“Ewe Beauties” host fun trivia night for charity By TESS VAN LUBECK ABOUT 90 supporters rolled up to Warren Services Club on Saturday night for a trivia competition raising money for a good cause. This follows Rachel Azar and friend, Toni Nicoletti (the “Ewe Beauties”), announcing that they are taking part in the legendary “S@#%box Rally”, which supports the popular charity, the Cancer Council. Now in its 15th year, the rally has raised more than $50 million for the medical research not-for-profit since its inception. The event involves nominated teams driving wrecked old cars — “clunkers”, “bangers”, “bombs”, “rust-buckets” — which are affectionately called “s&*^boxes” for the purposes of the Rally. These vehicles must be valued at no more than $1500, which are then belted across some of Australia’s most formidable roads to raise awareness and funds for a cause close to many local’s hearts. “In June, I will be travelling with a friend, Toni Nicoletti from Stanthorpe,” Rachel told the Warren Star. “We will be driving in a s!@#box worth $1500, starting from Perth and travelling for eight days, ending up in Darwin,” she added. The great thing about the event, she revealed, is that the charity takes the whole amount of the money raised.

This will be her third year in the rally, for which she has so far raised more than $1400 — including from the trivia night on Saturday — which featured eight tables of teams, raffle tickets, and a 100 Club, which all contributed to the kitty. Warren’s perennial MC, Judy Ridley, was also on the

microphone serving up her usual banter along with a heady mix of trivia questions. Her inimitable introduction to the event ran: “Ladies and gentlemen, tonight we celebrate two incredible women with hearts as big as the open road — Rachel and her fearless side-kick, Toni! “These two adventurers are taking on the ultimate challenge, the S&*%box Rally, where they’ll journey from Perth to Darwin in a car that’s seen better days, all in the
name of a cause close to many hearts,” Judy announced. “With determination, laughter, and a touch of madness, they’re raising vital funds for the Cancer Council, helping to support those affected and drive research forward,” she added. “This rally isn’t just about the destination — it’s about resilience, hope, and community spirit. So let’s cheer them on as they rev up for this incredible journey! “Rachel and Toni, we sa-
lute you!” Judy also penned and recited a very special poem to honour their pilgrimage into the wilds of the Australian outback, reprinted here with permission: Two fierce ladies, bold and bright, Rev their engines, take the f light. From Perth’s coast to Darwin’s heat, A rally run that’s no small feat! In a car that’s seen its share, With rattling parts but love to spare. They take the road, they take the stand, Raising funds to lend a hand. For those who fight, for those we miss, Rachel and Toni roll on for this. With grit and laughs, they’ll cross the land, To make a change — hand-in-hand! So let’s cheer loud, let’s send them high, For the S?>”box Rally — watch them fly! Thanks also went to all the local trivia buffs for attending, and to the generous sponsors of the event, Warren Services Club, Ellerslie Lane, Jo Noonan and family, as well as “Bakes By Rach”.
