WELCOME As we welcome in the New Year, we’ll be welcoming in a few changes as well. First up, our brochure. You might have noticed already, but we’ve increased the number of pages so we can have more room for a larger text and a bit more description for all our films. To balance the budget we’ve had to go for a lighter paper but hope this gives it a fresh, hotoff-the-press kind of feel! We’ve also changed our seating, replacing the front row with 6 cocktail armchairs, complete with footstools, side tables and throws. We think it’s the best front row in the country - well we would, wouldn’t we. What else? Well you’ll not see it just yet, but we have a new website in the pipeline to try and make the payment portal a little slicker. It should be ready for a spring launch so we’re looking for volunteers to help us through the testing phase - so if you fancy being a guinea pig, let us know. Finally, you’ll see we’ve also put our prices up - not a lot - just enough to cover rising costs. Running a cinema is never going to make us rich, but hopefully it will keep us all happy. So here’s to 2016!

MULHOLLAND DRIVE (15)
Set in the 1950s, a world of whispered secrets and furtive glances, one in which the smallest of gestures can be huge. It is a world that could collapse into melodrama if it weren’t perfectly calibrated – but in the hands of Haynes and of actresses Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara, the exquisite restraint of the filmmaking and the acting make for a powerful experience in this exquisite love story.
If you’ve seen it before, chances are you’ve been arguing about it ever since. How is Diane, the failed actor, related to Betty, the fresh-faced wannabe? Was the end really the beginning? What was the significance of the creepy nightclub Silencio, and what was in that mysterious blue box? Who were the laughing elderly couple, and what did the cowboy have to do with anything? Is there a deeper meaning - or is it a mistake to try too hard to decipher anything that David Lynch does?

THE DANISH GIRL
(12A) Dir. Tom Hooper, 2016, 120 mins
Inspired by the true story of Danish painter Einar Wegener and his wife, this tender portrait of a marriage asks: What do you do when someone you love wants to change? It starts with a question, a simple favour asked of a husband by his wife on an afternoon chilled by the Baltic wind while both are painting in their studio. Her portrait model has cancelled, and would he mind slipping into a pair of women’s shoes and stockings for a few moments so she can finish the painting on time? With that, one of the most passionate and unusual love stories of the twentieth century begins.. FRI 5 FEBRUARY, 7:30pm SUN 21 FEBRUARY, 2pm

Finally, when you leave, please do so quietly as some of our neighbours are elderly and others have young children, who may have retired to bed by the time you leave. This will all help keep us in the good books with our neighbours - which is always a good thing. Thanks for your help! Paul & Esther
