Provisional trial date set for 2026 for accused murderer By SOPHIA MCCAUGHAN THE 26-year-old man who stands accused of the alleged fatal stabbing of a teenage boy in Narromine last year has had a provisional trial date set for early 2026. Anthony Facchi appeared by audio visual link (AVL) from a mid-north coast correctional centre for a court appearance last week. His case was set down for arraignment in the NSW Supreme Court in front of Justice Mark Hamil on Friday, March 7, however, it was pushed back to early May after it was revealed Facchi had re-engaged with legal representation following his matter being pushed up to the Supreme Court in December 2024. Dubbo-based public defender, Nicholas Broadbent SC, was appearing on behalf of Facchi. The court heard from Justice Hamil that the arraignment was postponed to allow the defence to hold a proper case management hearing. “There is an offer on the table for this matter and this case did not have a proper case management report,” the court heard. Justice Hamil explained that he was tentatively going to list the matter for trial in early March next year. Continued page 8
Celebrating International Women’s Day By SOPHIA MCCAUGHAN AS women across the world came together on Saturday, March 8, to celebrate International Women’s Day, it was a perfect moment to shine a light on some of the remarkable women of the Narromine Shire: those who are breaking barriers, uplifting their communities, and carving out spaces where women’s voices are not just heard but celebrated.

Grace Walker: Starting a business as a working mother ENTREPRENEUR Grace Walker knows fi rsthand the challenges of starting and running a business. Grace is the owner and Chief Flying Instructor at Flying with Grace and began her business at Narromine in October 2023 after moving to the region 10 years earlier for work as a paramedic. “I think starting up a business is difficult for everybody, regardless of gender,” she says. However, she recognises the unique obstacles women face when starting their own small business or even changing careers. “Women have challenges regarding juggling other commitments like children and family,” she told the Narromine Star. “It is really exciting for
me to be a role model for my daughter — to have the opportunity to see the benefits of running a business as a work-
ing mother.”
