PHEW... So here we are, rolling up to our first year anniversary! And what a year it’s been... We learned a lot, laughed a lot and pulled out a fair few bits of hair as we’ve got to grips with the fickle world of independent cinema. But we’re still standing strong and are looking forward to building on our first year’s success. We’ve been very fortunate to have the enthusiasm and ideas of so many of you, and not just for films to screen, but little ideas on how we can improve. For example this month you may notice a few tweaks, including the layout of our brochure. We’ve tried to make it easier to read - larger,

bolder typefaces, with greater contrast. We’re also planning a few updates on the website to make online ticket purchasing even simpler. Let us know what you think. Please browse through what we have coming up over the summer months where in August we step down to three nights a week whilst the town enjoys a well earned shut down, before ramping back up in time for the Wirksworth Festival in September. So, to all our terrific staff, our fabulous team of volunteers and to everyone who has crossed our door - thank you. With your continued support and enthusiasm, we’re ready for year two... UNDER THE SKIN (15) Dir. Jonathan Glazer | 2013 | 108 min

Jonathan Glazer’s audacious adaptation of Michel Faber’s extraordinary novel is the kind of mysterious, spellbinding cinema you only experience once in a generation. Strikingly original in look and execution, it offers an unsettling exploration of loneliness and alienation located in a desolate Glasgow that feels as remote as a distant planet. Scarlett Johansson is unforgettable as an alien entity who falls to earth in Scotland and assumes the form of a sexy seductress. She cruises the streets of Glasgow in a white van, a seemingly innocent damsel in distress luring her unsuspecting victims to their doom. Saturday July 19th, 7:30pm
