Rays of Sunshine is bacta’s charity partner. Rays of Sunshine’s Children’s Charity was launched in 2003 and their mission is to help children between the ages of three and 18 who are living with serious and life-threatening illnesses in the UK. They do this by the granting of wishes, organising large-scale events, providing children with specialist equipment and fulfilling hospital ward wishes. They are constantly supported by their celebrity ambassadors, including Simon Cowell, JLS, Gordon Ramsey, Leona Lewis and One Direction. The partnership will see over 900 members raising essential funds to grant wishes to children with a serious and lifethreatening illness. The charity granted its first wish in 2004 and has since then granted thousands of wishes. Bacta members are urged to put their full weight behind fundraising for this very worthwhile charity. Rays of Sunshine staff will be circulating the floor with collection tins. Rays of Sunshine will have a presence on the bacta stand and will be delighted to meet with members to discuss individual or regional fundraising opportunities with a view to heightening the profile of both bacta, the industry and raising money for this very worthwhile charity.

Welcome
Welcome to the EAG International and the Visitor Attraction Expo here at ExCel. We have seen a sharp increase in exhibitor numbers for this year’s show which is excellent news for you the visitor and for the industry as a whole. We are particularly pleased that more than half of our new exhibitors are from overseas, hailing from as far away as China and the USA. As they are showcasing a wide range of products from health and safety equipment, to food and
Welcome to EAG International and the Visitor Attraction Expo, the first major gathering of our industry this year. EAG & VAE are growing and we’re happy to report that a number of new exhibitors have joined us. They represent a wide cross-section of companies, UK based and International, large and small, all offering products and services that could have a positive impact on many members’ businesses. The Seminar Programme has also grown and this year will feature some far-reaching topics including Emerging Payment Systems, Growing Your Business with Social Media, Common Compliance Themes in the Arcade Sector and Ask us a question - Any question, where bacta Chief Executive, John White, hosts an open session with bacta’s executive team who will provide a brief update for members and non-members alike on current issues and take questions on any subject raised.
beverages to software systems and amusement products, we have little doubt that EAG and VAE are now appealing to the wider leisure community.
We are also proud of this year’s seminar programme – we have managed to engage some really interesting speakers on a diverse range of subjects to reflect the broader appeal of the show and the visitors we are attracting from play centres, holiday parks, stand-alone visitor attractions and sports facilities as well as the traditional arcade and pub retail sectors. Karen Cooke, Swan Events Organiser
In October last year we received the much-awaited Triennial Review, but it was very disappointing that we got next to nothing from it to help lift our members’ businesses, despite our evidence-based arguments. However, in the review document the language used around the B5 was encouraging and the main focus of our work, getting a B2 stake reduction, was confirmed: we just don’t know to what. Looking to the year ahead, I think it’s going to be another growth year for redemption in FECs and I believe pub operations will continue to struggle. In the AGC sector it has to be said that there’s some great product doing the rounds. Despite being disappointed that we didn’t succeed in getting a new category in the Triennial, we will continue to work as hard as we have always done in order to get more out of the existing technical standards. I look forward to seeing many of you at the Fox Party on Wednesday, 17 January and may I take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy and prosperous 2018. Gabino Stergides bacta President

Electrocoin Stand: 516 Electrocoin will arrive at EAG 2018 with a host of exciting products and new developments of existing successful lines for the Single Site, AGCs and FEC Sectors. Stern Pinball will as ever have a presence at EAG, displaying the new Star Wars Pinball machine. “This game has an enormous appeal,” said Electrocoin’s John Stergides. “We expect it to be one of the most popular pinball machines for some time.” Stern will also present the new Guardians of the Galaxy Pinball machine which will make its debut at EAG. EAG will also be the launch of another exciting product, Konami’s Dance Dance Revolution A (DDRA). It will be presented in a new stylish white cabinet with a bigger 42” screen. Some of the new popular songs will have actual video footage including the likes of Pharrell (Happy), Ariana Grande (Break Free), Selena Gomez (I want you to know) and One Direction. There will also be a backlog of music from previous selected DDR versions available on the new DDRA. Once again, Cat C will feature strongly for Electrocoin with both arcade and single site sectors seeing new products on offer. Monte Carlo will be on display in the brand new Elektra Cabinet. The multi game digital concept includes a variety of games targeted at both single site and arcades, with both Hi tec and Lo tec games proving to be popular across both sectors. The new cabinet, Elektra, has been specially developed to have appeal across all sectors of the market. Making its EAG debut will be the new Bar X 7even, an old time classic with cutting-edge technology. With its original game play, £25 Jackpot and available in a Casino cabinet, its already proving to be a crowd pleaser; “The game has all the characteristics of the original, however as we are all about progression, it will have some new features like being TITO ready,” adds John Stergides.
In addition, Electrocoin will show the latest Bar X Tablet Cat C System for arcades. Redemption and prize pay-out machines will feature with the hugely popular GoGo Chicken making an appearance at EAG with its new bonus settings along with Digital Center’s Panther Revolution Photobooth. With redemption becoming increasingly important for FECs, Electrocoin have established themselves as the ‘one stop shop’ for ticket management, with the Galileo Tickets Eaters and the new Elmac WINMT SQL system for single and multiple sites. The FEC Sector is also increasingly looking at going cashless and Electrocoin provides support in the UK in the shape of the Intercard system, which is proving popular especially with its flexibility. FECs can either go completely cashless with e-tickets or combine it with coin-play and redemption tickets. Both of these systems will be demonstrated at EAG, giving the operator an insight to effective stock control and income management. Electrocoin’s John A. Stergides indicated his eagerness to get to the year off to a flying start, stating, “While Electrocoin attends a number of shows, EAG is the one that sets the tone for the coming season. We believe that we have some great new products for 2018, so make sure to visit Electrocoin on stand 516.”

years of London Shows
Michael Green of the United Distributing Company celebrates an incredible 60 years in the industry this year. We asked him to share some of the highlights of his career and the many London shows he has attended. How did you first become involved in the industry? I actually got involved in 1957 when I bought a jukebox for our family-owned coffee bar located in Kensington High Street. Coffee bars were booming then, and I then started operating in other coffee Bars as well. What are your memories from the first London show that you attended? It was in 1958 at the Horticultural Hall, and I went to buy some jukeboxes. I was amazed at what I saw and the wide range of machines many aimed at both the single site market, and in particular the arcade market. What have been the highlights of your career so far? There have been so many, that is is difficult to answer in detail, but exporting machines from the UK to America in the 1960’s was a highlight. I made many friends there over the years, some of whom are still around. Another highlight was being Show organiser Peter Rusbridge with Michael Green at ATEI ten years ago.
appointed Managing Director of Sales for Sega Europe, which vastly expanded my knowledge of the industry and the many interesting people in it, across the globe. What¹s the secret to such a long career? Enjoying what I do and and always to look for new challenges, also to think young and always be aware of market developments, as well as playing a role in BACTA and the two trade associations before Bacta; The Amusement trades, and the Amusement Caterers Association Who has been your biggest inspiration? There are three people, The great Joe Robbins of Empire Distributing, Bill O’Donnell of Bally, and of course Marty Bromley. How do you feel the industry has changed since you first started? When I started, you could hardly call it an industry. The 1960 Gaming Act really was responsible for our trade becoming an industry, as it legalised the operation of gaming machines in public houses, members clubs, and amusement arcades How important is the January show to you? It gives the opportunity of meeting many customers we haven’t seen over the year, and to be able to show our new range to the customers, many of who only buy once a year at the show. It also is a learning platform as customers tell us about their business, and what they are looking for which helps us in planning for new machines.

Three of the Best on Stand 430 Gauselmann Group subsidiaries Blueprint, Betcom and GeWeTe are looking forward to sharing stand 430 at the EAG Show in January. Blueprint: Reaching New Milestones “EAG is always an extremely important show for the Gauselmann UK companies as we can completely focus on our core domestic markets. With every year and every EAG show that we attend, we reach new milestones and increase our market share. In particular, we are proud of the ongoing acceptance of our digital Category C product, not only in the pub retail sector but also in Bingo and AGCs,” says Simon Barff, Managing Director of Blueprint Operations.
Blueprint will release the eagerly anticipated Community Cash Vaults Category C game pack, which features a number of extremely strong titles including Peter Pan, King Kong Cash, Luck Of The Irish and Deal Or No Deal, which are planned for release through 2018 to complement the already growing popularity of the product. Blueprint also has an exciting new B3 package that is currently on test alongside the recently released Premium menu, housing the Reel Time and Deal Or No Deal titles adding to the already impressive Carbon menu. “We released a new menu for King of Games at the ACOS show in Chelsea in order to make sure that we do not rest on our laurels but keep on driving income for our customers and continue to attract new players, while satisfying existing players,” adds Simon. “We are very excited to now drive forward the Community Category C market with our Cash Vaults game pack, as well as showcasing the incredible Deal or No Deal licence across several game categories including our popular B3 Carbon menu.” Betcom: widening its offer at EAG Betcom will show its diversified product portfolio at this year’s EAG. “We will once again demonstrate our successful strategy of releasing ‘best of breed’ traditional hi tech analogue Category C product, as well as showing our first ever redemption product; Fairytale of Tickets – a four-player slant top sit down,” says Managing Director Simon McCarthy. 2017 saw Gauselmann subsidiary Betcom release a string of hit analogue Category C titles and at the October ACOS show, the company also showed its first multiplayer offer; Luck of the Irish – Over the Rainbow to great acclaim. “Our talented design team has created an additional product in a smaller cabinet for EAG, so we will have an array of fresh options including the single player lo-tech Cat C game; Luck of the Irish Pots of Gold.”

“One main advantage of the GeWeTe range is the ability to have a multifunctional cash handling solution in one secure cabinet, not only do our machines provide a standard cash in cash out service, they can also be redemption system, staff cash float dispenser and deposit system,” says Mark Edmundson, Sales Manager, UK and Ireland. The security of GeWeTe cabinets is one of the best in the market and with the volume of cash increasing in change machines this has to be a major point to consider when purchasing such equipment On show at EAG will be a live Ticket redemption system with back office management system for the AGC sector, a 2D barcode TITO system dedicated for the pub sector, plus a wide range of cash handling system and sports betting solutions. In addition to this GeWeTe now have a patented “Cash Protect System” offering an additional level of security to any cash handling system in any application.
In addition, Betcom utilises the exciting Deal or No Deal licence in the form of a compendium of games which are presented in the Genie cabinet under the banner of ‘It’s Your Choice’. The menu consists of one hi-tech game called Chasing the Money and two lo- tech games called Spinner Takes All and Scratch N Match. Current hi-tech Cat C titles at the show will include Mayan All Mayan and Baking Bad. “We have a wealth of opportunity within Gauselmann UK and quality resources which all divisions are committed to make the very most of,” adds Simon. “We will continue to specialise in analogue while there continues to be a strong demand but customers can also expect to see more new developments in the digital sphere in the upcoming months to reflect the direction of the UK market.” Multifunctional Cash Handling Solutions from GeWeTe With already one of the most extensive range of cash handling machines solutions anywhere in the world, at the end of 2017 GeWeTe extended their range with the introduction of some new and exciting models using a Linux based control system and 7” & 15” touchscreen technology, all in our high security cabinets GeWeTe are also working with partners to provide an electronic purse/membership system for various applications including Bingo and Sports Betting

In It For the Long-term: Jaybox “2018 promises to be a challenging and exciting year for Jaybox and the industry in general,” says Jamie Barnett. “We have invested heavily in new operating systems, IT infrastructure and manufacturing capacity and this will allow us to deliver major upgrades and improvements to what we can offer our clients.” Jamie goes on to say, “At EAG we will be showcasing some of our initial improvements including brand new software comprising an improved user interface and improved music discovery. We will also be able to discuss with customers what improvements and upgrades are in the pipeline and most importantly how these will increase their turnover and profitability.” Graham Bolderson adds, “All of the upgrades and improvements will be capable of being run through any Jaybox, regardless of age, allowing our clients to continue to benefit from the improved user interface without the cost of buying a new box. Unlike many of our competitors, we look on the purchase of a Jaybox as a long-term investment and as such, we do not look to make boxes
redundant and constantly strive to ensure they can be upgraded and supported.” Jamie concludes, “This ability to keep existing boxes running, combined with our superb music offering, fixed music costs and now a great finance deal makes investing in a Jaybox a sound business proposition. We see competitors asking for 18% of the cash box which represents a huge amount of the net profit and we think this is unsustainable in the current economic climate. Jaybox is focused on delivering the best music, the best technical support and most of all maximising the profits of our clients. “Basically we believe profitable clients are happy clients and happy profitable clients are good for business. We look forward to meeting existing and new clients at EAG where we can share with everybody our latest plans and discuss how this can massively help their business in 2018.” Jaybox: Stand 416

Portman Asset Finance: ‘Supporting growth within the industry’ Portman Asset Finance is a leading provider of financial products to both established and startup businesses throughout the UK. They have provided finance to the Gambling, Amusement and Leisure industry for over 10 years and in 2018 they are committed to continue their support. On the involvement of Portman within the sector, Sales Director, Rory Dunn, commented: “Portman Asset Finance has always been a keen supporter of the industry. Much of our early success was attributed to helping countless businesses improve their offerings to customers. It is our aim to play a significant role in helping grow this sector further. Our participation at the EAG Show is just the start of our planned activity within the sector, and our goal is to help as many businesses as possible in an industry that is very close to us.” As a business, Portman recognises the positive impact it can have by providing financial support to suppliers and operators. Various challenges and innovations are ongoing within the sector and it is important that businesses can continue to grow and adopt this new technology, as the size of the opportunity increases. Statistics from the Gambling Commission has shown that the industry has continued to grow. The total number of gaming machines has increased by 1.8%, from April 2016 - 2017 against the previous year, to 182,916. The total Gross Gambling Yield (GGY) of the gambling industry also grew by 1.8% to £13.7bn (this includes sectors such as Arcades which now accounts for £414million of that gross). Along with this growth both suppliers and operators alike will need to continue to innovate and improve their offerings, to attract an ever-demanding customer. Never have customers had so much choice or easy access to alternative leisure activities and only through consistent evolution, can this appetite be satisfied.
These innovations with the industry could see a further shift to the digital world and in particular, electronic payments. The digital economy was worth £97billion to the UK last year - a rise of 30 percent in just five years. The digital transaction has been adopted by a growing number of sectors and continues to be integrated into many more (such as touching your card directly on a machine for payment and collecting your winnings in the same way). There are many different reasons for using business finance, be it Lease Finance, Hire Purchase or a Business Loan. One of the main drivers of using finance over a cash purchase is that it allows equipment to be purchased at an affordable monthly payment without impacting working capital and the day to day cash flow of a business. Business Development Manager at Portman, Jack Doran, added: “With our expertise, attractive borrowing rates and access to over 40 lenders, it has never been a better time for businesses to invest in their growth whilst minimising the impact on working capital. Asset finance is a great solution for any business at the beginning of a project, or even towards the end when budgets can become strained. Our supplier network is paramount to our business and we look forward to working with more suppliers in the future.” If you would like to offer finance to your customers or discuss ways in which we can help you finance your business, then please call Portman Asset Finance today on 01604 761 276. One of our experienced Account Managers will be happy to discuss your requirements. Alternatively, please visit www.portmnassetfiance.co.uk for further information or visit Stand 743.

#Tickets2wishes #Tickets2wishes is bacta’s latest fundraising initiative. It is a very simple formula whereby customers donate their leftover redemption tickets into a kit provided by bacta, then every month you count the tickets and match the amount and pass it on to bacta, who in turn donate it to Rays of Sunshine, bacta’s charity partner since 2012. This is an excellent opportunity for your staff to engage with customers, plus it’s a great way for operators to demonstrate to the wider public just how generous and fun our industry is. The great thing about #Tickets2wishes is that the money raised could grant a wish to a seriously ill child. We urge all operators of redemption machines to participate in this fun and easy fundraising activity, and help brighten the lives of children less fortunate than ourselves. For more information please contact Parveen on parveen@bacta.org.uk

NAYAX: Stand 412 The cashless trend has reached a tipping point in the UK. More than half of all purchases are made by credit cards in the region For microtransactions, such as those for kiddy rides and amusement games, the opportunity to pay via cashless methods increases sales. Nayax’s cashless payment solution offers the ultimate convenience to consumers, by allowing payment via multiple payment options. Nayax is a leading cashless, telemetry, management & BI solutions provider for unattended, automated machine markets, including the amusement & kiddie ride industry, vending, self-serve laundromats, photobooths, car washes and more. Established in 2005, over 200,000 devices are using Nayax solutions worldwide, in more than 55 countries. Nayax’s VPOS card reader offers a complete cashless payment solution via swipe, contact or contactless card payment methods, allowing payment with debit/credit/prepaid cards, mobile apps & QR codes. Nayax’s management & BI suite allows for online machine management, real time status reports and customized SMS /E-mail alerts for different machine events. Nayax’s solutions eliminate sales barriers while encouraging impulse purchases, due to ease of use. Moreover, Nayax is a complete end-to-end solution and the use of telemetry and the management suite improves day-today productivity for operators, as well as providing analytics for long-term business decisions. Implementing the Nayax solution has many benefits for operators of unattended kiddie rides and amusements: I Reducing the amount of cash contained within an
unattended machine cuts down on the possibility of vandalism and eliminates theft, whether by strangers or employees. I Cash accountability feature lets operators know how much cash has been taken, so operators can track and monitor cash collections. I Sending immediate text/SMS alerts for various events to ensure that the machine is operating properly. This ensures that issues like unplugged machines or cashbox levels can be dealt with quickly, instead of losing hours or days of revenue. I Monitoring all machines in real-time, to keep updated on the status of each individual ride or game Nayax’s newest product. VPOS is a card reader that enables payment via credit/debit/prepaid card & mobile payment apps. Nayax’s newest product just announced in the UK in September at AVEX, a leading vending exhibition: VPOS Touch, an all-in-one reader and telemetry device, with a hi-res touch screen that enables enhanced consumer engagement. In addition, VPOS Onyx, a compact, eye-catching device for contactless payments will be introduced at EAG.

Popppy is a vending machine business newly established in the UK. The business is based on a vending machine concept utilizing exclusively the Popppy machines which produce fresh popcorn. The Popppy machines operate in connection with pretreated corn (patented) which allows for several different flavours and abandons the need to add oils to the cooking process. The final result beats all competitive products in terms of taste, calories and processing time. The popcorn vending machines are arguably the only automated production facility of a real fresh food product. Roll out in the UK is starting now.
Established in 2007, Portman Asset Finance has provided finance to both established and start-up businesses all over the UK. We have helped support and grow over 10,000 businesses by arranging over half a billion pounds of finance. Based at Portman’s head office in Northampton, its senior management team have over 50 years’ experience in the industry. The business operates as both an asset finance brokerage and own-book lender. Its own-book portfolio offers additional financing solutions for greater flexibility and superior acceptance levels.
