Editor’s Note Hello everyone! I’m Yang, and I’ll be serving as Editor for the 2014-2015 service year! I’m excited for the year to come, and I hope you are too! In this newsletter, I will be recapping information from the month of April and giving sneak peeks of future events! Thank you all for putting your confidence behind me, and I promise to serve you guys well! Your Editor, Yang Fu

President’s Message Hi PHS Key Club, Welcome to the 2014-2015 service year! My name is Lizzie and I am your new club president. For those of you who don't know me, I am currently a junior who cannot wait for this busy school year to end! However, I am looking forward to this new service year, as we have a variety of events planned to close out the year. As a general overview, I hope to organize more local service events throughout the year and gradually increase member participation-we are already beginning to work more closely with the Parsippany Daycare Center. I encourage you all to become more actively involved in service and develop the same passion that I, and many of your officers, have for Key Club. If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas for service or fundraising projects, feel free to contact myself or any of the officers! Otherwise, let's make 2014-2015 an even better service year! Sincerely, Lizzie Tu 2014-2015 Key Club President

DCON

This year, some of our Key Clubbers attended the 68th Annual Key Club District Convention, which took place March 28-30. During this three day convention, Key Clubbers frequented workshops, enjoyed socializing, and had a great time together.

DCON (continued) There were contests at DCON in which some of our Key Clubbers had entered. A big congratulations to Rianna Gran, PHS Key Club’s former historian, who won first place in the Traditional Scrapbook Category! It was no easy task, and Rianna’s win is to be recognized. Also, an equally big congratulations to Viren Lad (current webmaster), Amar Kakirde (former vice president) and Spencer Chen (former webmaster)! They placed third for the Video Category. (That’s third in the state-a very big accomplishment, my ladies and gentlemen). Let’s not forget Aleena Kazmi, who won the Lieutenant Governor Elections! Congratulations on the win! DCON also awarded some of PHS Key Club’s officers in response to their outstanding achievements. The club as a whole got the Early Bird Award! Let’s give everyone a round of applause!

Class Projects On April 5th, the freshmen class, led by the freshmen class project leader, Christina Xu, held a fundraiser at Cups. The proceeds will be donated to Mrs. Krinner, who had lost her two dogs and her home in a fire. Key Clubbers had a great time enjoying their time at Cups for a great cause. A big thanks to everyone who came!

2014-2015 District Project Great news everyone! We will continue to support The Eliminate Project during the 2014-2015 service year! The creation of Kiwanis International and UNICEF, The Elimination Project aims to get rid of Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus (MNT). MNT is a disease that causes repeated convulsions and sensitivity to light and touch in newborns. Not only does MNT kill over 60,000 babies a year, but this disease also takes the lives of women as well. The Eliminate Project eliminates maternal and neonatal tetanus by providing mothers and their babies with immunization, which is estimated to cost $110 million. It is an honor to work with The Eliminate Project again!

Pennies for Patients We will be fundraising for Pennies for Patients, from May 5th to May 9th. Pennies for Patients is hosted by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Leukemia and Lymphoma are types of blood cancers which can be deadly for people of all ages.

Please keep your ears tuned and eyes open for more news on Pennies for Patients in the upcoming weeks!

ICON It’s that time of the year again! The Key Club International Convention is just around the corner! This year, ICON will be held in Anaheim, CA, from July 2nd to July 6th, where Key Clubbers from the US, The Caribbean, and Canada will all gather. Yes, ICON is that big-it’s the biggest Key Club event of the year! For more information, please visit: http://www.keyclub.org/events/convention.aspx (Just a reminder, the first payment is due May 5th!)
