PAULINE PUNG

01

Hey There! My name is Pauline. I was born in March 30 1995, Singapore. The aim of this zine is to share my own personal story - to explain who I am, my values, my identity, my purpose and my truth. It’s not bout selling myself here, but to tell myself. It’s my way of communicating and showing who I am.

02 Home, home, home

09

Other than the diversities of food we have in Singapore, I don’t actually find myself a big fan of my home country. Not because I am unsatisfied about anything, but because I’m too used to the people and lifestyle in Hong Kong.

PAULINE PUNG

I was born in Singapore, but moved to Hong Kong with my parents since I was 2 months old. I still return home quite often, as some families and relatives who still live there.

hOW IT STARTED When I was 11, my dad gave my btother Illustrator as a present. My brother didn’t show much interest in it, being the usual curious me, I took the software and taught myself by looking at different online tutorial. I also managed to learn other design softwares like Photoshop afterward. Since then, I haven’t stop designing.

design is .... I have always been quite open minded person when it comes to designing. I think as a graphic designer, we need to learn to such up different people’s opinions and suggestions. I believe it is also my job to learn to filter people’s suggestions at the same time. Instead of asking people.”Do you think the work looks great?”, I like to challenge myself to ask,”How do you think I can impreve?” I find that way, I will be able to get cristism out of it.

03

be humble I’ve always considered myself as a humble designer.

I also don’t see the necessary of comparing myself with people around me, because I rather spend that “extra energy” on improving my own work.

Think wild, think big

15

I take forever to think. More than half of the time will be spent thinking of an idea concept, including researching and being inpsired. I am an extreme deadline fighter, I tend to accomplish my project the day before my deadline (including this project). I seldom stick with the first initial ideas I come up, my final ideas usually only pop up last minute or the last thing before I sleep. It’s frustrating, but that accomplishment feeling you get after seeing the final product is one of the best feeling in the world.

GRAPHIC DESIGNER

I think having to recognise pride in your own work is far more important than showing off to others people.

BE INSPIRED 18

take a walk Looking through design blogs like Behance or art magazines like Computer Arts are the essential ways of seeking inspirations. On days when I don’t feel motivated, I like to take short walks around different areas of Hong Kong, whether they are familiar or unfamiliar places, to get a better and new perspective of things. The bandwith of the world is greater than that of my TV set and the internet.

BE INSPIRED 19

Tune it up I listen to a lot of music. Alternative (aka Indie) is my favorite music genre. It’s the perfect music that I will always turn to after a long stressful day. Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys, Of Monsters and Men are some of my all time favorites. I was often inspired by their eye catching music videos and album covers. Their queer choice style and colors excites me.
