My name is Pauline. I’m a passionate graphic designer based in Hong Kong. I do all sort of designs, mainly specialise in - branding, packaging and editorial design. This is my portfolio to promote myself as an unique individual and as a creative designer.

DESIGN FOR LIFE I am a young enthusiastic, motivated graphic design who wish to express my creative side through each memorable works I create. As a designer, I seek inspirations not only from books and magazines, but everywhere I strive.

I look forward to new challenges I will face as a designer and hope to bring originality and passion through each project I will encounter in future.

DESIGN INFLUENCES My first approach to designing was when I was 11 - my dad gave my brother Adobe Illustrator as his present. My brother didn’t show much interest in it, so I took it and started exploring it on my own instead. Back then, there wasn’t exactly anyone who could teach me about the software, so I spent a lot time and effort to teach myself. It was not until when I was 16, before I went to an art school to pursue my dream as being a designer.


DESIGN AMBITIONS

By 2025, I hope I will be able to move out of Hong Kong and work somewhere on the other side of the world. I also hope I will be able to work with some of the top design agencies and graphic designers like Stefan Sagmeister or David Carson. I hope I will get a chance to be involved in designing for major world events like the Olympics or FIFA.

In two years time, I plan to change to my second graphic design job, because I like to challenge myself to try something different. I hope I will be able to earn enough by then to apply for my master degree in graphic design in Rhode Island School of Design or Savannah College of Art.

TAKE A WALK SOMEWHERE Looking through art magazines and books are some of the most essential and basic approaches of getting myself new inspirations. Sometimes, I like to walk around different part of Hong Kong, whether it may be somewhere nearby or really far away, to look for fresh ideas. The bandwith of the world is greater than that of my TV set and the internet.


ABOUT DESIGN 15

TUNE TH E MUSIC UP LOUD Music plays a major role when it comes to getting inspiration. Alternative and indie are my favorite genres in music. It’s the perfect choice of music I’ll turn to after a long stressful day. I always find myself inspired when looking at their album art covers or their music videos, because of the queer choice of visuals, unique colors palette choice and typography used. Other times, I like to listen to club music, because I find myself more motivated when I listen to fast pace beats.

DESIGN SOLUTION

For the logogram, I have used double ‘P’ to represent my name - Pauline Pung. I used a combination of thick strokes and geometric shapes because I was inspired by “hipster” style logo. I chose to design hipster like logo because I think they are modern, dynamic, simple and memorable.

Loma cafe offers a delightful and enjoyable environment for lomography lovers to share and stay connected.

Print Brand Book The Loma logo is created by the combination of the top view of the coffee (representing the cafe) and the diaphragm opening of the camera (representing lomography). The irregular shapes seen in the letter ‘O’ also represents the coffee swirls you see when you stir the coffee.

BEATS is a monthly entertainment magazine providing latest music news, charts, music downloads and artist features for their exciting readers.

Print Brand Book BEATS logo is created based on glitches, which are unexpected, minor malfunction or technical problem that you may sometimes encounter in computers or televisions. Colors used were also based on the randomness of the odd shapes.

My inspiration for my typeface came from food. Because of the Chinese New Year we celebrate every February, I attended countless family gathering dinners. Therefore, I wanted to create a food alphabet to show some of the food I had in these dinner gathering that I have attended. I included a range of food like uncooked vegetables, pineapple tarts, chicken, tea, chilli spice, tomato soup, etc.

Design a series of posters for any watch brand of your choice. Theme and style for the posters should reflect elements of the product.

A series of posters are designed, each reflecting elements of the watches - first poster features the sharp geometric seen in the reflection of the watch, second poster features the tiny stars seen on surface of the watch, third poster features the spots of the circular lights seem on watch surface.
