CANCER CARE CENTRE STAGE By JOHN RYAN CANCER sufferers across the region will have their illnesses eased by the new Western Cancer Centre according to Parkes MP Mark Coulton. The local member, who did so much to make the centre a reality, played host to regional health minister Dr David Gillespie, giving him a guided tour of the brand-new facility yesterday morning. “This facility is providing crucial care and support to cancer patients across regional NSW, allowing people in the bush to stay closer to loved ones during treatment,” Mr Coulton said. “It’s so heartening to hear how it’s already benefitting people throughout the region, people like Tracey Brown from Wellington who was the very first patient to receive radiation therapy treatment in the new facility. “Living only 30 minutes away from the new Cancer Centre, and requiring treatment for prostate cancer every day for four weeks, Tracey was able to be treated in the morning and be back home for lunch, making the whole experience much more positive. This is exactly why this facility is so important – it means regional people no longer have to travel to metropolitan centres to access the treatment they need and deserve.” Continued on page 3

SUMMER SUN SOMETIME SOON? SUMMER doesn’t quite seem to have arrived in Dubbo just yet, but these young swimmers from Orana Aquatic Swimming Club are having plenty of fun in the water as they prepare for what’s hoped to be a season free of too many Covid-19 disruptions. Club coach Anthony Chapman told Dubbo Photo News swimming is a great sport to get involved in whether as competition or simply for general fitness. “Swimming is the only sport that works basically every muscle group – it’s great for people of all ages and is low impact, so even after just a few days in the pool you will notice the difference in yourself,” he said. “Early mornings are a must for the squad swimmers but we really get to see the best every day.” PHOTOS: DUBBO PHOTO NEWS:EMY LOU
