Upper Body Strengthening Movement Magic! (Arm yoga poses help to move you towards the ability to do push-ups. I love push-ups! First‌ do some sun salutations to warm up your beautiful body and energy. These poses also build core body strength.)
At the beginning I threw in a child’s pose. Use this pose every 2-3 poses or whenever you need to rest and relax your beautiful body. In the process of Movement Magic is the wisdom to relax and rest.
When you do these poses, do them with 'strength' through your arms and core body. Core strength keeps our spinal column strong, erect, and bone dense throughout our adult years. When we do weight bearing movement magic we “stress” the bones and muscles asking them to respond by becoming stronger. Speak to your body. Move it daily and ask it to get stronger, more flexible, and create life sustaining balance! Feel your hands (or your forearms when you are in dolphin pose) grounding down through the earth. Imagine you have roots going into the ground. At the same time, feel your arms and body pushing up like you are reaching for the sky with your body. Keep your spine elongated from tail bone to tip of your head. Keep shoulder blades down and back, not hugged up around your ears. Pull your lower shoulder blades towards the front of your body and pull in your abdominal muscles. These measures protect your lower back and keep your core muscles around your abdomen and rib cage strong. These alignment and postural measures ensures you are holding your body with good muscle and bone strength; not just hanging there letting everything sag. Do not stress about doing it perfectly from the start. Focus inwardly on alignment and it will all come in time. Oh yeah, remember to relax (at the same time you are holding with strength) and Breathe: slowly, gently, relaxed breath. Have FUN! Paula
