What a welcome for the Warren Star! By LUCIE PEART, CO-PUBLISHER WELL, after many months of waiting, the Warren shire now has a new print edition newspaper. The Warren Star hit the stands for the fi rst-time last Wednesday, and we got a truly rousing reception (which you can read about elsewhere in this edition.) While the shire has been without a newspaper now for 10 months, and throughout that time we were working away in the background. The publishers of the Warren Star (under PPNS News Media) are myself, Lucie Peart (also of Gilgandra Newspapers – Gilgandra Weekly, Nyngan Weekly) and co-publisher Tim Pankhurst (of the Dubbo Photo News and Orange City Life). We also jointly publish the Narromine Star, which was also launched after the loss of Narromine’s local paper. The former newspaper The Warren Weekly served Warren faithfully for decades, and we are indeed grateful to our predecessors of local news for their passion and commitment. The Warren Star will continue to serve the community of Warren as independent and local publishers. The paper will again be printed at Gilgandra Newspapers and sent over to Warren to be ready for purchase mid-morning Wednesdays. Continued page 4

Cenotaph at Macquarie Park. The ANZAC Day commemoration service included hymns led by Ros Jackson and Emma Cant, prayers from Mary-Anne Brennan and Rev Kenn Iskov and a commemoration address written by Andrew Brewer and read by Trevor Wilson. Andrew who was unable to attend, said in his address, ANZAC Day provides an opportunity to stop and reflect. To put away the business of everyday life and think about how we got here and what it means to be an Aussie, to be free to go about our days with relative freedom. “ANZAC Day should be about remembering those who served. Their legacy is all around us and to understand even in a small way, what those who have served have done for us should be what today is all about.” The wreath laying ceremony followed with dozens of wreaths placed on the Cenotaph in honour and remembrance for those that have served from community groups including the Returned Services, Warren Shire, the CWA, Hospital Auxiliary, Warren Central School, St Mary’s, Warren Pony Club and many more.

By HARRIET GILMORE THE community of Warren came together yesterday for ANZAC Day to pay their respects and honour those who have and those that continue to serve our country. Many from the community including past serviceman came together before 6am and joined Mayor Milton Quigley, Trevor Wilson, Rev Kenn Iskov and a Catafalque Party from the Bushman Rifles 1st/19th Battalion Royal NSW Regiment Bravo Company Dubbo at Dawn Service. Trevor Wilson, who lead the Dawn Service said on this day, above all days, we remember those Australian men and women who died or suffered in the great tragedy of war. “Each year we pay homage not only to those original ANZACs, but to all who died or were disabled in their service to this country. They enrich our nation’s history. Their hope was for the freedom of mankind and we remember with pride their courage, their compassion and their comradeship.” Later in the day, returned service men and women, representatives from many of the services and community groups including the local Police, SES and Fire & Rescue,
