o anyone over the age of 40, the growing appeal of socialist policies within the younger generations can be confusing. To us, this nation’s capitalist system has provided the highest standard of living the world has ever seen, while “socialism” repeatedly leads to totalitarian governments like China and the USSR and destroys once prosperous nations like Venezuela.

One must wonder if our younger generations live in the same world as we do.

Do they not see the same things we see?

Let’s start with FRAUD and a process called “homogenization” that was embraced by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), world meteorological organizations, governments and some politically/financially motivated academics in climate science. Remember the ‘Climategate’ scandal in 2009 that made headline news with emails between “climate scientists” saying things like “hide

thers...the references made to the importance of loving and serving others are found throughout scripture. John (15:23) tells us, “My command is this: Love one anOTHER as I have loved you. Greater love no one has than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” We read in Hebrews (13:16), “And do not forget to do good and to share with OTHERS for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” While Peter (I Peter 4:10) states, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve OTHERS, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” But while all of us are created in the image of God (which is to say the image of love) how exactly is love, this most important of all virtues, developed?

Some might say that it simply “happens,” Dr. Alfred Adler, whom many

www.CaprockPatriot.com consider the true father of modern day psychology had this to say: “The mother represents the greatest example of love and fellowship which the child will ever have. Her task is to relate the growing child to herself psychologically, as he was formerly related to her physically. But she must also nourish the child’s growing consciousness with true and normal conceptions of society, of work and of love. In this way, she gradually transforms the child’s love for her and dependence upon her into a benevolent, confident, and responsible attitude towards society and the whole environment. This is the two-fold function of motherhood: to give the child the completest possible experience of human fellowship, and then to widen it into a life-attitude toward OTHERS.” Not all mothers, however, are suited to do these two most important things.

As a result, many people develop an attitude of “personal superiority” as opposed to love for others. During their early years, if someone else does not

step in and assume the mother role with regard to these essential tasks it can lead to divisiveness, destruction, and despair.

Most often, it is another female who makes the great sacrifice of caring for another’s child. Sometimes it is a grandmother, sometimes an aunt or another relative, but almost never is it a male because we men are students when it comes to love... our teachers, with the exception of Jesus, are almost always women and we are life-long learners.

Adler went on to say that as a last resort, sometimes it is a therapist who steps in.

The very best friend I have ever had has been told that she has weeks to live.

She has been my model for m”otherhood” for 25-years and no one will ever know the full impact she has had on this world. At a time in our history when more and more people are willfully embracing a self-first philosophy, her whole entire life reflects just the opposite. She is the mother of five incredible adults, all of whom have

families of their own, all of whom have connections to the helping professions, all of whom know the joy of serving their spouses, children… and others.

All know love. It has been a joy to watch them be surrounded by her love, leave the nest, and then begin teaching love to their own children and the importance of giving that gift to OTHERS. Even now, as she lies in great pain and discomfort, I hear her telling doctor after doctor, nurse after nurse, aide after aide that they are spending way too much time with her and there are others who need them even more than she does. How could people (and even animals) not be drawn to her because all of God’s creatures are drawn to Him and as John (1 John 4:8) tells us so succinctly “God is love.”

Modeling is the best way to teach.

Thank God He had a son and not a daughter because we have been given the embodiment of love to learn what love truly looks like. Yet, it is females SEE M”OTHERS” DAY | PAGE 7

The Takeover of Education by the Left Socialist Democrats

now the truth and the truth will set you free. And you can’t have your own truth. There is right and there is wrong, which is counter-intuitive to the Moral Relativists of today. So, Christians MUST re-engage in the public arena and lose the notion that we should avoid being involved. We must take a positive active role in combating this National Emergency that has existed since the 1960s.

Face it, Americans abandoned their responsibility to see that their children were educated with the truth. They let the Left hijack the public education system.

Yep. And I’m as guilty as any other parent who was, are and will be in the future, too busy to push back against education monsters who had an agenda counter to parents’ moral structure and beliefs. Personally, I didn’t fight back against the growing failure of public education. I opted to simply move my kids to Catholic Faith based schools to receive an education more closely align with my own. By so doing, I was just as guilty as those who kept their kids in Public Schools, they didn’t take a stand against the Politically Correct direction toward secular brainwashing.

How about you? Did you too abdicate your responsibility and ignore the changes in curriculum that was designed to?

• Remove the Ten Commandments from view • Ban prayer or bible study in schools Yes, that’s what we did. We allowed the Left to convince us of the argument that the Constitution demands a “Separation of Church and State”. That is Not true.

Nowhere is there such wording in the Constitution. It doesn’t say “Freedom FROM Religion”, it refers to “Freedom

OF Religion”. Thus, we’re free to worship as we please as guaranteed by the First Amendment of the US Constitution, in that: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…” Therefore, the State cannot adopt a State religion.

But the State has indeed adopted a religion – Atheism; which IS a religion. That’s what the Left has done – the State is their god. Their “truth” is that our Constitutional Republic was NOT founded on the Judeo-Christian Ethic.

That, my friends, is what I call a social revolution. Their plan is to: • Overthrow government • Destruction of religion • Abolish private property • Death of individualism and family • Deification of sensuality • Repudiation of marriage • State control of children •Establishment of a world government.

Does this sound a lot like what the Democrat party is attempting to do to America? Did Obama Admin Try to Steal 2016 Election?

ithout question, America now has a two-tier justice system. The rich and famous get special treatment while Joe and Jane Citizen must abide by the law as written. Hillary commits several felons but gets off scot-free, while Trump gets checked for everything from business deals long before he became president, to any and all actions after being sworn in. Now as of today, Jussie Smollett gets a pass on 16 felony counts in Chicago after a call from Michelle Obama’s aid. All Bill Clinton had to do was admit he had a sexual encounter with an intern, but he lied under oath and was impeached, though Democrats never remove their

leaders for wrongdoing. I guess facing impeachment is better than facing Hillary after an extra-marital tryst.

Shifty Adam Schiff has told us for two years he has evidence Trump colluded with Russia, but he refuses to show it.

Maybe he needs to be removed for two years of lying. At least taken off any committees. He can’t be trusted.

CNN and MSNBC highly suggested they had dirt on Trump for two years and Mueller would reveal just how bad it was…but he didn’t. Now their viewers are leaving for other places to get their news. If viewers drop by 50% things must be really bad. I guess if it turns out an audience is lied to and conned for two years, even the thickest skulls will eventually look elsewhere. So, what about all those hidden stories about the Obama

administration going after Republicans? All this Trump bashing happened under the Obama administration with Comey, Brennan, McCabe, Lois Lerner, Strzok, Page, Loretta Lynch, and others.

Will they get a pass? This is extremely serious! If as it appears, Obama’s appointed people used the IRS, FBI, DOJ and who knows what else, to get dirt on an American citizen, to the point of fabricating lies, that equals an attempted coup by the Democrat party. Watergate is small potatoes compared to an attempt at overthrowing an elected president…with lies! However, if you have the full power of government on your side, to include the FBI top officials, the IRS with power to put people in jail, the DOJ and the Attorney General, the FISA court and the President of the United States…no wonder Hillary was shocked when she lost! No wonder she did not bother to campaign like Trump. No wonder Democrats can’t accept this loss. We the People must be idiots to put Trump in power!

I am not joking! It looks as if my old Democrats tried to RIG AN ELECTION in their favor, then when that failed, they fabricated lies about the new president and his family. Think about the peripheral damage that was done and we have yet to see. Imagine the EU, China or North Korea wondering if Trump will still be in office if they make a deal with him…so they do not make deals.

To me, that is treason! How many innocent Trump supporters have been bankrupted with legal fees and/or lost

their income? Democrats talk about being for the working class, but it appears they are for POWER at any cost…even to the point of destroying our Constitution.

Sorry if that seems harsh, but what else is the equal of such deception on the American people? This is not the usual partyagainst-party truth stretching. Don’t forget, the mass media seems to be in on this Democrat Party attempted theft of power. Abortion on demand, voting for illegals, same-sex marriage after DOMA was law, free medical care even if it costs more than the total GDP, open borders, and on and on it goes. Hillary, Comey, Schiff, McCabe, Brennan…all liars. Not just political “stretching of truth” but out and out LIES! Maybe it is time to demand truth from our news outlets and stop allowing “Sources say” – “We have it on good authority” – “It is possible” – “If this is true” – “High ranking officials say” and other unknown sources, and force news organizations to give their source in certain reports, if no classified info is disclosed…or simply SHUT UP! Race Baiting Dominates the Democratic Party

s a young man, I observed that those who saw racism in everything were usually the most racist. That analysis has proven itself over time. Today the accusation is so frequently made on Democratic Party media outlets, very recently by Beto O’Rourke against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, that it’s now difficult to know who is not a racist. If a Jew, the most persecuted race in modern world history, is racist as O’Rourke says, then who is exempt? But the term is used several times a night on MSNBC, NBC, CBS, and ABC news outlets.

Presumably, everyone is racists except Democrats who decry everyone else as

such.

As a result, white Democratic presidential contenders are apologizing for and fleeing from their whiteness. Joe Bidden (yet unannounced) and Bernie Sanders, are “old white men,” we are told. The party seems intent on purging the stain of whiteness from itself.

Sanders, thus far ignores it while instead apologizing for his great wealth and “tax breaks.” Biden recently apologized to Anita Hill for the “whiteness” of the Senate Judiciary Committee he once chaired.

resounding no. The younger generations are growing up in a nation and a world vastly different from the ones in which Americans over the age of 40 were raised. What they see is therefore filtered through an equally offset lens.

People over the age of 40 saw their parents and grandparents work stable jobs for the entirety of their careers — often with a single parent earning enough to support an entire family. They saw their

www.CaprockPatriot.com parents pay into Social Security, and then those same parents drew on those funds upon retirement. Their parents had college degrees without debt. They could access health care without concern that it would bankrupt them. They trusted the safety and competence of the public education system. They trusted elected officials to be honest and to obey the laws of the offices given to them. If their parents failed economically, there was a familial and religious culture that could combine with government programs to help them.

American children today have largely seen the opposite. American workers are routinely replaced by imported foreign workers and by outsourcing to foreign lands. Immigrants and illegal aliens massively drive down labor costs, requiring both parents to work to sustain an ever-shrinking family. Everyone pays into Social Security, but no one under the age of thirty believes that it will remain in place for him to draw from when needed.

and access to programs to offset the cost of that education. Many of them who receive those benefits are citizens of other nations residing here illegally, but they still receive both the preferential access and offset costs denied to citizens and even veterans.

For the second group, they and their parents have paid into this system through taxes for their entire lives, yet they have seen few, if any, of the benefits to that payment. They are on no government programs. While violent illegal aliens are protected from prosecution, members of this second group receive harsh punishment for even minor nonviolent offenses. Any injury results in massive costs and they are always fighting to keep jobs with shrinking wages and no security.

To members of this second group, the implementation of government policies that promise them at least a minimal return on the payments they are making

The cost of college is unsustainable. No one trusts elected officials. Everyone feels that a single injury or illness will destroy his finances for decades. For many of us, it feels as if the prevailing sentiment of the now multicultural society is to cheer for our economic failure.

The America of today is starkly divided into two groups: a group that already accesses America as a socialist entity and a group that pays for that system but has no access to it.

For the first group, America is already a largely socialist government. Members draw their subsistence from government welfare programs and can receive as much as $1,000 a month for simply not committing crimes. Health care is largely subsidized or simply free, as the recipients either have no money or cannot be traced due to their lack of registration with the government. Food and housing are often subsidized as well, through federal or state programs. They are also given preference in access to education

Why I Honor the American Flag

I

honor the American flag for numerous reasons. However, the three most important reasons to honor the American flag include appreciating the freedom for which stands, the sacrifices of those who died and gave the last full measure of devotion while defending that flag on the battlefield, and finally I honor this flag for the Veterans who have returned back from war, many unable to stand and honor the American Flag due to injuries, to show them my gratitude for the pride and bravery that the American Flag also meant to them.

The American flag is a symbol of freedom. The freedom to speak your mind, go to whichever church or cheer for whatever sports team can all be found SOCIALISM CONTINUED FROM PAGE 6

into that system is a relief. This is how the younger generation of Americans view a “socialist” model, and this is why they see potential in it.

To young Americans, a system that promises minimal access to equality with other classes living in the U.S. is preferable to a capitalist model that robs them of all funds, all options, and all dignity while providing benefits only to other

wrapped in the freedom symbolized by the American Flag. In every part of the world, the Stars and Stripes are one of the most powerful symbols representing freedom and opportunity.

The American flag is a monument to the sacrifices of those who laid down their lives for our country, protecting the United States from all enemies, foreign or domestic. Many of my fellow Americans, more than 1.1 million to be exact, have died protecting the United States of America and her interests from the time of the Revolutionary War to the ongoing War on Terror. These men and women felt that protecting our country, our flag, was worth giving their lives so that other Americans could live peacefully and enjoy the freedoms that each of them were giving up with their life.

How can you not honor and respect that sacrifice?

The American flag is a reminder of gratitude and perspective. I say gratitude because I am thankful. I am thankful for every Veteran that I see in today’s society including my Dad’s cousins, who were both Marines. Many Veterans have returned from war missing limbs, unable to see or hear, unable to stand and salute the American flag for which they gave up so much. It is in that perspective that I feel that I can honor them by standing and honoring the flag that they can no longer physically stand for now.

So, in conclusion, I honor the American flag for freedom, for sacrifice, for gratitude, and perspective. I honor the American flag and so should you.

groups. Access to a terrible health care system is still better than one that will bankrupt you if you touch it. Access to a low-quality but free university system may still be preferable to one that is inaccessible due to race and will cost hundreds of thousands of dollars if you are given the ability to attend. The guarantee of a poorly funded safety net is still better than one that isn’t there at all.

The younger generation of Americans do not fear a totalitarian state, where they pay into a system in which the benefits can be accessed only by those with government influence, because younger Americans are already living in that state. The only difference is that those who are receiving the benefit of their labor are not some elite class of rulers from among their own people, but rather those who have the political and cultural power to redirect that

wealth. This is namely a migrant class that has become the dominant force in American politics as well as other groups that have been able to establish power to give themselves legal preferences in education, contracting, and protections.

To pull the younger generation back from the lure of “socialism,” we must demonstrate both that the rule of law still applies within the U.S. and reassert equality under the law — without delay and without exception. The government must also provide a minimal level of care and benefits for those who pay into the system without allowing threats of violence to pull those resources to citizens of other nations or to be used disproportionately on those who rely solely on those benefits for generations without efforts to rise above those benefits.

In short, the government must cease working for others and once again work for its citizens and stop calling that “socialism.”

Pratt on Property Tax Reform

ayor Dan Pope says we can’t have property tax reform because he needs to spend more to pay for the debt he created.

How would you feel about youths being cheered by local media for going around a hard-hit area to clean graffiti and other damage done by vandals?

What if you learned that those being portrayed as terrifically responsible, and taking the praise with gusto, were the same folk who committed most of the vandalism and tagging to begin with?

That’s a loose analogy to Lubbock Mayor Dan Pope and his guest commentary recently published in a Lubbock newspaper. In it, Pope goes to

great lengths to portray himself and the council as working to pay down debt so we can do the right thing and fund regular items with cash. (All the while misleading by stating full expenses while only mentioning partial revenue; the city has two other major funding sources: sale tax and franchise tax which is the money firms pay to use the public right-of-way.)

“Lubbock is on a planned and deliberate path to both pay down existing general fund debt and reduce future debt issuances, which in the long term produces real savings for our residents.

While this plan is working, the proposed legislation could create future debt problems,” his mayorship wrote setting up his criticism of pending property tax reform measures in the Texas Legislature.

Interestingly in the mishmash of financial numbers Pope put in his argument against more taxpayer control of their own money, is that much of the debt he says citizens must endure big annual property tax increases to pay off, to be responsible and all, was created by him and the council by embarking on huge projects like a new city hall in a downtown high-rise and multiple new regional police stations.

Pope and friends issued the most recent of the massive debt he writes about without a vote of the people through a bond election and I think he makes the case for why HB 2 and SB 2 should pass: Local voters need a direct say in how much of their money is promised to others by folks like Lubbock Mayor Dan Pope.

Climate Change: Who, What, When, Where, How

ho do you believe about C l i m a te C h a n ge? R ajendra Pachauri of India, United Nations chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), 2002 to 2015. Or do you believe S. Fred Singer, U.S. physicist and Emeritus Professor of Environmental Science at the University of Virginia.

What is the alleged cause of Climate Change? Carbon dioxide is the alleged cause of Climate Change. Carbon dioxide gas (CO2), is a necessary and beneficial gas which is only 0.004% of the earth’s atmosphere and absolutely essential for life to exist on earth. Humans and animals exhale carbon dioxide. A 1995

Department of Energy study determined that gasoline emits 272 grams of carbon dioxide per vehicle mile traveled and ethanol emits 301 grams of carbon dioxide per vehicle mile traveled. Gasoline emits less carbon dioxide than ethanol.

The truth is that no fuel is “cleaner” than gasoline made from oil.

When is it alleged that Climate Change will flood coastal cities around the world? In 12 years, according to the IPCC, the Paris Accord, the Green New Deal and the Democratic Party.

Or, never, according to over 31,000 U.S. scientists in the Oregon Petition in 2007.

These socialists called oil “fossil fuel” as a derogatory term because it sounds so extinct, which is their goal—making oil extinct. Democratic President Barack Obama’s political platform was to eliminate oil, so he signed the Paris Accord.

The “Green New Deal” is the old Paris Accord advocated by President Obama.

U.S. physicist S. Fred Singer pointed out that Climate Change models cannot predict tomorrow’s rainfall because models use assumptions, and assumptions are the mother of mistakes.

How was the Scientific Method of analysis used to show that the Climate Change hypothesis, increasing fossil fuel causes increasing carbon dioxide, is wrong? NASA data shows the annual

carbon dioxide from 1850 to 2011 at https://tinyurl.com/43eguk6. There was no increase in carbon dioxide from 1940 to 1950. Thus, there was a World War II anomaly in which increasing fossil fuel during the war did not cause increasing carbon dioxide. The Climate Change hypothesis was proven to be wrong by the Scientific Method.

T

his is the story of the blonde flying in a two-seater airplane with just the pilot. Suddenly, he’s dizzy. Then he faints. She, frantic, calls out a May Day over the radio. “May Day! May Day! Help me! Help me! My pilot fainted.......And I don’t know how to fly. Help me! PLEASE help me!”

She hears a voice over the radio saying: “This is Air Traffic Control and I hear you loud and clear. I will talk you through this and get you back on the ground. the decline”? That’s where the fraud was exposed, but it was quickly brushed under the rug like most inconvenient TRUTHS. Some academic climate scientists were privately attempting to make the world and U.S. temperature record show a more shocking, out of control warming “hockey stick” using a process called “homogenization.” Recall in 2006 when a former Vice President got up on a cherry picker showing runaway global warming and CO2? Yup, most of the so-called facts have since been debunked and the movie discredited with the 2009 ‘Climategate’ revelations.

As a scientist, meteorologist, business owner and devout Christian that relies on ACCURATE past historical weather and climate data, the homogenization process has seriously damaged any climate breakthroughs as in many cases the “real” observed weather data has been deleted by world governmental agencies and replaced with this new manipulated “homogenized”...aka FAKE...historical weather data set.

So, what does “homogenization” really mean and how dramatic were the changes made to past historical weather data from high quality 125 year NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) weather reporting sites?

A picture is worth a thousand words. In Figure 1 we have the real observed temperature data from 1895 to 2018 for the State of Maine in the top chart and the manipulated observed temperature data in the bottom chart. Notice how 1913 goes from the warmest in 123 years (45.650F average annual observed temperature) to dramatically colder (41.00F). Notice how the REAL data doesn’t show any warming trend while the FAKE manipulated data now shows a dramatic warming trend. And if you Google the “hottest year in Maine’s history”...it’s not 2010 as the new fake data suggests...yup... it’s 1913! And guess what else happened with the homogenization process? The temperature correlation for CO2 goes

Yup...100% correlation. The two “problems”, if you will... CO2 and people.

Houston, we have a problem! Data after 1990 wasn’t changed much, but who would even remember what happened 30 to 123 years ago so that data changed

significantly. This process was repeated everywhere on Earth. Australian scientists took a 10C cooling trend from 1940 to 2010 across Australia to a “homogenized” data set showing a +2.50C warming trend.

Some of these scientists were caught and convicted of FRAUD; maybe if more had that threat we’d get back to REAL

SCIENCE. After all the U.S. stations were “homogenized” the U.S. temperature trend went from a not-so-scary +0.30C warming trend over 100 years to a much more dramatic +1.50C. So, the next time you hear it’s the hottest year SEE CLIMATE CHANGE | PAGE 11

on record, year-after-year, you have the right to be VERY SKEPTICAL. By dumb luck there are a few unfortunate and coincidental COLD dates at play here: • 1700 (the coldest period in thousands of years – Peak Little Ice Age) so of course we’ve had significant global warming since.

• 1895 cold was similar to the cold conditions at the start of the Little Ice Age in the 1400s and 1895 began the era of accurate land-based temperature measurements, so again, a warming trend since.

• 1979 the start of more accurate satellite-based global temperatures...yup, that was the coldest decade of the past 100 years, so again, warming since the start of that data set.

Point 2 SCIENCE FICTION...the United Nations IPCC reports, thousands of pages of changing science fiction. In the 1990 report, the global temperature from 1000 AD to 1990 AD acknowledged the Medieval Warm Period (950-1250 AD) was warmer than today. Houston...we have a problem! Out comes the 2001 report, 11 years later, magically vaporizing the Medieval Warm Period to below average with steady cold temperatures for a thousand years then unprecedented runaway global warming in the last 50 years... aka ‘The Hockey Stick’ chart.

Few seem to care that EVERY SINGLE IPCC/UN MODEL WAS WRONG (See Figure 2). And all the models had to predict was ONE NUMBER, the annual global temperature. EPIC FAIL. Let’s get back to REAL SCIENCE and figure out what went wrong, test some more, hypothesize more, debate a lot more and exchange competing ideas until there is a true understanding of what really drives our climate. We have NO IDEA how sensitive our climate is to CO2 let alone how much humans play a role compared to natural cycles. It might help if we consider consulting with our geological counterparts or historians as they’ll tell us that 75% to 95% of Earth’s history has been

And finally, the FACTS: The thermometer was invented in 1714...pretty sure there was no reason to adjust (“homogenize”) recent weather data.

Record hottest temperatures – most in the 1930s, which was the hottest decade of the past 123 years; 40% fewer hot days today. Source EPA. Sea Level Rise in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, Hawaii, has seen a 5.8” rise over 100 years and none in the past 25. In the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, Bermuda has about an 8” rise over the past 100 years and none in the past 59. Source NOAA. FUN FACT: In the Post-Glacial Ice Age period 24,000 to 6,000 years ago, global sea level rose 390 FEET as most of that ice melted. In the past 6,000 years little, if any, sea level rise.

Global Hurricanes: Global Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE) Index down -23% from its peak in 1993 and Major hurricanes down -12%. Peak U.S. Landfalling hurricanes occurred 80 and 130 years ago in the 1940s and 1880s with the 2010s at 168-year lows (NOAA).

FUN FACT: According to NASA, one hurricane has more power than 10,000 nuclear bombs. But we humans think we can change the ENTIRE WORLD’S climate?

Old Salt: True Hero’s; Memories of William Everett “Bud” McArthur, Part II

I

n the April issue, I presented Part I of the life of my cousin from his youthful rugged farm life up to his initial boarding with the commissioning crew of the U.S.S. O’Brien.

This continuation reviews the touching yet amazing life of my cousin William Everett “Bud” McArthur and his tragic end from a WWII Kamikaze attack. If you missed the April issue, please request a copy from the Caprock Patriot.

When we left our hero and his ship, U.S.S. O’Brien (DD-725), had completed a rigorous shakedown cruise and training for this “state-of-the-art” war machine.

We continue as the O’Brien embarks on her first war patrol.

The O’Brien joined convoy forces, May 14, 1944, en-route to Scotland

and England. The O’Brien’s, and other destroyer’s duty, was to protect a large number of ammunition laden transport ships. The mission was successful.

Following patrol and escort duty near England, she participated in the invasion of Normandy and in-shore Bombardment of Cherbourg. On 25 June, while supporting minesweepers well inshore of the battleship U.S.S. Texas (which was engaging German shore batteries, near Cherbourg), O’Brien’s own gunfire was so accurate that enemy gunnery positions shifted from Texas to O’Brien.

O’Brien received a direct hit just aft of the bridge but was able to stay on station long enough to lay a smoke screen for Texas.

Thirteen men were killed and nineteen wounded. After these operations, U.S.S. O’Brien transited to the English Channel

During the above harrowing operations, Bud must have been amused to find himself onboard with actor Robert Montgomery. Montgomery was aboard as a Flag Liaison Officer. Upon embarking on May 14, 1944, the ship was under the command of Captain Willian Outerbridge, already famous for sinking a Japanese sub off Pearl Harbor. Please note, I refer to Commander W.W. Outerbridge as “Captain Outerbridge”; in the Navy, the person who is in command of the ship is called Captain no matter his rank. However, as a country, we should work equally hard to honor and show appreciation to those rare members of our community who devote much of their time to supporting Veterans and Veteran causes. As a Veteran myself, I’ve personally benefited from Linda’s support and mentorship since I launched this paper. Additionally, I work with Linda on Lubbock’s Monument of Courage committee to honor our 11 regional Medal of Honor heroes, as well as in other efforts with Linda to honor and support our Veterans. community can be defined by the character of its citizens.

who served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. After her husband’s service, they moved to Lubbock, Texas. He earned a master’s degree in from UT and was offered a dream job with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, but his love of aviation was his chosen profession. After his death, Linda and her son moved to San Antonio in order to serve a bigger community with real estate needs.

During her stay in San Antonio, she was successful in selling hundreds of houses to Veterans and their families. One of her most challenging and rewarding real estate deals was the selling of 60,000 acres which spanned over 3 counties. Because of her hard work and career decision, she helped her son get through undergraduate and on to medical school. After her son’s graduation, Linda moved back to the place she now calls home; Lubbock, Texas.

Friendly and loyal. When not representing buyers during real estate transactions, Linda helps others achieve their dreams. Linda helped to establish Teysha Cellars, now known as Caprock Winery.

This endeavor required several visits to Napa Valley, California, visiting wineries, selecting the perfect Vats and learning how to market wine. Satisfied with its success, she wanted to do more and focused her attention on community service.

Memorial Day

I

n the spring, when flowers are in bloom throughout the United States, Americans decorate the graves of military men and women who died fighting for their country.

No one is exactly sure when “Decoration Day” first started, but the first official observance at Arlington Cemetery took place three years after the Civil War was over. On the 5th of May, in 1868, Maj. Gen. John A. Logan declared that May 30th would be a day to honor the dead.

Urging citizens to use “the choicest flowers of springtime,” Logan reminded everyone to not let the graves of servicemen slip into disrepair: We should guard their graves with sacred vigilance. ... Let pleasant paths invite the coming and going of reverent

visitors and fond mourners. Let no neglect, no ravages of time, testify to the present or to the coming generations that we have forgotten as a people the cost of a free and undivided republic.

In 1971, Congress declared that “Memorial Day” would be a national holiday which occurred on the fourth Monday of May (not on May 30th). Among other reasons, legislators wanted to give Americans a long weekend at the beginning of summer.

Veterans opposed that idea, declaring that if Memorial Day were part of a long weekend, it would turn-into a summer holiday where people focused on having fun instead of remembering, and honoring, those who had died.

As Americans, we have begun to overuse the word ‘hero ‘. I stand by my claim that the real heroes are the men and women who don’t come home.

big guns of the battleships pounded the German gun emplacements. Captain Outerbridge, and other observers, were horrified as one wave after another of our troops were being cut down. He ordered the O’Brien within a few hundred yards and parallel to the landing beach. The accuracy of O’Brien’s 5-inch guns quickly silenced the German positions allowing our troops to swarm the Germans and gain a secure beachhead. Certainly, my account of the action seen by the crew of O’Brien is extremely abbreviated. For example, when transiting the English Channel after Normandy and Cherbourg the ship was under bomb attack from the German Luftwaffe as well as German Sub threats.

Following Normandy and subsequent to the damage near Cherbourg, O’Brien received temporary repairs on the Isle of Portland, England, before escorting a convoy to the Boston Naval Shipyard where she underwent extensive repair and modification. Seaman “Bud” McArthur had seen more peril in his short 20-year life than most of us will ever see.

A DATE WITH DESTINY After repairs in Boston, the ship was on intense training exercises in the Boston and Norfolk areas and then escorted the aircraft carrier Ticonderoga to the Pacific via the Panama Canal and San Diego for carrier operations with the 3rd Fleet east of the Philippines. In early December 1944, she joined the 7th Fleet assault

forces at Ormoc Bay, Philippines. While under continuous air attack, O’Brien crewmen attempted to extinguish oil fires caused by Japanese kamikazes on the destroyer Ward, until ordered to sink the stricken ship by gunfire. Ironically O’Brien’s commanding officer, Commander W.W. Outerbridge, had been in command of the U.S.S. Ward when she sank a Japanese submarine off Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Next, in December 15, 1944, O’Brien fought kamikaze caused fires on the USS LST-472 and rescued 198 survivors.

Following a brief patrol period in the Mindoro Strait, she proceeded to Lingayen Gulf for the invasion of Luzon. On 6 January 1945, a Japanese aircraft crashed into the port side of her fantail causing slight damage. After several days of escort duty and shore bombardment during the landing of Army assault troops, she proceeded to Manus Island, for repairs.

She joined fleet carrier forces February 10, 1945 for air strikes against Tokyo, Iwo Jima, and the Bonin Islands.

Aircraft attacked O’Brien off the island Kerama Retto on March 27, 1945, while U.S. forces secured an advance logistics base for the attack on the Japanese home islands. One plane crashed into the water as a result of gunfire while another, an Aichi D3A “Val” carrying a 500-pound bomb, crashed into the port side amidships exploding a magazine. Fifty were killed or missing and seventy-six wounded. My cousin, William Everett “Bud” McArthur was one among the dead or injured.

THINGS HAPPEN FAST IN WAR Below I have listed one page, verbatim, of the U.S.S. O’Brien ship’s log from a 33-page detailed war action report by Captain Outerbridge. The full report goes into great detail of the action, damages, casualties, and aftermath. As you read this try to imagine one of those WWII documentary films of our Navy battling the Japanese suicide aircraft (Kamikaze).

Note the time span, a frantic pace.

March 27, 1945 0403 No unidentified aircraft in area.

Secured from General Quarters.

0545 USS O’Brien detached by CTG 51.1 and ordered to report to CTF 52 for operations with Fire Support Group #3 in support of Area #5 as set out in CTF 52 Operation Plan 2-45.

0618 Enemy planes reported in area, went to General Quarters.

0623 From a group of eleven planes, almost overhead, were identified as friendly.

One enemy plane was sighted diving on this ship. All 20mm and 40mm which could bear opened fire. Plane was hit directly by many 20mm and 40mm at a distance of about 300 yards, burst into flames, and crashed about 75 yards on the starboard beam.

0624 Another enemy plane was sighted well in a dive on this ship. Ship was maneuvered radically in an attempt to bring the forward battery to bear, and all available guns opened fire. Although hit many times by 20mm and 40mm shells, the plane continued to dive and crashed into the ship forward of amidships on the port side, passing through the superstructure

deck to the starboard side. Ammunition exploded 6 rounds of 5”/38, 200 rounds of 40mm, 150 rounds of 20mm. The plane is believed to carry a 500 Pound bomb which exploded on the starboard side just aft of the bridge structure. ( for a full report of damage see the enclosure “B”). (For a full report of casualties see enclosure “C”). fires were started throughout the damage area. Changed speed to 10 knots and came around into the wind to aid firefighting.

All available repair parties and nonessential gun personnel were engaged in firefighting and rescue and care of wounded personnel.

Entries in a subsequent few pages detail the two ships that came to aid at 0633, All fires under control by 0650. By 0843, O’Brien came alongside the U.S.S. Drew, a troop transport, where many injured were received.

The report further details of the total 126 casualties, 26 died in the action and were buried at sea, 22 were missing having jumped or were blown overboard, 44 were wounded and were either treated on the Drew or on the O’Brien. Captain Outerbridge was one of the injured but continued his duties. 34 were taken on the U.S.S. Drew for treatment and later transfer to the hospital ship Solace. Two of these died aboard the U.S.S. Drew on March 28, 1945. One of these was my cousin William Everett “Bud” McArthur. Those two men were buried at sea the same day.

WILLIAM EVERETT “BUD” MCARTHUR, FINAL THOUGHTS. I remember when my parents informed me of the loss of Bud and we all headed to the old home place for the service.

I felt as if I had been hit by a 220-volt shock. When we arrived at the old farm the entire community was somber. Uncle Perry and Aunt Nellie had not received the bad news until mid-April. This was a devastating ending for these loving parents. I can only imagine the grief. I do not believe they ever fully recovered; just like thousands of other parents that had to endure such tragedy.

William Everett did not have the chance to meet the newest member of his family, Johnny McArthur. Johnny was, I think, born in 1944 so was an infant at the tragic event. No one, including my parents, ever wanted to discuss the tragedy. Being

Since 2014, she has led and assisted over 30 events that have addressed local Veterans concerns within the Lubbock area. In addition, she donates to various charitable organizations that tackle homelessness, poverty, education, and character development.

just 7 or 8 years old at Bud’s death, I was not told of the burial at sea. I just assumed Bud was buried in the old family cemetery. Recently I called my Cousin, Johnny, and I asked if he was aware Bud not was buried in the family cemetery. He confirmed he knew that, but it was never talked about. All we have at the family cemetery is a headstone with Bud’s picture on the stone.

Incidentally, the other two brothers of Bud, Sam and June (deceased), were wonderful cousins and served bravely in Korea. I loved them dearly.

I dedicate this article to the remaining family and offspring of Perry and Nellie McArthur and all families who endured loss from WWII, whether death, injury, or trauma. Also, many thanks to Lubbock’s Leonard Brown whose Caprock Patriot article on his brother inspired me.

Sleep well dear cousin William Everett “Bud” McArthur. You did your duty to God and Country. As long as I live you will live in my memory.

The Great Ammo Debate

eople who are new to handguns and defensive shooting may be somewhat surprised at the fervor that is exhibited during debates about the various defensive handgun calibers. The 9mm vs. .45ACP debate has been going on for years. And I am sure that this makes the .40 S&W and 10mm advocates feel discriminated against and inclined to add to the furor of debate. It occurs to me that all of these caliber wars may be more than a little bit confusing to new folks. So, making a concerted effort to keep from taking sides, let me see if I can explain what all the argument is about.

We use our defensive handgun only when our lives are in immediate danger.

Our goal is to stop the criminal’s attack

immediately before he can do any damage. This use of our defensive handgun may cause the death of our attacker, but his death is not our goal. What we want is for him to stop his attack immediately.

Significant tissue damage is the only thing that can be relied upon to cause the incapacitation of the bad guy.

The 9mm cartridge is a stalwart for the Small & Fast fraternity. It pushes a 124-gr. bullet (.358 inches in diameter) in the neighborhood of 1150 feet per second (fps). This relatively high velocity can be expected to give a modern hollowpoint bullet some 15 to 17 inches of penetration into the bad guy. At the same time, these modern bullets will expand. It is this combination of penetration and expansion that is relied upon for incapacitation.

Most 9mm advocates will admit that 9mm ammo using a full-metal-jacketed bullet is not a good fight stopper because,

while it has velocity, it doesn’t have the ability to expand. They point, and rightly so, to the huge improvements in the design of defensive handgun bullets within the past few years. We simply know a

ocal business is very important and goes beyond supporting businesses on Small Business Saturday. Several things that help the local community as you shop locally such as involvement in the community, personal touch, and better customer service. Sharp Shooters has been a staple in this community since 1992.

When you shop local, the business owner is typically connected to every employee in the store. This leads to a more personal approach that often means any problem you have is taken seriously. Having the owner nearby also means that the owner personally knows his customers. He knows the products you buy on a regular basis and can change things to make your experience even

better. Buying local has benefits beyond mere convenience. When you support local business owners, you get better customer service.

Local businesses are job creators, and most of those jobs are local jobs. Supporting local businesses also helps folks that live within the community who work at them. When a community has a vibrant commercial center, it also creates opportunities for these employees to shop at other local small businesses.

Their employees will dine out or take their customers to local restaurants and grab drinks from local bars. This keeps money local and further creates a tightknit community.

Let’s not forget that when residents shop at small businesses within their communities, their tax dollars stay within the local economy, helping to improve their community as a result. Likewise, local small

the .45 ACP has pushed a 230-gr. (.452 inches in diameter) bullet at some 850fps.

While the .45 bullet is not traveling as fast as the 9mm, it relies on increased bullet weight to give the needed penetration.

The .45 ACP cartridge began life with a full-metal jacket bullet, must like the 9mm. However, the .45 FMJ bullet has a little better reputation as a fight stopper, undoubtedly because of its weight advantage. And, as with all defensive handgun calibers, the .45 ACP has benefited from the improved design of modern defensive bullets.

So one may wonder why there is this on-going debate when both the 9mm and the .45ACP penetrate sufficiently and, especially with modern ammo, expand sufficiently. They both should be able to cause significant tissue damage and result in rapid incapacitation of the attacker.

Well, to confuse things even further, they are both capable of a failing at this task, too, and have on documented

occasions. Think of all of the things that the defensive bullet might have to go through in order to impact the criminal.

Glass, sheetrock, heavy clothing...these may not only slow down the bullet, reducing penetration, but they might clog up the hollowpoint and cause it to fail to expand.

One might come to the realization that caliber is not as important as finding a defensive handgun that is easy to operate and easy to shoot well. Once that is determined, one’s time might be better spent researching the best defensive ammunition that is available and acquiring the same. After that, the smart thing is to get professional defensive training to learn proper tactics and proper bullet placement.

You will notice that I haven’t taken sides in the Small & Fast vs. Big & Slow debate.

I suppose some people are welcome to continue this debate ad nauseum. As for me, I think I’ll go spend the afternoon at the shooting range, trying to get as good

as I can with my chosen defense gun.

But, there are too many young Americans being deceived by public school educators about the great ideas that make America great and special. Question what your children and grandchildren are being taught in their classrooms. Challenge biased history!

“Let’s roll” no matter what the cost!

Let us stand up, instead of shutting up when bullies mock us for lovingly opposing God-offending ideas, i.e. gender dysphoria, approval of killing babies in and out of the womb, no borders for our nation, the harassment of Christians but the protection of all other religious

notions, i.e. sharia law. Evolution is not science. The laws of nature clearly reveal a Creator, God. As pilots of our homes, businesses, and students in our classrooms, let us lead boldly and courageously. Honesty and integrity in the workplace speak loudly.

Let us encourage dialogue about important matters. Talking about sports and the weather or the latest Hollywood scandal does not really address the “Mayday” conditions of the country we love. As “blue state” neighbors move from California and New York to Texas and North Carolina, let’s question their political ‘confusion’. “RINO” Republicans ought not be elected to represent our traditional values. In our churches, hold Pastors accountable. Remind them that God calls us to “stand under the Bible, not over the Bible”. Encourage your children and grandchildren to respect and discern the truths of this American moment in history. Freedom is not free. Every generation must sacrifice to defend what so many others before them have bled and died for.

Mayday! Mayday! Help me, help us, dear God, to seek you first and all other things second. Only then can we truly enjoy the daily blessings You alone provide!

Humbled or Humiliated

I

played right cornerback on our high school football team. Every position has its own set of challenges but playing cornerback can sometimes be downright embarrassing. The reason is when the football is snapped offensive and defensive linemen smash together pushing, groaning, grunting and straining with all their might to gain the advantage. Every player will be graded for their performance when the game film is shown to the team, however, it’s sometimes hard to see from the stands if a lineman missed a block or tackle. The fans just see is a large pile of bodies oozing blood, sweat, tears and a stench that could stop a moose in its tracks. However, when a defensive back makes a mistake everyone sees him frantically running trying to catch a receiver or back that has gotten behind him because of a blown coverage or missed tackle.

A chill came over me and our other defensive backs as we watched the game film of our upcoming opponent. Why? Because their halfback, Billy Thomas, just a few months earlier, had run the fastest 100 yard dash time in the state of Texas and the 3rd fastest time in the

nation. Billy went on to Texas A&M on a track scholarship and eventually won a gold medal in the Olympics. His team only had two basic plays: Billy Thomas right and Billy Thomas left. We watched in horror as this world-class sprinter turned the corner time and time again leaving helpless defensive backs in his wake. It reminded me of the Bob Dylan song, “Try and Catch the Wind.”

After we kicked off, I sheepishly walked onto the field knowing I would be trying to stop the fastest sprinter in the state of Texas. The 1st play was a Billy Thomas sweep to my side of the field. With reckless abandon and the cry of a banshee, I flew towards Thomas and to my shock, I knocked him down for a 4-yard loss. I couldn’t believe it. I had just tackled a future Olympic runner. The next play was Billy Thomas to the other side and Bobby Morgan, our left cornerback, tackled Thomas for no gain. Then they ran the same play to my side and again and I brought him down for another 4-yard loss. They had run three plays for a total of minus 8-yards. As we left the field, we were excited but still nervous fearing that Billy Thomas could break loose from us on any play.

For the entire first half, they tried the Billy Thomas sweep over and over again

with no success and after each series of downs our confidence grew. By the second quarter, I couldn’t wait to get back on the field. In fact, I started thinking that I just may be the best high school defensive back in the nation and even thought about dropping out of school to go play for the Dallas Cowboys.

At the start of the third quarter, I enthusiastically ran onto the field and couldn’t wait to go up against their allstate running back, Billy Thomas. On the very first play, their quarterback pitched

the ball to Billy who was again heading in my direction. I thought, “Gee, haven’t you guys had enough of me by now? Are you sure you want to mess with me again?” Then something strange happened. Billy Thomas started to slow down, turn his body and put the ball in his right hand. Then it dawned on me; he was about to throw a halfback pass. I was confused as I turned around and to see that their tight end had slipped out into the left flat and was wide open for a pass.

The Christian New Year

e recently experienced one of the most joyful times of the year as Christians – Easter. I love walking into the stores and seeing all of the stuffed bunnies, baby chicks, spring colors. Outside, trees are beginning to bloom again. The fields in parts of Texas are full of bluebonnets. For me, Easter has always symbolized new life. A chance for every living thing to start again.

I remember when I was a kid, we would attend the Easter service at our church. Our choir was always wonderful. For Easter, they had a few extra HUMBLED OR HUMILIATED CONTINUED FROM PAGE 22

That was MY ZONE!!! I was supposed to be there. All I could do was watch Billy throw the ball over my head to the tight end. It seemed like slow motion. As the ball left his hand, I actually thought to myself, “Wow, that sure is a pretty pass; a nice, tight spiral.” A few seconds later my worst nightmare came to life as I found myself pursuing, to no avail, their receiver all the way to the end zone. It was an 80-yard touchdown to my side of the field. The rest of the game I played tentative and scared, not knowing if the

instruments, particularly the trumpet.

The service would always start with the lights out; it was pitch black in the church as the darkness symbolized our sinfulness. There were prayers and reflection, closing out the Lenten season. After the reflection, the lights would come on. The trumpet would begin to play, unencumbered by any other instrument or voice. It was a bright, joyful sound, symbolizing newness, and life. I literally have chills as I’m typing this, remembering how awesome that moment was.

My mom loves the trumpet. As we walked into this service every year, she would look over at the choir, and then back at us with a huge smile and

say, “This is going to be really good!”

As Christians, we can think of Easter as the beginning of a new year. We are reminded that our Savior died for our sins; a promise that no matter how many times we mess up, we can repent, and turn to Him for forgiveness.

How great would it be if everyone truly forgave every sinful thing we do, or say? The unconditional love we’ve been granted is astounding and we are not worthy. We can begin our year with humility; we didn’t deserve God’s sacrifice of His only son, but He did it anyway.

When we think of the power of that sacrifice, the power of that cross, what words come to mind? Love, grace, gratitude, freedom, are a few that come to mine. As Christians, we are called to carry our crosses. These are usually seen as crosses of burden, our

play was going to be a pass or run. We lost 36-22. I was so shaken I felt sure my 80-year-old grandmother could outrun me that night.

As I replay that game in my mind, I realize that the reason for this bad experience wasn’t because of a lack of talent or determination. It was because of my pride.

I really thought, after playing so well in the 1st half, that I couldn’t be beaten by anyone. Boy, was I wrong about that!

The Bible tells us that “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

The word “opposes” means to keep at arm’s length or it even could mean the football term, to stiff arm. When I’m

proud the Lord won’t touch my life. And if He won’t touch me, I have no power to live.

Dear Lord - Please keep me humble because I would much rather humble myself instead of being humiliated.

shortcomings as human beings, the things we ‘beat ourselves up’ over.

However, what if we carried our cross with those words you thought of earlier? With love, grace, gratitude, and the gift of freedom. Our demons don’t stand a chance if we face them with the power of this cross we carry.

Now the cross we carry isn’t a burden – it’s a shield, it’s protection.

Everything that God intended it to be.

By carrying our crosses with humility this year, and with the powerful words you chose earlier, our world would see Jesus lifted up. Let’s challenge ourselves and each other to commit to carrying these crosses through every obstacle this Christian year. The lights are on, the trumpet is playing. This is going to be really good!

God’s Angel for a Baby

A

baby asked God, the Heavenly Father, “They tell me you are sending me to earth tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless?” God said, “Your angel will be waiting for you and

will take care of you.”

The child further inquired, “But tell me, here in heaven I don’t have to do anything but sing and smile to be happy.” God said, “Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you. In addition, you will feel your angel’s genuine love and warmth, and you will be very happy.”

Again the child asked, “And how am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me if I don’t know the language?” God said, “Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care. Your angel will lovingly teach you how to speak.”

“And what am I going to do when I wish to talk to you?” God said, “Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how to pray.”

“Who will protect me?” God said, “Your angel will defend you at all costs, even if it means risking its life.”

“But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore.” God said, “Your angel will always talk to you about Me and will teach you the way to come back to Me, even though I will always be next to you.”

At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from Earth could be heard and the child hurriedly asked, “God, if I am to leave now, please tell me my angel’s name.”

The Week My Savior Died

With a dollar box of Kleenex and the Bible at my side I sat down to read the story of the week my Savior died I walked along behind Him as He rode the donkey into town I watched as those before Him spread coats and branches on the ground I listened to His words as the Lord’s Supper was complete I stood in the corner as He washed and dried the disciples’ feet I saw a look of sadness as He told Judas to go his way I slipped into the garden when He knelt

to pray I heard His cry of anguish and saw Him begin to weep I looked toward the three disciples, they were fast asleep I ran into the shadows as the Roman soldiers came so near I saw Jesus rise to meet them, in His eyes there was no fear I watched the mocking of the crowd, saw them spitting in His face I heard the words ‘crucify Him, give us Barabbas in His place’ I saw Him struggle to carry the cross, I saw him fall upon the road I watched as a man named Simon shouldered the heavy load

You Can Change the World

On my last visit home, I ran into a past client and told him about my recent move to another state and that I am currently working as the Evangelism Director at a church. The first thing he said was, “you must bring a lot of happiness into this world by sharing the Lord Jesus Christ with others”. The apostle Paul explains this experience to the Colossians by saying,

“Everywhere we go, talk about Christ to all who will listen.” You have the privilege of participating with our living Lord in the fulfillment of His Great Commission in our generation. In my opinion, the only way to change the world is to change individuals. Changed people, in sufficient numbers, will produce changed campuses, communities, cities, states, and nations. Yes, in a very real sense, a changed world. Jesus Christ is the only One who can change people from within. You can help to change the world by introducing people to Jesus Christ.

I am here today because one Sunday afternoon in January of 2001, my neighbor stepped out of her comfort zone and invited me to a group for mothers of preschoolers (MOPS). I had known her for over a year; she didn’t have a preschool aged child, and she never invited me to church with her family on Sunday mornings. But on one particular Sunday, a few months after my daughter was born, she told me about the MOPS meeting the next day and said she would take me. It was during that meeting that the Holy Spirit opened my eyes to how

lost I had been through a testimony that was shared that day. Just as the lady who shared that testimony does not know the influence it had on me and my children, I am unable to count the number of people the Holy Spirit has touched by me sharing my testimony to others.

Allow me to give you 3 reasons God desires all believers to share their faith.

Biblically Responsible Investing Are you preaching against something on Sundays and then subsidizing it on Mondays?

ver the past 25 years, an increasing number of Christians want their investments to align with their moral values. However, there are still a large number of Christians who have no idea that many of the stocks, bonds or mutual funds that they own actually donate to or profit from activities such as abortion, pornography, sex trafficking, tobacco, and alternative lifestyles.

Biblically Responsible Investors (BRI) believe that God owns everything, and that investors are merely stewards of what God has entrusted to them. As stewards, we would not want to invest God’s money in YOU CAN CHANGE THE WORLD CONTINUED FROM PAGE 25

fruit; so you will be My disciples.”

Second, the love of Christ compels us to share our faith. In Paul’s words, “The love of Christ constrains us.” If you have experienced the love of the Lord Jesus, you will also want to introduce Him to others. Third, sharing your faith is a direct command from Jesus Christ.

He says, “Follow me, and I will make

But what if one of the stewards said, “Look, Master, I bought a brothel and doubled your money”?! For Investors who want to align their savings with their values, sometimes what a company does with its profits is easy to discover. Sometimes investors need to read annual reports or do online research. And there is software available which has already done the research for investors.

Here are a couple of examples. If an investor wants to avoid owning shares of a tobacco company because they lost a loved one to lung cancer, it’s fairly easy to find out if a company produces tobacco products. On the other hand, a company that’s publicly recognized as providing telecommunications services may have a subsidiary that provides “adult entertainment,” or even pornography to the customers who use their telecommunications services.

Most of us have heard of the boy who was told that he couldn’t throw enough starfish back into the ocean to make a difference. As he threw another starfish into the ocean, he said: “I made a difference for that one.” Similarly, Christian investors have made a difference in a number of companies.

For example, several companies have stopped using some of their corporate profits to fund Planned Parenthood, after some of their Christian shareholders objected to using profits for that purpose.

This month go out to share and invite

others in your community to your church services. Remember these scriptures. Our minds will say things like: “Don’t go too far; don’t be a fanatic.

These people will be turned off. They will think you are crazy.” But knowing that we are free from Satan’s power as we obey and simply trust the Lord, we simply only need to say, “Greater is He (Christ) who is in me than he who is in the world (Satan)”. So, keep on knowing

from experience that God will honor your one-on-one presentation as He has on thousands of other occasions, for He has promised to honor His word.

Ask yourself, how can God use you to draw others to Him, which in turn, will change the world – one person at a time.

harles Plumb was a US Navy jet pilot in Vietnam. After 75 combat missions, his plane was destroyed by a surface-to-air missile.

Plumb ejected and parachuted into enemy hands. He was captured and spent 6 years in a communist Vietnamese prison. He survived the ordeal and now lectures on lessons learned from that experience!

One day, when Plumb and his wife were sitting in a restaurant, a man at another table cloths and said, “You’re Plumb!

You flew jet fighters in Vietnam from the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk. You were shot down!”

“How in the world did you know that?” asked Plumb.

“I packed your parachute,” the man replied. Plumb gasped in surprise and gratitude. Them as pumped his hand and said, “I guess it worked!” Plumb assured him, “It sure did. If your chute hadn’t worked, I wouldn’t be here today.”

Plumb couldn’t sleep that night, thinking about that man. Plumb says, I kept wondering what he had looked like in a Navy uniform, a white hat; a bib in the back; and bell-bottom trousers. I wonder how many times I might have seen him and not even said ‘Good morning,

Now, Plumb asks his audience, “Who’s packing your parachute?” Everyone has someone who provides what they need to make it through the day. He also points out that he needed many kinds of parachutes when his plane was shot down over enemy territory -- he needed his physical parachute, his mental parachute, his emotional parachute, and his spiritual parachute. He called on all these supports before reaching safety.

Sometimes in the daily challenges that life gives us, we miss what is really important. We may fail to say hello, please, or thank you, congratulate someone on something wonderful that has happened to them, give a compliment, or just do something nice for no reason. As you go through this week, this month, this year, recognize people who pack your parachutes.

The Wall: Just My Opinion

s I drove down the interstate, I began to think about how it is being said that the wall will not work. Before I begin, just know I am not against immigrants. I am against Illegal immigrants from any country. And I believe it should not be so difficult to legally go through the channels to become a citizen.

With that being said, the wall won’t work you say? A wall is a barrier just the same as a fence, gate, door, etc. It is meant to keep something from entering a certain area. If barriers do not work why do we pay millions of dollars to put up barriers to keep traffic from entering oncoming traffic? Why do businesses pay the extra cost for fences and locked gates? Why do we live in gated communities? Why do we have guardrails on bridges and overpasses?

All of these things are put in place to protect our loved ones and our possessions. Do they work 100%? Nope.

But there is not one of us that want these things removed. How many will willingly remove the locks from your doors, fences from your property and willingly let anyone enter your home at any time they want. Not me!

If you have taken the time to read this in its entirety this is the opinion of a simple-minded person that has never been polled. I miss the days of common sense and respect. I prayed at ball games and said the pledge of allegiance as a kid… and, I was proud to do it. Today I stand with pride when the American flag passes.

I am ashamed of what politics and political correctness has done to my country.

the 38th parallel in Korea; if you protest against President Obama’s policies you’re a terrorist but if you burned an American flag or George Bush in effigy it was your First Amendment right.

having benefited from what he called “white privilege.” He told a group, “Absolutely undeniable. I have been arrested twice. But that didn’t come to define me or narrow my options in life. A lot of it has to do with the fact that I’m a white man.”

Democrats also see everywhere “white nationalism,” a form of racism, and attempt to attach the label to anyone who wishes to enforce existing, longstanding, immigration law, the same law enforced by Barack Obama. Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar recently tweeted, “Stephen Miller is a white nationalist. The fact that he still has an influence on policy and political appointments is an outrage.” This, coming from probably the most anti-Jewish (and therefore racist) member of Congress.

Unable to show clear documentation for the charge, supporters acknowledged that although they could not X-ray for “racist bones,” even so, Miller (and by extension President Donald Trump his boss) is still guilty of “soft-core” white nationalism. In other words, they are white nationalists because they are white and in the majority.

Since whites participated in slavery in our early history thirteen Democratic Presidential hopefuls attending the Al Sharpton founded National Action Network’s annual conference April 3, committed to sign Congresswoman Jackson Lee’s recently introduced bill creating a commission to study reparations for African-Americans. Most saw it as a way of addressing the persistence of racism and white supremacy today.

Cory Booker said, “It will begin to right the economic scales of past harms.”

Senator Kamala Harris, “Justice means recognizing domestic terrorism, including white nationalist extremism,” which she noted, “should be considered a national security priority.” Senator Bernie Sanders said he would sign, then returned to his racist central theme, “We have a president who is a racist, who is a sexist, who is a homophobe, who is a

Senators Elizabeth Warren and Kirsten Gillibrand would sign as would Congressman Beto O’Rourke, Governor John Hickenlooper and Mayor Pete Buttigieg.

Indeed no presidential candidate at the gathering opposed it. All supported “racial restitution,” whatever that means.

The problem with such legislation is no white person now living had anything to do with slavery 154 years ago. Even then, it was almost entirely the whites of the north that gave their lives to free the slaves. It was whites that established and maintained the Underground Railroad at considerable risk to themselves and it was white author Harriet Beecher Stow in Uncle Tom’s Cabin, who brought attention to the moral issue of slavery. Even today, race baiters need to be reminded that it was whites that elected the first half-black president, Barack Obama.

Of course, there were abuses of the past. Indians, Chinese, Germans, Japanese, Quakers, Jews, and Mormons can all make cases. Race baiters want whites to acknowledge that they are racist and oppressive by nature and should have what they call “white guilt.”

The only remedy they seem to accept is compensation, but this is never enough.

But their focus is almost entirely on the blacks and slavery and the then perpetrators and victims are dead and today’s descendants, many generations later, were not wronged. How do they make the case for their receiving compensation for wrongs committed to their ancestors without committing an injustice to those now living—even if it were their ancestors who committed the injustices mentioned? Would they not be the source of new injustice?

Why should I pay for the injustices of my ancestors, even worse, when they may not have been the perpetrators?

And why should my black neighbor receive a benefit forced from me without creating an injustice to me? Under, this logic his posterity will need to atone to my posterity. Could not the same arguments be used against them in a later century?

Today most white Americans are of many races and not racist. Insisting that all whites should have “white guilt “ because of presumed ancestral injustices or confederate association only exacerbates racism, the very thing race baiters insist they wish to end. Then, are not race baiters the “real” racists? That the news gives their racism so much attention should be objectionable to everyone.

Romney, McCain and Napolitano

cCain voted no on repealing Obama Care and supported open borders. He was a Deep State puppet, a warmonger and in the pocket of George Soros. Taking his place is Mitt Romney, who regularly condemns president Trump, perhaps out of jealousy since he lost his own presidential bid.

What disturbs me the most, however, is Judge Napolitano’s behavior. He once supported Trump and in fact, he made waves when he claimed Obama illegally wiretapped Trump and his campaign.

That stance got him suspended from

And how do we handle a major crisis today? The government appoints a committee to determine who’s at fault, then threatens them, passes a law, raises our taxes; tells us the problem is solved so they can get back to their re-election campaign.

Fox News. When he returned, he began to take pot shots at Trump. Now he’s morphed into a ‘Never Trumper.’

Such backstabbing might keep him on the air and in the favor of the Deep State, but for me, he’s been Deep Sixed.
