Lieutenant Governor Greetings To my wonderful Ninja Pandas, DCON 2014 was an absolute success! I am absolutely beaming with pride for you guys. From winning the first half of the spirit stick to showing truly excellent Key Clubber conduct, I want to congratulate and thank you all. As of Saturday night, I am officially beginning my term as your new Lieutenant Governor for Division 13/15/17 along with the rest of the new official club officers. I am deeply honoured and blessed l that I am able to be able to dedicate myself to serving all of you. This past year has been one of the most humbling and eye-opening journeys that I have ever been in and for that, Division 13/15/17, I thank you. At DCON, we learned the many different types of love. One of these in particular was especially moving for all of us attendees and I have no doubt in my mind that I feel it for each and every one of you. Agapé is a Greek word that means "unconditional love". As high school students with intricately busy and complicated lives, we often become stressed out and frustrated. Sometimes, we feel unloved or lonely or simply just lost. And that's okay. I love you unconditionally and as Key Clubbers, we are all part of something so much more than just a service organization. We are family. So thank-you, my second family, for accepting me to be your new Lieutenant Governor for the 2014-2015 term. It was, is, and always will be a privilege to work all of you. In Service and Compassion,

Patricia Xie

Farewell from Soobeen My "baby" Division 13/15/17, In the beginning of the term, I had a tremendous amount of doubt towards the position of lieutenant governor. Although I felt I was destined to become the lieutenant governor at some point in my high school career as Brenda and Jen encouraged it greatly, I also felt that I forced the action of that fate. My timid nature had me insecure for the success of the division and term. I would always question if I'm doing things right, if I'm coming off as too strong or too distracted, if my feet will grow to fill the legacy's shoes.. Plus my ego made me arrogant as the position was mine and I thought I knew everything there is to know about it. The battle between these two opposing characteristics has been an obstacle in my life for far too long and I allowed that to affect my performance as your lieutenant governor. I was blind and completely oblivious of my mistakes and I felt disappointed from absolutely everything. In the beginning, I was upset that my term wasn't running like how I imagined it should be or how I experienced it through previous years. I wanted everything to work out without flaw, to feel good about myself, and to have that sense of “I deserve a pat on the back. I didn't want to believe my failures were my fault, but I couldn't help but to torment myself because I knew it was true. I greatly regret trying to blame others, for not being more organized, for not communicating better, for not following through with plans for events and fundraisers, for setting such high expectations on everything, and for letting my weaknesses restrict strong leadership. However, with support from you guys, the division, my ego gradually diminished and I found inspirations for positivity. Because of you guys I would get butterflies in my stomach while preparing for DCMs. I couldn't believe the growth in DCM attendance from under 20 Key Clubbers at April 2013 to 80 now. Continued...

Farewell from Soobeen (continued)

Watching Halloween Town while making cards for KCCP, eating pasta and skating together, and sharing the Brenda's surprise birthday cake at Interclub with you guys was so heartwarming. Having my division cheer me on as I retired this past weekend made me feel so blessed and I was completely overwhelmed by the love and support I received throughout this term. There's so many things I want to say in person but I didn't get the chance to so here it is now. I would like to thank you all for giving me so much light and inspiration. Thank you for sticking by me with patience as I thought I wouldn't make it at times. You guys are amazing and hard working individuals so I thank you for your passion for service this term. I'm so proud of the division and I just want to pat all of you on the back. You all have impacted my life in ways I can't describe so I'm forever grateful. You guys mean the world to me and the memories made throughout this year will be treasured forever. I found the inspiration to strive for positive impact so I hope you've found or will find the inspiration to be a positive impact in your lives and in the lives of others. It was truly an honour serving you all as your lieutenant governor for 2013-2014. L-O-V-E, I LOVE MY D-I-V!

One baby dies every 9 minutes from maternal and neonatal tetanus

160 babies die each day from maternal and neo-natal Tetanus.

38 countries remain at high risk for maternal and neo-natal tetanus.

Kiwanis will help 61 million mothers and their future babies.

The Eliminate Project raises money for women in multiple countries that are effected by Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus. MNT is caused when tetanus spores, found in soil everywhere, come into contact with open cuts during childbirth. The effects are excruciating - newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and have extreme sensitivity to light and touch. There is little hope of survival and the baby dies within 7 days of being alive. Together, Kiwanis and UNICEF can stop this disease.

It only takes $1.80 to provide 3 tetanus vaccinations to one mother.

#ENDMNTBY2015

During the 2013-2014 term, the Pacific Northwest District aimed to raise $24,000— or, $2 for each Key Clubber in our district. Not only were we able to surpass this goal, we were able to triple it! In total, we raised $80,778.40. This could not be possible without the help of each and every one of you. Thank– you! <3

Key Clubbers Against Human Trafficking

To my Key Club friends: Let me start by saying thank you! You have established yourselves as leaders amongst your peers by making a conscious effort to volunteer your time and effort toward those things most important to you. Human trafficking is real and it is everywhere. In the United States it is a massive and growing industry with billions of dollars changing hands annually. Girls and boys as young as 11 years old are sold into slavery. The average age of entry into the life of prostitution is 13. The average life expectancy? 7 years! You have taken an important first step in the fight against human trafficking. That is to educate yourself. As with anything in life, knowledge is power. Educating yourself on matters you are passionate about takes constant effort. In order to stay engaged, you will need to learn all that you can about the problem in order to combat it effectively. Never underestimate your own sphere of influence. One person, who is properly motivated by their passion, can make a huge difference. Maybe your gift is fundraising. Maybe it is networking with others through social media. Maybe your parents or your friend's parents are influential community leaders who just need to have the problem properly explained to them. You never know what will happened once a seed has been planted. Det JD Banks Seatac Street Crimes K.C.S.O. (Courtesy of Kiwanian Jessica Anne Smith)
