SRINAGAR: Indian occupied Kashmir has seen at least 229 killings during more than 100 military operations since January, a rights group said on Wednesday. The Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society (JKCCS), which operates in the region, said in its bi-annual report that from January 1 to June 30, the region witnessed the extrajudicial executions of at least 32 civilians and the killing of 54 armed forces personnel. 2. SLAMABAD: The Cybercrime Wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested three suspected child pornographers in a countrywide crackdown. The agency produced them before prevention of electronic crime (cybercrime) courts and obtained their three-day physical remand. A senior official of the FIA said that for the first time such suspects, who are allegedly members of pornographic websites, had been arrested with the active support of Interpol and European and international law enforcement agencies. In the past, he added, the FIA used to arrest the suspects on the complaints of local people and then start further probe. However, this time the FIA itself initiated the probe and contacted the international law enforcement agencies to trace the suspected child pornographers. 3. ISLAMABAD: The grandsons of the late Baloch nationalist leader, Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti, have withdrawn the case over a dispute with the Oil and Gas Development Comp-any Limited being heard by the Isla-m-abad High Court (IHC) regarding hiring of land, apparently after an out-ofcourt settlement with the OGDCL. 4. ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Electronic Media Authority Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on Friday suspended with "immediate effect" television channel 24NewsHD's licence for "illegal transmission of news and current affairs content". According to a press release issued by the regulatory authority, the channel Value TV — for which the license was issued to Central Media Network Pvt — had "illegally" changed its name to 24NewsHD. The channel was granted the licence to air entertainment content but instead it was "persistently illegally and unlawfully airing news and current affairs in continuous violation of Pemra laws", the statement read. 5. ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and former president Asif Ali Zardari has warned against any effort to undo the 18th Amendment, saying such a move will be an attack on the federation. 6. RAWALPINDI: Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Babar Iftikhar on Thursday termed reports by the Indian media that Pakistan had deployed additional troops along the Line of Control (LoC) in Gilgit-Baltistan as “false” and “irresponsible”. Multiple reports circulating in Indian media have claimed that Pakistan has deployed “almost 20,000 additional soldiers” along the LoC in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and GB “to match Chinese deployments on the LAC [Line of Actual Control] in the east”. In a series of tweets, Gen Babar said that there was no truth to Chinese troops were using the Skardu Airbase, saying that the

RAWALPINDI: Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan on Saturday announced that show-cause notices were issued to 30 more pilots with ‘dubious licences’ after completion of an inquiry as the government sped up scrutiny process of suspected pilots. 8. LAHORE: The Punjab government on Saturday registered a case against four employees of Lahore Grammar School— including a teacher who was earlier sacked by the administration — after they were held responsible by the school for the alleged sexual harassment of female students. 9. LAHORE: The Lahore High Court’s administration committee on Friday approved ‘removal from service’ of Judge Arshad Malik on charges of misconduct after a year-long inquiry into the video scandal that broke last July, sending ripples through political and legal circles. 10. LAHORE: Twenty-two people, including 20 Sikh pilgrims, a driver and his helper, were killed and nine others injured when a train rammed into a passenger coach at the railway track passing through Sucha Soda, a small town near Farooq-abad in Sheikhupura district, about70km from here, on Friday afternoon. The tragic incident took place at a small unmanned level crossing / passage, just about 100 feet away from a manned level crossing at the track. 11. LAHORE: A female nurse was gang-raped by four muggers during a robbery bid in Lahore on Thursday as police claimed that they had arrested two suspects for their involvement in the heinous act. According to police, the incident occurred within the remits of Gujjarpura police station when a woman was returning to her home after closing down the clinic, where she works as a female health worker. 12. LAHORE: Police claim to have arrested three out of the four suspected robbers who allegedly gang-raped a teenaged girl in Gujjarpura area late on Wednesday. The 18-year-old girl was an assistant at a private homeopathic clinic in Saggian and was going home from work at around 10pm along with her employer, Muhammad Anwar, when the incident occurred. Four armed men had allegedly taken the girl to nearby fields and sexually assaulted her at gunpoint in the presence of her employer. 13. JAMSHORO: Sindh police on Sunday produced two suspects — who were accused of stoning to death a 24-year-old woman, Waziran, in Jamshoro — before a joint investigation team (JIT) constituted to probe the incident. According to details, Waziran was stoned allegedly by her husband, Allah Baksh, and his brother. She later succumbed to her injuries. The police are reportedly treating the murder as honour killing. According to police, Waziran’s father, Gul Muhammad, had earlier testified that her death was an accident but later retracted his statement, claiming that his daughter was murdered by her in-laws. 14. KARACHI: Sharing the daily coronavirus situation report on Saturday, Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah informed that 42 more patients died of the virus, lifting the death toll to 1,501 while 1,585 new cases emerged when 10,718 samples were tested, raising the tally to 92,306 in the province. 15. KARACHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday overturned a Sindh High Court order to transfer the triple murder of a Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) office-bearer and his sons to an anti-terrorism court. The SHC in 2018 had sent the case to an ATC in Sukkur before transferring it again to a

district and sessions court in the same city. 16. KARACHI: Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, on Saturday claimed to have arrested two members of a banned outfit on charges of killing a worker of the Pak Sarzameen Party on sectarian grounds in Liaquatabad two days ago. 17. QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan said on Sunday that his government has initiated action against fake domicile holders and suspended 400 unverified or fake local domicile certificates. In a Tweet, Khan said that Mastung Deputy Commissioner has canceled domiciles of 400 people who had obtained jobs in the federal government’s departments on the Balochistan quota. 18. WEATHER: A thunderstorm followed by moderate rain hit the Lahore City here Saturday while Met Office predicted similar weather conditions for the next 24 hours. The storm started in the evening and continued for half an hour after which lightening and rain started. Almost every locality received rain. These included Ichhra, Shah Jamal, Shadman, Township, Green Town, Johar Town, Wapda Town, Mozang, Temple Road, Davis Road, Sanda, Islampura, Gulshan-eRavi, Samanabad, Alhamd Colony, Misri Shah, Shadbagh etc. Maximum temperature also dropped to 32 degree C due to the rain while the minimum was 29C. 19. ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office on Monday summoned a senior Indian diplomat to register Pakistan's "strong protest" at the ceasefire violations along the line of control (LoC) after the military said five civilians were injured by Indian firing in Nikial sector. The Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) said on Monday that three minor boys and two women were injured by "unprovoked ceasefire violations by Indian Army troops" along the LoC in Nikial sector on Sunday night. 2. ISLAMABAD: Secretariat Police Station on Sunday reunited a 23-year old missing disabled youth with his parents, the police spokesman said. Secretariat Police Station was informed about missing 23-year old Nabeel by his parents. They informed the police that they could not trace out their son despite hectic efforts. Following this information, SP (City) Omer Khan constituted a special team under the supervision of DSP Iqbal Khan to trace the missing boy. 3. ISLAMABAD: The homicide unit of Islamabad Police arrested a person who allegedly killed his tenant residing at his rented home in sector I-10/1, the police said on Sunday. According to details, Ayesha Yasmeen lodged the report with Sabzi Mandi Police Station on July 4, 2020 that she was residing with her husband Muhammad Kaleem at rented house in Street No 59, sector I-10/1. On the issue of rent, the owner of the house Nasir Mehmud pushed her husband and had a physical brawl with him following which he fell down and died on the spot. 4. ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Police have arrested 15 persons during the last 24 hours in its crackdown against drug pusher as well as criminal elements and recovered stolen bike, narcotics, wine and weapons from them, the police spokesman. 5. RAWALPINDI: Wah Cantonment Police Station in a crackdown against criminals and outlaws busted a 10-member inter-district and interprovincial dacoits’ gang. SP Pothohar Syed Ali said that the accused use to commit organized robberies in different districts. The ring leader of 10member robbers’ gang, Riaz Pathan was arrested while five other aides of this gang were already challaned, said the police spokesman. 6. RAWALPINDI: With the global health organisations informing that there is no specific medicine to treat COVID-19 there are many who are cashing in on the situation by selling fake medicines that according to them can kill coronavirus from the human body. 7. RAWALPINDI: The city traffic police have arrested 1,664 professional beggars on charges of begging alms from road users for the last month, informed the City Traffic Police (CTP) spokesman here on Sunday. Cases were registered against 34 professional beggars under 9Vagrancy Act with different police stations. CTP has launched grand operation following the instructions of Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) against professional beggars and held 1664 from roads, squares and outside shopping malls.

8. LAHORE: Lahore police registered 1,341 cases and sealed 2,002 shops on SOPs violations during the last two days. Police checked 2,292 markets and bazaars and 54,676 shops. Police gave warning to 43,586 shopkeepers. SSP Operations Lahore also directed the staff deployed at front desk to follow the SOPs and delay in registering online complaints would not be tolerated. 9. LAHORE: Three car riders were arrested for manhandling a traffic warden and lifter in-charge near vegetable market here on Sunday. The car riders had got infuriated upon being stopped over one-way violation and gave good thrashing to the traffic warden, Naseer, and warden lifter in-charge Ayub with iron rods. 10. FAISALABAD: A minor girl was abducted and murdered in the area of Khurarianwala police.According to a police spokesman, accused Shehbaz of Chak 216-RB had abducted a 7year-old Rani, daughter of Amanat Ali, over an old enmity with her family. Later, the accused murdered the girl. Police arrested the accused. 11. GUJRANWALA: Dacoits looted cash, cellphones and other valuables in 29 incidents here on Sunday. The armed men snatched cash and a cell phone from Ejaz, in Garjakh looted cash from Mehboob, in Sadar Kamoki bandits took away cash and gold ornaments from Mubeen, and in Fattumand Ejaz was deprived of cash. 12. SARGODHA: Police Sunday arrested seven drug peddlers and recovered narcotics from them. Police of different stations arrested seven accused and recovered 6.240 kg hashish, 810 kg opium and 2 pistols from the possession of accused persons. 13. LALAMUSA: A dacoity incident was reported here on Sunday. Unidentified dacoits entered the sanitary shop at Camping Ground and looted cash and other valuables. 14. LANDIKOTAL: Two youngsters drowned in river in Kam Shalman area while 17 picnickers were injured when their vehicle overturned in Charbagh area of Landikotal on Sunday, sources said. 15. MANSEHRA: The traders and residents of Nawazabad locality here on Sunday took to the streets seeking the blacktopping of Munda-Chucha road. The protesters chanted slogans against the Communications and Works department for failing to re-carpet the road after it was damaged by the 2005 earthquake. 16. KARACHI: The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) on Sunday defused a bomb found in the city’s Khairabad area. According to the Manghopir police, after they were informed about the presence of a bomb in the Khairabad area, a heavy contingent of the law enforcers, including the Sindh Rangers, cordoned off the area. Nobody was allowed to enter or exit the area. 17. KARACHI: A man was killed in a road accident on Sunday near the Habib Bank Flyover within the limits of the Site police station. After the accident, the police and rescuers attended the scene and moved the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH). The deceased is yet to be identified and the body is placed at the hospital’s morgue. 18. KARACHI: The Sindh Rangers have claimed that they have arrested five suspects, including target killers and dacoits. A spokesman for the paramilitary force said the Rangers soldiers arrested a suspect, Muhammad Ashar, in the Kala Pul area with the help of intelligence reports and shifted him to the Rangers headquarters for interrogation. 19. A three-year-old girl died after the wall of her home collapsed in Malir's Shamsi society, a spokesperson for the Edhi Foundation said. 20. WEATHER: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast 'near normal' rains in the country during the July-September monsoon period. According to it, the global Sea Surface Temperature forecast shows that El Nino Southern Oscillations and Indian Ocean Dipole are likely to remain neutral during the monsoon season. “Based on global and regional circulation models, monsoon rainfall is expected to remain near normal (+10%) in Pakistan from July to September 2020,� it said. The PMD, however, said Sindh and Azad Jammu and Kashmir are likely to receive moderately above normal (+20%) rainfall during the August-September period. It said the area weighted normal rainfall of Pakistan between July and September was 140.8 millimetres. As for the impacts of the monsoon rainfall, the PMD said there was a riverine flood potential in main rivers of the country. It warned that metropolitan cities faced flooding, while there's a high possibility of flash floods in hill torrents of Punjab province. The PMD said the monsoon rains would have good impact on rice crop and bad on cotton crop and would provide a conducive environment for locust breeding in deserts. ISLAMABAD: A day after the Sindh government made public the joint investigation team (JIT) report concerning notorious Lyari warlord Uzair Baloch, the government urged the Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmad to take notice of the report which it claimed was “tempered”. The appeal comes a day after the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government in the province disclosed the JIT reports of three high-profile cases — concerning Baloch, the Baldia factory fire incident and former Fishermen Cooperative Society chairman Nisar Morai — after much controversy and litigation in courts. 2. ISLAMABAD: Koral Police have arrested two bike lifters and recovered four stolen bikes from them, a police spokesman said. Police arrested two bike lifters identified as Zahid and Waqas, and recovered four stolen motorbikes from their possession. During the preliminary investigation, they confessed to lift these motorcycles from various areas of twin cities. They have already remained jail birds and cases have been registered against the nabbed persons. Further investigation is underway from them. 3. ISLAMABAD: Crime Investing Agency (CIA) of capital police have thwarted an attempt to smuggle narcotics from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to down parts of the country and arrested two persons in possession of cache of drugs, a police spokesman said. He said a CIA police team nabbed two drug pushers from Chungi no. 26 and Tarnol railway crossing during checking and recovered 5 kilogram hashish from them. They have been identified as Imran and Isfahan alias Kaka and both confessed during preliminary investigation to smuggle this cache of drug from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Islamabad and various cities of Punjab. 4. RAWALPINDI: Under an ongoing campaign against profiteering and hoarding, Rawalpindi District government has conducted 480 raids in different areas of the district and imposed fines amounting to Rs110,000 on 74 violators. 5. RAWALPINDI: Citizens deprived of millions of worth valuables, gold ornaments, motorcycles and vehicles in 52 Robberies in different precincts of Rawalpindi. Meanwhile, a citizen was injured on resistance with the robbers. In the limits of Racecourse Police station, Kamran was deprived of Mehran Car, in the limits of Sadiqabad Police station , Junaid was deprived of Rs2.7 million on account purchasing a car, while in the area of Kallar Sayedan Police station, the thieves took away 50 goats of Suleiman, police registered separate cases against the culprits. 6. RAWALPINDI: On instructions of Chief Traffic Police Officer Rawalpindi Syed Ali Akbar, crackdown was held against professional beggars in Rawalpindi city during June and as many as 1,664 professional vagrants were arrested. A Special Anti-Beggar Squad has been established. During crackdown on professional beggars, as many as 1,664 beggars were arrested by AntiBeggar Squad of Rawalpindi Traffic Police, which were shifted to lockups of different police stations of Rawalpindi. LAHORE: Valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees were gutted in a fire incident in a chemical shop in Urdu Bazar here on Monday. The fire started in a shop near Waris Nehari. Nearby people tried to extinguish it but failed. They called rescue teams. 8. LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday stayed a decision by the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) to suspend the license of news channel 24 News HD over “non-compliance with its terms of license”. The media regulatory body had on July 3 suspended with “immediate effect” the channel’s license for “illegal transmission of news and current affairs content”. Following the Pemra decision, the management announced to shut down the channel and issued one-month notices of termination of services to its 965 staffers. The court while issuing notices to the authority and the federal government sought their replies on the matter during Wednesday’s hearing. 9. LAHORE: A child of a destitute woman was tortured with an iron rod in the limits of Gujjarpura here on Monday. When the child demanded his two-month salary from his owners, who instead of giving him salary, hit him with an iron rod and fractured his arm. 10. LAHORE: A woman was tortured by a female security guard at Jinnah Hospital here on Monday. The woman was a private security guard at the hospital. The family members of the victim woman demanded justice and action against the security guards. 11. LAHORE: The government has allowed jail inmates throughout the jails of Punjab to conduct meetings with their blood relations after four months. After Covid-19 cases were reported in March in Punjab jails, the authorities had announced a ban on any sort of meetings with the inmates. IGP Prisons Shahid Saleem has issued orders to jail superintendents to allow meetings after ensuring SOPs. According to SOPs, only one blood relative can enjoy the privilege of the meeting after 15 days. Temperature of prisoners as well the relative will be checked before meeting using thermal gun thermometer. A distance of at least six feet will be maintained among both as well a plastic sheet will be erected. 12. LAHORE: DIG Operations Ashfaq Khan has said police officers should ensure a ban on kite-flying in their respective areas at any cost. He directed all officers to take strict action against kiteflying, selling and manufacturers. Ashfaq Khan said kite flyers are being captured through drone technology in densely populated areas. Parents should play a vital role in discouraging their children to fly kites. He said parents can also be subjected to any legal punishment for not stopping their children for kite flying. We can‘t allow any body to play this very harmful play, he said. Lahore police arrested 1,434 kite flyers during the month of June. City Division arrested 312, Cantt Division 356, Civil Lines Division 161, Sadar Division 139, Iqbal Town 268 and Modal Town Division 198. Police recovered 12,254 kites, 344 pellets, 789 merchandise, 430 strings from kite makers and flyers. 13. OKARA: Lahore Additional District and Sessions Judge Rana Muhammad Imran Shafi and his driver were injured in an accident at Okara Bypass on Monday. Reportedly, the judge and his driver Faryad Ali sustained injuries when a truck hit their car. The injured persons were shifted to DHQ Hospital. 14. FAISALABAD: The FIA on Monday arrested a man on the charge of making objectionable videos of small children and later blackmailing them and their families to pay him handsome money. 16. PESHAWAR: The district administration sealed four godowns and recovered 2000 kilograms rotten chickens in Nauthia here on Monday. The administration said that it had received complaints that that poultry shops in Nauthia were selling rotten chicken meat. The official raided the bazaar and seized 2000 kg of chickens. Four godowns were sealed and owners were arrested. A case was registered against the accused. 17. HARIPUR: A man has demanded registration of a murder case against his mother-in-law and brother-in-law for the alleged murder of his wife in Sera-e-Saleh village. Talking to newsmen here on Monday, Syed Bilal Hussain Shah said that he got married in the court with Rakhshanda Bibi, 25, who hailed from the same village, on August 8, 2019. But his in-laws told him they wanted to arrange proper rukhsati under the local customs for their honour. 18. HARIPUR: A court here on Monday acquitted a local journalist and PTI former woman district councillor in the murder case of a journalist, Bakhshish Elahi. 19. PARACHINAR: The elders of Turi and Bangash tribes here asked the govt to quash the cases against the tribal elders in connection with the clashes between the members of Balishkhel and Parachamkani tribes over the ownership of a piece of land in Kurram. Speaking at a jirga at the central imambargah in Parachinar, Allama Sheikh Fida Hussain, Sardar Hussain and others said that raids were being conducted to arrest tribal elders which was raising concerns. 20. KALAYA: The residents of Ferozkhel tribe in lower Orakzai tribal district staged a protest against the establishment of a checkpost by the officials of the Khyber Rifles. 21. MARDAN: Eight people were arrested and several kinds of weapons seized during an operation here on Monday. On the directive of District Police Officer Zahidullah, the police conducted an operation in Hoti area where they arrested eight people, including two proclaimed offenders, one drug dealer, two alleged abettors in various crimes. One Kalakov, four pistols, 47 bullets, and over 3kg charas, says a press release. 22. WANA: District Police seized 24 kilograms hashish and arrested the smuggler in the jurisdiction of Shaheed Mureed Akber Police Station, said officials on Monday. Talking to media Station House Officer Fahim Mumtaz said acting on a tip-off, the police team on the direction of District Police Officer Arif Khan checked a suspected car barring number ATE 959 near Kaur area which was allegedly smuggling hashish from South Waziristan tribal district to Punjab. The police recovered the hashish weighing 24 kilograms and arrested smuggler Sajid. 23. KARACHI: A man was killed in firing on a car within the limits of the New Karachi police station on Monday. The man was wounded when two persons targeted him in his car near Saleem Centre in North Karachi. Responding to information, police and rescuers reached the crime scene and transported the injured man to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The deceased person has been identified as 32-year-old Salman, son of Kabir.

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Monday issued notices to federal and provincial law officers, the home department, the inspector general of police and others on petitions against the illegal detentions of citizens allegedly by personnel of law enforcement agencies. Petitioners Asif Baloch and Syed Altaf Ali submitted in their petitions that police and personnel of other law enforcement agencies took Amir Ali and Saddam Hussain from Orangi Town and PECHS Block 6 areas during raids and their whereabouts were still unknown. 25. WEATHER: Hot and humid weather was reported in the city here Monday while the Met office predicted similar weather conditions for the next 24 hours. Met officials said that seasonal low lies over northeast Balochistan. Moist monsoon currents are penetrating northeastern and southern parts of the country. Weak westerly wave is also affecting upper parts of the country. They predicted mainly hot and humid weather in most parts of the country. ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered the law secretary to immediately seek instructions from the government for setting up at least 120 accountability courts to clear a huge backlog of cases. The directives were issued by the apex court after expressing dismay over 1,226 pending references since the year 2000 as well as vacancies in five accountability courts out of a total of 25. 2. ISLAMABAD: Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav has refused to file an appeal in the Islamabad High Court against his conviction and subsequent death sentence by a military court despite authorities' offer to do so, officials said on Wednesday. Instead, officials added, Jadhav had decided to apply for a mercy petition. Jadhav — a serving commander of the Indian Navy associated with Indian spy agency Research and Analysis Wing — was arrested on March 3, 2016, from Balochistan on allegations of espionage and terrorism. 3. ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Thursday announced to reopen educational institutions across the country, which were closed in March in a bid to curtail the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, from September 15 if “health indicators improved” by the time. The announcement comes a day after an inter-provincial education ministers’ conference presided by Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood decided to reopen schools in the first week of September. 4. ISLAMABAD: The accountability court-1 of Islamabad on Wednesday dismissed the plea seeking acquittal of former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and others in the Naudero-II Rental Power Project (RPP) case. Accountability judge Mohammad Bashir dismissed the petition seeking acquittal of Mr Ashraf, former federal secretary Shahid Rafi, former managing director of Pepco Tahir Basharat Cheema, Tariq Nazeer, Abdul Malik, Rasool Khan Mehsood, Sheikh Zarar Aslam, Razi Abbas and Wazir Khan Bhaio. They have been accused of causing Rs7.5 million loss to the national exchequer. 5. ISLAMABAD: Islamabad police have arrested 26 outlaws from various areas of the city and recovered stolen vehicle, hashish, wine, valuables and weapons from their possession, a police spokesman said. According to details, Secretariat police arrested an accused Chan Zaib and recovered 1.115 kilogram hashish from him. 6. ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Council of Research for Water Resources (PCRWR) has declared 12 brands of bottled mineral water unsafe for drinking due to presence of higher levels of sodium, low level of pH and high level of Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) and microbiologically contamination. ISLAMABAD: A significant reduction has been witnessed in fatal road accidents during 2020 as compared to corresponding period of last year and traffic management also got improved on the busy roads of the Capital despite construction work in various areas of the city. According to the data, 35 percent reduction has been witnessed in fatal road accidents and 16 percent in non-fatal accidents occurred in 2020 as compared to the corresponding period of 2019. 8. ISLAMABAD: The bill on Domestic Violence (Protection and Prevention) Bill 202 prepared by Ministry of Human Rughts has been presented in National Assembly of Pakistan on Wednesday. The purpose of introducing this Bill is to protect the rights of women, children, elders and other vulnerable persons who are victims of domestic violence. Such violence includes physically aggressive acts like hitting, kicking, slapping, and throwing objects as well as emotionally abusive acts like threats, emotional and economic abuse. 9. RAWALPINDI: A journalist working for a private TV channel has been arrested for allegedly killing his wife in Rawalpindi's Yousuf Colony, it emerged on Wednesday. According to the FIR registered at Airport Police Station by the victim's sister, the incident occurred on June 29. In the complaint, she stated that the suspect, identified as Ali Salman Alvi, called her from her sister's phone at 2pm saying that he was "ruined" and the victim, identified as Sadaf Zahra, had "done something", before hanging up. She rushed to their home, along with her husband and mother, where they found the suspect standing at the main door while the rest of the doors had been locked from the inside, the FIR said. 12. LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday directed the government to form a highlevel commission to hold an inquiry into the fuel crisis that recently affected the country amid the coronavirus pandemic. The LHC bench, under Chief Justice Qasim Ali Khan, heard the case related to the recent fuel shortage and hoarding of petroleum products that led to a hike in petroleum prices. 13. LAHORE: Punjab commissioners no longer have the special powers to conduct trials on price control and sentence people after the Lahore High Court (LHC) suspended the provincial government’s June 18 notification on Thursday. A man had filed a petition against the notification and said that the powers of the executive and judiciary are different. The notification is against the Constitution. The court has asked the Punjab government to submit a detailed reply on it. 14. LAHORE: One dacoit was killed and two escaped from the spot during police encounter conducted in the limits of Gujjarpura police station. According to details, some victims lodged complaints with the Gujjarpura police station that dacoits were looting people in the area. As the police reached the spot the dacoits opened fire. An official told Dawn that DSP Allama Iqbal learned about the presence of two outlaws, including proclaimed offender Naseer Khan, in a house of Khaat Killi area and led a police party to raid the premises. He said after entering the house, the DSP asked the wanted man to surrender but the latter shot the former down and attacked other policemen, who retaliated leaving Naseer dead. 18. PESHAWAR: A judicial commission tasked with probing the incident of stripping and torturing of a person in custody by the local police on Wednesday recorded statements of three police officials. The provincial government had constituted the single-member commission comprising Justice Lal Jan Khattak of the Peshawar High Court after consultation with the court’s chief justice on Jun 29. 19. PESHAWAR: A deputy superintendent of police (DSP) was martyred while two constables sustained injuries during an encounter in the Swabi district on Wednesday. MANSEHRA: A young boy died after falling into an abandoned well in Upper Channia area on Wednesday. Shabbir Dar, 7, was playing along with his friends when he suddenly fell into the well. A Rescue 1122 team rushed to the spot and shifted him to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital after retrieving him from the well, but the doctors pronounced him dead. 21. LAKKI MARWAT: Five persons killed in a road mishap in South Waziristan district were laid to rest in the Mammakhel village here on Wednesday. The sources said that 24 people from Mammakhel were on their way back to the village from Machen Neka Shrine when their overspeeding van fell from a bridge at Badr village. 22. KARACHI: At least four people died of electrocution in different neighbourhoods of Karachi on Wednesday, police, rescue services and hospital officials said, as parts of the city received monsoon rains for the third day. Mohammed Rafiq, 50, was riding a motorcycle when an electric wire fell on him on Habib Rehmatullah Road popularly known as Stadium Road near Kingri House. He died on the spot. The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) to fulfil legal formalities.

23. KARACHI: A shop owner, who was also a retired Rangers official, lost his life on Wednesday after unidentified men hurled a Russian grenade at a shop in Karachi’s Sacchal Goth area. According to police, the incident took place at a bakery, Hunzila Bakers and Sweets, located in Bilawal Shah Noorani Goth within the jurisdiction of the Sacchal police station. Following the incident, a contingent of law enforcers including police and Rangers reached the crime scene and cordoned off the area. The deceased was identified as Malik Ashiq Husain, 68, son of Ameer Khan, who was a retired Rangers inspector, said SHO Safdar Abbasi. 24. KARACHI: The body of a man was found in the city on Wednesday. According to the Napier police station, the body of a man was found at a house located near Lea Market. Rescuers reached the property after neighbours informed them and transported the body, which is said to be four-day-old, to the Civil Hospital for medico-legal formalities where he was identified as 31-year-old Zubair, son of Hanif. The victim apparently ended his life by hanging himself from a ceiling fan. A case has been registered while an investigation is under way. 25. KARACHI: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of the Sindh police on Wednesday arrested a suspect allegedly involved in firing on a police mobile and dozens of street crime cases in Karachi. According to CTD in-charge Chaudhry Safdar, the CTD police arrested the man, identified as Faizan, during a raid conducted in Zaman Town after they received a tip-off. Chaudhry Safdar said the suspect admitted that he shot at the police mobile while fleeing the scene after committing a robbery about a couple of months ago. 26. KARACHI: The Sindh Rangers have arrested 13 suspects, including alleged extortionists. dispute. The case was put on trial in the court of additional and sessions judge, which was transferred to modal court last month. DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Three masked gunmen shot dead a man during a volleyball match in Toi Paniala in the jurisdiction of Nawab police station on Thursday. Eyewitnesses said that the three masked armed men targeted one Pir Nauman Ali, a resident of Pir Khakishah, Paniala, when he was watching a volleyball match in Toi Paniala. He sustained critical bullet injuries and was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his wounds. The assailants fled the scene after committing the crime. 20. KARACHI: Four people were injured in incidents of firing in parts of the city on Thursday.According to the Aziz Bhatti police, an elderly man was wounded in a firing incident that took place in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. The injured was identified as 61-year-old Marghoob, son of Moin. The man was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). The police said the man was injured for resisting a mugging bid and that a case had been registered. 21. KARACHI: The Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC) of the Karachi police on Thursday claimed to have arrested three suspected motorcycle thieves. According to a spokesperson for the AVLC, the suspects were arrested during a raid conducted in Gadap Town for being involved in snatching and stealing motorcycles. One of the arrested suspects, Asif alias Aasi, was the son of a notorious car lifter, Abdul Majeed Lashari. Two motorcycles, one kilogram of hashish and arms were recovered from their possession. Police said the suspects were habitual criminals. Cases have been registered against them while an investigation is under way. 22. KARACHI: Police on Thursday registered a case after unidentified persons opened fire outside the residence of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) lawmaker in the Defence Housing Authority. KARACHI: Sindh’s Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Thursday claimed to have arrested four suspects, including a target killer, during a raid carried out in the Malir City area on the basis of a tip-off. CTD incharge Ali Raza identified the suspects as Farhan Ali, Mazhar, Atif and Farrukh Shahzad. He said weapons were also recovered from the men’s possession. The official said Ali was affiliated with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London (MQM-L) and had admitted to murdering at least five people, Mazhar headed the MQM-L’s Unit 99 and was also responsible for supplying arms and ammunition, and the other suspects were involved in extortion. 25. KARACHI: A station house officer (SHO) and three other policemen were suspended on Thursday after two suspects managed to escape from the police lock-up in the Korangi Industrial Area police station. According to police, two suspects, identified as Usman and Noor, escaped from the lock-up. Police said both the suspects had been arrested in a theft case and were on remand. LAHORE: A woman was responsible for torturing her four-year-old niece in Lahore, it came to light on Saturday. As per the details, the incident occurred in Lahore’s Nishtar Colony, where an aunt subjected her niece to brutal torture with a hot knife. According to police, the parents of the girl left their child at her aunt’s house after a fight over a domestic matter, while further investigation into the matter was underway. The police have arrested the woman after registering a case against her. 5. LAHORE: An inquiry report that led to removal of Judge Arshad Malik from service on charges of misconduct says the judicial officer failed to prove that he acted under “duress” because of sympathisers of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif whom he convicted in one of the two National Accountability Bureau (NAB) references. The 13-page inquiry report, also available with Dawn, says: “There appears to have been no evidence that the accused officer went in fear of death or serious bodily injury, nor was any attempt made to show that the accused officer could not escape from the persons concerned.” 6. LAHORE: Child Protection and Welfare Bureau (CP&WB) has taken a 4-year old girl into its Custody and care as her Phupho (paternal aunt) used to torture her. The girl, Mehak, is not an orphan. Her father and mother are both alive. Her father is a drug addict. Her mother could not cope with her husband’s addiction and left him and the child. Mehak’s mother has reportedly contracted a second marriage. Her father gave her in custody of his sister who would beat the child mercilessly.

8. LAHORE: The city district administration on Saturday imposed Rs 59,000 fine on 20 shops for selling the sugar at the higher rates than the officially-fixed rate. During a crackdown on sugar overcharging, the price control magistrates of the city administration checked sugar prices at 321 shops. Twenty cases were registered against profiteers. 9. LAHORE: A member of a gang who uploaded the firing into the air and violent videos on social media was arrested along with two accomplices while raids are being carried out to nab other accused. CCPO Lahore Zulfiqar Hameed took notice of the videos. SP Cantt Furqan Bilal had ordered the arrest of the accused. Police arrested three members of Bhatti group, including Jamil alias Jhela and Qaiser Bhatti. 10. PESHAWAR: An alleged bike snatcher was killed in an encounter in Chamkani area on Saturday, an official said. An official said that two armed robbers had snatched motorbike from a young man but the police intercepted them near Kala Khwarh near Tarnab during a routine checking. As police signalled the snatchers to stop, one of them opened fire on police that triggered an exchange of fire. “One Ikram, a resident of Rawalpindi, was killed in the encounter,” said the official. 11. MANSEHRA: A young girl was killed after being hit by a bullet allegedly fired by her brother while taking a selfie with her in Talian Di Kasi area here on Saturday. 12. KOHISTAN: Upper Kohistan police have destroyed cannabis grown in several areas of Kandia, a conservative and far-off tehsil of the district. “The areas are remote where one can reach by walking for hours,” Arif Javed, the district police officer Upper Kohistan, told reporters on Saturday. He said the operation was started on the special directives of deputy inspector general of police Hazara range. He said that villages where the contraband was grown were situated at boundary points Swat on the one side and Ghizer (Gilgit-Baltistan) on the other. 13. LAKKI MARWAT: The police arrested two outlaws and seized arms and ammunition from them in two separate raids here on Saturday, official sources said. They said that acting on a tip-off, the police parties headed by SHO Zafarullah Khan conducted raids in Begukhel village and Wanda Kalenand arrested Sajjad son of Mashal Khan from Wanda Kalen while Sher Afzal son of Umar Khan at Begukhel. They were wanted to the police in cases of heinous nature. The police seized three guns, two pistols and several magazines. 14. JAMRUD: Unidentified motorcyclists shot dead two persons and injured another in two different places in Jamrud tehsil in Khyber district. According to details, unknown bike riders opened indiscriminate fire on Saifoor Khan in Ghariza area in the Jamrud tehsil. As a result, Saifoor killed on the spot while one Ajmal Khan also came under attack and sustained critical injuries. The locals rushed the injured person to the hospital for medical treatment. In another similar incident, unidentified gunmen shot dead Nasir Khan, an Afghan national, in Jamalkhel area of Jamrud tehsil. 15. NORTH WAZIRISTAN: Two more people fell victim to targeted killing in different areas here on Saturday, police said. The first incident took place in Mubarak Shahi area near Mirali Town, when masked men riding a motorcycle opened fire on a pedestrian on Miramshah-Bannu Road. The deceased was identified as Abdul Hadi. His body was brought to the tehsil headquarters hospital, Mirali. KARACHI: The federal government on Saturday promised the people of Karachi that there would be no unannounced electricity load shedding in the city from Sunday after it decided to increase the supply of furnace oil and gas to K-Electric. The announcement was made by Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar while addressing reporters alongside Sindh Governor Imran Ismail and K-Electric Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Moonis Alvi at a protest gathering by the PTI’s Karachi chapter. 17. ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly is set to begin on Monday (today) a debate on the privatisation policy of the government besides taking up two crucial bills seeking amendments to the anti-terrorism act to fulfil international commitments and certain requirements of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) when the lower house will resume its session after a two-day recess. According to the 22-point agenda issued by the National Assembly Secretariat for the sitting, Minister for Interior retd Brig Ijaz Shah will move the two bills seeking amendments to sections 2, 6, 9A and 11O in the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) 1997 and insertion of a new section 11OOO in it before the house for passage. 4. ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday issued its detailed order on the petition filed by sugar mill owners against the government action based on the report prepared by a sugar committee, saying the inquiry commission had conducted the proceedings “in the most professional and fair manner” however its recommendations are not binding nor have any legal effect. On June 20, Chief Justice Athar Minallah told the lawyers of the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association that the court will not extend the stay order barring the government from taking action against mill owners. On June 11, the court restrained the government from taking any action on the basis of the sugar commission’s inquiry report for 10 days. He gave the reasoning for his verdict in a 35-page detailed order. 5. ISLAMABAD: The National Command and Control Centre (NCOC) on Monday decided to allow cattle markets to operate only between 6am to 7pm ahead of Eidul Azha. Federal Minister for Planning and NCOC chief Asad Umar announced the decision during the national body’s first provincal level meeting held in Lahore. “The movement of cattle and people between villages and cities increases the risk of the virus spreading,” the minister acknowledged, adding that better management of livestock markets was essential to preventing its spread.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Monday announced the reopening of the Wagah border crossing from July 15 to resume exports from Afghanistan to India. “At the special request of the government of Afghanistan and with a view to facilitating Afghanistan’s transit trade, Pakistan has decided to resume Afghan exports through Wagah border crossing from 15 July 2020, after implementing Covid-19 related protocols,” said a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “With this step, Pakistan has fulfilled its commitments under Pakistan-Afghanistan Transit Trade Agreement (APTTA),” the statement added, referring to a 2010 bilateral trade agreement, which provides Afghan traders access to eastern Wagah border with India, where Afghan goods are offloaded onto Indian trucks. The agreement, however, does not permit Indian goods to be loaded onto trucks for transit back to Afghanistan. 7. ISLAMABAD: Crime Investing Agency (CIA) of Islamabad police has thwarted an attempt to smuggle narcotics and arrested two persons in possession of a cache of drugs, the police spokesman said. Following orders of IGP Islamabad Muhammad Aamir Zulfiqar Khan, he said that DIG (Operations) Waqar Uddin Syed had categorically directed all police officers to accelerate their efforts against drug dealers/smugglers and curb this menace from Capital. 8. ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Police have arrested 10 outlaws including a car lifter and recovered narcotics, stolen car, and weapons from them, the police spokesman said. DIG (Operations) Waqar Ud din Syed has directed all zonal officers to accelerate their efforts to curb the crime and drug pushing in the whole city and said that no laxity would be tolerated in this regard. ACLC police arrested a car lifter namely Zubair Khan and recovered a stolen car from him. 9. RAWALPINDI: A 68-year-old expat British Pakistani and his daughter-in-law were shot at and injured by unknown robbers at Rawat-Kallar Syedan Road. The family of expatriate Pakistanis was robbed of millions of worth gold ornaments and foreign currency early on Sunday near Sagri village at Rawat-Kallar Syedan Road on their arrival from Britain at Islamabad International Airport. 10. MULTAN: A dacoit was killed during an encounter at Chak 68 on Permit Road in the limits of Sadar Jalalpur Pirwala police on Sunday morning. According to police, dacoit Fida Hussain s/o Akbar Ali was in police custody and a police party was taking him to a place for recovery of booty. In the meantime, his four armed accomplices started firing at the police party, which was retaliated by them. 11. LAHORE: The Punjab government on Monday announced to start sampling in all jails of the province in order to contain coronavirus. In the first phase, a smart sampling of 30 prisoners and 10 staff members will be conducted, according to Punjab Inspector General of Prisons Mirza Shahid Saleem Baig. Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department Punjab will take samples of prisoners and staff members under the “smart sampling project” to “detect and determine the spread of Covid-19”. 12. LAHORE: A 55-year-old man was killed by a speeding car in the Shahdara Town area on Sunday. 14. LAHORE: A 55-year-old man was severely injured by a speeding bike near Kharak drain, Multan Road on Sunday. The victim identified as Ejaz Ahmad suffered leg fracture was admitted to hospital. 15. LAHORE: Punjab police checked 195,924 shops across the Punjab Province since June 6, sealed and closed 21,531 shops so far for SOPs violation. Besides, 275,568 motorcycles, 87,563 cars and 55,577 public transport vehicles were checked out of which 124,146 vehicles were imposed fine by civil administration on violations of government instructions to protect from COVID-19. Likewise, with respect to implementation of SOPs, 288,129 citizens were intercepted for checking and 45,805 persons fined by civil administration on violations of SOPs. On July 11, 13,889 shops were inspected across the province and 218 sealed and closed for violations of SOPs. Likewise, 7,108 motorcycles, 2,127 cars and 1,536 public transport vehicles were checked. Civil administration imposed fines on 2,761 vehicles. Collectively, 5,626 citizens were checked and 420 citizens fined by civil admin for violations of SOPs. 16. WAZIRASTAN: Four soldiers of the Pakistan Army were martyred during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in North Waziristan, the military's media affairs wing said on Sunday. In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said: "Four terrorists were killed during an IBO in Vezhda Sar, eight kilometres southwest of Boya, Miranshah, North Waziristan district. 17. DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Three persons of a family were killed and as many sustained injuries in a head on collision between a motorcycle and a landcruiser near Girah Ahmad Morr on DeraDaraban road on Sunday. Eyewitness said that a speeding landcruiser hit a motorcycle near Girah Ahmad Morr on Dera-Daraban road. As a result, a woman and her son and daughter killed on the spot while her husband and a son and daughter sustained injuries. The injured were rushed to Mufti Mahmood Memorial Teaching Hospital in Dera Ismail Khan. It was learnt that a lawyer from Peshawar was driving the landcruiser, who was in a hurry to appear in a case in a court in Quetta. 18. TIMERGARA: A 12-year old bride died under mysterious circumstances on the third day of her wedding at Mohabbat Koto village in Samarbagh area in Lower Dir here on Sunday, police said. A joint team of Lal Qila and Samarbagh police stations visited the house of Naila after receiving information about her death and shifted the body to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Samarbagh. Lodging the first information report (FIR) at Samarbagh Police Station, one Wazir Khan, father-in-law of the girl, told the police that his 13-year-old son Ameenullah married Naila three days ago. He said that the bride was feeling unwell so they sent her back to her father’s house where she died mysteriously. 19. NOWSHERA: The police seized a huge quantity of drugs and arrested an alleged smuggler on the Grand Trunk Road in the jurisdiction of Azakhel Police Station on Sunday. A police party led by Azakhel Police Station House Officer (SHO) Saifullah barricaded the GT Road for checking the smuggling of drugs and other contrabands at Ajab Bagh area in the district. A suspicious car (258-KD) coming from Peshawar was signalled to stop for checking. Upon thorough search, the police recovered 47.5 kilograms of opium from the secret cavities of the car. The police arrested the alleged smuggler Syed Raza Shah Taqi, a resident of Rawalpindi, and impounded the car. 20. MINGORA: A man and his son were killed while three others sustained injuries during clash on a land dispute in Nawan Killay area in Mingora in Swat district on Sunday. PESHAWAR: A retired professor on Saturday asked the authorities concerned to provide him justice by taking action against the land mafia. KARACHI: Preparations are being made for test trial of Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project, as six-month deadline set by the Supreme Court for making this project functional, is approaching next month. Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Shalwani held a meeting regarding the revival of the Karachi Circular Railways (KCR) on Sunday at the Pakistan Railway’s divisional superintendent office. KARACHI: Residents across Karachi experienced a two-hour suspension of cable television and internet services on Monday evening after cable and internet operators announced a "token strike" against what they termed as the "high-handedness" of the K-Electric (KE). KARACHI: A man lost his life while six others, including policemen, were injured in traffic accidents that occurred in parts of the city on Sunday. According to the Site Superhighway police, an 18-year-old boy died and another was wounded when a speedy vehicle hit their motorcycle on Superhighway. 29. GWADAR: A local religious leader, Maulana Irshadullah, was shot dead inside his madressah in Panjgur district of Makran division on Sunday, police said. Maulana Irshad, who was head of Madressah Ahsan-ul-Madaaris, Chit-k-an, was sitting in his office when arm-ed men riding a motorcycle opened fire on his office. “Maulana Irshadullah received multiple bullet injuries and died,� a police officer told. He said another man sitting with the cleric received bullet injuries. He was shifted to the district hospital where his condition is said to be serious. The attackers fled. 30. LAHORE: A notice of accountability court (Islamabad) was displayed at Jati Umra and Model Town residences of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday, directing him to appear before it on Aug 17 in the Toshakhana reference. 14. LAHORE: An accountability court on Wednesday extended the judicial remand of Punjab Assembly Opposition Leader Hamza Shehbaz till July 28 in an asset beyond means case. During the hearing, the court asked the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor to explain the haste in filing the reference against the PML-N vice-president. To this, the prosecutor responded that according to the procedure, the reference is filed once the investigation into the case is completed. The court, then, directed the bureau to file the reference at the earliest and adjourned the hearing until July 28. The bureau arrested Hamza last year for allegedly holding assets beyond known sources of income. 15. LAHORE: A civil miscellaneous application has been filed in the Lahore High Court demanding an immediate ban on a famous mobile phone video application, TikTok. Advocate Nadeem Sarwar moved the application on behalf of a citizen who is a petitioner in a main petition pending with the court. 16. MULTAN: Famed surgeon and vice chancellor of Multan's Nishtar Medical University, Dr Mustafa Kamal Pasha, passed away on Wednesday — a month after contracting the novel coronavirus. Dr Pasha was diagnosed with Covid-19 on June 14 and was under treatment at Ch Pervaiz Elahi Institute of Cardiology, Nishtar Medical University's principal Dr Iftikhar said. 17. RAHIM YAR KHAN: Police on Tuesday registered a case and arrested a man who allegedly threw acid on his students in a locality of Sadiqabad city, some 32 kilometres from here. According to first information report registered under section 336-B of Pakistan Penal Code, complainant Riaz Hussain of Haq Town said Osama used to teach the Holy Quran to his son Hasnain Ali (14) and other neighbouring children. 18. KARACHI: Police on Tuesday submitted a charge sheet before a judicial magistrate against some officials of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) in a case pertaining to the collapse of a multistorey building in Gulbahar, saying the illegal construction was allowed against a bribe. Twenty-seven people had lost their lives when the multistorey building collapsed in March this year. 19. KARACHI: Two people lost their lives in separate firing incidents in different parts of the city on Tuesday. A man was shot dead at a cattle farm in Sherpao Colony. Rescuers transported the body to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities where he was identified as 30-year-old Asif, son of Aslam. 20. KARACHI: The Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC) of the Karachi police on Tuesday arrested eight suspects allegedly involved in motorcycle theft across the city. HARIPUR: A man has shot dead his wife in a remote village of Dingi Union Council, police said on Tuesday. The officials of the Kotnajibullah Police Station said that Muhammad Arshad, a resident of village Pehdiyan, had an altercation with his wife Shamim Bibi, 28, over preparing lunch. The short-tempered man allegedly beat his wife mercilessly before opening fire on her with a 30-bore pistol, killing her on the spot. The police shifted the body to Rural Health Centre Kotnajibullah and arrested the accused. It was the second murder of a married woman during the last two weeks in Haripur. 22. CHAGAI: Members of civil society and the family of a man, who was found dead in police custody in Kharan under mysterious circumstances on Monday, staged a demonstration outside the Kharan Press Club to protest against his alleged extra-judicial killing. 23. PANJGUR: Three soldiers were martyred and eight others injured when terrorists opened fire on security forces in Balochistan's Panjgur district, the military's media wing said on Tuesday. The militants carried out the "fire raid" when the security personnel were on routine patrol near Gichak valley in Panjgur's Kahan area, according to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement. The injured soldiers include an officer. Five of the injured security personnel are in critical condition, the statement said. 24. WEATHER: Met Office predicted rain-thunder showers in Islamabad, upper and central Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. According to the Met Office, there were chances of rain in the Potohar region which will likely drop the temperature. The District Health Authority issued the health advisory to prevent the harmful effects of heat. The ‘heat stroke advisory’ was issued by Chief Executive Officer Dr Sohail Ahmed and District Surveillance Coordinator Dr Mohammad Ali Mirza. The advisory has informed the citizens that the temperature may exceed 45°C in the coming days. Strict adherence to the advisory is needed to avoid harmful effects of heat stroke. In a statement, the foreign minister said that consular access was given according to the terms agreed upon. "India's ill intentions have come to light. They didn't want consular access. Jadhav — a serving commander of the Indian Navy associated with Indian spy agency Research and Analysis Wing — was arrested on March 3, 2016, from Balochistan on allegations of espionage and terrorism. 2. ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) filed in the Supreme Court on Wednesday a review petition seeking deletion of the court’s directives in its June 19 majority judgement requiring verification by the tax authorities of three offshore properties in the name of the wife and children of Justice Qazi Faez Isa. “These directives, observations and contents from paragraphs three to 11 are unnecessary, superfluous, contradictory, excessive and unlawful and thus liable to be deleted from the short order,” pleaded the petition filed through SCBA president Syed Qalb-e-Hassan. 3. ISLAMABAD: The Capital Police have been directed to continue strict action against those illegal occupying the properties of others and involved in harassing people to grab their lands. 4. ISLAMABAD: Police have arrested 17 outlaws including five car and bike lifters and recovered stolen car, four motorbikes, narcotics, fake currency and weapons from them, the police spokesman said. Bani Gala Police Station arrested three members of a bike lifters’ gang. They have been identified as Anwar, Altaf and Ejaz. Police also recovered three stolen motorbikes from their possession. RAWALPINDI: Three persons including two women have been arrested for allegedly manhandling an on duty traffic warden from Attock. 7. MARDAN: Nine accused were arrested in cases of gambling and motorbike lifting on Wednesday. On the directives of DPO Dr Zahidullah, the police raided Hoti area and arrested an accused in murder case and six accused in gambling along with the money on bet. BATKHELA: Malakand district administration has arrested a settlement patwari and suspended five others over alleged corruption, an official said on Wednesday. Speaking to journalists, Deputy Commissioner Rehan Gul Khattak said that there the land records does not exist in Malakand district. “There is no fee for land settlement issues but we received a complaint that some patwaris are getting money from people. On one such complaint, we nabbed a settlement patwari and recovered Rs150,000 that he had got from farmers for land settlement,” the official said. 9. LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday issued a stay order against the Punjab government’s decision to impose a 17 percent sales tax on flour. During the hearing, the plaintiff informed Justice Shahid Karim that, according to business rules and regulations, a sales tax cannot be imposed on flour. The millers said the provincial government is making efforts to reduce flour price on one hand and imposing a tax on the other, which they said was dishonest practice. They requested the court to nullify the government’s decision. The LHC approved the petition for hearing while issuing a stay order against the imposition of sales tax. 10. LAHORE: Three people died when a dumper hit their bikes on Bhati Chowk here on Wednesday. The dumper driver could not control the vehicle either due to over speeding or brakes failure and rammed into bikes. As a result, three people died and one sustained injuries. Nearby people called the rescue teams who reached the spot and shifted the victims to hospital. The bodies could not be identified till filing of the report. 11. KARACHI: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on Wednesday announced it has verified and cleared the licences of almost 96 pilots out of the 104 names it received from various foreign counterparts and international airlines. In a letter to the director for air traffic control services at Oman’s Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA), Mubarak Saleh al-Gheilani, CAA DirectorGeneral Hassan Nasir Jamy said it was crucial “to clarify that all CPL / ATPL Pilot licences issued by the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) are genuine and validly issued”. 12. KARACHI: In what appears to be a direct contradiction to the aviation minister’s allegation that almost 40 per cent of Pakistani pilots possessed ‘fake licences’, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has said that all commercial/airline transport pilots licences (CPL/ATPL) it issued “are genuine and validly issued”. “It is important to clarify that all CPL/ATPL pilot licences issued by the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority are genuine and validly issued. None of the pilot licences are fake, rather the matter has been misconstrued and incorrectly highlighted in the media/social media,” wrote CAA Director General Hassan Nasir Jamy in a letter dated July 13 to a high-ranking aviation official of Oman. 13. KARACHI: The Sindh government has extended a province-wide lockdown enforced to curb the spread of the coronavirus until Aug 15. Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah on Thursday said the lockdown was being extended to “protect the lives of people”. He further said that following standard operating procedures (SOPs) was the need of the time, adding that it was “important that SOPs are strictly followed in mosques, offices and bazaars“. 14. KARACHI: A policeman was seriously wounded in the third attack on the law enforcement agencies in Karachi in one-and-a-half weeks. Police Constable Muhammad Hanif was wounded critically in a firing incident that took place late on Tuesday night in the Babar Market area within the jurisdiction of the Landhi police station. 15. KARACHI: Two suspected members of the Lyari gang war were arrested during a raid conducted on a tip-off in Saadi Town on Wednesday. The suspects were arrested by a law enforcement agency; however, the arrests were not disclosed. The suspects, Imam Buksh and Wasim, were brothers. Police said the men were affiliated with the Jamil Changa and Agha Zikri groups, and ran a drugs network in the Old Golimar area. Recently, they killed two people by resorting to firing at a drugs den. They were also wanted to police in various cases of murder, attempted murders and extortion. 16. KARACHI: The Federal Investigation Agency on Wednesday claimed to have arrested a key operative of the spy agency of India in Karachi. The FIA said the suspect was identified as Zafar Khan whose arrest was made by the agency’s anti-terrorist wing. KARACHI: Two men lost their lives and another was injured in road accidents occurred in the city on Wednesday. 21. WEATHER: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted rain and thunder in Karachi from Friday (today) in the second spell of the downpour this season. According to PMD Director Sardar Sarfaraz, the spell would last a day or two and would be preceded by dusty winds. “Initially we had said that the second spell would start from July 15 but then the situation changed and it appeared that it would start after July 20. “[However], a similar low-pressure area has developed almost in the same place as in the first spell, around the Indian Rann of Kutch and the Arabian Sea,” he said, adding that some areas of Sindh, including Tharparkar, Badin and Thatta have already seen some rain. “There might be light rain in areas of Karachi tonight and it is expected that there will be thunder and rain along with strong winds from tomorrow.” The official said the temperature in Karachi could range between 38 and 40 degrees Celsius today (Thursday) but would be “considerably reduced” after tomorrow’s rainfall. 22. ISLAMABAD: The government will table the International Court of Justice (Review and Reconsideration) Ordinance, 2020 in the National Assembly next week for approval, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Parliamentary Affairs Babar Awan told The News. “In no way has the national interest or security been compromised by the promulgation of this ordinance. Therefore, the political hullaballoo is not justified or fair,” he felt. The ordinance, which has a 120 days’ life if not passed by the Parliament, enables convicted Indian spy Kulbhushan Yadav to approach the high court for “review and reconsideration” of the sentence imposed on him by the military court. It is a sort of appeal. 2. ISLAMABAD: Justice Qazi Faez Isa on Monday approached the Supreme Court seeking a review of its June 19 majority order requiring the verification of three offshore properties in his wife and children's name by tax authorities. Filed through senior counsel Munir A. Malik, the petition argued that the top court's short order had "material errors of facts and jurisdiction". It added that many of these were in respect to matters with regard to which neither Justice Isa nor his family were heard. 3. ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad police, previous days, have seized a a number of kidnappers including the kingpin the organised racket involved in kidnapping for ransom activities in Khyber Pakhtunkhawa and the federal capital. “The shark was a symbol of terror and fear among the people of KP. The KP police were trying to recapture the criminals for over one and a half decades but couldn’t get them because the racketeers have changed their hideouts,” the KP police, dealing with the case, said when contacted by this correspondent. Bala Gujar was also wanted to KP Police in different heinous offences. But the KP police were reluctant to transfer the custody of the gangsters wanted for decades. The seven-member gang led by inciter – Mohammad Iqbal popularly known as Bala Gujar – kidnapped a businessman of Islamabad, Rehmat Niaz from G/10-1 in April 2020 and confined him in an apartment and demanded Rs50 million for his release but he managed to escape in the same night, people engaged in the investigation of the case said. 4. LAHORE: Shalamar police arrested two youths for uploading a video of illicit weapons on the social media. The arrested accused have been identified as Kashif Aslam and Zaheer. Police also recovered three weapons from their possession. The accused had uploaded the video a few days ago, police said. 10. LAHORE: An 8-year-old boy was killed and his parents and a sister were injured by a speeding bus in the Sanda area on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Ayan. He along with his father Amir, mother and a sister was on his way on a bike when a speeding bus dashed into their bike. As the result, Ayan died and his family members were injured badly. The bus driver escaped leaving the bus at the scene. 11. LAHORE: Lahore police registered 1,595 cases and sealed 2,072 shops on violation of corona SOPs since June 5. Police also checked over 3,000 markets and bazaars. As many 80,733 shops were checked. Around 61,815 shopkeepers and citizens were warned. LAHORE: Two labourers died when a tractor-trolley loaded with bricks overturned on Multan Road near Shamkay Bhattian on Sunday. Rescuers pulled out the bodies of the labourers from the bricks. The accident took place due to speeding, police said. The bodies were removed to morgue. 13. LAHORE: Ghaziaabad police arrested two kite makers on Sunday. 15. MARDAN: An earthquake of magnitude 4.6 jolted parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa late Saturday night however no damage of property or casualties have been reported so far. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, tremors were felt in Mardan, Shangla and surrounding areas. The Met Office stated the epicentre of the quake to be in Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan with a depth of 150-kilometre. 16. NOWSHERA: The personnel of local police and Excise department in a joint action foiled a bid to smuggle drugs to down country and seized eight kilogram charas during checking on Grand Trunk (GT) Road at Ajab Bagh area in the district on Sunday. The police and Excise department were conducting checking of vehicles on GT Road in Ajab Bagh area. The personnel seized eightkilogram hashish from a woman and her son, who were trying to smuggle the drugs to Punjab. The Azakhel police registered a case against the woman, who is wife of Sabit Khan of Mashogagar village, and her son named Sajid and arrested them. 17. NOWSHERA: Police on Sunday claimed to have solved a blind murder case as a woman turned out to be the killer of her own husband. Sana, wife of Shehzad, told police that some people entered her home at night and shot dead her father-in-law Inayatur Rehman in presence of the family members. DPO Najmul Hassnain formed an investigation team that finally laid hands on Zubaida Perveen, the wife of the deceased. Later, Zubaida confessed to the police that she had killed her husband after he caught him in illicit relations and objectionable condition with her daughter-in-law Sana. A local court later granted a two-day remand of the accused woman to police. 18. BARA: Five people of a family sustained injuries when their room collapsed in Bara tehsil of Khyber tribal district on Sunday, official sources said. The sources said the house owner Ali Majan was asleep with his children when roof of the room collapsed in Gandao area of Sipah tribe. As a result, five people identified as Ali Majan and his two sons including Wahid Khan and Rahid Khan and daughters Zaiba and Babo Lala were injured. 19. LAKKI MARWAT: The police killed an outlaw and arrested another outlaw along with other five accused in Dalwati village, official sources said. They said that after being tipped-off about the two infighting groups in Dalwati village, the police party headed by SHO Zafarullah Khan reached the spot. They said that one of the groups opened fire on the police, which triggered the police to return the fire that continued for some time. They said that one of the outlaws identified Habibur Rehman alias Mohajiri was killed. The police arrested another outlaw named Ibrahim and his five accomplices. The police seized a Kalashnikov, hand grenade, bike and cartridges. Both the outlaws were wanted to the police in murder, attempted murder, dacoities, and kidnapping for ransom. 20. CHARSADDA: Police resolved four blind murder cases in Charsadda district, a senior official said. Speaking to reporters, DPO Shoaib Khan said that in Batgram village, one Faheem shot dead his nephew and sister but later he also died by what the family called suicide. “However, investigations revealed that after Faheem killed his nephew and injured sister, he himself was killed by his brother Saleem. But the family declared Faheem’s death as a suicide to save Saleem,” the official said. Also, one Bashir Gul, the lone brother of five daughters, was found dead and later the police arrested one Tauseef who confessed to have killed Bashir because the latter had allegedly sexually assaulted him. Also, the official said one Madeeha was declared to have committed suicide in Badraga area but the police investigation led to the arrest of her inlaws. 21. SARGODHA: A man was killed while another received injuries over a minor dispute in Sadar police limits on Sunday. According to the police, Waqar Aslam and Khaliq Dad, residents of Chak 29/NB, had an altercation with Safdar Hayat, Muhammad Qasim and Muhammad Asim over a petty issue some days ago. On the day of the incident, Waqar Aslam and Khaliq Dad were sitting at a shop when Safdar Hayat along with his two accomplices Muhammad Qasim and Muhammad Asim came there and exchanged harsh words with them. In the meantime, the accused opened fire at them, killing Waqar Aslam on the spot and injuring Khaliq. On information, a team led by DSP Sadar Akhtar Ali Wains and SHO Zafar Shah reached the spot and arrested the three accused. 22. KARACHI: A man died after he was exposed to poisonous gas while cleaning a manhole on Ghausia Road in Agra Taj Colony. The remarks were made in a case pertaining to the bail application of Pakistan Muslim LeagueNawaz (PML-N) lawmaker Khawaja Saad Rafique and his brother Khawaja Salman Rafique against his arrest by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the Paragon Housing Society corruption reference. 3. ISLAMABAD: Justice Qazi Faez Isa on Monday move a petition in the Supreme Court (SC) seeking a review of its June 19 order requiring the verification of three offshore properties in his wife and children’s name by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). Filed through Advocate Munir A. Malik, the petition argued that the SC’s short order had “material errors of facts and jurisdiction”. It added that many of these were in respect to matters with regard to which neither Justice Isa nor his family were heard. It also contended that the FBR had initiated proceedings against Justice Isa and his family members without waiting for the top court’s detailed order. 4. ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad police have been directed to ensure comprehensive security arrangements in the capital on eve of Eidul Azha and ensure implementation on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to contain the spread of coronavirus. Two motorcyclists who were chasing the car informed the officers that the two women along with their accomplices committed fraud with a man of Pattoki. LAHORE: Yakki Gate police claimed to have arrested two pickpockets here on Monday. 11. FAISALABAD: As many as 10 people were killed in two separate rain-related incidents in Faislabad on Tuesday. Heavy rains lashed the city and its surrounding areas last night, as a result of which the roof of a three-room house in Tandlianwala town collapsed. Among those who died were a woman, her three minor sons, and two daughters and an 18-year-old boy. Two more family members sustained serious injuries. The second incident took place on Abbaspur Road in which the roof of a house collapsed following a thunderstorm, killing three siblings. KARACHI: An accountability court here on Monday deferred the indictment of Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani in an assets beyond means case against him. Durrani along with his co-accused appeared before the court, while three other accused including Shamshad Khatton failed to show up. The accused stated that due to coronavirus outbreak, they were unable to reach the court and sought exemption from appearance. Subsequently, the court adjourned the hearing of the case till August 11. 16. KARACHI: At least six people were killed and 28 injured when a passenger bus rammed into a trailer near Nawabshah’s Qazi Ahmed town on Sunday morning. The accident occurred when the speeding Karachi-bound bus, which was coming from Mansehra, collided head-on with the trailer before turning turtle. Four passengers died on the spot. Initial reports suggest at least 28 people were injured in the incident. The injured were shifted to the town’s civil hospital where reportedly they were kept on the floor due to the non-availability of medical beds and stretchers. Upon reaching the hospital, the driver and another passenger succumbed to injuries, taking the toll to six. At least nine people were said to be in critical condition and transferred to Peoples Medical Hospital in Nawabshah. 17. KARACHI: A suspected robber was killed while two citizens were wounded in Jauhar Complex near Al-Azhar Garden on Monday. The casualties were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. KARACHI: The administrative judge of the anti-terrorism courts on Monday tasked the ATC-XV to dispose of the illegal weapons case against Wali Babar murder accused Kamran, alias Zeeshan Shani, who was on the run for nine years to evade capital punishment. Karachi police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon had disclosed to a news conference last month that Kamran was arrested from the city’s Gulshan-e-Maymar neighbourhood during a joint raid with a federal intelligence agency. Memon claimed the man was the main shooter. 20. KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Monday restrained police from arresting the husband and inlaws of a woman who said her family registered a false kidnapping case after her free-will marriage with a man named Afzal. The order came on a petition filed by Uzma against the registration of a criminal case against her spouse and in-laws by the Steel town police. The petitioner said she married Afzal with consent and she was not abducted or forcibly married. She said her family was furious at her for the marriage and therefore they registered a false kidnapping case against her spouse and in-laws. 21. KARACHI: A major fire that broke out in the Export Processing Zone of Karachi’s Landhi area on Sunday was doused by the firefighters after a hectic 21-hour-long operation on Monday. PESHAWER: The police arrested an absconder involved in the killing of three persons last year and drug-peddler in the City area, police said on Monday. A press release said acting on a tipoff, a police party of the City Police Station headed by ASI Shaqatullah raided a house in Mohallah Gul Waliabad and arrested an outlaw identified as Khalid Khan for allegedly killing three persons on July 2, 2019, near a scrap shop in the Main Bazaar. Meanwhile, a drugpeddler, Abdul Latif, was also arrested in another raid in the same mohallah and 530 gram of heroin seized from him. 24. MARDAN: A woman turned out to be the killer of her own husband in Katland tehsil of Mardan district, the police said on Monday. A press release said that District Police Officer Zahidullah had formed an inquiry team when one Membari reported the missing of her husband Rahimzada on July 3. The police later interrogated the son of the missing man as well. During the probe, it was revealed that Membari had illicit relations with her husband’s cousin Bawar Khan. The son told the police that he along with his mother and Bawar Khan killed Rahimzada and buried him. The police exhumed the body and started raids to arrest the remaining two accused in the murder case. 25. QUETTA: At least one person was killed and seven others injured in an early morning explosion in a bazaar in Turbat city of Balochistan on Tuesday. The injured have been shifted to District Headquarters Hospital in Turbat which is about 700 kilometers from the provincial capital, Quetta. According to officials, an improvised explosive device (IED) was planted in a motorcycle parked outside a shop. However, it was yet to be confirmed who was the target of the blast but all the injured were civilians, police said. 26. ISLAMABAD: The government on Wednesday removed PM’s Adviser on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh as a member of the 10th National Finance Commission (NFC) and issued a new notification on the composition of members. The government made the decision after opposition from provinces and Balochistan High Court’s (BHC) verdict against the composition of the NFC. Shaikh being the finance adviser cannot chair the NFC, since under the constitution only the finance minister can chair the commission. In case of absence of the finance minister, the prime minister being the minister in-charge has to chair NFC’s meetings. 2. ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday declared that the alleged abduction of journalist Matiullah Jan, who was released late on Tuesday night after brief captivity, was meant to “scare others” as it wrapped up a habeas corpus petition filed by the journalist’s brother. Jan, who was due to appear before a Supreme Court (SC) bench on Wednesday in a suo motu case against him for posting a “contemptuous” tweet against the judiciary, was abducted on Tuesday by half a dozen plainclothes and police uniformed men from outside a government school in Islamabad’s G-6 Sector. He was released late night near Fateh Jang, some 48 kilometres from the federal capital. 3. ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday took notice of “objectionable content” against the judiciary being shared on social media platforms, including YouTube, and issued notices to the Foreign Office (FO) and Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) Khalid Jawed Khan in this regard. A three-member bench, comprising Justice Mushir Alam, Justice Qazi Muhammad Amin Ahmed and Justice Aminuddin Khan, took notice during a hearing on a bail petition of a man accused of a sectarian crime. During the hearing, Justice Amin remarked that the public had a right to comment on the judiciary’s performance and judgements but social media “did not even spare their families and shamed the judges”. 4. ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Police have arrested 13 outlaws including four members of a dacoit’s gang and recovered narcotics, wine and weapons from their possession, a police spokesman said. LAHORE: A judicial magistrate on Tuesday sent religious scholar Ashraf Jalali to jail on 14-day judicial remand, an accused in a blasphemy case. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ehtesab Commission, which is now defunct, had registered the cases around five years ago accusing the former minister of carrying out illegal appointments and favouring a contractor for the renewal of chromite mines lease in Charsadda district. The special judge accepted an application of the accused under Section 249-A of Code of Criminal Procedure, which empowers a trial court to acquit an accused at any stage of the proceedings if there is no probability of conviction on basis of the available evidence.

PARACHINAR: At least 17 people, including a child, were injured in an explosion in Parachinar’s Turi Bazaar on Thursday, health authorities and police officials said. Speaking to Dawn, Parachinar DSP Najab Ali said that the cause of the explosion was an improvised explosive device (IED) that had been fitted inside a vegetable cart. "The area is usually occupied by vegetable and fruit sellers," he said. Police and security personnel cordoned off the area. A team from the Bomb Disposal Squad also reached the scene to comb through the area and check for other IEDs. 11. MIRANSHAH: Two persons were killed in separate incidents in North Waziristan district on Wednesday. Eyewitnesses said that unidentified attackers shot dead a man in Hamzoni area in Miranshah, the headquarters of North Waziristan district. They said that the assailants fled the scene after committing the crime. The second incident occurred in Miranshah Bazaar where two assailants, identified as Akhtar and Zarbob, shot dead a man. Taking prompt action, the police chased the attackers and arrested them after hectic efforts for two hours. 12. KARAK: Residents of Karak Sar, Kach Banda, Algaddi Karak and other adjoining localities locked the offices of executive engineer Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) against the disconnection of the localities from the feeder of city-II and ousted the staff out of the offices here on Wednesday. The locals led by former district president of Khattak Ittehad Maulana Mirzaqeem marched to the offices of deputy director of Pesco and ousted the staff from their offices and locked the offices forcibly. KARACHI: Law enforcement personnel on Thursday scaled up security measures and sealed some areas and roads, particularly those surrounding foreign diplomatic missions, in Karachi's Clifton neighbourhood reportedly due to some terror threats, officials and witnesses said. KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced introducing new registration plates having special security features for the motor vehicles. According to Director General Excise Shoaib Siddiqui, the new registration plates have been prepared in collaboration with the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation. He said the new registration plates would be helpful in tracking the vehicles and obtaining data. He said these number plates would be camera readable and would carry a total of five security features. “They will contain tracking chips or otherwise called RIFD microchip. They will also contain a laser serial number and the monogram of the Sindh government.” 15. KARACHI: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of the Sindh police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested five suspected militants of a banned sectarian outfit allegedly involved in target killings. The CTD also claimed to have seized one kalashnikov rifle, four pistols, ammunition and a list of targets. According to CTD officials, the arrests were made during a raid conducted on a tip-off in Golimar. The arrested men, who allegedly belonged to the banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ), were identified as Kazim Ali Shah, alias Shah Ji, Saqib Akhtar, Obaidur Rehman, alias Zubair, Omair, alias Khalil, and Shahab, alias Chhota, alias Safdar, alias Kashif. KARACHI: A man was killed while his two sons and a grandson were wounded in a firing incident in Mianwali Colony on Wednesday. The casualties were taken to the Civil Hospital, where the deceased was identified as 55-year-old Fazal, while the injured as 25-year-old Alam Zaib, son of Fazal, Zafar, 22, son of Fazal, and Bilal, 7, son of Alam Zaib. According to one of the injured men, Alam Zaib, after his neighbour told him that his cousins were fighting with his father, he, along with his brothers, came out of the house. After an exchange of hot words, his cousins opened indiscriminate fire on them. The Madina Colony police said Fazal’s nephews killed him over a property dispute; however, he managed to escape after committing the crime. NAROWAL: A young man died on Sunday two months after he was bitten by a stray dog. Hafiz Muhammad Hamza, 20, a resident of Dinpur village in the vicinity of Shakargarh tehsil in Narowal district, was bitten by an allegedly rabid dog two months ago. He was taken to the Shakargarh THQ Hospital where a doctor checked him and prescribed some medicines. BAHAWALPUR: In yet another incident, a boy in Bahawalpur lost his life while making a video for the highly popular video-sharing social networking platform TikTok on Saturday. According to the details, a youth drowned in Sadiqa Canal while filming a video for TikTok in Mandi Sadiq Ganj in Minchinabad, Bahawalpur. The deceased, identified as Muhammad Sufiyan, went to the canal along with his friends to record video. He fell into the canal as his foot slipped while recording a video. The local police have launched an investigation into the matter and decided to interrogate the friends of the deceased. 13. PESHAWAR: Security has been upgraded after fresh threats of attacks on senior police officials and offices, it was learnt. There were reports that security of senior police officials was enhanced after recent threats by terrorist organizations. The security of offices and senior police officials had already been enhanced years and one has to go through many layers to reach their offices. KARACHI: The Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC) of the police on Sunday claimed to have busted a gang of motorcycle lifters and street criminals. According to a spokesperson for the AVLC, the gang was busted by the AVLC Jamshed Town and its members were involved in motorcycle lifting and street crime. The AVLC police also claimed to have recovered two stolen motorcycles from their possession. The spokesperson said the suspects arrested were habitual criminals who used stolen motorcycles to commit other crimes as well. QUETTA: The Levies Force registered a case against provincial Minister for Food and Population Welfare Sardar Abdul Rehman Khan Khetiran and his “two guards” on Sunday over the murder of a social media activist, Anwar Jan Khetiran. The activist was murdered on July 23 by some armed men in Naharkot, in Balochistan’s Barkhan district, when he was on his way home on a motorbike. Officials of the Levies Force said that Anwar Jan’s brother had nominated Sardar Khetiran and his two guards, Adam Khan and Nadir Khan, in the case. The complaint was filed by Ghulam Sarwar Khetiran, the elder brother of the slain man. According to the complaint, Anwar had been writing since long on social and other problems of his area and about atrocities and alleged corruption of the minister. 21. LAHORE: Anti-Corruption Establishment Punjab (ACE) sealed five petrol pumps over embezzlement in measurement on Tuesday. LAHORE: National Accountability Bureau Tuesday arrested an accused on charges of corruption in Revenue Department, Lahore. The accused, in connivance with Revenue Department officials, managed to change the mutation papers and resultantly misappropriated costly land in Mauza Sadhoki, tehsil Model Town, Lahore. Meanwhile, an accountability court has also granted 14-day physical remand of the accused to the NAB. Meanwhile, an Accountability Court Tuesday extended 14day judicial remand of two accused involved in a corruption scam. The court extended the remand of the accused including Javed Muzaffar Butt and Malik Usman Riaz, owners of Toyota Gujranwala Motors. 10. LAHORE: Kot Lakhpat Investigation police arrested a woman, her daughter and two accomplices for killing her husband. The accused were identified as Sajida Bibi, wife of the victim Arshad, her daughter Saira and two accomplices Moazam and Irfan. Saira intended to contract love marriage, but her father Arshad was against her choice. She handed over the licensed pistol of her father to her lover Moazam who along with an accomplice gunned down him. The accused tried to portray the murder as robbery cum murder. 11. LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Tuesday arrested three accused involved in hundi/hawala. An FIA team conducted three successful raids in Rohillanwali, Muzaffargarh district and arrested Ghulam Muhammad at Lorry Adda, with Rs511,500, 220 UAE dirhams, signed cheques of account of co-accused Khalid Khan (Main operator) along with a mobile phone having details of hawala. The FIA also arrested Abdul Qadeer allegedly involved in hundi/hawala. An amount of Rs 295,000, 300 Saudi Riyals along with order books, receipts, bank slips and a cellphone were seized. The FIA team also raided a travel agency and arrested Muhammad Shahzad for hawala. 12. LAHORE: Police station: DIG Operations Ashfaq Khan paid a surprise visit to Ghalib Market police station here on Tuesday. He inspected front desk, reporting and record room, lockup and other sections of the station. He checked the attendance of the staff and record of the reporting room along with cleanliness of the police station. The DIG Operations was briefed on the performance of the police station. 13. LAHORE: Dolphin Squad on Tuesday arrested a fake government officer here on Tuesday. The suspect has been identified as Wajahat Ahmad. He impersonated an assistant commissioner. A Dolphin Squad team stopped a vehicle on suspicion in Gulberg area. One of the riders during interrogation impersonated an assistant commissioner. The riders afterwards tried to flee after abandoning the car. They were rounded up near Liberty Roundup. A case has been registered against them. 14. LAHORE: Valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees were gutted in four fire incidents in the provincial metropolis here on Tuesday.

LAHORE: The first case was reported in Shalimar Steel Mill on Band Road, the second in a private bank on Bedian Road, third in a house in Iqbal Town and the fourth in a transformer near Tollinton Market. Nearby people tried to extinguish the fire. They called rescue teams. Fire fighters reached the spot on information and extinguished the fires. No loss of life or injury was reported in these incidents. 16. LAHORE: Twelve marla land worth Rs8 million has been reclaimed by Pakistan Railways Lahore from illegal occupants. According to Divisional Superintendent Amir Nisar Chaudary, four houses were built illegally on the land of Pakistan Railways. 17. LAHORE: An open court was held at Central Police Office here on Tuesday. AIG complaints listened to citizens and issued orders on the spot for their resolution. The open court followed Corona SOPs. The applicants came from Lahore, Nankana and Kasur. On the complaint of one Zahida Noor, who came from Nankana, the AIG complaints called SDPO Bara Ghar, Nankana and directed him to resolve her land dispute and submit a report to central police office within 10 days. Taking action on a complaint submitted by a citizen from Lahore, Sultan, AIG complaints called SDPO South Cantonment, and directed him to resolve his issue. Orders were issued on applications of 25 different citizens. The police have resumed open court with observance of strict corona SOPs. 18. LAHORE: Proclaimed offender wanted in a murder case was arrested here on Tuesday. The suspect has been identified as Ibrar Rafique of Ghaziabad. He had shot at and killed a citizen identified as Rasheed and went into hiding. He had been wanted by the police for the last six months. 19. LANDIKOTAL: The police arrested three persons and seized narcotics in a raid on a heroin factory in Shakas area in Jamrud tehsil in Khyber district, a police official said on Tuesday. District Police Officer Muhammad Iqbal told The News that acting on a tip-off the police raided a compound in Shakas and seized 32 kilogram heroin, 30 kilogram chemicals used in making heroin and 15 kilogram liquor. He said three persons identified as Riaz and Mahazullah belonging to Afghanistan and Minar Afridi, a resident of Shakas, were arrested during the raid. The accused were sent to the Jamrud lock-up and investigation started. 20. MANSEHRA: A former provincial minister Ibrar Hussain alias Mohammad Iqbal allegedly opened fire in a jirga, leaving a local officer-bear of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf dead in Ghazikot area here on Tuesday. According to the first information report, the jirga was in progress to settle a land dispute when Ibrar got infuriated and allegedly opened fire, leaving one Zeeshan Arif seriously injured. The locals rushed the injured to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. The body was handed over to his family after autopsy. One Rahman Arif told the police that the jirga was held to settle a land dispute but Ibrar Hussain opened fire, leaving his brother seriously injured. He said that the accused managed to flee from the scene. The police lodged the FIR under section 302/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code and started raids to arrest the accused. 21. KARACHI: A man and his wife were murdered at their residence in the name of ‘honour’ here in Nazimabad area of Karachi on Saturday. According to police, 50-year-old victim Saleem and his wife Hina were killed by two assailants, identified as brothers of the deceased woman. The couple had married of their own will some time ago. SSP Central Aslam Rao said that police have arrested two suspects involved in the murder of the husband and wife. He said that both criminals identified as Asif and Ashraf were the brothers of the deceased woman and they killed

her as she had married a man of her choice against the consent of her family. 22. KARACHI: Senior journalist Faraz Khan and his wife were mugged at a short distance from the FB Industrial police station in the wee hours of Monday. Khan, who is a crime reporter with The News and governing body member of The News Employees’ Union, along with his spouse was returning from a pharmacy on Shahrah-e-Pakistan, he said, when their motorcycle reached the turning towards the Sohrab Goth flyover, two men riding a motorcycle stopped them at gunpoint. The muggers took away Khan’s cell phone, wallet which carried his identity and ATM cards, and his wife’s jewelry. He said they were also demanding the key of his motorbike but then left without it. The police registered a case on Tuesday on the complaint against the two unidentified robbers. 23. UMERKOT: On the order of a local court, 31 bonded labourers, including women and children, were freed from two private jails of landlords Ayub Kalro and Ismael Halepoto here on Saturday. An application was filed in the court a few days back complaining that 25 bonded labourers had been kept in the private jail of Aub Kalro and six others in the private jail of Ismael Helepoto near Umerkot. The court ordered the police to raid the private jails and recover all the bonded labourers. The Bodar Farm police carried out the raids on the jails and freed the labourers. They were presented before the court said that they had the right to live as free citizens and not slaves and ordered police to take action if anyone harasses them again. 24. WEATHER: Hot and humid weather continued to prevail in the city Tuesday while Met Office predicted similar weather conditions for the next 24 hours. Met Officials said that a seasonal low lies over western Balochistan. They said weak monsoon currents are penetrating in north eastern parts of the country. They predicted that mainly hot and humid weather is expected in most parts of the country. However, rain, wind/thundershowers are expected in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeast Punjab and Kashmir.
