王偉忠 近年來，大家愛過的年，是可以一起倒數、放煙火的西洋新年，以往重頭戲的舊曆年反而式微。 小時候眷村過年可是大事，走在路上老遠就聞到新年才有的特殊氣味，那是種混合了鞭炮 煙硝味、臘肉香、還要加上遠遠傳來黑膠唱片沙沙的唱著「恭喜恭喜發呀發大財」的氣氛， 各家媽媽燒著年菜，到外地發展的大哥大姊們也都在這天趕回村裡，孩子們有紅包可領， 犯錯大人也不打不罵，真像天堂一樣快樂。 後來我離家到台北工作，更喜歡新年，每年都會趕在除夕前一天忙完所有特別節目錄影， 半夜收工後渾身清爽的搭客運回嘉義老家，三重過了、新竹過了、台中過了、一路看著路標，越 來越喜悅，想到家就在眼前，心情之舒暢永生難忘。 但隨著眷村拆除、高鐵完工，台灣南來北往太方便，過年反而少了那種長途跋涉回家的喜悅。大 家也不流行互相拜年發紅包，除夕夜在手機上勾勾點點，簡訊傳來傳去，就算拜好年了，便利是 便利，但對我這種曾經聞過鞭炮味、臘肉香的人來說，實在太不夠味。 有小孩之後，過年期間習慣在初二帶著老婆孩子，跟其他幾個家庭一同旅行，大人有伴， 小孩也有伴。可是總想讓孩子也聞一聞讓人溫暖的過年香氣，所以，我如果把「過年」當做文創 事業來經營，挑一條街作為過年主題樂園，大家穿著棉襖做中式打扮，在裡面玩一整天，也許就 在華山藝文園區進行，某個地方專門放鞭炮，某個地方賣年菜供圍爐，某處擺上滿滿的麻將桌， 大家可以賭，紅包內容則都可以折抵大吃、小吃與年貨，而整個園區的名字就叫做「大過年」！ 越想越有趣，不如來年就這樣辦，大家一起大過年吧！

In recent years, New Year count down and firework d i spl ay s happ en in we s ter n we s ter n c al end er celebration has gained more popularity than Chinese New Year, which used to be the focal point of our traditional events. C h i n e s e N e w Ye a r w a s a b i g d e a l i n m i l i t a r y communities in my childhood. The distinctive New Year air was in circulation everywhere on the streets, a mixture of firecracker smoke, cured bacon smell and the rough sound of vinyl records singing “wish you a big fortune” from far away. During this period, mothers of every household were preparing for feast meals; big brothers and sisters who left home for career development were coming back to homelands; red envelops were distributing to little kids; children weren’t being published for mistakes. Chinese New Year’s time was truly as pleasurable as the life in heaven. After I moved to Taipei for work, Chinese New Year won my favor even more. On the day before New Year’s Eve I always managed to complete all the video recording of New Year TV programs, and full of spirit, took the midnight bus back to my hometown Jia Yi., SanChong, Hsinchu, Taichung passing...I felt more joy with the discoveries of city signs along the highway. I had ease of mind upon thinking that my home was almost before my eyes. Never theless, this kind of fun is gone now with the milit ar y communities demolished and High Speed Rail constructed since it is so convenient to travel north to south in Taiwan. Nowadays people
don’t have to make long, arduous journeys to reach hometowns during holiday season. On the other hand, it is no longer a trend to pay a visit to others and give envelopes. Text messages sent at New Year’s Eve have become the most common greeting exchanges, instead. This way is indeed convenient, b u t n o t t h e w a y a t a l l f o r p e o p l e l i ke me w h o consider firecracker smoke and cured bacon smell, a great delight. I have gotten into the habit of being with my own family going on a trip with our relatives on the second day of Chinese New Year. Both the parent s and kids could enjoy companionship of the members at similar ages. However, I still can’t let go the thought of children experiencing warmhearted Western New Year atmosphere. If I could, I would make Chinese New Year part of cultural and creative businesses. A certain street would be built into theme parks in which everyone would be dressed in Chinese-style cotton padded jackets; at some corner of amusement parks would be firecracker explosion, and at others is New Year dishes selling for family gathering, or mahjong playing for gambling. Envelopes would be given away so that visitors could use the gif t money for food, snack or goods purchase. I may pick Huashan Art Park and name the whole area “Chinese New Year”. The more I do the thinking on this idea, the more intriguing it appears. Why don’t we do it next year? Happy Chinese New Year, everyone!
