores have been shut down on the call of All Pakistan Chemists and Drugs Association. The protesters have announced to observe the shutter-down strike till the elimination of Drug Act 2017. Neither any action nor any negotiations have yet been announced by the government in this regard. From the past three days, the authorities continue to remain silent spectators over the strike.
A schoolteacher was arrested from the hostel of a private cadet school in Lahore’s Garten Town area allegedly for raping a 14-year-old student. Azhar Iqbal, as the man has been identified was arrested after the child’s parents registered a case against him. “I appeal to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to ensure justice for my child. This issue is not just about my child but all our children,” said the boy’s father Zaheer Ahmed. He added that men like him should be publicly hanged. “I just want justice for my child,” said the mother, adding that she wanted the school’s principal to also be punished.

KARACHI: The Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) has recently released its monthly report about crime statistics in Karachi between April 1 to 30 in 2018. 2,576 mobile phones were stolen in the month of April, according to the report, out of which 108 were recovered. A total of 214 motorcycles were snatched or stolen in the month of April, out of which 448 were recovered. The number of cars stolen/snatched amounted to 101 during April, out of which 46 have been recovered. Out of the 34 cases of kidnapping, one of kidnapping for ransom and 11 extortion cases reported. The number of crime incidents increased from 175,286 to 239,405 according to crime statistics compiled by the CPLC.
