SlOkam 17 SwAmy DEsikan salutes the six mysteries relating to the SwAmy DEsikan salutes the six mysteries relating to the SwAmy DEsikan salutes the six mysteries relating to the Lord ViLakkoLi PerumAL‘s avathaarams (AvathAra Lord ViLakkoLi PerumAL‘s avathaarams (AvathAra Lord ViLakkoLi PerumAL‘s avathaarams (AvathAra Rahasyams): Rahasyams): Rahasyams): nanaivxE rkpqE rjhTSvÉavE> Aàakt«iEnRj ivhar vzne isÏE>, AaTmIy r][ ivp] ivnaznawER> s<SwapSyn" jNmiÉra* xmRm.! naanAvidhai: akapaTai: ajahat svabhAvai: aprAkrutai: nija vihAra vashEna siddhai: | aatmIya rakShaNa vipakSha vinAshanArthai: samsthApasya anagha janmabhi: aadya dharmam || Meaning: Oh ViLakkoLI EmperumAnE! You incarnate in this world whenever unrighteousness (adharmam) dominates. You take on different forms during those avathArams of yours the forms that you take are real and are not like magician‘s indhra- jaalams (deceptive acts) during such avathArams, You do not cast aside Your svAbhAvika guNams (innate, natural righteous attributes) Your ThirumEni (sacred Body) during these avathArams is not constituted by the five elements (pancha bhUthams) as in the case of human beings. It is constituted only by Suddha Satthvam devoid of any trace of RajO or TamO guNams. your sarIram during Your avathArams is not created by karmas. Your SarIram comes to be because of Your sankalpam (volition) Further, Your sarIram unlike ours is not for enjoying the fruits of karmAs. Your sarIram is intended only to protect your devotees and to punish the enemies of Your devotees. Shrouded in these six mysteries, you incarnate in this karma bhUmi as sacred avathAra Purushan (PurushOtthaman), destroy unrighteousness and establish the most pious Dharmam of the ancient Krutha Yugam, when the cow of harmam is said to stand firmly on its four legs. In Kali Yugam, the cow of Dharmam is said to be tottering with the support of only one leg. Additional Comments: In his magnificent SrI DasAvathAra SthOthram, Swamy DEsikan refers to the svath-sankalpam of the Lord being responsible for taking the form of Mathsyam (Fish) to recover the vEdas stolen by the Asuran. Our Lord took MatsyAvathAram and plunged into the depths of the ocean to find the vEdas, which were hidden by the asuran in his home under the ocean waters. SwAmy DEsikan salutes the Lord here as ―IcChA Meena!‖ He took on the task Himself. Nobody asked Him to undertake this gigantic effort to protect the vEdas. The whole slOkam celebrating the Lord‘s ten avathArams set in the long and majestic metre of SaardhUla VikrIditham takes this form: IcChA Meena vihAra KacChapa MahApOtrin yadrucChA HarE RakShA Vaamana ROsha Raama KaruNA Kaakutstha hElAhalin | krIDA vallava Kalka-vAhana dashA kalkinniti pratyaham jalpanta: puruShA: punanti bhuvanam puNyaouga paNyApaNA: || Lord‘s SvathSankalpam is indicated by the choice of words: ―IcchA Meena‖. This is one of the avathAra Rahasyam. ―RakshA Vaamana‖ refers to another of the six avathAra
8
rahasyam: Incarnation taking place, when adharmam dominates and the dhushtAs have to be punished and the Saadhus have to be protected. This is true of RaamAvathAram as well. Kalki avatharam at the end of Kali Yugam is yet another instance of such an avathAram. In Srimath Rahasya Thraya Saaram, SwAmy DEsikan refers brilliantly to these six rahasyams about the Vibhava avathArams (Charama slOka adhikAram): avatArasya satyatvam ajahatsva-svabhAvatA shuddha sattvamayatvam ca svEcChAmAtra-nidhAnatA | dharmaglAnou samudaya: saadhu camrakshaNArthatA || Sage ParAsara, the author of VishNu PurANAm specially points out about the sankalpam of the Lord alone being the driving force behind the avathArams : ―IcChA gruhIta abhimatOrudEha:‖ He takes the many avathArams based on His volition. SwAmy NammAzhwAr wonderingly states in this context: “;[f[i[f[ Eya[iy<mayf pibnftayf ;AmEyaaf tAlva‖ “inninna yOniyumAi piRanthAi ImayOr thalaivA !‖ In this 17th slOkam of SrI SaraNAgathi DhIpikai, avathAra sathyathvam is referred to by the choice word ―a kapaTai:‖ Maintaining His innate kalyANa GuNams is referred to by the words: ―Ajahat svabhAvai:‖. Having a Suddha Sathva sarIram with out the influence of the pancha BhUthams is referred to by the word: ―AprAkrutai:‖. Additional avathAra rahasyams are referred to by the other words chosen for this slOkam: ―nija vihAra VasEna Siddhai:‖ (originating out of His leelais), AatmIya RakShaNa dharmam (for protecting His devotees), ―Vipaksha vinAshana artai:‖ (for destroying the enemies of His BhakthAs) and ―anaga janamabhi:‖ (blemishless avathArams, which has nothing to do with karma sambhandham). ‚ƒ‚

Gunaseelam By Tamarapu Sampath Kumaran A visit temple is believed to be a curative to the mentally challenged people, who are taken to the temple and kept in the temple premises for 48 days. At the end of the 48 days it is believed that their illness is cured by the grace of the presiding deity, Prasanna Venkatachalapathi.
The temple has set up a mental health rehabilitation center that has been officially recognized by the Tamil Nadu Government.
The center is equipped with individual rooms and toilet facilities. A psychiatrist visits the center once every week. There are volunteers who take care of these mentally challenged people on a daily basis. Sacred water is splashed on these mentally challenged people each day during Uchi Kaalam (noon) and
17
Artha Jaamam (night) for 48 days. Belief is that one will get cured if they sincerely offer their prayers to the Lord and follow this process. It is today a blend of faith and modern treatment. The major festival of the temple, Brahmotsavam, is celebrated in the Tamil month of Puratasi (September - October) for 11 days that includes a nine day chariot festival. The Chitrai Theppotsavam festival is the float festival celebrated during the Tamil month of Chittirai (March - April).
The Pavitrotsavam is a three day festival celebrated during the Tamil month of Aavani. Unlike other Vishnu temples, where thirumanjanam (ablution) is performed one in a week, the temple has thrumajanam performed daily to the central deity. The temple is maintained by a hereditary executive
The Lord appears on his eagle vehicle Garuda on each Tiruvonam star day. Special pujas are performed on Vaikasi Visakam day. It is said that Srudadeva, disciple of Sage Bharadwaja regained his vision. King Bahuviraja was cured of his paralysis in the legs. Prince of Koorjara kingdom not only was cured of his speech disorder but also became a poet and sung in praise of the Lord. People with any physical problem pray here for cure and mental peace.

DHARMA STHOTHRAM
Arumbuliyur Jagannathan Rangarajan
Part 275.
Mahaa-Varaahah, Govindha Recently, Adiyen had the opportunity to worship thirteen Divyadesams which include Thiruvanantha puram and one Abhimana sthalam Guruvayoor . Nammazhwar sang in praise of Sriman Narayana in 12 divyadesams and the only one (Thiruvuthuvakkodu) by Kulasekhara Azhwar. Devotion through utterance of divine namas in all these temples is laudable one. . Swamy Desikan says as " Sarva bhauma sayane Sri Padmnanabha sriye" on Thiruvananthapuram temple. Guruvayoor though not included in 108 divya desams, , His showering of blessings to all is something great. All over the world visits and worships in this temple with lot of prayers . In all Kerala temples, we can identify similar pattern in formation of shrines, observance of rituals like Sriveli, and small lamps in Moolasthanam glorifying the deity. Nambbodris ,said as archakas following all acharams and anushtanams and are ever seen in wet white cloth while doing poojas. Prasadams such as Theertham, Thulasi and flowers and sandal paste are given to devotees with or without plantain leaf. Narayana namas , Suprabhatham, Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam are only heard in the temple premises, and there is no gossip or extra talks. We somehow had the satisfaction of seeing everything in Thirumoozhikkalam Srininvasa temple where utsavams, prabhanda parayanams are held as in South India temples, because of Kulasekara Azhwar's birth took place here. Narayana namam ,Sandal paste in the forehead , dhoti keeping chest open and devotion through utterance of divine namas are all something unique in Kerala only. Now on Dharma Sthothram. In 538th nama Mahaa-Varaahah it is meant as One who had manifested as the Great Boar, which is the third incarnation of Sriman Narayana. In Sri Venkateswara Mahatmiyam it is said as that after the pralaya kalpa preceding the great deluge, the Supreme being Sriman Narayana revealed Himself in the form of a white boar, Sweta varaha, rescued the earth and recreated it and having reestablished the universe He decided to stay on earth for some time to protect the good and destroy the evils. Thus Sriman Narayana Himself came earlier in the previous incarnation as Varaha on the bank of Varaha Pushkarani in Thirumala Hills . This manifestation as white boar is enshrined as Audi Varahaswamy in Thirumalai. This temple is believed to be older than Sri Thiruvenkatamudaiyan Balaji temple in Thirumala and so everybody worship Sri Varahaswamy prior to Sri Venkateswara. Also, Naivedyam or offerings are done daily only to Sri Varaha Murthy first in the temple before offering to Sri Venkatachalapath ,in Thirumala hills, In Daya Sathakam 83 rd pasuram Swamy Desikan says dvadabijushtaya damshtraya indicating the giant form in Varaha Avataram in which He plays in all the oceans and keeping the worlds within the teeth joints. Hence this nama of the great cosmic boar, Mahaa varaahah is His appearance with the eyes like fully blossomed lotus flower. . In 539th nama Govinda, it is just meant as one of the names of Sri Krishna. In Govinda ' Gov 'means cows and ' indam ' means God. Govinda is thus the God of the cows and as the person who are taking care of the cows. Sriman narayana is taking care of man, cows and all beings. As cows are considered sacret and are entitled respect and loyalty, special significance is givenn to cow protection. 'Go' is also meant as the senses, and the land. He gives pleasure to the senses, He's very kind to the cows, He is the proprietor of all land and so He is called as Govinda. Hence, this nama has the meanings of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the pleasure-giving. This nama appears as the 187th nama earlier Anirudha Suranada Govindo Govidambathi ‗ in Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam, .In Bhaja Govindam, composed by Audi Sankarar it is said as one who just worships Govinda, can easily cross this great ocean of birth and death. Govinda is also said as one who is to be known through the declarations of Vedantha {GO} Gobhih means statements and declarations of Upanishads. In Nammazhwar Thiruvaimozhi, 2.7. 4 pasuram, ‗ Govindan Kudakkthan kovalan enru kuvinthu ‗‘ lines indicate the namas are helpful to all, because of the simplicity, but ever with supreme qualities. Andal in Thiruppavai says as He conquers the wicked people through arrows (ambu) . But devotees conquer Him through their devotion (Anbu) and so said in 27th pasuram as Koodarai vellum seer Govinda. In the next pasuram ,namas such as Narayana, Padmanbha ,Madhava are not as equivalent to Goviinda Nama and He is without any ills andso called as Kurai ondrum Illa Govinda. As Sriman Narayana is ever in the same state of the first position one sees, it is said as, in 29th pasuram as Andrukann Govinda. Govinda nama is very Very popular in the whole area of Thirumala hills. Let us frequently tell this Govinda namas, which is very easy to utter.

History
of
the
Temple
Yogananda Sri Narasimha Swamy temple is ancient temple. The temple structure is conventional, being brightly coloured and ornamented with a variety of images. A beautiful image of Narasimha Swami in yoga posture is seen outside the temple premises welcoming the devotees. The Utsava Idols are extraordinarily high and impressive. The temple has beautiful Raja Gopuram with images of gods and goddesses are carved on it. The lower portion of Dwajasthambam is seen inside the mandapam. There is Ardha Mandapam and Garbha Gruham. Here in the Krishna River we see Narashimar Saligramam. Legend
of
the
Temple
Sownakadi Muni explains to Sanakadhiyar and to Rishis about Brahmapurana. In this purana it says that, the demon Somakasura took the Vedas from Lord Brahma. Lord Brahma approached his father Lord Sriman Narayana to help him in accruing the Vedas. Sriman Narayanar in the form of Matsya, killed the demon Somakasura and brought the Vedas back intact. As a gesture Vedas thanked Lord Narayanar in human form and requested Him to stay back on their head. Lord agreed to fulfil their wish.
36
Lord said he would stay here as Pancha Moorthy. He asked Veda Prussia‘s to stay here as Saligrahama Mountain, on the bank of the River Krishnaveni. He said he has granted a boon for River Krishnaveni also. She has requested Him, to allow her to pray and worship Him every day. Lord said wishes of Veda Prussia‘s and River Krishnaveni will be fulfilled simultaneously. After Hiranya Vadam, Sriman Narayanar stayed back on the Vedadri Sikara as Jwala Narashimar and fulfilled Veda Purusha‘s wish.
Brahma requested Jwala Narashimar to stay in Sathya lokam as Saligramha Narashimar. Lord Sriman Narayanar went to Sathya Lokha with Brahma. Even before Lord Brahma offered his worship to Lord in Sathya Lokha, fire took place. So Lord Brahma brought Saligrahma moorthy to the River Krishnaveni and erected the Saligrama Moorthy on Saligrama Mountain Thus the wish of Veda purusha‘s and River Krishnaveni was fulfilled simultaneously.
Rishyasrunga Muni and other Rishi‘s approached Vyasa Bhagawan, and requested him to show the path of Salvation in Kaliyugam. Vyasa Bhagavan said Nama Sankeerthanam is the easiest way to attain Moksha in Kali Yugam. Rishis went in search of some peaceful place to recite. When they crossed this Veda Sikaram they heard echo of Veda mantra. Here they worshipped Yoga Narashimar and started their penance. They were blessed by Sriman Narayanar as Yogananda Narashimar in this place. Rishyasrungar installed Yogananda Narashimar on this Saligrahma Sikaram.
Sub-shrines in the Temple The temple has Raja Gopuram of five tiers to east and west side. The lower portion of Dwajasthambam is seen inside the mandapam. There is Artha mandapam and Garbha graham. As we enter inside, to left there is a sanctum for Chenchu Lakshmi Thayar. Main deity is Yogananda Narashimar erected by Rishyasringa Muni, and on his own peetam as Laksmi Narashimar in the same sanctum. Rajya Lakshmi Thayar is seen in separate sanctum to left side of main sanctum. Lord Varaha, Laksmi devi, Garuda, Hanuman are Sub-shrines here.
West side Gopuram is facing River Krishnaveni. Here in the River we seeNarashimar in the form of Saligrama. We find steps leading to Sikaram. Here we see Jwala Narashimar as deity. About 5 kms away there is Garudathri were Lord Sriman Narayana has incarnated himself as Veera Narashimar. Special

SRIVAISHNAVISM
Srimadh Bhagawatham
Bhishma Stuthi: The Bhishma Stuthi is about the form meditated upon by Bhishmacharyar before breathing his last breath. The Lord was pleased with Bhishmacharyar‘s meditation that He appeared in front of Bhishmacharyar while Bhishmacharyar breathed his last.
After the Mahabharata war Lord Krishna looked preoccupied.
‗Krishna, about whom are you thinking about?‘ asked Yudhishtirar.
‗I am thinking about my devotees.‘
‗Which devotee in particular?‘
‗The devotee who even after being pierced by many arrows in battle and even while lying on a bed of arrows still continues to meditate upon me even when affected by severe pain. Would you like to come with me to see your grandfather Bhishmacharyar?‘
49 The Lord took the Pandavas with Him and made them obtain teachings about the various dharmas from Bhishmacharyar. The Lord with His compassion eased the pain of Bhishmacharyar and made Him feel comfortable. Bhishmacharyar instructed the Vishnu Sahasranama Stothram to the Pandavas. The five Pandavas at the request of Bhishmacharyar left him at the grounds of Kurukshetram and returned to Hastinapuram.
http://www.krishnasmercy.org/dotnetnuke/News/Blog/tabid/57/EntryId/73/Krishna-is-ForEveryone.aspx As the Uttarayana was about to dawn, the Lord decided to visit Bhishmacharyar. The Lord gave darshan to Bhishmacharyar in solitude.
http://www.srimadbhagavatam.org/canto1/chapter9.html Bhishmacharyar sang the Lord‘s praises which came to be called as Bhishma Stuthi. At the end of the stuthi, Bhishmacharyar left his body while looking at the Lord‘s divine form and hence attained Moksham. Anyone who regularly chants this stuthi everyday will attain Moksham as well. The Bhishma Sthuthi is also part of Srimadh Bagawatham.

SRIVAISHNAVISM
Ivargal Tiruvaakku. Means of enlightenment The devotee who holds the Lord wholeheartedly in him, is dearer to Him says Krishna in the Gita. This is the secret of the bond of bhakti that continues to raise jivatmas from bondage to liberation. The scriptural statement ‗Raso vai saha‘ describes the Supreme Brahman as the only worthwhile essence of each and every aspect of the entire creation. It implies that as one begins to feel His omniscience, omnipresence and omnipotence, one is initiated into an inexplicable experience in which is subsumed the essence of all rasas. In this context, the spiritually inclined devotee who strives to know Him finds His avatars as a rich source of the experience of His divinity, mercy and accessibility, pointed out Srimati Jaya Srinivasan in a lecture. As a child, a lover, a stealer of hearts and butter, a masterplanner, a friend of the Pandavas, a great teacher of the highest philosophical truths of the Upanishads, Krishna has not only captivated devotees like Kunti, Bhishma, Uddhava, the Gopis, etc, but has inspired many poets to express their wonder at the unique manifestations of the His Paratva and Saulabhya. To Leela Suka the very essence of the Upanishads has taken the form of Krishna. Only the experience of the infinite compassion of the Lord can move one to this state of spontaneous outburst of feeling. This is the secret of devotion of the azhwars. They reach an ecstatic state when they relive the incidents in His lifetime. Periazhwar imagines himself as Yasodha and savours the simple joys of maternal love while taking care of the Lord. Nammazhwar‘s hymns which are delightful word pictures of the Lord‘s early life — Yasodha threatening Him with a stick for stealing ghee, the child with His lotus eyes full of tears, the vision of the Lord in bondage when Yasodha ties Him to the mortar in a cow shed — are also full of philosophical truths.
